Satellite A500: Low screen resolution using Win 7

Hi,
I've looked around the forum and haven't found any real solutions to my problem so...
I recently bought a Satellite A500 and did a fresh install of Windows 7 Professional on it.
Apparently I was supposed to just upgrade it in order to keep the drivers but being the noob I am, I didn't.
So now my resolution is stuck at 1024x768 or 800x600, neither of which are native.
I've downloaded the win7 64-bit drivers from the Toshiba website, but apparently I already have the latest ATI driver installed.
However I still can't change the resolution and my monitor is recognized as generic non-PnP.
Is there any way to check if I have the display driver already?
And also any solutions to the display problem would be much obliged. It's the only thing left bothering me now about this new laptop.

Hi
I assume you are using Win 7 64bit OS since you have chosen the Win 7 64bit display driver is it right?
What A500-xxx do you have exactly?
The Toshiba European driver page provides three different display drivers for A500 series; Intel, nVidia and ATI
Seems three different graphic chips have been installed in A500 series
You should firstly check what graphic chip your notebook uses
Then go to device manager and uninstall the installed display driver.
Then visit the Toshiba European driver page, download the right display driver for the graphic chip and install it.
After that reboot the unit and check how the notebook would run.

  • Re: Satellite L30D - Low screen resolution after Windows 7 installation

I have installed Windows 7 on my Satellite L30D. Since this installation, I cannot have a better resolkuton than 1024x768.*It was much better with Windows Vista.
I have downloaded the latest ATI driver. No effect. I cannot find the Catalyst Control Center as well. What can I do?

    Hi
The Satellite L30D isnt known to me...
Do you mean Satellite L30 or Satellite L300D?
Normally you have to install the display driver if you want to use higher screen resolutions but check the specifications of your internal display first. Maybe the native screen resolution is 1024x768 and you cant use a higher one.
You can download all drivers for your notebook on the Toshiba website!!! Dont use the drivers from ATI directly, they are not designed for mobile chips.

  • Can't start MAIL or STORE because of "too low screen resolution"

I can't start either mail app or store app because of "too low screen resolution".
My netbook (eMachines eM350) has maximum 1024x600, these app require at least 1024x768

I have developed a lot of code, and while more recent machines have higher resolutions, I find it prudent not to assume everyone has an 8K panel
No one cares much what you have or have not done, this thread is not about you. If you'd actually developed any Modern apps you'd know that the minimum resolution for them is, as has been stated numerous times here already. Stating that you develop for 640x480
displays clearly indicates that you've never developed a Modern app. Additionally, it should be obvious even to you that a minimum resolution of 1024x768 does not assume that everyone has "an 8K panel".
go write some shaders you clearly have no idea whatsoever about development
i can make programs rescale to fit any screen size, just because you are too stunned to figure that out

  • Not clear images with lower screen resolutions on Tecra M5

    Hi,
we have some M5s with Intel graphics board which work fine with the usual 1024*768 screen resolution.
Now we are buying some new M5s equipped with nVidia Quadro, and they seem to have a native resolution of 1400*1050.
If I try to scale resolution to 1024*768 or even 1280*1024, images are badly out of focus. But I think icons at 1400*1050 on a 14" display are really too small, for the average of users.
    No solution?
    thanks

This is to do with the native resolution of the LCD. Unless you display at maximum resolution, any attempt to work at a lower resolution will require the graphics card to rescale, causing the resultant image to blur as the graphics card interpolates.
The only solution is to use Windows Vista because the GUI has been designed for larger native LCD resolutions, meaning the icons are designed bigger (approx. twice the size of XP)

  • Windows 8.1 Lock Screen drops network connectivity when screen locked using Win+L

