Satellite A500 - Live Linux CD stops

The cd stop at "initramfs" and one line before "box busy not found tty...
Someone have some idea without an other CD because i need this one,
thank.

Which LiveCD did you try?
The problem could be related to a LiveCD being written in high-speed (try a checksum check to validate the CD is OK?).
At the initramfs prompt, you can type special commands only such as in this blog post, http://uncletravis.blogspot.com/2007/09/fixed-my-ubuntu-boot-problem.html
You are more likely to find some help on this at www.ubuntuforums.org (if you use Ubuntu). Also web searching for the terms you mention might help.

  • Satellite A500-1GH - display driver stopped responding and has successfully

My laptop is the A500-1GH and I bought it 2 days ago...
My problem is that for the fourth time the monitor went black and then recovered and I'm getting the message "display driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered". My graphics card is the Nvidia GeForce 330.
I would appreciate it if someone knows what should I do to fix this
    Thank you in advance

    Hi Guys,
I have experienced _*both*_ problems with my A500/O2J with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330m graphics card. Only purchased it Monday 15th February. Everything came factory installed except Office Professional 2007.
Set it up on Tuesday and it happened within 2 hours of set up, then again on the Wednesday. On the first 2 occurrances the display went black and recovered after a few seconds with a message along the lines of "graphic card driver has stopped responding and has successfully restored" then today (Friday 19/2) the screen went black and didn't come back on. I thought it had gone in to sleep mode but pressing the power button did nothing. After about 20 minutes I got the Blue Screen saying the system was shutting down to prevent unecessary damage and it then proceeded to restart.
I'm computer illiterate when it comes to this technical stuff and rang the place of purchase who told me to ring Toshiba (133 070). Of course being in the West they are closed so I will have to wait until Monday (1st day back at Uni).
Not off to a good start....so i hope this problem can be rectifed quickly and without too much fuss.
    My computer specs are as follows;
    A500/O2J
    Intel Core i5 processor
Windows 7 Home premium (32 bit)
    4GB memory
    500Gb Sata storage
    NVidia GeForce GT 330M graphics
    Karmon/Kardon speakers
Everything came factory pre-installed except printer and Office Professional 2007 but both were installed after the problem occured the first time.

  • Satellite A500 - Built in microphone stopped working

Hello everyone, Im new here but I found nowhere else to go.
I've never had problems with my microphone before and in the last 2 days it stopped working. The only thing I updated was my Windows, which is Windows 7 64 bit. The microphone is selected at the sound tab on the control panel but it just wont pick up sounds, just annoying static. I already downloaded the most up to date sounds driver from the Toshiba website and tried but it didnt help.
If anyone got an idea ill be thrilled, this is really affecting my studies.
    Thank you in advance,
    Jonathan.

    Hi buddy,
Do you use the microphone with an external application like Skype or how do you use it?
The microphone is a part of internal webcam so if you have some problems with the internal microphone I would recommend reinstalling the webcam driver that you can download on official Toshiba website:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
Remove the old webcam driver and restart the computer. Then try to install the newest one.

  • Webcam on Satellite A500 using Windows 7 and Windows Live Messenger 2009 (14.0.8089.726)

Hello. This is my very first post and maybe I can find a resolution to the problem. Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you if you can assist me in resolving the problem.
I recently upgraded from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium using the Windows 7 Upgrade Media that was sent to me for my Toshiba Satellite A500. The upgrade loaded successfully. My laptop already had the Windows Live (MSN) Messenger on it when I was using Windows Vista and the webcam worked okay then. Now with Windows 7, when I try to do a voice/video chat using the Windows Live (MSN) Messenger version 2009 (Build 14.0.8089.726), my built-in laptop webcam does not work. When I initiate a voice/video chat, all I get is a big red X next to the webcam icon in the little view area window when it attempts to run. I can receive voice/video from people using MSN Messenger but my laptop can't send out any video. My laptop sends out voice but no video. I un-installed the Messenger, rebooted and re-installed it but it still won't do video output.
Interestingly, when I tried doing a voice/video chat with Gmail, my webcam worked. I haven't tried Yahoo yet. My webcam worked fine before upgrading to Windows 7. I suppose I could just forget about MSN Messenger and use Gmail but not all my contacts use Gmail. I'd like to be able to continue using MSN Messenger if possible.
So I'm posting here to see if there is any resolution or suggestions I can have to get my webcam working with Windows Live (MSN) Messenger. Not the end of the world if I can't make it work again.
    Have a nice day. Regards,
    Doug

I installed the new drivers from nvida web, (Version187.98 to197.16), but the problem doesn't go.

