Satellite A500: display driver & CD burning issue

I am having problems with the Nvidia Windows Kernel Mode Driver Version 187.98. I went back to Harvey Norman where I bought it from and they said update the driver. I have got the updates and it still happens. Sometimes more than 6 times in a few hours.
Now I am having trouble burning photos to a disc.
I really feel like throwing this computer out the door and I have only had it for 3 months and have had nothing but troubles with it.
Do all Satellite A500 perform like this

> Do all Satellite A500 perform like this
I dont think so
You should use the Toshiba graphic card driver in most cases these drivers are pretested and should work properly. BIOS should be up to date too!
> Now I am having trouble burning photos to a disc.
You have to check if new CD/DVD firmware is available for your CD/DVD drive.
You should look on the Toshiba European driver page. In More Info you will get some details about the available firmware.
If there is no firmware available, then you should test different CDs and DVDs from different manufacturers

  • Satellite A500 - Display driver stopped responding

    Hi,
    3 weeks ago I bought brand new Toshiba A500. I post here because I didn't find any helpful solution.
    Here is specification:
    Processor: intel core i3 M330 2.13GHz
    Graphic: NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M (1024 MB)
    Hard drive: MJA2320BH G2 (320 GB, 5400 RPM, SATA-II)
    RAM: 2X 2 GB DDR3-1066 DDR3 SDRAM (7-7-7-20 @ 533 MHz) (6-6-6-18 @ 457 MHz)
    Audio: Realtek ALC272 @ Intel Ibex Peak PCH
    System: Windows 7 64bit - directed from Toshiba
    The issue is: at random situations, the screen is turn black for a couple of seconds, then the message is pop up saying "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered - display driver NVIDIA Kernel Mode Driver, Version 187.98 stopped responding and has successfully recovered." It happens several times per day.
    Sometimes display driver can't be recovered and than system hangs and must be reset. Problem occur at first day after five minutes of using (when there wasn't install anything without OS).
    Problem occurs always during normal working with applications (MS office, firefox, etc.). It's completely random - there in not two the same situations - so when I watch hd films in youtube on full screen it crashes several times, but when I restart OS and than play the same movie it works correctly.
    Application causes this problem is called TDR (Time-out Detection and Recovery).
    This application reset GPU when didn't get respond during 2 sec. But in Windows7 registry doesn't have entries controlled this application.
    Since than I tried following solutions:
    - BIOS update;
    - System reinstall;
    - Display driver update to version 197.16;
    - Checking temperature on graphic card (when issue occurs temperature on graphic card didn't exceed 47deg, and processor 36deg);
    - Java update (older version of Java can causes some device problems);
    - Adobe update (same as Java);
    - Turn off aero;
    - Windows 7 updates;
    - Turn off audio (realtek card);
    None of them works.
    The problem didn't occur during playing games (i.ex. Witcher). I can play 8 hours and nothing weird happens.
    I notice also that problem occurs during opening some applications or entering new tasks (when energy demand rapidly increases).
    I wondering that is some driver problem or I should return the laptop to the service.
    I suspect that problem can be to big difference in voltage on graphic card but I can't verified that.
    If somebody meet with this problem I will appreciate any help.

    hi,
    i had the same issue with my A500-1dn equipped with GT 230 M, getting the message ,,Display driver stopped responding,,. I updated the card graphic driver from nvidia.com 3 weeks ago and since that time it' s gone ( I hope forever).

  • Satellite A500 - NVIDIA driver stopped responding and has recovered

    Hello.
    I have a TOSHIBA Satellite A500-1GP. I bought this laptop 1 mounth ago, and from 2 weeks before I start to have problem with it. The screen it goes black, like 2-3 seconds, after is appear this message " Nvidia driver stopped responding and has recovered" Is really start to stressing me. I install the laptop with all his original driver, and his original Windows 7. I didn't make any reinstall, or something else.
    The updates ar UP TO DATE, and I have no ideea what he should want from my life. Like this are all the new models ? Start to make problems from the begining ? I'm waiting some answers..
    Thanks..

