Satellite A50: What CD/DVD drives are compatibe?

Hello
Since I have had my A50 for the last 2 1/2 years I have had intermittent problems with the this DVD Drive. It has finally packed in and I am needing to replace the drive so i can use the product recovery CD's.
I have tried to find out the master/slave settings of my computer so that I am able to find a suitable drive to replace it with.
Does anyone know what the settings are, or what drive I could use to replace it with
Thanks
Ollie

Hello
Please check Users manuals for Satellite A50 (pages 4-12) and there you will find which optical disc driver are compatible with your notebook.
If Users manuals is not saved on your unit you can find it under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com Support & Downloads Support Homepage Downloads.
Good luck!

  • How can I determine what internal DVD drives are compatible w/ my G5?

I'd like to put a new DVD drive in my G5. It's one of the original 1.8 dual machines, with some extra RAM. I'm having trouble with the drive these days, and I'd like to figure out what drives are compatible. Thoughts?

I cannot speak for all drives but today I installed a Pioneer 710 ( same drive as 111 ) in place of the original Pioneer 106.
I have only tested it with Toast to burn a DVD-R and playing a CD and all is well.

  • Satellite 1410-902: Which DVD drives are compatible?

My CD in Toshiba s1410-902 is broken and I would like to change it to DVD reader or DVD recorder. The problem is, that not all IDE CD/DVD drives will work with this Toshiba. BIOS accepts only definite drives some of manufacturers, but I don't know which one.
Where can I find the coplete list of copmatible DVD drives for this model of Toshiba?

    Hi
If you will buy a drive for your notebook you have to check the physical size of the drive.
The drive settings (master/slave/csel) are very important because you cannot reset these settings like on the normal desktop PC drive.
I have found this CD-RW/DVD-Rom combo drive: P000352490
This drive should be compatible with Satellite 1410.
But of course, you can contact the ASP in your country if you want to order supported parts.

  • What External DVD Drives are Mac Compatible

    Hi,
I've got an Early 2008 white macbook with a combo drive. I want to buy an external DVD burner but am struggling to purchase one that is Mac OSX 10.5.7 compatible.
I need it to burn DVD +R DL.
Can someone please recommend me a suitable drive?
    Thanks
    Barry

I'm struggling because lots of websites say a drive will work with Windows but not many state they will work with a mac.
    Will this work?

  • Satellite A200-195: What CD/DVD drive is compatible?

    Hey Guys and gals,
I have had a look and asked Toshiba but no answer given so thought I would ask the experts here.
My DVD RW in my laptop TS L632D Has died and I need a new one.
So what one can I buy and fit without problems.
These drives are known to have issues with conflicts etc... so a different drive would be better.
So what do you guys and gals suggest.
    Cheers,
    Chris

    Hi
Thank you very much that you are seeing us as experts :)
We all here are Toshiba notebook users and as you probably dont know this is a user-to-user forum. :) so maybe not really experts ;)
To be honest its not known to me that this CD/DVD drive causes issue.
As you probably dont know every CD/DVD drive doesnt support all possible CDs or DVDs from different manufacturers.
Some CDs and DVDs are more compatible and some CDs or DVDs are not fully compatible.
However, the point is that you need a new CD/DVD drive.
I checked the A200 user manual (can be downloaded from the Toshiba page) and there is a list with some compatible drives.
Check the user manual page 6 and 7
You can also call the ASP in your country. The guys known what CD/DVD drives are compatible with your notebook!
    Bye

  • What DVD drives are compatible with Equium A60 PSA67E?

my question; what dvd drives are compatible for an equium a60 (psa67e-001001en)?
background; i did a very silly thing! whilst i was in japan and about 18 months after purchasing my a60 in the uk, the dvd drive packed up. i replaced it with a teac dvd drive and it worked like a dream! i threw the old drive away (i think it was a matsu****a, but can't remember the exact model). anyway, i came home and had a bit of spare time on my hands so i decided to tweak my machine and corrupted the windows xp registry.
Now the windows xp runs in a loop, i can't get access to it and i need to wipe the hard drive and start again basically. i put the recovery disk in, but the computer doesn't read from it and frustratingly finds its way to the loopy windows. i have determined that it is not recognising the teac drive that i used to replace the old one. i think if i put an original type back in, the firmware may recognise the drive and i'll be back in business.... or so i hope!
of course, any other advice would be gratefully received too! thanks.
work around??? ps... a work around i thought up... copy the contents of the recovery disk on to a hard drive (using my old computer) then swap the current hdd in my a60 with it... theory; when the computer finds the contents during booting, it will install xp on another part of that hard drive and i'll have a working machine again. could something like that work???????? any thoughts????

