Satellite A60-762: Right Ctrl Key

Hi
I have Satellite A60-762, is there anyway to have a Ctrl key on the right instead of having only the left one?
Thanks

Hi Maged,
I think there is no way when you are working with a Windows OS. There is a standard keyboard driver which could not changed!
In Linux you could change the key asignment by software.
Could be found on the net!

  • REQUEST: Switch LEFT Fn key with RIGHT Ctrl key for GX740?

Hello Svet, is it possible to switch the LEFT Fn key with my RIGHT Ctrl key on the GX740?  I can say I never touched the right Ctrl key and having both Ctrl keys side by side on the left of the keyboard will make it infinitely easier to hit any one of the Ctrl keys when gaming.

I think what he means is, that where most people want the two [Fn] and [Ctrl] keys swapped on the left of the spacebar, he wants the [Fn] key swapped with the [Ctrl] key to the right of the spacebar instead.
(Off-topic: one thing I do like with my Wind U135DX, is that there is a second [Fn] key on the right-hand side of the keyboard , but I never had a problem with the [Fn] and [Ctrl] keys needing to be swapped, I just got used to it instead )

  • Discerning between left and right ctrl key(events)

I hope this is possible. If yes just point me in the right direction if too complex to explain in a couple a lines.
    Thanks in advance

I could be wrong but I don't think you can. In Java,
both left and right ctrl keys produce the same key
code (17). It used to be that these two keys
were 'hardwired' to the same function on the keyboard
but I'm not sure if this has changed..I don't think so.
    No, I don't think it's possible.... besides, from a
user interface point of view, why would you want to do
that? Do you know any piece of software that does it?jaffab is right, Client Access for AS/400 makes a distinction between the left and right control keys, as do a number of games.
Unfortunately, the java AWT doesn't :-(
I would tentatively suggest that it would be possible, using JNI, but I imagine it wouldn't be simple to get a key listener set up in C/C++ that would trigger a java event - being the only way I can think of to differentiate between left and right control keys.
Given its infeasibility, I'd recommend having the control key do absolutely nothing - far easier to recover from, especially since reset and enter are such diametrically opposed functions!
Heh, you could always pop up a message box if they press and release control without pressing another key between, saying what to press for reset or accept, respectively :-)
    -Troy
Random trivia - I think the default set up in Client Access is like that because on the original keyboards used with the green screens, the keys in those corners were reset and enter! Users who had gotten used to typing without looking at the keyboard wanted the functions in the same place, rather than on the keys with the same name.
IBM never has been happy doing things the same way as everyone else - database 'tables' are called 'files', 'schemas' are 'libraries'... trying to teach Java to one of the ILE/RPG programmers here, and we still have trouble with the english language differences, trying to explain what the programming language is doing!
Well, that certainly wasn't the few-line post it was supposed to be...

  • Chromebook 14-q029wm ctrl-key

My left ctrl-key appears dead. I've only been using the laptop in earnest for maybe a month and the keyboard is spotless as-new so there's no need to blame dirt/crumbs. When I view "keyboard shortcuts" and hit the left ctrl-key nothing happens on the screen but the right ctrl-key works as expected. I have also gone into "languages & input" and tried US Keyboard, US International, US Extended and didn't help. Lastly, I have Powerwashed the unit (on stable OS) and that didn't fix either. Any suggestions would be appreciated and thanks!

I understand that the left ctrl-key is dead but the right one functions.  You have tried different keyboards, under language and input to no avail.
When I checked the specifications for your notebook, I see it came with Chrome OS.   Here is a link to  Adjusting Touchpad and Keyboard Settings on Your HP Chromebook (Chrome OS).
If this has not resolved the issue, I suggest contacting HP support for assistance. As one key works and the other one doesn't , it may very well be a hardware issue.

  • Hp t510 right alt key mapping not working with ctrl + s

Using the HP t510 to launch a xendesktop session via storefront. We have a mission critical application that uses the ctrl + alt + s hotkey to secure itself. The left alt key with ctrl + s is working as it should but the right alt key does not. When testing in the win7 on screen keyboard the right alt and ctrl stay lit up. When hitting the S key after depressing both the  right alt + ctrl (right or left ctrl doesn't matter) the alt keys disappear from the on screen keyboard as if they were no longer pushed. They hotkey combination never makes it to the application and it does not secure itself.
I've tested this same workflow on an ASUS thin client, desktop, and laptop hardware with no issues. It does in fact seem to be some hotkey mapping the HP device has baked into it using the right alt key.
Has anyone seen any issues that even closely mimic this? I've seen some for ctrl + alt + del but their fixes don't work for this specific issue.

  • Windows thinking Ctrl key is stuck on Satellite P750

Yes, I've done some thorough googling and searching of this forum before posting.  No prior topic quite resembles my problem; and the solutions don't help.  Sticky keys box in the Control Panel is unchecked, not using any aides--the computer is brand new with barely anything installed and zero customization.
Using my Satellite P750 (purchased just in October 2011), every once in a while after simply using Firefox or Chrome (either one)--using nothing but the mouse pad and the left mouse button--the size of the font of the text in the browser randomly increases, and after that the computer starts thinking the Ctrl key is being held down.  (Ctrl +Alt + Del does nothing, only rebooting the machine).  I realize that I'm inadvertently toggling some function, but what?  Looking around Control Panel, nothing seems to be close to "if user moves curser, increase font size and make the Ctrl key stuck".
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Solved!

