Satellite A350 - Vista Home Premium 32 bit or 64 bit

I have just purchased a Satellite A350 and I installed the 32 bit version of Vista.
Have I done this correctly or should I have installed 64 bit version.

Theoretically both versions are the same and each version has the same function but as Eldorado already said the 64bit version is able to handle 4GB RAM or more.
So I think its depending on the RAM size what OS you should install. If you only have up to 3GB RAM the 32bit is enough but you can also use the 64bit version.
The point is that maybe some older applications are not compatible to a 64bit version and only run on a 32bit system but the most used applications like Office, Firefox, etc. also running on a 64bit properly.

Hi Guy's back again with a new query.
I'm looking to upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Ultimate...checked out all the so called requirements on the" Windows anytime upgrade" site and I can assure you there are plenty of conflicting ideas about how its all done right down to the fact that I would need an up-grade disk mailed out to me.
Having read a couple of other forums recently, the answer lies in what you guy's may or may not be able to advise me...and the question is:
Does the so called "rescue disk" supplied at purchase, ie the Windows operating system disk...CONTAIN ALL THE "VISTA "AVAILABLE SYSTEMS.....Basic, Home Premium, Business & Ultimate??? and highly unlikely but is it upgrade coded or whatever it is that its meant to be to perform system upgrades?

Thanks for your comments and yes I realise its a user to user forum but you just never know who's floating around.
And I certainly am not confusing the 2 disks Toshiba/MS hence my question in the first place, it only seemed logical to me that Toshiba may have all the OS for Vista on the one CD rather than preparing many different recovery disc's given the volume and variations of the systems they sell.
The serial and key required for updating can be installed onto your system separately after buying same from MS its just a matter then of whether the recovery disc itself has the operating system of the update you require......as for example does the disc an other manufacturer supply with their pre-installed software when you purchase one of their systems.

I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:

If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

Satellite A350D-005- Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit and Burning

Hi. I recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite A350D (PSALEC-005004). It has a 64 bit processor running vista home premium 64 bit. I have never been able to successfully burn a cd or a dvd. I have tried nero 7, 8 and 9, along with Roxio Easy Media Creator 10, along with a few other various software. Nero ends up in it haulting around 10%, then eventually saying that the burning process has failed, resulting in me either having to turn the computer off to remove the wasted disc or if im using my external burner i have to turn it off then back on. When I use Roxio it seems like its going to burn until the end, where it seems to hault again. What am I doing wrong or what can I do to fix this problem?

Okay, I tried burning a CD and DVD using Vista's built-in software, and it says this after attempting: "There was an error burning the disc. The disc may no longer be usable." I have no clue as to why the computer will not let me burn using any program. I have tried using my external Sony DVD burner that works on my 32 bit system, and it wont work on this 64 bit machine either. Any suggestions as what to try next?
Also, whenever it decides to quit burning, the burner seems to keep going and wont stop unless I shut the computer off (for the internal burner) or Turn off the power to the external burner. It also disappears from the list under the "Computer (My Computer)" section.

Satellite L355D-S7901 (PSLE8U-02P01D) s/n ********* - Vista Home Premium SP2 32-bit

Long story short; back in February of last year, some "Shop" downstate replaced the HDD in this unit, and evidently installed from a "Master" disk (Non-tosh); failed to install the Tosh model specific drivers, and didn't dupe the old HDD (which was apparently only failing, not yet failed), so no Recovery partition or recover disks, either home-made or Tosh.
First question (since Toshibas phone support may as well not exist, and the Recovery set purchasing page doesn't provide answers until AFTER the purchase); how fast is expidited fulfillment within CONUS?
Q2: Is there a machine/model specific list of the latest drivers/utilities/Apps?
The support page is kludgy at best and seems to list ALL drivers since day one for all variations of a given model. I'd rather not spend the time weeding through ALL of them to find just those that apply.
I've salvaged all of the data, and I'm pig-headedly trying to clean this beast up and replace corrupted files, but failing the ability to do an "in-place upgrade" for repair purposes (as in XP), it may come to doing a fresh install.
This individual has to head back off to her university by month's end, so I'm up against it without the Recovery set.