What a load of rubbish changing a theme just does that changes your theme I did this the day I brought mine still the drivers crash and re-start. huh.

  • Satellite A500 - NVIDIA driver stopped responding and has recovered

    Hello.
I have a TOSHIBA Satellite A500-1GP. I bought this laptop 1 mounth ago, and from 2 weeks before I start to have problem with it. The screen it goes black, like 2-3 seconds, after is appear this message " Nvidia driver stopped responding and has recovered" Is really start to stressing me. I install the laptop with all his original driver, and his original Windows 7. I didn't make any reinstall, or something else.
The updates ar UP TO DATE, and I have no ideea what he should want from my life. Like this are all the new models ? Start to make problems from the begining ? I'm waiting some answers..
    Thanks..

    My config:
    - Toshiba Satellite A500-1GR
    - Process: Intel Core i5
    - RAM: 4096 Mo DDR3
    - Graphic card: nVidia GeForce GT 330M
I had the same problem the graphic driver installed was the 258.96 Version. I kept it up-to-date using nVidia official web site... Afterwards, I believe I was wrong to do so.
    I did as you suggested.
    - I went to the [Toshiba Support Center|http://fr.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/generic/SUPPORT_PORTAL/]
    - I downloaded and installed the 20/08/10 BIOS Update
    - I downloaded and installed the 08/06/10 Display Driver
After that, I checked the version of the GeForce GT 330M driver, it's now 188.75.
I have no problem since I did this in the beginning of this afternoon. What a relief !
    Thank for your Support!
If I encounter the issue again, I will notify it in this thread, but I hope this issue is solved and that I won't need to!

  • Satellite A500-19x - Suddenly blue screen appears in Windows 7

    I have satellite a500-19x,
There are one problem every time and every days when i working.
Suddenly the windows stopped for several moments then blue screen and restart windows .

    hi,
if you want to update your Bios, go to the Toshiba driver page and choose the appropriate Bios version for you model. Download it and run. Don't forget to close all the running programs, disable Antivirus, Firewall before running it. Then, you will be asked to restart the computer. Pray that Bios process would occur properly otherwise you will have blank screen on startup. In this case, you will have to contact TASP (Toshiba authorized service provider).
To be honestly, I don't recommend you to flash the Bios, in your case it doesn't help your in audio crackling and BSOD. I updated my BIos but it didn't fix the problem. I think, it's graphic driver issue. You can go to the nvidia.com and download a new graphic card driver released recently. Install it and check. I also had audio crackling and the system freezing that gone after updating that driver. Note, that driver isn't pretested by Toshiba (not modified for overheating protection, anyway the users say this in the forum) but install it at my own risk and still have no problems.

  • Satellite A500 - Can I install Windows 7 64bit?

I first bought a Satellite A500 with 4Gb RAM just over 3 months ago with Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium installed. At first I had the initial dramas with finding 64 bit drivers etc then it ran OK for a while. After about 2 & a half months I started getting BSODs with error message related to an nvidia .sys file. After a few weeks of this, updating latest drivers etc, and a number of unsuccessful attempts to diagnose the problem, it was occuring every time I used the laptop and to top it off the touchpad finally died as well. The company I purchased from gave me a replacement laptop.
The new system is also a Satellite A500 and although it has a different model number and faster CPU it is otherwise virtually identical to the the one I had previously with 4Gb RAM and the same nvidia graphics card. However for some reason Windows 7 32 bit has been pre-installed. I'm not sure why the company didn't install 64 bit. A call to the tech dept with the question resulted in the answer "better for you", meaning 32 bit is better for me.
My laptop is 64 bit capable. I know that when running the 32 bit version it only utilizes up to 3.2Gb of the installed RAM (my system says that 2.99Gb is useable - assume rest is allocated to graphics?) but I've read a post where the poster said that he/she found running 32 bit Win 7 was actually faster than the 64 bit version, even tho it wasn't utilizing all the RAM.
*Can someone tell me if I am better off running the 32 bit version of Windows 7 rather than the 64 bit version?*
*If I am better off with 64 bit, can I upgrade to 64 bit or do I have to do a complete reinstall?* No installation disks were supplied. Presume setup files are on hidden partition.
Although I haven't had any BSODs with this new laptop, I have had a couple of occurences where the system has frozen temporarily with the messge "Your display driver has stopped working" followed by a recovery. Is this a Toshiba, nvidia or Windows 7 thing? I've read quite a few other posts from people with similar laptops to mine who've had the same Toshiba/nvidia errors but no resolutions. *If there is going to be a problem with this graphics card, am I better off with 32 bit or 64 bit Windows 7?*
Any advice would be muchly appreciated.

