Satellite A500-1GB - Copy dialog freezes on eSATA connection

Hi
I am experiencing troubles when using my Samsung StoryBoard (1,5 TB, eSata/USB2.0) with the Satellite A500-1GB (Windows 7 64bit):
a) When using the eSata connector (preferred):
The drive is recognized by the system, and I can read the directory information. But I can neither copy to nor read from the drive. The copy dialog freezes quickly and cannot be terminated easily.
b) When using the USB connector:
The drive is also recognized by the system, but read and copy operations take ages - I tried to perform a system backup, but cancelled it after 5 hours.
The drive is working just fine with another PC (also Windows 7 x64), so the drive itself should be ok.
I updated Satellite drivers today (BIOS, chipset and storage manager), but this didn't improve the situation at all.
Probably, the issue is due to SATA 150 versus SATA 300 protocol? Does A500-1GB support SATA 300 (SATA 2) or just SATA 150 (SATA 1)? Is there a specific SATA-driver (Intel?) that I could give a try? Where could I check which SATA-protocol is currently used?
Or do you have any other hints on how I could solve this issue?
Best Regards,
Waschlappen

Hi
Thanks for the reply.
- I checked the drive on the other PC using the same eSata-cable.
The drive worked just fine.
- I also tried a different eSata cable, but the drive didn't even start up. So I switched back to the orginal cable.
- As I wrote in my original post, I already reinstaled/updated the chipset driver.
So probably you have additional hints for me?
Do you know whether the Satellite is supposed to support SATA II drives?
Next thing I'll check is to configure the drive to run SATA I only (I found a software tool for that purpose from the manufacturer).

  • Satellite A500 Issues (graphics Card freezes when Gaming)

Hi Everyone hoping you can help!!
I recently purchased my Satellite A500 Laptop and I have 2 extremley bad issues!!!
Firstly apparently my model number doesnt exist it is PSAM3A-04100E which is proving to be a right royal pain in the preverbial when it comes to upgrading to windows 7!
    Secondly is my major issue,
I do a lot of gaming (sims 3, Callof Duty that sort of thing...) and whenever I am playing I think wow this is great excellent fps great graphics and then FREEZE!!! my computer completley locks up and shuts down, no warning signs of lagging slowing down or anything and it does it constantly!!!
I was wondering if anyone else is suffering from this problem or whether I look should look for a driver update I have searched around but cant seem to find it anywhere.
I dont really want to take it back to the shop because then I wont have a compuer for weeks!
Any help would be massively appreciated,
    Many thanks
    Tasman

    >PSAM3A-04100E
Where you bought your notebook? What is the country of purchase?
    New Zealand maybe?
Please visit http://www.toshiba.com.au/ > New Zealand and you should find your notebook model there but as I can see Win7 drivers are not available at the moment.
Next week I will get my Satellite A500 and I will test it with Call of Duty 4 and let you know how it works.
Anyway before you start the game stop all useless running processes and set power plan to full power. Be also sure your notebook can take a breath and cooling fans are not blocked somehow. Put also back side of your notebook on two CD boxes to have higher distance between notebook and the desk.
I hope everything will works well.

  • Satellite A500-15M: Cannot connect to TV using HDMI

    Hi,
I have a Satellite A500-15M. I recently tried to connect to my TV so I could watch some online shows on my Hannspree Xv HD ready TV.
The HDMI out doesn't register at all on the TV - the TV displays a message 'not supported' and remains blank (as if there is no signal) - On the PC display settings it doesn't recognise the TV... in fact it [Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel] says that monitor/TV settings are not supported.
But I can connect via the VGA output - although I have to drop the display settings down to 1024x768 for it to show on the telly. Additionally the display on the TV then is mostly pink and red, even though my pc display pic is mostly blue. - the Toshiba start up screen shows on the TV without any issues, and a couple of times the log in screen has displayed fine too, but then sometimes it doesn't...
I know it is not the VGA cable as I can connect to the TV with it on my wife's advent netbook without any issues.
Are there any drivers I need to update/ download? Or settings I need to change?
How can I get my display onto my TV?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Hi
First of all you should connect both devices (notebook and TV via HDMI) when both devices are powered off. After that power up the TV and the notebook.
You should choose the HDMI channel on TV and then should use the key combination FN + F5 in order to switch the video output to the TV.
If it does not help, try to update the graphic card driver.
It seems your notebook supports the Intel graphic chip. Therefore you could check the Intel page for new drivers.

