Satellite A500-1F4 - Blinking Ac & Battery LED

Hi,
My computer was working perfectly , week ago I have tried to power the computer but I have found both the white LED for AC and the amber LED for the battery are flashing - when I press the power nothing happens just blank screen no sound comes from the computer - then I took the battery out and tried again to put the power cord - the ac LED now is steady but nothing again when i press the power switch. any suggestion ?

In case the procedure described by Keany would not work, I would recommend you to replace the memory modules.
RAM malfunction is a typical reason why the unit does not power up.
But of course you should consider that this is only my personal opinion. Without any hardware check its simply not possible to say whats wrong with a notebook.
I think RAM can be replaced easy and its not very expensive. 2nd RAM modules can be purchased from some dealers downtown or on some internet public sale portals.

  • Does Satellite A500-1f4 have 3G modem (3G support)?

Please if anyone can help me with this.
Does Satellite A500-1f4 have 3G modem (3G support)? because the sim card slot is wider than the sim card..

    Hi sadek2007,
Normally you can answer this question yourself. Therefore you have to check the specifications on the Toshiba website:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/product/Satellite-A500-1F4/1080923/
As you can see, this model isnt equipped with 3G modem.
To use 3G, you have to use an external solution on this notebook.

  • Question about LCD screen on Satellite A500-1F4

    Hi everyone.
I am planning to purchase new laptop and I've seen the specs of Satellite A500-1 F4 and Satellite L505-13W. I like the 16" screen in A500 but there is one thing not clear, what do they mean about truebright display? Compared to L505, it has HD LED display.
Also, what is much better video card? NVIDIA GE force or the ATI Radeon? Both the A500 and L505 have the same 1GB video card capacity, the difference in the brand.
    Thank you.

You see, it's like with Cpu from Intel and Amd. Some users say that Intel is better, when others are Amd.

  • Satellite A500-18Q - new stronger battery needed

I own a satellite laptop for a year now, and my battery has already degraded so much that its becoming increasingly annoying to use it.
I want to buy a new one, but I would like a stronger one if possible.
Is there a battery competible with the Satellite A500-18Q that lasts more than 2 hours (when new)?
    thank you!

    thank you.
well, I use the laptop for both studies and entertainment, and also use graphic programs, both art programs and 3D programs. the battery friendly settings lower the comp and screen preformance, and that wont do. I'v heard a rumor about a battery strong enough to last 6 hours that is competible with my comp, but cant find it. I wonder if there is any truth in it. its hard to get by with 2 hours of battery at most, when one has a 4 hour classes.

  • Satellite L455 - Power plug and battery LEDs on and it flashing orange

I have a Satellite L455 that has been working perfectly for over six months now but from two weeks ago it started behaving strangely.
I switched off the machine normally in the evening as I was going to sleep. In the morning when I switched it on it powered on, HDD and Power On Leds blinked blue for a few seconds then they went off. Machine did not boot. I tried to switch it on again and it did the same thing. Then I saw the 'power plug on' and 'Battery On' Leds flashing orange at the same time. I unplugged the power adapter. The two leds were still flashing but machine will not power up. I removed the battery for a bout 5 minutes then reinserted it and the machine worked fine the whole day.
I switched it off removed the power plug and in the morning still it would not boot until when I removed the battery for a few minutes then it works again. The battery is charging fine as when I remove it and reinsert it even without plugging power cable still fires up and perfectly works.
Then I removed the battery and the power plug and pressed the power button for thirty seconds to discharge the machine and then put back power and battery and it worked until I switched off again and removed power then it did not come on again.
If I just shut down machine and I dont switch off power plug then I can switch back on and work with the machine with no hassle even for three days continuously.
What could be wrong? Any help will really be appreciated.
    Regards
    Yusuf

    Hi chidzungo,
This must be definitely a hardware malfunction but its strange why it appears every day after you have shut down the notebook. Do you use original Toshiba AC/DC adapter and battery? Have you connected external devices to your notebook? If yes remove them before you turn on your notebook.
What BIOS version is installed at the moment? You should look on Toshiba website for an update. BIOS update could also help and its worth a try.
Before you start the BIOS update read the BIOS update instructions [HERE|http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=60]
Satellite L455 seems to be an US model so the BIOS update can be downloaded on Toshiba US page but check the exact part number first:

  • Satellite A500-14k - HDD LED indicator always blinking

    Hi
First sorry for my bad english
    I'm french and i recently bought a Toshiba Satellite A500-14k ( http://fr.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/product/Satellite-A500-14K/1072806 )
I've got a little problem with this notebook and i don't know if someone has a solution
The LED indicator of the HDD is constantly flashing (1 blink per second) even in safe mode. I checked some forums and i have learned that there was something to do with the cd /dvd autorun function of the CD/DVD recorder.
If the autorun function is deactivate in windows registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servi ces\CDRom and key value changed from 1 to 0) the blinking disappears but i can't access any of my CD or DVD data ( the media are marked as blank). However, audio CD and video DVD are working except that they can't be started automatically.
The same thing happens if the CD/DVD recorder is deactivated in the device manager of the control panel : the led indicator has a normal activity.
I would like if this problem occurs with other owners of this product and if there is a solution to use normally the recorder without this flash
    Thanks

I don't have A500 but A300 and I cannot say for sure why this happen and what kind of HDD activity is in progress but what you can try is to remove some Toshiba preinstalled stuff like TEMPRO or preinstalled antivir application.
When the notebook is brand new first days many updates will be installed and in the background is always some activity. Is automatic update disabled?
Try also to remove TEMPRO. This tool is permanent active and search for updates.
Try simply to optimize preinstalled OS and watch carefully if something will change. I do it always after clean OS installation.

  • Satellite A10: Battery-LED blinks with AC

Not too long ago I bought a new battery for my notebook. About a half year it worked well. But one day I couldn't start the notebook without AC. I thought, the battery was simply discharged. So I set up the AC-adapter, but the next time, the notebook didn't start either. With AC no problem.
So I charged the battery, and when Windows said, Battery Full, and the LED was green, I disconnected the AC. But then, the notebook fully stopped, as if there was no battery.
Now it is this way: it doesn't matter what Windows sais. The Notebook doesn't start without AC. After a disconnection of AC, the battery-LED blinks fastly orange. When windows runs, it only blinks slowly orange.
Where is the problem? Does anyone know a solution?

    Hi
In my opinion there are two possibilities.
Either the battery is dead and must be replaced or the notebooks power supply electronic malfunctions.
The first possibility is not serious problem because the battery replacement should helps to solve this issue but if the notebooks power supply electronic does not work properly, the whole motherboard should be replaced.
I think its advisable to contact the ASP in your country because the guys could locate the fault very quickly and could provide the best solution.
    Good luck buddy

  • Satellite L645 - power & battery led keep blinking

I have toshiba L645 that just bought like a year.
Since few weeks i got this power & battery led give me yellow blinking.
My L645 can be on by using battery alone & does't give any blinking led but if i connect the power AC plug it give me power & battery blinking like 1 second per blink and if i unplug battery and trying to on using power AC alone my laptop suddenly turn off when this blinking occur.
What is going on with my L645? Any suggestion?
Thanks in advance.....(by the way my L645 running with windows 7 Home Premium)

    Hi
The power LED flashing means that there is a problem with the power supply.
Im not quite sure but possibly your AC adaptor is not OK.
I think the notebook should be checked using the new AC adaptor.
But of course if could be also a problem with power supply electronic on the motherboard. In such case the new AC adaptor would not help you but in such case the motherboard should be replaced.

  • Satellite A500-1GL: Is it advisable to remove battery when using mains

I know this is a silly question but its actually something i don't know so thought i would ask.
I nearly always plug my notebook into the mains power supply (Sat a500 1gl)
Just wondering do you actually have to keep the battery installed even when using mains.
Or is it actually advisable to remove the battery when using mains?
I did not know if the battery should always be in place.
    Thanks for your help
    torti

I use notebooks for 10 years now and i have changed several of them. To be clear I use it daily for my business and it is always connected to the mains but I have never removed the battery.
At the moment I use 3 years old Satellite P200. Battery was never removed but if I try to use it on battery power supply I can work almost two hours without problems. Satellite A500 is one of the newest notebook models with battery of the latest generation so it is not so sensitive as old one and I don't think you must remove it all the time. What you can is to use it from time to time on battery only to make it empty and make full load again.
Many people here have different opinion and at least it is your decision what to do.

  • Satellite A500 - Battery light flashes when connected to mains power

    Win 7 Satellite A500 PSAM3A-03P00E.
The battery light flashes when connected to mains power (intermittent fault), when I unplug mains and re-connect flashing stops and battery (high capacity) continues to charge.
Also when battery light flashes the key board back lighting stays on when it should blank out and if the back lighting is off and the battery light starts flashing the key board back lighting doesn't turn on, all other functions seem to work fine.
The battery charges and holds charge as it should (when light flashes battery doesn't charge).