    Hi!
I was sent here from Microsoft Community forum. The question is:
Since Windows NT 4.0 I'm using Lock Screen to prevent people from accessing my computer when I'm leaving my room. First I was using CTRL+ALT+DEL / Lock Screen, then switched to Win+L keyboard shortcut when it was first introduced.
Everything was fine until I switched to Windows 8.1 computer (Sony Vaio Duo 13 with Broadcom wireless network controller). This machine is 8.1, not 8.0 upgraded to 8.1.
My problem is that when I hit Win+L combo the Lock Screen (with clock etc.) is displayed. Then, despite I have configured not to turn off display, the screen goes blank (after 30 seconds since lock) and network connectivity is cut off from desktop
apps (I suspect the system goes into Active Standby mode, because Modern UI apps like Tune-In radio keep working fine).
    100% repeatable scenarios:
    ## Scenario 1 ##
    1) Log in
    2) Open desktop app that uses network connectivity. Outlook 2013 from Office365 subscription
    3) Check that it has connected
    4) Lock screen (Win+L)
    5) Wait for 30 seconds (first incorrectly posted as few minutes) as screen goes black
    6) Unlock screen (using password)
    7) In right corner of Outlook app you will see "Unable to connect with Exchange server" and few seconds later it will reconnect sucessfuly
    ## Scenario 2 - the more annoying ##
    1) Log in to Win 8.1 computer
    2) Connect to it using SMB (in my case I wanted to transfer 30 GB of files from local hard drive C: to server) \\COMPUTER-NAME\c$ from Windows Server 2012 R2
    3) Start copying files from computer to server
    4) Lock the screen on computer
    5) As soon as screen goes black server displays message "Lost connection to the resource. Try again?"
    6) Unlock screen on the computer
    7) Click "Try again" and it will continue copying files
My power settings are set to go into stand by after 5 hours and if I not lock the screen it doesn't go to sleep before 5 hours.
When I lock the screen using Win+L it goes into (probably Active) Standby mode.
Is there any way to prevent it from going to Active Standby when locking screen? I need the screen lock for security reasons but I don't want it to drop my network connectivity on remote desktops, file transfers and other desktop activities before 5 hour
    timeout.
This issue is not related to more or less known wireless network connectivity problem that happens to many Intel Haswell computers. Mine doesn't exhibit those problems. I can easly push 100 - 200 GB of wireless data without network drops.

    Best regards,
    Sergiusz

Same issue here using Surface 3 Pro with either internal WLAN or MS USB LAN Adapter. I'm frequently used to keep open connections over SSH to some servers. On switching to lock screen explicitly by pressing Win+L or implicitly due to idle timeout all
connections to servers are lost. In addition, I don't get any notifications on incoming Skype messages (using Skype for desktop) when lock screen is active.
Neither NIC is showing "Power Management Tab" according to step 5 of instructions above.
Additionally observing USB LAN NIC seems to be kept active after activating lock screen, but traffic stops (according to its flashing light) when lock screen is switching off display. Blanking display doesn't seem to be adjustable in System Settings (Energy
    Options accessed through Win+X).
Find attached log file of powercfg -energy -duration 300 ...
Log file is in German. It basically claims unset timeouts for deactivating display while running attached to power supply though lock screen is turning off displays within 1-2 minutes.

  • Satellite A - Wrong screen resolution in games

    Hi,
I change the operation system from Windows Vista home to Windows 7 64bit , and I download the Windows driver but when I playing games it appear at 1024*768 pixel and my laptop have 1366*768 pixel.
If any body have a solution to this problem please help

    Hello
Unfortunately I think you must offer more details about your problem like exact notebook model number and all games that you play.
Important point is that the game must support the native screen resolution of your monitor, otherwise you are not able to use 1366*768 pixel. You should check this firstly!
Furthermore make sure that newest display driver from Toshiba is installed and update your DirectX version.

  • Lower screen resolution on 6280?

I'm noticing that a lot of applications and games are designed for a low resolution screen. My 6280 has high resolution, so that apps take up only the upper left hand corner of the screen. Too tiny to read, really. Is there a way lower my screen resolution? Or is it that these games have to be resolution-aware? Thanks for any advice.

    Hello.
You have no choice for this matter, I guess, and you must succumb playing your low-res games in this manner. As manta have said, there are programmers who are pretty adept at changing the resolution covered by the application depending on the screen's native resolution.
    Cheers.
The world might be a better place if you were I.

  • Low screen resolution?

    Hi,
I recently had to run diskwarrior to do some rebuilding on my machine but ever since the screen resolution seems to be lower than previously. This is particularly noticeable on photos.
I've been into preferences to check the screen is set to the highest setting, which it is, so I'm not sure why it has changed.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

Have you tried setting the resolution to the lowest setting in System Preferences, and then switch it back to the lowest resolution?
If that doesn't work, try creating a new Colorsync profile and see if the problem lies there.
If none of these solutions work, I would say that you may have to do an erase and install of Mac OS X or at least look for a corrupted file.

  • Satellite A500-17X: How to install Win XP mode for Win 7 64bit

    I bought a Toshiba Satellite A500 17X Laptop recently.
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. I have since upgraded to Professional. I am trying to download and install the XP Mode from the Microsot website.
I have quit a few bits of software mostly Astronomy which worked in XP but will not install on Windows 7.
From the Microsoft web site i selected Professional 64bit from the drop down list.
When i tried installing the file a message popped up saying: +This is not a valid Win32 file+
So i downloaded the Professional 32bit file.
When i tried to install this the same message popped up. According to the videos on the Microsoft web site this should be easy.
Anyone know what i am doing wrong.
    Thank You.
    Greyhound

I too recently bought a Toshiba A500 17X laptop. Like you I also need to run some legacy XP programs that do not run under Win 7.
So, I found out that I must upgrade from Win 7 Home Premium to Win 7 Professional. But .... before parting with 100 quid or so I thought I would investigate a little.
    At the Microsoft web site:-
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx
It explains what steps to take.
At Step 2 you can run a tool to determine if 'your PC hardware works with Windows XP Mode...' This hyperlink takes you to the Microsoft Hardware-Assisted Virtualization Tool where you can download a guide and the tool to see if the PC is up to it.
I did this and it seems the hardware is NOT up to the task, nor as far as I can determine is there a switch in the BIOS to allow this.
Don't think it matters whether Win 7 is 32-bit or 64-bit.
This is really not good enough for a laptop that cost £700. ............or am I wrong?