What are you upgrading to/from? As you say, you have a store bought Windows Vista install disk(s). Also, it appears as if you have Vista OS already on the laptop. Maybe I'm missing something.
The existing installation of Vista Home Premium SP2 on the HDD that is mostly functional needs some repairs and "sfc /scannow" can't do those repairs because the recovery partition was not recreated when some putz replaced the HDD nearly a year and a half ago.
It's not truly an "upgrade" as such; that's just the term used.
I'm wanting to do what's known as an "in-place upgrade"; essentially, it simply replaces the Windows files without affecting your existing applications or data, at least that's how it worked with previous versions of Windows.
You're simply directing it to upgrade your Vista Home Premium SP2 32-bit to Vista Home Premium SP2 32-bit, repairing itself along the way.
You then need to do all Windows updates that succeeded the printing of THAT DVD and reregister, but that's a minor nuisance.
From the image you have provided, it appears as if the Vista installation disk does not recognize the hd on the laptop, and is asking for a driver so it can detect it.

I need to know what the name of that driver for this particular model Toshiba is so that I can download it, feed it to that prompt, and proceed from there, but the driver d/l page for this Tosh doesn't appear to list anything specifically for the AHCI controller (at least nothing that I can discern).
What happens if you have the Vista install disk in the drive and you start your laptop? You can use the Windows install disk to do a repair (is that what you are trying to do?).
That will supplant the current installation, not repair it! All of the existing data, settings, and applications will be erased. You can only perform an "in-place upgrade" from within Windows.

Would Satellite U300-11V run Vista Home Premium 64?

I tried the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor but that had nothing to do with 32 vs 64.....

Of course its compatible with the Vista 64bit OS.
The Satellite U300-11V belongs to the PSU30E series.
I checked the Toshiba European driver page if a 64bit Vista drivers are available but unfortunately, they are not released.
However, you would be able to install the Vista 64bit on your notebook but you will have to collect the single 64bit Vista drivers from other notebook series.
Many notebooks series are equipped with the same devices and sometimes you can use the same drivers on different notebooks.

Unable to scan and communicate with scan function C6180 Vista Home Premium 64 bit Printing works

I have an all in one C6180 Photosmart connected by wireless network (infrastructure). Network consists of 2-laptops, 1-Desktop and the printer. Everything works from HP solution Center on the Compaq laptop and the Dell desktop both running Windows XP. My newest laptop is a Dell studio XPS core2 2.4ghz running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit. I am unable to scan from the Dell Laptop using HP Solution Center nor can I scan from the printer buttons to the laptop. Solution Center opens I select "scan document" and immediately get an error message "unable to communicate with scanning device. Likewise with the copy function. The laptop does recognize the printer though and I am able to print wirelessly. All functions work when connected via USB so I believe the printer is fine. I have been working with this problem since I bought the printer in 2007. I spent many hours reading hundreds of internet posts, talking by phone with HP and via e-mail support from HP. I became frustrated and gave up for awhile but now I want to see if there are any new solutions that I don't know about. I downloaded full feature software and drivers for the 6180 from HP and performed various levels of uninstall (L1, L2, L3, L4). I also cleaned the registry with ccleaner, windows disk cleanup and manual registry deletions when allowed per HP. I have checked port settings, tried stopping HP functions is Services.Msc. The Digital monitor is currently running, however no scanner communication-computer to 6180 and no scanner communication 6180 to computer. I can print and fax from computer wirelessly. I have ran the HP diagnostic utility separately and it appears everything is fine, connection IPaddress etc. During install when prompted to run test it says the printer is connected to the network. I have tried to add a device to the network after install and get the message no wireless devices found. The scanner does not appear under Cameras and Scanners in control panel. Nor will it find the scanner when I try to add device. Firewalls and antivirus have been turned off. Still can't make it work. Suggestions please.

Sorry about your pain. L3 uninstall is what I recommend. Re-install from hp.com and this time, with the printer properly attached it should flow OK.

Itunes not working with Vista Home Premium 32-bit

Itumes 10.6.3 version will not work with Vista Home Premium. I have a 32-bit operating system. I'm not sure what to do next. It appears in trying to update it deleted the old itumes, as I can't find a copy of it when I search the computer.

Okay. That will be the source of the iTunes problem. (Without a properly working QuickTime, iTunes won't work correctly.)
Checking on things that can cause QuickTime launch errors now.
Have you at any stage installed any Codec Packs, any copies of the programs QT Alternative, QT Lite or Storm Codec, or any media converter programs that can convert files into QuickTime readable formats?
(I'm checking on these things because depending on the versions of the programs/codec-packs, these can install earlier versions of QuickTime componentry on a PC, which can interfere with the running of a higher version of QuickTime.)