    Hi
Did you notice this issue from first day of purchase?
Theoretically it could be possible that your battery starts to malfunction
At the other hand an electronic issue might be possible too
    However, try this:
Remove ac adaptor and battery. Then press and hold power buttons 30 sec long.
Then insert the battery and connect AC adaptor again does it helps?
By the way: is BIOS up to date? If not, perform an update.

  • Red Battery LED keeps blinking

I have a Dell Mini 9 which has a battery that sucks. It can only last a couple of minutes without being attached before it dies. Anyways, I didn't really care about this until I installed 'acpi' so I could get information about my battery and temperature sent to me.
But since then the red battery LED has just kept blinking. Even when the adapter is plugged in. Its been blinking for the past two hours now... I'm not sure what its trying to warn me about but its irritating. How can I turn it off?
I'm not sure what information to give in this case, so sorry I don't have anything in this post for you guys. But I can pull up anything that will help fix this problem.
    Thanks.

A couple minutes? That seems strange.
    Try:
    cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/info
This should give you some info on the battery and possibly tell you if the battery is bad or not.

  • Satellite A500-19t - Battery does not charge anymore

    Hi,
I have a Satellite A500-19t and since last week my battery no longer charges.
When i start the laptop, the charge light is on for a few seconds but then turns off.
In windows, he knows the battery is in place but it doesn't charge it. Is this the battery that died?
Should i buy a new one?
Or could it be something else?
    Anyone experienced this issue?

    Hi
    Try to update the BIOS.
Sometimes the BIOS update helps to solve some battery issues but to be honest, it sounds a little bit like a battery malfunction in such case the battery needs to be replaced.
    By the way...test this workaround:
    Disconnect AC
    Shutdown
    Remove battery
    Connect AC
    Startup
Under the Batteries category, right-click all of the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listings, and select Uninstall (its ok if you only have 1).
    Shutdown
    Disconnect AC
    Insert battery
    Connect AC
    Startup

  • Satellite A500-17X - Games slow down if I play on battery mode

    Hi
When my laptop (Satellite A500-17X) is plugged in, the game I play (Call Of Duty 4) works very nice but if I try to play the game while my laptop is on battery the games slows down. If you know what I mean.
Is this supposed to happen because the graphic card doesn't work well when the laptop is on battery or is something wrong with my laptop?

    Hi
As mentioned my Syntax, Windows power management decreases the performance of some devices like GPU or CPU using battery mode.
This helps to safe the battery power and to increase the battery working time
Furthermore your cooling modules dont run with full performance using battery and this would lead to a higher internal temperature which could slow down the CPU and GPU as well
So connected the AC adaptor or change the settings in power management but you should note that this will decrease the battery working time dramatically.

  • "Touch" buttons no longer work on Satellite A500-14L

    Hi,
    I am owner of Satellite A500-14L (PSAM3E).
I noticed today that the buttons for switching to ECO mode, or turning keyboard's lights on and off are no longer working, however, witching those settings via Toshiba assist utilities works perfectly.
I did *not* reconfigure the buttons usage. I was wondering if there was an easy way to "restore" their default functionnalities...
    Thanks by advance !!
(Already tried shutdown / restart / delog-relog things)

Unfortunately, reinstalling toshiba VAP did not solve the problem.
    Here's another strange thing:
-I tried to assign different programs to both the eco and the 'lights' buttons with toshiba button setting program
-when I then touch a button, it "reacts", which means it beeps, or even blinks for the "light" button, but nothing happens. I mean really nothing, whichever program or file I assign to the button...
This make me think that the buttons themselves are not faulty, since they beep and blink. What seems to be faulty is the "pipe" that lies behind that step.
Thanks for any other help you may give ! And thanks for your answers that were usefull anyway...

  • Sattelite Pro U300: Battery LED does not indicate low power using Linux

    Hi,
I have Sattelite Pro U300 and I'm using Linux.
I've notice one problem on my PC, it does not indicate that battery power is low (not blinking) and just turns off.
Is it this indicator driven by software or it is some hardware problem on my laptop?
Another small issue that monitor does not remember brightness for battery mode.
    Thanks

    Hi
    >I've notice one problem on my PC, it does not indicate that battery power is low (not blinking) and just turns off. Is it this indicator driven by software or it is some hardware problem on my laptop?
    >Another small issue that monitor does not remember brightness for battery mode.
Please dont be mad at me but firstly I would not speak about problems if you use the Linux on the Toshiba notebook. Fact is that Linux is not supported and therefore some notebooks features could not function correctly.
    Regarding the battery led;
The LEDs are controlled by BIOS. As you know the notebook was equipped with Vista and therefore the BIOS support Vista.
As I said above, if you will use another OS like XP or possibly Linux then some features could not function correctly.