    thanks again friend!
as it turns out, that pioneer drive rung bells.
though my TEAC (DV-w28e) replacement looks identical to my previous drive and has worked ok with windows, at "the bios level" it is not being recognised... is that something you would have expected???? i must admit, with windows, the TEAC outperformed the original drive and was surprised it wasn't reading my recovery disk after my self infliction! i also tried using a usb hdd loaded up with the recovery disk and that didn't work.
but you answered my question so thanks a million for that.

Which CD and DVD drives are burn compatible with 7.02.16? I want to get an USB external drive that I know Apple supports and will support with iTues.

are you getting an error message? if so, what does it say?
could you also post your DVD/CD diagnostics for us? in itunes, go "help > run diagnostics", select DVD/CD diagnostics, and paste the complete results into a reply.

  • Which external cd/dvd drives are compatible?

my optical drive has broke in my standard macbook, think its from 2007. It is too expensive to get repaired so i was just wondering which external cd/dvd drive are reconised and work with this macbook from the UK? thanks!

This is not that easy to say as compatibility depends on the slave/master settings and therefore you would need to ask an ASP.
Maybe check some lightscribe ODDs and ask the guys from ASP.
But honestly, would you really want to waste your money on this feature? I know, those discs look pretty nice when used ligthscribe on it, but is it worth it?
I have one in my other notebook but I have only used it once.
And you will need special blank CDs/DVDs with this surface to use lightscribe feature.

  • What CD/DVD drive is compatible with Satellite A10-S103

I am using portable computer Toshiba Satellite A10-S103 and I am about to replace original CD/DVD-ROM drive with a new one which can also write CDs and DVDs.
However, I have been given a notice, that after installing new DVD drive the "IDE #1 error" message may appear. According to my knowledge, this error can be avoided by replacing the old drive with a new one that requires the same Primary/Secondary Master/Slave/Cable select settings as the old one.
Can you recommend me a DVD-RW drive that could replace the old DVD-ROM drive and would work without any further HW adjustments?
The new DVD-RW drive should be similar to i.e.
However, I was not able to decide whether this device will or will not work in my computer as I do not know settings of the original DVD drive.
My original Toshiba DVD drive information as follow:
    1. 'Model No.' SD-C2612
    2. 'ROM Ver.' 1315
    3. 'Serial No.' 394N002659
    4. 'Ver. No.' 302.
    The computer is already out-of-warranty
    Thank you.

You are right. The IDE #1 error appears because the BIOS doesnt recognize the new internal CD/DVD drive due to the wrong master/slave/c-sel settings.
Usually such settings are fix and cannot be changed like on the external ODDs using other jumper position.
The firmware controls the internal notebooks ODD settings.
Therefore the usage of the supported and compatible ODDs is very important.
Sorry, but I didnt find any details about compatible CD/DVD drives.
Did you take a look into the user manual of your notebook series???
In my user manual I found some info about the compatible drives with my notebook.
So maybe you are a lucky man and your user manual will provide some useful informations.

  • What DVD drives are compatible with the iMac G4 17 1ghz?

I need a new CD drive that can at least play DVD movies. I do not want to pay the large sum of money just because it's an apple brand, I know there are some compatible drives out there.

All optical drives are DVD capable these days.
Click on this link for direction to suitable drives.
    https://eshop.macsales.com/shop/optical-drives/superdrives/powermac/
It is pretty much generic drive-wise.

  • Satellite A50: What HDD are supported

    Hello,
my hard disk seems to be broken and i would like to change it.
Which hard disk can i use for my Toshiba Satellite Serie A 50 ?
The old one was around 60 GB.
Is it difficult to change the notebook hard disk ? I have experiences with
    PCs but not with Notebooks.
Which one (hard disk) should I buy ?
Thank you for your help in advance.
    Ocelin

    Hi
Im a owner of the Satellite A50. Its a little bit old unit but I used it only as a backup and second notebook.
Anyway, I have upgraded the notebook with the 100GB HDD!!! It works!
So I assume you can also use a 100GB HDD but please take a look on the HDD interface.
Its important that the HDD supports the right interface. In my knowledge the HDD should supports enhanced IDE (ATA-6) interface!
    bye