But I do not know how I did that.
Itunes has been working since day 1 on my 64 bit machine, only problem is that it takes half a minute to copy album cover art to song in itunes, the computer is hanging for 15 seconds before the album cover art is copied.
I just took the Ipod out of the box and connected it to the computer and it worked fine.
Only problem that I had yesterday is that when I'm intergrating album cover art my hard disk is doing strange things.
Just yesterday, my RAID 1 was corrupted by Itunes, first hard disk 1 was failing and an hour later hard disk 2 also crashed.
Was able to reconnect them into RAID 1, luckilly.

Nvidia GeoForce Go 7600 graphics driver and IQ770 with Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit edition

I have been having problems with my screen for several months now: every so often, for no apparent reason, it loses some of the pixels. I can still read the items on the screen, but the resolution is trashed. It happens intermittently and then goes back to normal. I have tried uninstalling the graphics driver and letting the computer go find it on a reboot. This does not work. I have also tried installing the original graphics driver. This does not work either.
If I look in the "Problem Reports" area in Control Panel, there is a graphics related error:
Error Message: STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER (Q293078) The resolution listed is to reinstall the device driver (which I've tried dozens of times without success) or to change the computer's performance settings, which also does nothing. I still get the occasional loss of screen clarity which returns to normal all by itself.
Is anyone else seeing this problem? Does anyone have a resolution?
I have tried the latest graphics driver available on the hp website, from 8-2008 as well as the originally installed version from January 2007. The version of Windows is Vista Home Premium 32 bit edition, Service Pack 1.
If I completely uninstall the graphics driver, and do not reload any, the screen performance is fine, but then there are other problems, such as graphics acceleration.

And only use the driver from the system manufacturer's website or Windows Update. Do not use the latest drivers from NVIDIA's website for the IQ700 series

Replacing Motherboard on HP Media Center PC running Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)

Running OEM version of Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit) on an HP Pavilion Media Center m8226x Desktop PC. Replacing motherboard ASUS M2N68-LA Motherboard 6150SE HP Narra2-GL8E with an MCP61PM-HM (Nettle2) motherboard due to failure. Both boards have same chipset and form factor. Can I just replace board without reinstalling windows? Do I need to install new drivers? I don't have an install CD or install key, would Microsoft provide a key if needed? Is there a link I can reference for MB replacement/ install?

The OEM license is tied to the original motherboard version, ie M2N68-LA. You lose the OEM "rights" when you changed the board.

No Oracle product is certified against any Windows Home OS.
As Vista was released after Oracle 10gR2, 10gR2 is not certified against any edition of Vista.
You need to downgrade to XP, or install Linux.

Will photos created on a 32 bit Windows Vista Home Premium be readable on a Windows 7 64 bit system?

I have around 25,000 photos in jpeg and tiff and in version sets plus some slide shows and blurb books created in the 32 bit system of Windows Vista Home Premium with PSE 10.0 and Premier and have to change to a 64 bit Windows 7 system since Adobe is discontinuing the Photoshop Elements programs in early April of 2013. Will these photos created in 32 bit be readable and editable in the 64 bit system?

Yes. PSE works on both 32bit and 64 bit systems.
PSE is not being discontinued. The on-line service at Photoshop.com is simply moving to Adobe Revel.

Tx2120us, upgrade from Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

I wonder if there's anyone out there who has managed to sucessfully upgrade his/her HP tx2120us tablet PC from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate or to do a fresh Windows 7 ultimate install on a HP tx2120us tablet PC.
I purchased a Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit edition AND a 320GB 7200rpm hard drive and started a fresh Windows 7 installation. After the installation was done, the network adapters fixed and wireless were working. I also managed to install the Audio drivers for the built in realtek audio adapter. Even the touchpad, touchscreen and pen seem to work but then I stopped after several attempts to install a suitable display driver for the NVIDIA G-Force video adapter. The resolution with my Vista OS is 1280 x 800 but the default Windows 7 OS only provides a generic 1064 x 768 resolution and not any download from HP could install a suitable NVIDIA driver for Windows 7.
As I stopped there I don't even know if there is a driver for the card reader or the Light Scribe DVD burner and whatever is buit in into this tx2120us.
I'd really very much appreciate if someone who had succeeded with the installation of Win 7 Ultimate 64bit on the tx2120us could provide me with working drivers or the links to them.

Palm does not support 64-bit Vista for cabled Hotsyncs.
There is a huge Vista64 bit thread at the top of this section explaining your options - BlueTooth Hotsync is about the only way you can procede with a Centro.