Thanks, had the same problem with brand new Toshiba Laptop.
Ours also had external mouse attached. With OS thinking CTRL key stuck, Excel went ape and began doing all manner of evil upon a very complex spreadsheet we were working on.
One note: On ours after getting to Mouse Properties, there was not an 'advance' option. Instead we had to select:

  • Globally map Ctrl   B and ctrl   F to left and right arrow keys, respectively

Does anyone know how I would *globally* map Ctrl + B and ctrl + F to left and right arrow keys, respectively? This keystroke works for some applications, but not all. I'd like it to always work.

So, it is now June and still no fix.  This is incredibly annoying when you are giving a professional presentation in front of an audience and the speaker wants to go back a slide.  It's enough to change presentation software.
In truth, the Presentation Module in LR5 is vastly inferior to other dedicated software.  For instance, you can't add a text slide as a divider between "chapters," as far as I can figure out, you can't merge slideshows or go from one to another without exposing your entire screen, the order of slides is over-ridden by some predetermined metadata rather than being able to choose two catalogs and put them into one slideshow, deciding yourself which catalog should play first.
Are any of these changes in the works?
Any eta on the right/left arrow fix?
This could be SO great.  I hope it is moving in that direction.

  • Keyboard Satellite 3000-214 - Ctrl-key not working

    Hi,
I've started my old Satellite 3000-214 Notebook and suddenly my Ctrl-key did not work anymore.
I've already tried to clean the keyboard by unmounting all keys from it and cleaning the foils, without success.
Can anyone tell me where I can get a suitable keyboard from (I live in germany)?
Does it has to be an original Toshiba keyboard or can it be from an other manufacturer?
How can I remove the keyboard from the laptop? Do I have to open the case or is it possible to get it out with a screwdriver or something?
    Thx for any hint!
    Best regards.
    Ting

    Hi
You should use the original Toshiba keyboard which is supported and compatible with this notebook.
All parts and devices you can purchase from the Toshiba authorized service partner in your country. The full database with worldwide ASP you can find on the Toshiba European support page.
Usually if you want to remove the keyboard you have to remove firstly the thin cover above the keyboard.
There you will find two screws which secure the keyboard. After removing of these two screws you will be able to put out the keyboard.
But be careful; the keyboard is connected with the flat cable to the motherboard.

  • Satellite A60 Resume failure and press any key to continue

I have a problem with my satellite A60.
I have had the computer for about a year and a half and have never had any serious problems with it of any kind. However last week the keyboard started to fail, first with only a few keys out, then the full keyboard.
This never bothered me much because I am quite familiar with Toshiba computers. So I plugged in an external keyboard and I was back in business.
I used it fine up until now but I put the computer into hibernate last night and when I got up this morning it says "resume failure and press any key to continue".
I press keys and nothing happens, it just stays at that screen. I try to access BIOS by pressing esc when I turn the computer on and priority is set to BOOT not RESUME, hover it wont let me highlight it to change it anyways. The computer wont let me boot from cd. Basically its just stuck at that screen and thats it.
I am wondering if there is another way around this or is my computer finished for good. I was running linux fedora the time of the crash.

Sounds tricky but its not unresolvable..
This sounds strong like a hardware issue, but I will not say it for sure.
That keyboardthing can be a defective keyboardcontroller, because your error description is describing a similar case which I had with my machine.
I send the machine to my local servicepartner and they exchanged my mainboard and the keyboard and after the repair the error, I had, never bothered me again.
Just a little question: does some fluids come on your keyboard?

  • Right shift key doesn't work after BIOS update on Satellite A200-28P

For some reason, after I upgraded my Bios, my right shift key doesnt work and neither does my FOUR and SIX button, hence why i have written in words :(,
I tried reinstalling windows, hasnt made a difference.
I tried rolling back the drivers for the keyboard, as well as changing to the US version of the keyboard, nothing has helped.
    Thanks

okay first problem is, my warranty was due to expire, so i brought an extension, and nothing has happened whatsoever on those regards, secondly, i ran a keyboard test, and i found out that it wasnt only the four six and right shift key which was now no longer working, but also the f2, f10, f11, f12,
I have used a external keyboard, which works :D but it annoying to use that when the whole point of a laptop is to have the inbuilt keyboard,
    any suggestions on this

  • 1 Gig Ram upgrade on a Satellite A60-302

Hi there, 1st time user here
I bought a Sodimm DDR 333mhz 1gig ram card for my Satellite A60-302 and installed it today - but with no luck
The notebook turns on but the screen stays black and then the notebook turns itself off, it's also emitted a continuous beeping sound. I thought it was because the RAM was too much but it can handle 1280MB of RAM and has 256in built so it should be able to handle it
The RAM hasn't been touched by static-hands so can anyone help?
    Many thanks
    Matt

Youre right. The unit should be able to handle the 1024Mb memory module in a single slot.
I have only one explanation why the notebook will not run after the upgrade.
Either the module is not right and not compatible or its simply corrupt.
I recommend using the modules recommended by Toshiba.
    These are:
    PC2700 256MB (PA3311U-1M25)
    PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
    PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)
The PA3313U-1M1G is a SO DIMM 200-pin DDR 333 MHz PC2700 memory module.

