Satellite A505 freezes during install of updates

This started about a month ago.  Each time the laptop restarts to install updates to the system, it freezes.  I have left it for hours and it will still be on the same numbered update.  I know it says not to cut power or turn off, but after it sat for 6 hours (while I napped) on the same number, I did.  Now anytime it goes to updates it stalls for hours.  Just happened again last night - I went to sleep on it installing 1 of 2 updates, it was still trying to install 1 of 2 updates at 6 the next morning.  The system runs super slow now, when I'm trying to work or use the internet.  Anyone have suggestions for correcting this problem?  Thanks

Did you get anywhere with this? You might try only selecting one update at a time to install to determine if there's a problem with a specific update.

  • Freeze during install of update 10.5.1

My macbook will freeze upon the restart of trying to install update 10.5.1
I download the update using system software updater and when it asks for restart... I do it. The machine then starts up and begins the install.
The problem is it will freeze at 0-1% of configuring the install. I've installed all other updates. This is the only one to do this.
I can easily re-install the mac with a fresh leapard however I was hoping for a solution so I don't have to reinstall bootcamp and all other apps for both mac and windows.
btw... my leapard was an update from tiger. I do run bootcamp with winxp.
    thanks for any help.

Have you tried just manually downloading the update to see if that works?

  • ThinkVantage System Update 5.02 problem -- System Update hangs or freezes when installing KB updates

Often after installing a KB update, System Update will restart the computer and then resume processing to install the next downloaded KB update.  However, after restarting, it always freezes or hangs part way through the next KB install.  After waiting 5 or 10 minutes, I click on "cancel."   System Update acknowledges cancellation but nothing happens, and when I eventually give up and select "End task" in Windows Task Manager, I am informed that "This program is not responding."
Clearly this is a bug, perhaps arising from an license consent dialog box that fails to pop-up.  I have resorted to downloading and installing these KB updates one-by-one after a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit on my T400 model 2764CTO.    Service Pack 1 is installed and Microsoft.NET Framework 3.51, which satisfies Lenovo's requirements.  I am running BIOS 3.11 and plan to update it, but would like to solve this problem first, as I would hate to experience a freeze during a BIOS update!
Anyone else having this problem, or any solutions?

DID you get the machine from someonelse, outside of  Lenovo? DID you upgrade the original o/s?
    what o/s?
    ==
KB are offered by microsoft, not Lenovo/su.  Under a rare condition, SU will offer as KB.  A known instance, where microsoft offers HOTFIX, but not for monthly update distribution.  Lenovo has their version of this KB. Probably this HOTFIX fixes a problem in Lenovo land driver that needs the hotfix.
I am amazed at how many KB fixes show up for your machine!!!

Clearly this is a bug, perhaps arising from an license consent dialog box that fails to pop-up. << assumption, please docment.<<<
Always update your BIOS 1st, the Net frame (v4?). Then try the update land.

As I would hate to experience a freeze during a BIOS update
Dont BIOS update during a rain storm. or power fauilure.  Always use a ISO (cd) version of this.  Download/burn this version  in case.  Then use the other version, Update from windows. (you now have a backup).
Please research your hardware install guide, as too how to RESET BIOS eeprom.  Get tweezers, change the jump prom clip. BIOS flash from 0. Jump prom clip back.   Is this scary, yesl jumper is on mother board.
    so
    1 3 5
    2 4 6
Plastic jumper is 34 56. Change to 1234, and you reload a bios from blank. You can enter UUID, serial number and fun stuff.
Do not loose the plastic jumper. Turn the a/c off. Have reading glasses.  But this is the solution to what if BIOS update freezes.  Also have a ISO backup of the previous  release  of BIOS on CD.

  • Applying all update\patches during 'install software update' step

    Hi,
I have created software update group (around 10 updates\patches) and deploy it to 'unknown computers' collection. Ts 'Install software update' step scans through and only installs 2 updates out of 10. I have kept deploy property as 'required' while publishing
on 'unknown computers' and 'install software update' has 'All Software update' selected (other option is mandatory update'). I want to have all the 10 required update to be installed . any idea what should be the settings on 'deploy' prperty for software group

    Hi,
Yes , they need a reboot and reboot is happening automatically. I believe, once reboot is done, other patches should take over with installation. I don't see any information for another updates that are part of same software group. For these 2 succefully
installed updates log has below that indicates they reboot and finish.
    WUHandler has log:

  • WHAT CAUSES FOR AN APPLICATION TO FREEZE DURING INSTALL?

What causes for an application to freeze during install?  and how do I fix it

helloWorld pretty much said it all.
When I'm looking for problems like that nothing beats a good trace file. Also don't dismiss the idea of programmer stupidity (of the one that developed the app), I've ran across code where exceptions where caught and nothing done about it, just let thing run merrily along again. The cause is usually farther back in the trace than the point it hangs or appears to start having problems.

  • Keyboard Software Update Freezing During Install

    Hi,
I'm, rather belatedly, trying to install KeyboardSoftwareUpdate 1.2 on my PPC G5 running 10.4.11. The keyboard is wired and the problem, which I've read is curable with this update, is that none of the function keys like for volume or brightnesss, etc. work. Every time I try to install this update, the installation freezes after Select Drive and before letting me move on to choosing Installation Type. At this point, I then have to force quit the application. The drive I've been choosing (and which is also the only option for installation) has plenty of space on it. I've had no other issues with any other installations that I can recall. Suggestions? Thanks

    Hello,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
    Try the install again.
I think Spark cured this FN key thing for another person and the same problem...