    Hi chrissy_h,
I have to say that there is no performance difference between 32bit and 64bit. The only important point is that 4GB RAM or more can only be used on 64bit system. As you wrote, 32bit OS can only handle up to 3.2GB but not more.
I think 32bit OS has a better compatibility to older applications so its preinstalled. Furthermore for the most applications 3.2GB RAM is enough and normally you dont need more.
Theoretically you can install Windows 7 64bit but dont forget that there is no upgrade option. You have to make a new and clean installation of the whole system.
Furthermore you need a Windows 7 64bit disk from Microsoft with license key. This can be purchased from every computer shop I think.
Last but not least check the Toshiba website. There you can find all available downloads for your notebook. :)

  • Satellite A500-1GH What is a empty PCI slot with JGPS sign

Almost a year ago I bought a Toshiba Satellite A500-1GH.
I cannot say that I am not satisfied with the computer or the company.
The problems that I had was the Display problem (stop working for seconds) which was software problem (updated nVidia 8.16.11.8875) and with the HDD which stop working but company changed with a new one.
Now I wanted to upgrade the second memory module from 2GB to 4GB so I can have 2x4GB, but when I opened the memory compartment, I saw next to them an empty PCI slot with the sign JGPS.
Does anybody know what that is?
And if yes what is the part number?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi mate
As far as I know JGPS is an GPS connector.
Possibly this connector would be shared by 3G miniPCI card.
As far as I know this Satellite A500-1GH has not been equipped with an 3G module and therefore the miniPCI slot is empty.
    > And if yes what is the part number?
I don't know the part number but all parts can be ordered from local Toshiba ASP

  • Why does the fan of my Satellite A500-19W acts weird?

I bought this computer one week ago. I have Windows 7 64 bit. When i surf the net or watch a movie or play music the fan starts for 2 minutes, than stops for 2 minutes than starts again. It's a cycle that never ends and the sound of it annoys me, making me think something is wrong. The computer is not hot other than the vent area. It can't be filled with dust since it's brand new. Is this normal? Should I be worried?

    Hi,
My satellite A500 also acts like this, even if I surf the Internet, watching movie and CPU shows only 5%. I don't play games at all. It's not because of dust because I clean it regularly, installed all drivers, bios updated. Mostly, I run it in Power Saver mode but still makes noise.
The only way to make it less noisy to run the fan at constant speed like 54%, I just load the CPU with some applications that keeps fan running almost everytime and no annoying noise noticable

  • Satellite A500 - Battery light flashes when connected to mains power

    Win 7 Satellite A500 PSAM3A-03P00E.
The battery light flashes when connected to mains power (intermittent fault), when I unplug mains and re-connect flashing stops and battery (high capacity) continues to charge.
Also when battery light flashes the key board back lighting stays on when it should blank out and if the back lighting is off and the battery light starts flashing the key board back lighting doesn't turn on, all other functions seem to work fine.
The battery charges and holds charge as it should (when light flashes battery doesn't charge).

    Hi
Did you notice this issue from first day of purchase?
Theoretically it could be possible that your battery starts to malfunction
At the other hand an electronic issue might be possible too
    However, try this:
Remove ac adaptor and battery. Then press and hold power buttons 30 sec long.
Then insert the battery and connect AC adaptor again does it helps?
By the way: is BIOS up to date? If not, perform an update.

