Satellite A500 overheating after upgrading to windows 64bit

Hey,
I just upgraded to 64bit and my GPU temperature has been really high, around 60 degrees Celsius. It goes up to 107 when I run a game. When I had 32bit running I never had this problem, I could play any game without the laptop overheating. I thought at first it was a problem with drivers, or that im missing somthing.
I have updated bios, every single other driver that I could find for my laptop and repeatable reinstalled video card drivers with no change.
Now I have been trying to work out how to change the fan settings, I have noticed the fan starts running fast enough to hear at 55ish degrees and I want to decrease that setting aswells increase the fan speed.
I have tried Speedfan, and like 5 other programs where none of them worked.
I'm also afraid if I just reinstall 32bit that I will have the same problem since there might be some kind of driver or utility I have lost in the format.
Is there a way I can fix this problem? Is there a Toshiba utility or something I might have missed?
Is the A500 not compatible with 64bit? Can the fan settings be changed?
Thanks in advance

Have you installed the Toshiba Value Added Package? It is an important package because it provides core hardware interfaces.
If it's still overheating, there may be dust buildup in the heatsink. You can remove the dust by using a Can of Compressed Air.
If it's still overheating after removing the dust, updating the BIOS, and testing it with the factory Windows installation, then it's probably a hardware problem. An authorized service provider can investigate the problem. There's an ASP list on the Toshiba website.

    I have Toshiba Sattelite P745-s4217 intel corei5 2nd Gen
I upgraded from windows 7 to 8.1, since then I have had lots and lots of problems, in this topic I am disccusing one of them, it overheats anytime I watch netflix or extract a zip file and it just turns off, it is really anoyying and it happens fequently,
the only solution I found so far is , changing the CPU speed in the BIO to ALWAYS LOW, but if I do that, I can not watch netflix movies correctly, the sound and video would be out of sync .
so the problem is it overheats and turns off whenver it uses the cpu, I tried to clean the Fans, but it was not really dirty, and I dont have this problem in Ubuntu.

There's no need to be rude, tonyinamerica. I was definitely speaking English. Appendix A is a section in the document I linked. That document explains the upgrade process. Did you read it?

  • Satellite L300D BSOD after upgrading to Windows 7

I've had this laptop (Satellite L300D) for a bit more than a year with windows vista (32-bit) running and there have been no problems. However, i just recently upgraded to Windows 7 (x64) and have gotten problems since the first reboot.
On the first reboot after windows 7 installation, the computer simply turned off after the "Starting Windows" screen. Powering it up again took me to system repair where it performed a system restore and i was able to boot successfully again. I thought the problem had something to do with the automatic updates so i disabled them and tried to reboot to see if the problem was fixed. This time, after the "Starting Windows" screen i got a Fatal System Error BSOD. After multiple reboot attempts and multiple system repair attempts (which usually said it failed) it successfully booted up again.
This problem has been going for about 3 weeks now and it's quite irritating. The results from the system repair claims that a "Boot Critical File is Corrupt" but it does boot up eventually after multiple attempts to boot. It also has a habit of turning itself off randomly while running (happens about once or twice a day). So as of now, everytime i try to start my comp it either turns off after the startup screen or gives the BSOD and restarts and the only way to get it working seems to be to keep attempting to boot and hope for a successful boot up (this eventually happens after a few failed attempts).
I did a bit of research on this and came to [this|http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?modelFilter=L300D-ST3501&rpn=PSLC8U&category=&selCategory=3&moid=222 1251&os=&ct=DL&selFamily=1073768663] page. I think that's exactly what my problem is (need to update BIOS) but as i understand the windows install for that is only for xp/2000/vista and i'm unable to use the second option of booting from disc as i get the BSOD before it gets to that point. Should i try the windows install option even though i'm running windows 7 or is there some other way to update the BIOS? Or am i completely off and the problem is with something else?
I wasn't sure what information i should add to this post so if any further information is required please let me know.
    Thanks in advance
Edit: Oops, just realised the page i linked doesn't link to exactly what i had opened. I'm talking about the "Critical BIOS updates for 64-bit Windows 7" under "Support Bulletin"

    Hi
First of all it would be interesting to know which BSOD code you get exactly. Can you post this useful information? Normally on the Microsoft Knowledge Base you can find additional informations about the most BSOD codes and so you can start to fix this issue.
BSOD are often related to drivers or RAM/HDD. Latter you can check with special diagnostic tools, Memtest86 for RAM and Drive Fitness Test for HDD. Both tools are freeware and you can find it by using Google. You can download an iso image of them to create a bootable media where you can start the test.
Regarding your BIOS update: I dont know which L300D you have exactly but according the Toshiba website it shows a BIOS update also for Windows 7 64bit. You can try to install it.

  • Satellite A500 - Can't upgrade to Windows 7

I recently got my copy of Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. when I actually bought my laptop it was shipped with Windows Vista home premium 64 bit, all I wanted is to upgrade to Windows 7 which I bought.
So I followed the instructions with the Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant Tool but I get this annoying unfix-able message
This model does not support windows 7.. and it quits when I click OK.. So I'm unable to upgrade because I'm afraid of damaging anything. Slthough its an A500-PSAM3E-014011G3. It can totally support Windows 7 so I don't even have a clue where to start to fix that. The BIOS version is even 1.21
I can't find a solution for this HELP PLEASE

Hello Two Lags yes this is the only error i get .. i am using a windows 7 64 bit Ultimate version, the Toshiba upgrade assistant shows this message after the setting boot priority step : This model does not support windows 7 ..i went over all the steps as toshiba said: I inserted the Win7 DVD and i closed setup , launched the Toshiba Upgrade assistant and after the above mentioned step it stops ... i dont get even to the part where i see the drivers to be updated it closes, if it can help u to solve this i asked someone and they said something about Microsoft HCL - i dont know wat this is - and related to the graphics card , here are my specifications (totally supported by windows 7):

I can't reinstall Linksys Easy Link Advisor for WRT310N Wireless Router after upgrading to Windows 7 (64bit).  When I went to Linksys site for solution for new drivers, it asked me for Hardware Version Number.  This model doesn't show one.  Any thoughts?