  • Satellite 4080 freezes during use. Event id 5 - illegal i/o port address

I have a Satellite 4080 running windows xp sp2 which it does reasonably well. It is only used for basic word processing and Office applications. The laptop freezes during use and has to be switched off & back on again. In the event viewer there is an event id number 5 ACPI BIOS is attempting to write to an illegal IO port address. Is this connected to the problem with the laptop freezing? Microsoft as helpful as ever suggest contacting the BIOS vendor about possibly updating the BIOS. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hello Robert
The BIOS update you can find on http://www.toshiba-tro.de/subpage/bios.html but check please the MORE INFO on the right side.
I don't know if this will help to solve the problem but you can try. Please be careful with BIOS update and read the instructions at first.

  • FIX FOR:computer freezes during install of Leopard on a G4 MDD w/ ATI x800!

I had problems with freezing during installation of Tiger & Leopard on my G4 MDD. It took some trouble shooting, but when I installed Tiger I found out that the freeze was from the video card I had installed, an ATI x800 xt 256mb AGP video card. I do not know why this card freezes the installation process, but I found a way to get the installation to complete without freezing. I took an old ATI PCI video card, installed it in an empty PCI slot, connected monitor to PCI card, and then installed Tiger with no problems. After install I hooked the monitor back up to the AGP ATI card and it worked great. So when my G4 froze with the Leopard installation I did the same thing, switched to an old PCI video card and Leopard installed with no problems whatsoever, then I switched back to AGP card after install. I hope this helps someone.

  • Sparc 5 freezes during install

As the subject says I have a sparc 5 that freezes
during an interactive install of Solaris 8 4/01.
It is inconsistent, and the only way to unhang the machine
is power off (does not respond to stop-a).
Is there a way to tell what is going on?
    Thanks,
    A. J.

    Thanks...
Problem solved... it was a SIMM that wasn't seated properly.
The strange thing is, that I did test the memory using POST and also doing test-memory at the PROM level and those did not indicate any problem (on a hunch I reseated the memory...).

  • Satellite A660 freezes during playing games and recovery

I have problem with my Toshiba Satellite A660. Sometimes when I play games it freezes and I can't even move the pointer I all freeze then I have to shut it down with force.
One time it freezes during a recovery and that what make me worried about it would be a high (amount of money) problem.
I tried to take it to a what it call itself a Toshiba-service company and they told me that the problem is solved but it didn't.
So I hope any would help me Im in a bad situation here.

    Hello
I can also understand you dude and it must be a hardware malfunction if recovery installation from Toshiba recovery disk doesnt work. I mean usually this shouldnt be a problem because this image is pretestd by Toshiba and shouldnt make any problems.
In your situation I would talk with the service company again. You can ask what they did exactly and if they can check the unit again because you problems with .
Just explain the situation a little bit.
As Mike30 wrote, if you play games use high performance power plan and put the notebook on a clean desk to ensure the notebook is getting enough air and the fan will not be blocked.

  • Computer freezes after installing new updates

I installed new updates and went to restart the computer, the apple logo came on and the progress bar went a third across then locked up with the curser spinning. Each time I try to restart the same thing happens. I can only restart in safe mode, can anyone help me with this problem.

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • 10.4.7 update freezes during install

I'm trying to update a G4 iMac. It had previously crashed hard during the install, so I had to archive and reinstall the OS from the original disks. I ran the disk verify and repair. Now, it downloads the combo update, but it never gets past "Preparing for Installation." No other programs are running during the install. Is there more that I can and should do?
    Thanks for any help.

Probably a bad download. Dump it and download another. If that doesn't work, then you should run the Apple Hardware Test program to rule out any hardware problems.

  • Freezing during install ph

Heya guys. I've got an issue with my creative soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS, specifically the install program. The first part makes it to 97%, then Windows picks it up. The installation then literally freezes, and I am forced to control alt delete out. This also occurs when trying to CZapxx the drivers in. OS is Windows 98 SE (Not that it should matter, it was running fine prior to my reformat)

Now I have a product I can no longer use that used to work great before a re-format and I've tried everything recommended in the database. Jeez, talk about frustration...
Ya the mods will try to help as much as they can. Hmm.... have you try what I suggested that is during the installation, if it hangs then ctrl-alt-del and then close the application that's showing not responding? Also, you can try updating your installshield wizard which I found to be helpful too.

  • ITunes 7.0.1.8 freezes during install

I downloaded the new iTunes 7 and went to install the same way i have with the last few updates. I uninstalled old iTunes and QuickTime and turned off my virus scans and firewall. I ran iTunesSetup that i downloaded from the Apple site using Mozilla Firefox. Everytime the installation freezes at the point Status: Registering modules with like 2 bubbles left. I tried restarting my computer and the same thing happened again. Tips to fix this would be appreciated. QuickTime appears to have been installling fine. Oh and only the installation froze i could still run other processes. In fact right now as I am typing this the updater is frozen in the background.

Everytime the installation freezes at the point Status: Registering modules
by any chance, do you have SpyCatcher antispyware software installed on your PC?
if so, try uninstalling SpyCatcher prior to the itunes install. does the itunes install get past the registering modules point then?
if you get the itunes install to go through, you can reinstall SpyCatcher.