  • Satellite A500-14I - ATI CCC entry is missing

    Hi,
    I got a Toshiba Satellite A500-14l with a radeon mobility HD4650.
I replace Vista by Windows 7 in september 2009 (thank's to msdnaa), installed the latest driver I found. Few month pass, I decided to update my graphic driver. As you can see, there is no updated driver for Windows 764bit for my laptop model psam3e.
http://fr.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=FR give me ati driver 8.563.1.5 or 8.634.1
I wanted to try catalyst 10.7 (8.753) to use ati acceleration with vlc 1.1.1, so I cheat, I pretend my laptop was a L670-psk3ee to get a 8.712.2.1 version of catalyst.
That works great, and this is the only way i found to get an "almost" up-to-date driver. Then I installed the Hydravision from game.amd.com website (because it's not included in toshiba driver).
Now, the CCC entry in the right click is missing, and the hydravision tab is missing in CCC too. I never see this problem before, so if anyone have a idea...
    Thank's in advance.
    PS:
    * Using Windows 7 64bit, up-to-date, except ati driver due to toshiba policy.
    * ccc mean Catalyst control center. the shortcut in "all programs" runs fine.
    * Hydravision is a usefull tools to manage multi desk and display. As there is no entry in the CCC i can't configure it, but the multi-desk exe works fine too.
Everything runs fine on my computer (not the laptop), so I think the problem came from Toshiba driver (as AMD can't provide the generic one due to specific functionnality added by toshiba, like temperature monitoring & cie). So I'm interesting in the possibility to add CCC in the right-click menu, and add the Hydravision tab to CCC.
ps 2: I already desinstall - clean the registry - reinstall Ati driver & hydravision, it doesn't work.

Because it's solve bug and add feature ? Try to tell ati/nvidia & microsoft to stop updating theirs programs because it's useless, i'm sure they 'll have a good laught.
    By the way :
    10.7a : add AA in starcraft2.
10.7 : add gpu accelerationfor VLC
10.6: GPU acceleration of H.264 video content using Adobe Flash Player 10.1, Video De-blocking support, Mosquito noise reduction, Official support for OpenGL 4.0 and OpenGL 3.3
10.5 : Support for 120 Hz displays on the ATI Radeon HD 4000 Series and ATI Radeon HD 3000 Series
    10.4 : H.264 Level 5.1 support,
10.3: ATI Catalyst support for 3D Stereoscopic glasses (one day maybe, it'll be checked)
    Without forgetting all improvement...
So yes, it's not always necessary, but if you can update it times to times (ie when you reinstall windows), it's not a so bad idea...
The "official" driver for my laptop is a catalyst 9.11 like.
But the main matter is still the missing entries. I'll try to bypass toshiba driver, too bad for the warranty : i prefer to use a little more the GPU, and little les the CPU.

  • Satellite A500 Issues (graphics Card freezes when Gaming)

Hi Everyone hoping you can help!!
I recently purchased my Satellite A500 Laptop and I have 2 extremley bad issues!!!
Firstly apparently my model number doesnt exist it is PSAM3A-04100E which is proving to be a right royal pain in the preverbial when it comes to upgrading to windows 7!
    Secondly is my major issue,
I do a lot of gaming (sims 3, Callof Duty that sort of thing...) and whenever I am playing I think wow this is great excellent fps great graphics and then FREEZE!!! my computer completley locks up and shuts down, no warning signs of lagging slowing down or anything and it does it constantly!!!
I was wondering if anyone else is suffering from this problem or whether I look should look for a driver update I have searched around but cant seem to find it anywhere.
I dont really want to take it back to the shop because then I wont have a compuer for weeks!
Any help would be massively appreciated,
    Many thanks
    Tasman

    >PSAM3A-04100E
Where you bought your notebook? What is the country of purchase?
    New Zealand maybe?
Please visit http://www.toshiba.com.au/ > New Zealand and you should find your notebook model there but as I can see Win7 drivers are not available at the moment.
Next week I will get my Satellite A500 and I will test it with Call of Duty 4 and let you know how it works.
Anyway before you start the game stop all useless running processes and set power plan to full power. Be also sure your notebook can take a breath and cooling fans are not blocked somehow. Put also back side of your notebook on two CD boxes to have higher distance between notebook and the desk.
I hope everything will works well.

  • Satellite A500-1GL - Can't start Windows

    Hi,
I was in the process of rebuilding my Laptop with a fresh install of Windows 7 64bit and after everything was loaded it rebooted and sat at the pre-load screen which said "Boot from BBS-HARDDISK" It now wont go any further than this. Also, when I look at the BIOS settings I have lost the ability to boot from USB which is how I loaded W7.
The problem is everything I try either bluescreens my laptop OR it just sits at BBS-HARDDISK.
I have even tried a copy of XP which I had but nothing seems to work. (This is what Blue screens the laptop)
Is anyone able to help me out with this and would it be worth purchasing the reinstalation disk from Toshiba as I do not have the original that I made.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Cheers
    Tracy

Another tip to see if it is a hardware problem: Try to run a Knoppix Live Linux CD, do the memtest, if there are no problems at all, you should save your data (if you didn't do that before) and really run the recovery disk. If Knoppix doesn't work, you should either let your satellite repair or you should buy a new one.