    My config:
    - Toshiba Satellite A500-1GR
    - Process: Intel Core i5
    - RAM: 4096 Mo DDR3
    - Graphic card: nVidia GeForce GT 330M
    I had the same problem the graphic driver installed was the 258.96 Version. I kept it up-to-date using nVidia official web site... Afterwards, I believe I was wrong to do so.
    I did as you suggested.
    - I went to the [Toshiba Support Center|http://fr.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/generic/SUPPORT_PORTAL/]
    - I downloaded and installed the 20/08/10 BIOS Update
    - I downloaded and installed the 08/06/10 Display Driver
    After that, I checked the version of the GeForce GT 330M driver, it's now 188.75.
    I have no problem since I did this in the beginning of this afternoon. What a relief !
    Thank for your Support!
    If I encounter the issue again, I will notify it in this thread, but I hope this issue is solved and that I won't need to!

  • Satellite P300: Display Driver has stopped working using external monitor

    I have a number of these Satellite P300 PSPCCA-OC201Y and recently bought external monitors for them.
    Since then we seem to be getting "Display Driver has stopped working and has recovered" messages, then after about 5 of these, it crashes.
    Starting with one machine, I have updated display drivers, bios was current, all to no avail.
    I then did a complete system restore back to original. Has not solved the problem.
    Any ideas?

    hi Keven Dickenson,
    as you said you restored the system and still there is no way to get things work it may be a hardware issue...
    i my opinion you should consult a servicepartner to check this out...
    is there any of the machines working with the external monitor at all?
    if none of them is able to connect to ext. display maybe your installation has a problem or the monitor is faulty...
    try it with another monitor and recover one system to factory installation....

  • Toshiba Satellite P500 "Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered."

    I have a Toshiba Satellite P500/XEO PSPGSA - 1XE08L Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) system.  I’ve received the following random message Since I bought the computer back in 2011--- “Display Driver stopped responding and has recovered.” Since I have bought the computer I have returned it to Harvey Norman where I purchased it from for them to fix the issue. They have reformatted and whiped the computer a couple times aswell as going to the toshiba website and installing the latest drivers. I also have done the same steps as Harvey Norman.
    The computer has been sent back to Toshiba also, It was overheating so Toshiba has put a new CPU into the computer to fix that issue and also the hard drive had a fault sector so Toshiba installed a new hard drive. When Toshiba had the laptop they tried to fix this issue with no result.
    This issue is more annoying then anything because it happens often (a few times a day) and some of the time when the driver fails and the screen stays black, the only way you can fix this is a hard shut down by holding the off button.
    I have looked at all the threads and have seen a lot of people having this problem. I have tried all the ideas and people's ways to fix this issue but nothing has worked.
    This problem needs to be solved and I don't want to hear that I need to reformat my computer or restore it to factory settings like tech support have told me to do because both myself and Harvey Norman has done this and IT HASN'T Fixed the issue. This issue can't be good for the computer..
    I am very dissapointed, after nearly 2 years of having this laptop the problem hasn't been fixed and Toshiba has no idea how to fix this issue. This laptop cost me over 2500 dollars and I have had more problems then I would have had with a 500 dollar computer.

    No reply from Toshiba yet? Great customer service.
    Anyways this is a snapshot of my screen going black and then coming back with a message popping up stating that the Display Driver has stopped responding and has recovered.
    As you can see the window that I am in turns fully black after the driver recovers, I have to close the window and re open it. This happens many times a day.
    I also am getting the display Driver crashing and the whole screen turns black and stays black, no matter what you do the screen stays black. I hit Cntrl + Alt + Del and nothing works making me shut it down by holding the on/off key
    I do a lot of business on this computer and use it for all purposes. Due to this issue, every time the screen goes black and I have to hard restart the computer I lose all my work. Due to not knowing when this will happen I am having to lose a lot of work and start all over again.
    This is ridiculous and Needs to be fixed. I am a Toshiba Customer and I have spent my money for the best of your products and I am very disappointed with the outcome. There has been no help, I have had nothing but issues and the customer service and support for your company is atrocious.
    In future I will no longer be buying Toshiba and I know a lot of other people who have seen this issue and had the same problems with Toshiba support that they won't be using Toshiba either.