  • I need to reprogram the delete and enter key to the left side of a external keyboard for the ipad mini. don't need the caps/lock or ctrl key and due to an injury my daughter can only use her left hand to type. She is using a text to speech app to verbaliz

I need to reprogram the delete and enter key to the left side of a external keyboard for the ipad mini. I don't need the caps/lock or ctrl key. Due to a brain injury my daughter can only use her left hand to type. She also uses a text to speech app to verbalize all of her needs since her speech isn't intelligible any longer either. And her vision was significantly affected also, so the keyboard has to be mounted about 6 inches from her face. So to reach across the keyboard with her left hand to the right side delete and enter button is physically difficult and causes typing errors, which cause people to not understand what shes trying to say.
The best keyboard so far is the Zagg folio mini. I just had to make stickers to enlarge the letters on the key buttons.
Does anyone know how I can reprogram these two keys? Or where I can buy a wireless mini keyboard for Ipad made for lefthanders with these two functions on the left side. I have searched for days and days. It's sooooo important to me that she be able to contribute her voice again. Imagine if you got in a car accident and couldn't speak clearly any longer, but understood everything still. Thanks for any help and suggestions you all take the time to share with me. I really appreciate the kindness of strangers to help me help my daughter.

  • Tecra M10 - Stuck CTRL key issue -- perhaps to do with BIOS?

    Hello and thanks for reading.
I recently switched my Tecra M10 to Windows 7 (from XP) and it soon developed the dreaded "stuck CTRL key" issue. This causes the keyboard to behave as if the CTRL key is permanently depressed. Sometimes hitting a combination of keys, or bringing up the onscreen keyboard, temporarily solves the issue, but then it returns.
It seems to be an issue many people have, with no simple solution. I've looked at every thread about it I can find, and tried many things to do with drivers etc. without any success.
So firstly, if anyone knows a remedy that works for this particular machine, I would be very grateful to learn it!
Then, there are two things I've not yet done: update BIOS and disable pinch zoom.
I was looking at the following BIOS update:
    http://www.toshiba-asia.com/sg/support/drivers/details/25244
... which is version 3.00 and seems to be most recent. My own version is 1.90.
However version 3.00 is labelled "For PTMB0* ONLY". I don't know what this means or whether it applies to me. Can anyone help? Should I install this BIOS?
For the pinch zoom, I've been told that disabling it does sometimes cure the CTRL problem -- but I can't find any pinch zoom facility on the M10. I suspect it simply doesn't have one. Is that right?
Many thanks for any help you can give.

    Hi
    > I was looking at the following BIOS update. which is version 3.00 and seems to be most recent. My own version is 1.90.
There are different Tecra M10 models on the market.
Check the labels at the bottom of the unit. There you should find some numbers like for example PTMB0E-01K00LGR
The first 6 characters are important: for example PTMB0E
I assume your notebook belongs to European series.
In such case you should check the Toshiba EU driver page for possible BIOS update.
    http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
However, on Toshiba EU driver page you will find also the BIOS v3.0 for all European Tecra M10 units.
Anyway, back to the CTRL button issue: guess what, you should connect an external USB keyboard and should check how the CTRL button acts.
In case the USB keyboard would work properly, the CTRL button of internal keyboard is affected and you will need to replace the internal keyboard.
PS: it could be possible that the option "sticky keys" has been enabled. To disable this function, you have to press SHIFT button 5 times in the row.

  • Remap Left and Right Command Keys as Different Buttons?

    Hello,
I'm suffering from the dreaded emacs pinky (yes, I've already changed the caps-lock key to ctrl) and I want to know if it is possible to set the left and right command keys to different options.
For example, to keep the right command key as command, but have the left function as ctrl.
    Thanks for any help.

I think the answer is the same as last year.  Don't know of any way to do that.

  • Fn+F5 not displaying options - Satellite A60

Two days ago when I used Fn+F5 I could scroll through the options and choose the different display options. Yesterday when I did the same thing the options were not available. Both times I was connecting to a projector. Rebooting does not help.
Is there a way to reset the defaults? Perhaps I hit a key and changed them? Has this happened to anyone else? Just looking for a solution.
I am running XP, on Satellite A60.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

    Hi
Looks like the Toshiba Hotkey Utility and Hotkey Utilitys for Display Devices stop working.
Go to the Toshiba driver page, download the utilities and reinstall it!
PS; I would recommend firstly removing the old tools from the OS. Then reboot the notebook and install Hotkey Utility, reboot again and follow the installation with Hotkey Utilitys for Display Devices.
    Good luck and greetings