  • Very low screen resolution, following work done by McAffee to ensure Firefox can receive McAffee updates

2 weeks ago when I switched on my pc (Windows XP) I had very poor screen resolution, which I was unable to fix other than by resetting to an earlier day. I also was having problems with McAffee saying that it couldn't access my pc to upload files. Eventually, I asked McAfee to sort the problem, which they did by taking control of my pc. I am now getting messages today saying that updates from McAffee have been uploaded satisfactorily. However, each time I now switch on my pc I get the same very poor screen resolution which I can only fix by resetting to a previous date.
Have you any ideas as to why this should be happening and more importantly how I can fix it.

    Hello davebeac!
    Welcome to Firefox Support!
For your problem, what I'm reading from your post, the screen resolution has nothing to do with Firefox. Your resolution has to do with your computer graphics card. To fix this problem just do the following steps:
    1.
    1. Open Display in Control Panel.
    2. On the Settings tab, under Screen resolution, drag the slider, and then click Apply.
    3. When prompted to apply the settings, click OK. Your screen will turn black for a moment.
    4. Once your screen resolution changes, you have 15 seconds to confirm the change. Click Yes to confirm the change; click No or do nothing to revert to your previous setting.

  • Screen resolution on Win 7 set to 1920x1080 instead of 1920x1200 (MBP 17 early 2011)

After performing a SMC reset on my MacBook Pro 17 (early 2011), the screen resolution of my Windows 7 on the bootcamp partition was set to 1920x1080, instead of 1920x1200. On Control Panel, the option for the 1920x1200 resolution doesn't appear. How can I fix this? Reinstall BootCamp 3.2 64-bit? Thanks.

Try command-shift on boot up. If all else fails boot from your OS installer disk and run Repair Disk from Disk Utility.

  • Low screen resolution on my T400.

Maximum screen resolution on my new ThinkPad T400 with discrete graphics(windows 7 home premium) is only 1280x800, I was expecting it to to more higher.
Please advice on what to do.
ATI Mobility Radeon 3470 with 256MB
    Thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

IIRC, the choices were 1280x800 (WXGA) or 1440x900 (WXGA+ as mine is).  W/ the CTO models you had to pick one when specifying the system.

    Hi
    BSOD is always an painful issue because it can be related to different reasons;
It can be a hardware issue but it can be also an serious software problem.
So its not easy to say what cause this exactly
I had an BSOD in the past because my RAM was faulty.
I have replaced it and since than its ok.
The friend of mine has had an BSOD issue too. It was caused by graphic card driver.
    Graphic card driver update helped.
The high temperature can be a reason as well so check if the temp is not too high.
The new OS installation might be a option too but this is your own decision

  • Creating pdf contact sheets at screen resolution using aperture/photoshop

Can anyone advise me on how to create a pdf document of contact sheets- low resolution [72 screen res]that is less time consuming than the present work flow described below?
At present I export jpegs 450pxl 72dpi from aperture. create contact sheets in photoshop and then
create a pdf in photoshop. Average number of images per client is approx 800-1000,
The pdf I have created with aperture has a resolutuin of 300dpi- which is a large file to email etc. I have tried reimporting the 450pxl jpegs but aperture still creates the document at 300dpi.
    Is it possible ...
1/. to solely use aperture to create low res pdf's
2/. If not is it possible to create an action in photoshop [or use automator] to speed up the process described above?
I do have a little experience using actions in photoshop but am by no means an experienced user.

Awesome! I didnt even know aperture could do that
Now another quick question on this topic, if im using RAW files, does aperture need to convert the file to jpeg or tiff (like it does if you export version as jpeg)?
If it does, that may be a problem as it takes forever for aperture on my macbook to convert raws and save as jpegs, like a good minute or two per photo, and if i have 200odd photos....not good, people will crack it waiting and leave.
Or does it print as raw? Cause im pretty sure my printer (or any printer) can not print raw files. Will try it tonight on my printer but a heads up will be useful.
I could just shoot in hi-res jpeg, but id rather shoot raw incase they want a large poster size print etc.
    Thanks.