  • Satellite A500 - mouse pad freezes every time I go onto the internet

    Hi all,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A500 and every time I go onto the internet my mouse pad freezes. The only option I have is to restart the computer again. This is becoming very frustrating as I do not know what to do?
If someone can help this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
    Cheers
    Karen.

    Hello Karen
To be honest I have never heard about something like this and believe you are the first one with this strange issue.
I would like to know since when you have noticed this? I cannot imagine this issue persists from the first day.
Do you have original preinstalled operating system?
I can imagine the first step can be BIOS update. Is latest BIOS installed on your Satellite Notebook?

  • Satellite A500-19x - Suddenly blue screen appears in Windows 7

    I have satellite a500-19x,
There are one problem every time and every days when i working.
Suddenly the windows stopped for several moments then blue screen and restart windows .

    hi,
if you want to update your Bios, go to the Toshiba driver page and choose the appropriate Bios version for you model. Download it and run. Don't forget to close all the running programs, disable Antivirus, Firewall before running it. Then, you will be asked to restart the computer. Pray that Bios process would occur properly otherwise you will have blank screen on startup. In this case, you will have to contact TASP (Toshiba authorized service provider).
To be honestly, I don't recommend you to flash the Bios, in your case it doesn't help your in audio crackling and BSOD. I updated my BIos but it didn't fix the problem. I think, it's graphic driver issue. You can go to the nvidia.com and download a new graphic card driver released recently. Install it and check. I also had audio crackling and the system freezing that gone after updating that driver. Note, that driver isn't pretested by Toshiba (not modified for overheating protection, anyway the users say this in the forum) but install it at my own risk and still have no problems.

  • Satellite A500 - Slower with Videos on Windows 7

Hi, I am desperately in need of advice, I am 78 years old and going up the wall.
My Satellite A500/03P was purchased with Vista preinstalled and worked well. My particular interest is the running and creation of video training clips for other Senior Citizens, as purchased video ran well, stutter free. I took up the offer of upgrading to Windows 7 and purchased the upgrade, things have gone rapidly downhill since. The Windows 7 install went crazy during install, requiring me to take the computer to a service shop. It was returned with Windows 7 installed, but was considerably slower with videos run from the hard drive stuttering, even worse from my ADSL2 Internet connection running at around 1.25M bits per sec.
After a while I took it back to the service man and $200 later was supplied with a dual boot hard drive, Windows 7 32 bit and Windows 7 64 bit. The system is realy virtually unuseable for video. I have downloaded and installed all of the 32 and 64 bit drivers available from Toshiba but have had to abandon the 64 bit completely as unuseable. I have tried to install another copy of Vista Ultimate, purchased for my old desktop, but could not get the Internet to work, either direct or via WIFI on the laptop.
I have tried to run the Toshiba on the 32bit Windows 7, but the Laptop is far too slow, even my email creeps in to the email readere. Any advice would be most appreciated as my pension wont support the local service peoples charges. Should I purchase the original Toshiba disks and return to "ex Factory Vistor State" or what.
    Regards
    LeslieB

I have often seen/heard of people having issues with upgrading to Win 7 from Vista. If some one were to ask me what to do when wanting to ugprade, I would probably advise a clean install.
If you do not want to try that route yet, hm...
    *Video/Audio*
In advanced power settings, do you have any listing for multimedia?
For the HDMI issues, I am not sure what the problem is, but if there is a listing for multimedia settings in advanced power settings, for which you can set it to maxium performance, hopefully that may solve the case. If it is not there, I will try and tell you what to do.
IF the sound does not stutter in HDMI, then the audio must be fine...
    Try this link: [http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/274828-33-hdmi-output-device-windows-radeon-4650]
I am not sure how to help here yet!
    *Connecting to Internet WiFi/direct*
Does it still work in Win 7? Might be a OS driver update kind of thing.