  • Satellite A200 - Display driver stopped responding

    Periodically I see this warning: [http://s001.radikal.ru/i193/1002/2b/ee6a610aa864.jpg]
    It appears after short blackout by no reason. What is it?
    Satellite A200-1CR / Windows 7 Professional

    Hi createa,
    Have you tried reinstalling the display driver? I also dont know why this happens but theoretically this could solve the problem.
    You can download the latest version here:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
    Before you install the latest version I would recommend removing the old one first. Then restart your notebook and install the newest one.
    Good luck! :)

  • Satellite A350 - Display driver stopped responding and has recovered

    Hi guys
    I am new to the forum
    My Satellite A350 has recovered 3 times from this message above and each time I saw the blue screen.
    I have checked that my BIOS driver is up to date by doing a Microsoft check of the driver.
    The thing that I have done differently recently is that I attached a second monitor for study purposes as an extra reading screen...and I am wondering if this has caused the driver to fail and that I should not use it anymore (or for short periods only??)
    Thanks for helping me :)

    thank you :)
    i agree that the virtual way is difficult - i appreciate your comments though.
    if i had to install the display driver again, how do i know which display driver to find and what it's name is?
    in the past 24 hours there have been no problems but i have shut the lid when not using the note book and it powers down. (powers up again when I open the lid)
    I do have the original discs i made when i first set up the note book from new (and i do back up very regularly.) are these the recovery images that you are referring to?
    i do not have 2 HDD but do have the SATA connector but have never connected it to a second HDD. i have used it at times to plug in a memory stick though. why do you ask as used it recently?

  • Satellite L500 - display driver stopped responding and has recovered

    hi
    i have a concern regarding an error in my pc ......
    the error is "display driver stopped responding and has recovered"
    i had been reinstelled the windows as well as search for apdated inter display driver
    but i didnt work .....
    i appreciate for any advice and instruction regarding this problem....
    thank you very much

    In most cases such error message is caused by graphic card driver.
    Not quite sure why the graphic card driver stops responding but I think an simple GPU driver reinstallation should be helpful to sort out such issues.
    In my case such message appeared in the past for one time. It happened while gaming.
    I guess there was an problem between the driver and game or maybe the GPU temperature was too high however, it was an temporal issue.

  • Satellite M300 - display driver stopped and recovered keeps popping up

    Hi
    I am new to this forum took me half hour to find how to post this.
    If any one knows a fix please help

    Hi
    As I understood your very short posting: you got an message that the display driver stopped or crashed and recovered again.
    Right?
    Maybe an new display driver installation would help to sort of this issue.?
    I would recommend you to uninstall the previous driver.
    Clean the system using CCLeaner (or other 3rd party tool)
    Reboot the unit, download and finally install the newest version of display driver released for your notebook model. Reboot the unit.
    Voila

  • Satellite C660 - display driver stopped responding

    I have a 3 year old Toshiba Satellite C660 and every time I play on Sims 3 the game crashes and the screen flashes black to white and displays an error message which reads "Display Driver stopped responding" and sometimes it even ends up being a blue screen saying there is a problem with the software?
    I not very computer savvy so if you could explain to me in simple terms how to rectify this problem
    Thanks

    The others asked for OS. This means Operating System like Windows ;)
    The notebook Satellite C660-11K was preinstalled with Windows 7.
    I assume you are still using this OS.
    Now to the graphic card.
    The notebook was equipped with an 1-st generation Intel i3 CPU (Nehalem) containing the HD graphic card.
    So if you need an graphic card driver, you should check the Intel page for latest driver.
    I found this latest one:
    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22518&lang=eng
    Its a zip package.
    Download and unzip the package.
    Now go to device manager and choose update driver. Now you have to use the Advanced installation procedure. This allows you to choose the driver files from the unzipped Intel graphic driver folder.
    Then reboot the notebook.
    Good luck

  • Satellite L10 - Display driver for Windows 7

    Hi
    I have a Satellite L10 and I need intel 82852/82855 display driver. I see support and download of Toshiba and intel web sit too there is not have any driver so what can I do?
    Is there any way to update that?

