Satellite A500-19x - Is backlit keyboard available?

Hi
This laptop was meant to have a backlite keyboard.
I even phoned Toshiba to check but it has no symbol on the z key.
Anyone know anything about this problem?
Can it be remedied?

There are different Satellite A500 models with different hardware configuration!!!
The Z button of A500-19x does not contains a tiny keyboard sign and therefore the unit does not support the FN + Z which would enable or disable the keyboard backlight!
This function is not available on this model.

if you want to update your Bios, go to the Toshiba driver page and choose the appropriate Bios version for you model. Download it and run. Don't forget to close all the running programs, disable Antivirus, Firewall before running it. Then, you will be asked to restart the computer. Pray that Bios process would occur properly otherwise you will have blank screen on startup. In this case, you will have to contact TASP (Toshiba authorized service provider).
To be honestly, I don't recommend you to flash the Bios, in your case it doesn't help your in audio crackling and BSOD. I updated my BIos but it didn't fix the problem. I think, it's graphic driver issue.You can go to the nvidia.com and download a new graphic card driver released recently. Install it and check. I also had audio crackling and the system freezing that gone after updating that driver. Note, that driver isn't pretested by Toshiba (not modified for overheating protection, anyway the users say this in the forum) but install it at my own risk and still have no problems.

Does anyone know the part number for the internal remote control that fits in the toshiba A500-19x. Anyhelp gratefully received..

I dont know the remote control part number which could be compatible with such notebook but I think that an ASP in your country could help you.
You can purchase all compatible parts from the service partner in your country.
If the parts are not available then the guys will order it from the Toshiba head stock.

Satellite A500 - Only 2.96GB RAM available on Windows 7 32bit

Hi,
I'm using Windows 7 on a Satellite A500, and when I go to the computers properties, it claims that only 2.96GB of RAM is available.
I'm running the 32-bit version of windows 7, but I thought the limit of RAM in 32-bit was 4 GB..?
Why isn't all my RAM available???

The simple answer is Windows 7. If you want to know more then to see what is using your "missing memory" click Start and type resmon.exe in the search box or if you have "Run" displayed type it there. Resource Monitor will then run and click on the memory tab and you'll see or the background "programs" of Windows 7. Just google any of the names if you want to know what they do. Does someone have a backlit keyboard in his/her A660? Please post some photos.
I am looking for such keyboard but it's almost impossible to get one in Europe.

Satellite A500-19x: No illumination and modem driver for Win 7 needed

My laptop died so I tried to re-install windows 7 and all the drivers for it.
I couldn't install the modem driver(?) and so cannot access the internet from it.
Also, the light up buttons above the keyboard no longer light up.
The taskbar is an ugly grey instead of being translucent.
I don't know much about computers and would appreciate any advice :)

The laptop is about 3 weeks old. Standard Windows 7 (supplied) official Microsoft Office installed, thats it...
This is about the 20th time I have this message/reboot bluescreen.

I have goggled for BCCode: 116 and I got many hits.
In most cases this code refers to graphic card driver issue
Im not quite sure if this could be the reason for the BSOD but I would recommend updating the graphic card driver.
It could be also possible that the high graphic performance would cause this BSOD.
Someone suggested using the OS's own low-performance/high-reliability VGA driver For the use the command: *BCDEDIT /SET VGA ON*
Maybe this would help you for further investigations

1.) Read exactly!! *Only some* A500 have backlight keyboard. Not all models have this feature.
2.) It would be interesting to know, why LED lightning for touchpad, Satellite-logo, etc. has something to do with the keyboard.
All A500 and newer Toshiba notebooks have LED lightning for touchpad, etc. but backlight is an additional feature. ;)

Satellite P750-11W - Backlit keyboard for this model

I recently boughty a Satellite P750-11W. I thought that the keyboard was backlit, but I was wrong. I bought it in Spain where I am working at the moment. Have you got one of this model with backlit keyboard? If not the same model (not 11W), any P750 with backlit keyboard?

Satellite P750-11W has no backlit keyboard thats right but there are many other Satellite P750 models with backlit keyboard.
I have checked the Toshiba page and for example Satellite P750-10Q has backlit keyboard:

If you want a backlit keyboard get in contact with an authorized service provider. The guys can order all original Toshiba spare parts and exchange them. Another user has already exchanged the keyboard with a backlit one:

Backlit keyboard for 1215dx

I have seen this question asked about other laptops, but not this one. I have a g4-1215dx and was wondering if i could install a backlit keyboard. Size and making it fit is not my concern, but rather is everything there in my laptop to hook up a backlit keyboard ( no soldering )

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but as I understand it you are looking to install a Backlit keyboard on your HP Pavilion g4-1215dx Notebook Computer. Unfortunately, according to the HP G4 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide there is no backlit keyboard available for your Notebook. Normally you would find your part number for the backlit keyboard located under the keyboard section (in this case on page 21) and there is none indicated for your product.

Satellite A500 PSAM3A-04200E seems to belong to Toshiba Australian notebook series.
In order to use a backlit keyboard, the motherboard needs to provide a special connector/port for keyboard illumination cable.
You could get some details from a Toshiba ASP in Australia

But I found some parts retailer and many of them provides keyboards W/O BACKLIGHT

It is not easy to get such info. You know it is marketing decision which models will be offered on certain market.
What you can do is to check official Toshiba Poland page and check which models will be available in your country. I believe in the future Toshiba will offer more and more models and I can imagine U500 with keyboard back-light will be offered in the future.
Try to contact someone from Toshiba department in your country. If someone has info about that this must be the right address.

Backlit Keyboard has stopped working on Satellite P50-A-12Z

I bought my Satellite P50-A-12Z over a year ago, and since few weeks the backlit keyboard has stopped working.
I used to hold FN+W to turn on/off the light keyboard, but now it doesn't work anymore and I have the message "chronometer" on the top right of the screen as you can see on this screenshot:

I don't know if this will help but try please following: perform complete shutdown - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2B03EY0002R01.htm
Start notebook again and press F12. There you should find option to enter BIOS settings. Enter BIOS settings and try to enable keyboard backlight there.
Please test it and send some feedback.