  • After BIOS update Intel Speed Step not working on Satellite A500

I upgraded my Satellite A500 PSAM3E model to the newest BIOS 1.50, now the Intel speed step not working!
My CPU is always 2GHz+, I chagned Power Plan to balanced, but no change... with previous the CPU was around 800 MHz.
When I try to change Windows 7 power management and set maximum CPU performance to 50 or 80% the system freezes.

    Hey Szaby59,
Which older BIOS version did you use before update to 1.50?
I also use the maximum CPU performance option for Eco mode (50%) but this does work properly.
Furthermore it would be interesting to know if you use factory settings or your own Windows installation. Normally after using Toshiba recovery disk you dont have to install any Toshiba tools anymore. Everything is preinstalled on your notebook.

  • Satellite A500 - No region free software works

I have loads of DVDs from US and UK and Turkey. US DVD's are region 1 and i set my computer to that since most of my TV Show DVDs are from there. But i have region 2 DVDs too and i want to be able to watch them.
With my old Vaio I used DVD X Player. On my new Satellite A500 i tried DVD X Player, AnyDVD and DVDFabPassKey7 but none of them worked. For the first 2, I can't get to the main menu in any of my DVDs. For the last program, the program recognises the DVD (it even gives its name) but when i open WMP it says "Unknown DVD" and stays on the black screen.
    How can i solve this?

Due to film industry copy rights or whatever the usage of different region code DVDs on optical drives is limited. You can change it 4 times and last used region will be set as default.
To be honest I don't believe there is much you can do about that. I know it is very annoying but on official and legal way there is no much options.
Google a little bit around, maybe you can find some tool that can unlock this.

  • Satellite A500-026 - Can't do anything that involes networking

I bought a Satellite A500-026 and just took it out of box.
Cannot do anything that involves networking, they all freeze or load up blank, internet explorer does not open up at all. I cannot turn my firewalls on or antivirus on.
Not to mention for a new machine with a P8800 processor its pretty slow (my 5yo laptop is faster).
    Stuck

    Hello
I really don't know what do you do with your notebook and believe me it would be nice to see how the first start looks like.
In my opinion you should start HDD recovery installation again and start your notebook again with clean preinstalled OS.
When installation is finished and all processes are running the first thing you should do is to connect LAN cable to your notebook and start internet explorer.
I am 100% sure you will get LAN signal and be able to see start page.
We don't know what you do exactly. Maybe you have installed some third part software or changed OS settings. Fact is that clean preinstalled OS will not have such problems.

  • When does the Satellite A500 comes out in Europe?

    Hi everyone,
I wanted to know if anyone knew when will the Satellite A500 come out in Europe (France more particularly) because I was going to buy the A300D-219 ( [http://www.cdiscount.com/informatique/ordinateurs-pc-portables/toshiba-satellite-a300d-219/f-107092212-PSAHCE01U00LFR.html?search=toshiba&trilist=0&numpa ge=1] )
But if the A500 comes out in 1 month it maybe doesn't worth it, I need it for my studies, so for september...
    Thanks !

Well I have to admit it is beautiful! The specifications can be found here: [http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/product/Satellite-A500-134/1070179/]
It is a powerful machine. The harman/kardon speakers sound very nice and clear compared to their size (they dont give you bass of course) Wireless is perfect, no connection losses. It is not warming. 32 and a 64 bit version Vista.
    Some probably negative comments:
    - the position of the intake vent is at the bottom
    - no S-video port (only VGA and HDMI) so I can not connect it to my CRT tv set :(
    - battery time is not so long
    - I hoped the keyboard has backlit, but I was wrong
    - 25! Toshiba utility programs (come on! is it neccessary???)

  • Question about LCD screen on Satellite A500-1F4

    Hi everyone.
I am planning to purchase new laptop and I've seen the specs of Satellite A500-1 F4 and Satellite L505-13W. I like the 16" screen in A500 but there is one thing not clear, what do they mean about truebright display? Compared to L505, it has HD LED display.
Also, what is much better video card? NVIDIA GE force or the ATI Radeon? Both the A500 and L505 have the same 1GB video card capacity, the difference in the brand.
    Thank you.

