Satellite A60-106: Unable to open Microsoft Office 2003

I have Satellite A60-106 laptop with windows XP home edition pre-installed. After recent failure of windows i have used product recovery DVD of toshiba. Following that I was successful in downloading other software like microsoft works, one note, Norton antivirus from CD. But Microsoft student and teacher edition 2003 CD is not opening in my CD/DVD drive.
It makes normal CD accessing noice after inserting, but not accessible. Pressing 'run' shows error message as D:\ not accessible, I/O device error.
The same CD (microsoft 2003) opens with other computers.
So where is the fault and how to rectify?
I have tried all sorts of advice through web.
Can some one please help me?

Hi
For me it looks like a hardware fault. The error says that the drive is not able to read from the Microsoft CD.
There must be something wrong with the drive lens and therefore the lens cannot read the CD and the drive is not accessible!
Possibly after lens cleaning you could use this CD.

  • Unable to open microsoft office

I am unable to open Microsoft office at all. I restored my system yesterday and it worked. shut down and logged on today the same issue. I show that an update was done last night so I am checking here first b/f I call microsoft.

How is this related to Firefox, or any Mozilla product?
It sounds like what you need to do is repair your Microsoft Office installation, then check Windows Update for any updates again.

Orginally I downloaded OFFICE from the Apple Store App, so unable to reinstall as it suggest.

Which version of Office, 2004, 2008 or 2011
    and
MS Office is not available from the App Store, so where did you get it?

Lion no longer supports PowerPC apps. If this is Microsoft Office 2008 (Entourage 2008) then you should disable the syncing services.  (I don't have Office 2008 installed anymore so I don't know exactly what it's called anymore.)  If you have Microsoft Office 2004 or earlier, then it can't be run on Lion at all since Lion removed Rosetta, which is what allowed a PPC app to run on an Intel based Mac.
Also, I believe Microsoft removed sync services from the current Outlook 2011 (which replaces Entourage) so even upgrading to a newer version of Microsoft Office will not get you back that calendar sync feature.  Supposedly Microsoft is working on a new syncing system, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

  • Making iWork the default apps for opening Microsoft Office documents

Is there a way to make Pages, Numbers and Keynote the default apps for opening Microsoft Office documents, such that if I double-click a Word document it launches Pages and opens, etc.? I know I can do it by double-clicking the Office document and dragging it to the appropriate iWork app in the dock, but it would be nice to have it happen by default. That way I can put Office in my rearview mirror!

Fantastic - worked exactly as advertized. Thank you both!! Office is now a distant memory (except when I have to save in MS formats to send files to the unfortunate masses).

  • Problem opening  Microsoft Office & PDF Email attachments

Just got a Motorola Razr.  Having a problem opening Microsoft Office (e.g. Work, Excel) and PDF Email attachments.   Receive message "winmail.dat Unsupported file type".   Can open jpg files.  I have Quick Office, which is suppose to enable you to do this, but does not seem to make a difference.   Wonder if it is an Android 2.3.5 issue.  I used to have a Blackberry and this was not an issue.  This is a showstopper for me and I will return the phone if I can't read Microsoft Office and PDF files attached to emails.  My email server / client is Verizon.
    I would appreciate any recommendations.

Hope this is one of those "better late than never" scenarios.
The problem sounded familiar, and it's one that's been around for a long, long time.  I don't think it's a Razr problem, or a Droid problem, but it is about email clients.  I've had similar issues with email on computers.
The problem starts with Outlook's RTF format.  It saves the document's formatting info (bold, underline, etc.) and other info in the winmail.dat file, and some email clients simply can't decode it.
The sender can change the format of what they're sending, though, and I believe that the most recent versions of Outlook can change those format setttings on a person-by-person basis (don't want to start a rumor here because I could be wrong about that).
Just copy and paste the error message into Google (or your preferred search engine, and you'll see some info that might be helpful.

  • Unable to reinstall Microsoft Office 2008

The Genius Bar reinstalled my operating system (Mavericks).  I have been unable to reinstall Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac.  It doesn't seem to even be able to read the CD.  Should I be able to install Microsoft Office 2008 or will I be forced to upgrade to 2011?

My experience with Microsoft Office on the Mac is that when reinstalling an operating system, Office asks you to resupply your authorization credentials.  As I recall, that is something like a twenty character code that identifes you as a legitimate purchaser.
Once your Mavericks was reinstalled, how did you recover whatever you had on your machine previously?  Was it still in place?  Did you recover it from a backup?  Did you attempt to run Microsoft Office from either the backup or where it had been before attempting the CD approach?