    Hi
    This notebook is pretty old so you will not get any Windows 7 drivers for it because its not Windows 7 supported as you can see here:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9902P50000R01.htm
    Of course you can install Windows 7 but you have to collect the drivers yourself.
    Furthermore the most Vista drivers are also work on Windows 7. Have you tried Vista drivers from Toshiba supported page for Windows 7? Its worth a try! ;)

  • Satellite A200-244 - DVD/CD burning issues

    Hi all
    I've had my Satellite A200-244 since February 2008 and I'm very happy with it apart from the cd/dvd writer which is completely useless.
    I've yet to manage to burn a cd (audio or data) without errors occuring.
    In fact these days I can't burn a cd at all - iTunes doesn't like it, Winamp doesn't like it, even Windows Media Player hates it now (it used to be OK with it).
    Is this an issue others had as well?
    I don't know what to do and I really need to be able to burn cds!
    I'd be grateful for any help/pointers.
    Many thanks.

    I still dont know the details
    What error do you get?
    What burning application do you use?
    And yes if you are using wrong or not compatible CDs you will be not able to burn the medium or it will burn but not properly.
    Furthermore some installed 3rd party applications like for example iTunes could affect the data burning.
    By the way;
    Remove the driver from device manager. Then access the registry and remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    Then restart the notebook.

  • Satellite P300 19P - CD/DVD Burning Issue

    Hi, I am new to the forum and hope that somone will be able to help.
    I am having problems burning DVD's. When I use burning software the image is usually copied ok and then the burning process starts, which usually lasts a couple of moments and then the machine spits out the disc part burnt and wasted.
    I usually use Corel DVD Copy 6, but have tried the TOSHIBA programmes and others such as NERO. Using Corel VideoStudio, this burns discs with a 90% sucess rate, but the problem comes when trying to copy my own created discs.
    I have tried different Disc types (ie +R and -R), and I have tried burning speeds too.
    Has anbody else suffered this problem?
    I have managed to find an error code 06077-26-2A040902 , does this mean anyhting to anyone?
    The TEMPRO Alerts seem to have provided firmware updates for a number of other DVD drives, but not the one in my machine? Perhpas it is due one? All the drivers are up to date.
    Thanks for listening and anybodies help is more than welcome.
    Cheers.

    Hi, sorry it has taken so long to post a reply again - many apologies.
    Thanks for you suggestion, which I have completed and tried. Although, this did help and I have managed to copy some discs with limited sucsess I am still having problems. I also made sure that the filters are still removed as mentioned.
    I use Corel VideoStudio to create my discs, which seems to work fine. The initial burn is successful and will play in any DVD machine perfectly. Since this issue I have given up using Corel DVD Copy6 and reverted to using the Toshiba DVD Backup tool, but this only allows a single disc copy (can't produce multiple copies). This works with a very low success rate.
    I have so far:
    - Made sure lense and discs are clean.
    - Tried different media (+R and -R)
    - I use good quality discs.
    - Tried the filter removing as mentioned.
    Is there any other suggestions as to what I can do to resolve this issue?
    Many thanks for your continued help.

  • Satellite 2770 - Display driver problems with Windows 2000

    Hello,
    I've a Toshiba Satellite 2770 and installed Windows 2000 on it. If I'm not wrong the S2770 does have a S3 Savage IX/MV graphic card and I downloaded the Windows 2000 driver from the S3 website but it wont be recognized by the hardware detection.
    Then I tried the Windows 95SE driver from the Toshiba website, but Windows 2000 wont acept it due it's not suitable for Windows 2000 as it seems.
    What to do? Isnt there a Windows 2000 driver out there which works? I dont want to work in 640x480 and 16 colors forever!

    Hello
    You are absolutely right. Your unit has S3 Savage IX8 graphic card but problem is that your unit is delivered with WinME operating system. That means that there is no support for other operating systems. All drivers are designed for each notebook model and OS separately. The only way to solve this problem is to install the driver given by graphic card producer. If this not works you have a big problem.
    Sorry but I really dont know what you can do. Maybe you can try to install the driver designed for Sat 2750. There is the same graphic card but driver is designed for Win98SE.