You see, it's like with Cpu from Intel and Amd. Some users say that Intel is better, when others are Amd.

  • Satellite A500 - Is there a model with 2nd internal HDD?

Is there an A500 model with 2 internals hard disks?

    Hi!
You can check this on the Toshiba website in specifications of the notebook if its equipped with 2nd HDD ;)
But I have checked the Toshiba website for you and it seems that Satellite A500 isnt equipped with 2nd HDD.
So if you want a 2nd HDD you have to use an external one that you can connect via fast eSATA port for example.
    Bye

  • Satellite A500-1GL - Windows 7 power options and gaming

    Hi all
Some may know from my previous posts about my issue with the fan on my Satellite A500-1GL causing me concern when I am online gaming. Hitting 90% is worrying. And its still happening with the BIOS update and Toshiba now advising to do a factory restore then if that fails send in for repair.
    Looking at the power options,
I was wondering if anyone could recommend what power options I should consider and would this make any difference for the fan gaming wise (secondlife seems to be the main problem with the fan cranking up)
Any help would be appreciated, trying to think of anything that could help that may be an easy solution to this fan issue
    torti :)

    Hello
To be honest a lot of fan activity during gaming would be normal I think because games need a lot of CPU and GPU power, they always run on a very high level. That means a lot of heat will be produced and this must be cooled to avoid hardware damages.
Furthermore if I play games, its not important how much noise the fan creates because I hear the game music or dialogs Isnt it so? ;)
Anyway, from time to time its recommendable to clean the cooling system of your notebook using compressed air spray:
[How to clean the cooling system of a Toshiba notebook? |http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=40]
And for gaming you can use High Performance or Balanced power option of Windows.

  • Satellite A500 - Flash Cards don't work after Windows 7 upgrade

    Hi,
I have a Satellite A500 PSAM3A-04200E. Recently I did an upgrade from Vista to Win 7. I used my system restore disks to reinstall Vista and then did the upgrade to Windows 7 using the upgrade assistant.
I find that I can no longer use the Fn key to enable/disable features..
I have tried downloading the VAP and running it. I have also tried the Start->Toshiba->Utilities->Restart Flash Cards. Neither of these have worked even after a restart...
Can anyone give me some pointers on what to do next?
    Thanks

    Hi buddy,
If you have already reinstalled Toshiba Value Added Package, you should also (re)install Flash Cards Support Utility. This tool controls the FN keys and is necessary to get them working.
You can download it on official Toshiba website:
    www.mytoshiba.com.au
    Check this!!!

  • Satellite A500 - Upgrading from Vista to Windows 7 error

I'm trying to upgrade my Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium via the Toshiba Upgrade Assistance so it will automatically download some Toshiba's utilites and software. At the start of launching it, an error message "This model does not support upgrade to Windows 7" at the 'Download Window 7 Component List' step and can't continue. I'm confused as this as the Win7 Upgrade disc that I purchased and recieved at the start of the year from Toshiba website. I have a Satellite A500 that i've purchased late last year. It's not an old model and I believe it was able to upgrade to window 7.
I had managed to do a clean installation once a while back but realised all the Toshiba's things weren't there no more so then I recovered it back to Vista (but instead of the initial 32bit, I've changed it to 64bit). So now it's operating on a 64bit Vista.
I'm not sure if changing it from 32bit to 64bit has anything to do with it or if there's something I need to install before I upgrade....I followed the steps on the Toshiba website to upgrade but stuck at this step. I'm not good with computers so much help would be greatly appreciated and Thanks in advance.

As far as I know with this upgrade kit you can upgrade 32bit and also 64bit system so this is definitely not the problem.
Toshiba upgrade kit has two medias. Upgrade DVD and so called composite disc that contains drivers and Toshiba tools and utilities. Upgrade must be started with this composite disc and not directly with upgrade DVD.
Please start upgrade with software disc and just follow the menu on the screen. It will scan the system and offer the list which software must be removed from the system before upgrade installation can be started.