Sabertooth is right. If you are able to go online from your Router then you don't need to install LELA software on your Computer.

  • WPA security Types are missing after upgrading to Windows 8.1

After upgrading from Windows 8 Pro 64bit to Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit on my Sony Vaio Duoe 13, I could not find WPA security type while configuring Wireless network manually. (only WPA2 and 802.1X are available).
I have done a lot of troubleshootings like
    1-Reinstall Wirless original driver
2-Updating the wireless driver to the latest
3-Uninstall and reinstall windows 8 then upgrading again to windows 8.1
    But the same.
Is there any way to add WPA to the security type?

    Yes! It works!
To recap : My laptop has an Atheros AR9002WB-1NG adapter, windows 8.1. Even when it had windows 8, it was unable to connect, but unlike now, I didn't look closely enough about the type of network. Originally I thought it was
this problem. But they confirmed that others with windows 8 had no issues with this. Then , when I tried configuring the network manually, I could not find the WPA-enterprise option at all, only the
    WPA2-enterprise.
So here I was, and Greg Seth's answer gave me an idea.
In the following instructions, some commands are obvious, so I won't explain unless necessary. So here's what you do :
    0) Go to command line, preferably Administrator (not tried without).
    1) C:\Windows\System32> cd \Users\<User>\Documents
    2) C:\Users\<User>\Documents> netsh
    3) netsh> wlan
    4) netsh wlan> show profiles
    5) delete profile name=<yournetwork>
Enclose the name of network within quotes, this is to ensure that you can cleanly set up the right profile. Don't close the netsh, we'll need it some more. If you do, just reach there the same way as before.
    6) Right click the connection icon in lower right corner > open Network and Sharing Center > Set up a new connection or network > Manually connect to a wireless network
    7) Try to create a profile, and try to get as many details to correspond with your requirement. The rest we'll edit in command line, so let's make it as easy as possible.
    8) Do the same at the next screen. Edit Network settings > change all the parameters that you can, to match the requirement. My university tech support has a detailed document listing the options to choose, usually for windows 7, or even windows 8. get
as many of them as possible.
    9) Finish. Move back to your netsh terminal
    10) netsh wlan> show profile <profilename>
without quotes this time. This should show your previous attempt at creating a profile in the GUI dialog boxes. In my case, it had WPA2 and AES. It has to become WPA and TKIP. I also set my authMode to userOnly, since I hadn't done it right in the dialog box
    before.
    11) netsh wlan> set profileparameter
displays a humongous list of parameters with detailed options, just carefully examine the syntax. It's all here.
    12) netsh wlan> set profileparameter name=<profilename> authentication=wpa encryption=tkip authMode=userOnly
    13) netsh wlan> set profileparameter
    Don't exit this yet.
    14) Now click the connection icon, and connect to the network. It will ask you the username and password in a different style, that was my clue something was different this time.
    15) It should connect. In my case atleast, it did. Verify by browsing.
    16) netsh wlan> export profile name=<profile name>
In order that you're not put through this ordeal again, export the profile safely to a file. Again, the profile name in quotes.
    17) Wonder why microsoft makes things difficult for us!

after upgrading to Windows 8.1 from 8 nothing works correctly. Firefox 1st received 'unable to load XPcom' After resetting and uninstalling several times Firefox now loads to either a support screen or blank screen. It accepts address input but doesn't execute to target. So far I have been unable to roll back upgrade.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

    Hello,
I am having hp pavilion dv6-6165tx notebook, where keyboard having a wireless button that turns ON and OFF all wireless devices, After upgrading to windows 8.1, HP Connection Manager is not getting installed, as well as Key is not working, key color turns red and white but no action is performed.
    Kindly suggest me some solution.
Note: HP Doesn't provide drivers for windows 8/8.1 ONLY WINDOWS 7 for hp pavilion dv6-6165tx.
    Thanks.

    Hi @Jayesh_Bhadja ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv6-6165tx Notebook and the Wireless keyboard not working correctly. Here is a link to troubleshoot the keyboard.
The HP Connection Manager is something that is for Windows 7 not Windows 8.1. I would uninstall this from your Notebook.  Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updating. It has a troubleshooting tool in this.
Make sure all your updates have been completed. I would try restarting my Notebook a few times.
If that does not help I would uninstall the keyboard from the Device manager.
    Thanks.

You're very welcome. See if the recovery manager still works so you can roll back to W8. Please read this guide for how to use it. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03489643 If it doesn't then you will have to order a set of recovery disks from HP, or you can install this plain W8 OEM software this guy has posted on a link. Lots of folks have used it successfully, which is why I posted it. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B0W9PBigPy94aVJWSndyTFNFMzg/edit?pli=1 Then use this tool to make the iso file bootable to a DVD or 4+ GB USB flash drive. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/windows-usb-dvd-download-tool Yes, that really stinks why you and I could not upgrade without an issue. I disabled about 5 or 6 devices in the device manager and the code 12 would not go away. I have no clue why the PC works fine on W8 but not on W8.1. My notebook is a few years older than yours and it worked fine on W8.1 but not on W10. Go figure...