How can i open microsoft office word documents on my ipad 4 and edit it. How to transfer my scaned documents on it

There are a number of apps that are compatible with Office documents. Apple makes iOS versions of their own iWork apps (Pages, Keynote, Numbers) that are available free if you purchase a new iOS device and that can be purchased separately for older devices. There are also 3rd party combined suites that cost less than the separate Apple apps. Ones often recommended include Documents 2 Go,  Quickoffice and Office2 HD.
If you can accept needing a network connection whenever you want to use the apps and have an Office 365 subscription, Microsoft has just released their Office Mobile app, though it has significant limitations. Or a server-based solution such as CloudOn might be an option for you.
    Regards.

Use a product such as OpenOffice, LibreOffice, Google Docs, iWork, or Microsoft Office 2008 or newer. In the case of Word documents, you can also use TextEdit.

  • Acrobat Standard 8 on Windows 7 printing issues with Microsoft Office 2003

When I try to print from Microsfot Word, Excel, etc. Version 2003 files will not print. I have adobe standard version 8, Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium - 64 bit, Microsoft Office 2003. Please help!!!!  I don't get an error message. The progress bar stops at about 10% and goes no further.

AA8 is not certified for Win7, particularly X64. Be sure to update your Acrobat to the most current version and you might be able to use it. As an alternative, print to file when using the printer and then open the file in Distiller to get the PDF. That may be your only choice, but I do think some folks have been successful with WIn7 and AA8. However, the x64 system puts a wrench into the problem.

  • Buttons on toolbar do not work in Microsoft Office 2003 programs.

I am using Adobe Acrobat Elements 6.0.  My toolbar buttons do not work in any of my Microsoft Office 2003 programs.  I can Print file and change the print file to Adobe PDF to convert, but it would be nice to be able to use these buttons on the tool bar.  When I run my mouse cursor over the buttons it tells me to "see Adobe PDF menu for settings."  Can anyone help me?

Did the buttons previously work in Office 2003?
The best information I could find is a troubleshooting guide: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/317/317147.hml  Make sure your installation of Acrobat and Office are fully updated.
As a side note, Adobe stopped developing Acrobat Elements in 2007. http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/acrobatel.html

  • KM Image file name for Microsoft Office 2003 documents

We want to change the images which display for Microsoft Office 2003 files loaded into KM to something more recognizable, but we CANNOT find the image files for .XLS, .DOC, .PPT, etc.
Any Ideas what they are called?  Are they in the standard image repository?
    Thanks!

    Hi Brian,
the icons are saved under /etc/public/mimes/images.
You can go to KM Content and upload there your own icons, You can either replace the SAP standard ones (ie: document.gif for .DOC) or you can change the KM Configuration (Content Management -> Utilities -> Icons) so that your own icons are associated with the MIME types you want to change. The second solution should be more upgrade safe in my opinion.
    Hope this helps,
    Robert

  • Microsoft Office 2003

    Hi,
I recently purchased a new computer to replace my other one that died of old age. I was running Windows XP professional and I had Microsoft Office 2003 on it. My new computer is running Windows
7 but no Office. So I installed my Microsoft Office 2003 on it. The installation went well but I keep getting an end users box that needs me to agree to the terms of use before I can use any part of it. It isn’t a major problem but just a pain. It is a genuine
copy of Office and was registered and activated with Microsoft in my name when I purchased it which brings me to my questions.
    1. Is it necessary to purchase a newer version of Office? ( I’m not a wealthy person)
    2. Is there compatibility Patches to bring Microsoft Office 2003 up-to-date?
    3. If not why not?
    4. How do you get rid of that @*#$%! Box.
    Thank you
    Lawrie

    Hi Lawrie,
Office 2003 is fully compatible with Windows 7, 32-bit as well as 64-bit operating systems.

If necessary, you could contact local Microsoft customer service to confirm if you can upgrade Office 2003 to newer Office.
Note: Microsoft ended support for Office 2003 on April 8, 2014. This change has affected your software updates and security options.

It's recommended to download and install
Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT), which is developed by Microsoft Support teams. Once the tool is installed, you can run it at any time to scan for hundreds of known issues in Office
    programs.
