Satellite A60-793: graphics problem

Hi, I'm posting to get help to solve a graphics problem for my A60... Some images, in the browser, appear distorced and with a low quality. What can i do to solve it?

which browser do you use? MS iexplorer, Mozilla, Opera or another one?
Do you use the Toshiba recovery OS or an own full installation? Is there a Antivirus and a Firewall runing?
When does the problem occure? Only at images, if yes, which kind of image type, or fonts also affected?
Is it difuse or a failure with the colors? Describe it a little bit more detailly!
In the end if these suggestions doesn't help, please use the Toshiba Recovery CD to setup a new system! Then everything should be ok!

Satellite A60 - possible ram problem

i have a satellite a60 it says it has 256 of ram. on running my aol computer check up it informs me that i have only 192 of ram anyone any idea what the problem could be?

I suspect that your RAM is shared with your graphics card (usually 64 Mb) so although you actually have 256 Mb of RAM, 64 Mb is pre-allocated for graphics use leaving 192 Mb. Your AOL computer chack is reporting the available RAM rather than the actual RAM

Satellite A60: battery charging problem

Hey,
I have a toshiba satellite A60 notebook. My notebook is 2 years old. After I used my laptop in battery mode, it fell out because the battery was empty. When I plugged it in on the net, the battery led flashed amber for less than a second and went out again. The battery won't charge anymore and the batteryled is out.
Windows detects the battery though. The laptop still keeps running on the battery for some minutes. I already had this problem a year ago and after a few months the battery started charging again.
Does anyone have a simular problem and how do you solve it?

Possibly the battery cannot charge properly because it has a malfunction.
Generally the battery performance decreases in process of time.
I read that you can charge and discharge the battery about 500 times and then the performance goes down.
You can try to remove the battery for a several time. After this time try to charge it.
I would also recommend checking if this issue happens also with a new battery.
But its also possible that there is something wrong with the power supply electronic.
This could have a bad influence on the charging procedure.
I have also read that the BIOS update have solved some battery charging problems.
But if the battery charging has worked since 2 years so I assume the BIOS is ok.
However, check it with a new battery.

Satellite A60 DVD drive problems

Hi,
I have a Satellite A60 ( 18mths old now ) - When i 1st got it the DVD writer was D.O.A - so i sent it off and had it replaced.
It has worked fine since then until recently when the DVD drive just wouldnt recognize anything - CD's or DVD's
Tried everything with that unit - but at the end of the day figured the drive had gone.
Purchased another one ( SD-R6252 ) and lo-and-behold the same thing is happening.
Every diagnostic I run says the drive is OK - but there is no disc in it.
I have reinstalled windows from the factory recovery discs -
Updated the BIOS
Tried to update the drive firmware - but the update said it wasnt necessary.
Tried it with Nero, Windows, InterVideo - Nothing.
As it is now a work machine I cannot afford the 3 months turn around time to send it off and have it looked at ( thats how long it took last time ) and my nearest Toshiba dealer is up at the other end of the country.
Any suggestions for things i can try would be greatly appreciated.

Satellite p20 552: Graphics problem

Toshiba satellite p20 552 (new, out of the box)
When set to 32 bit (color) the cursor has blue vertical stripes around it (in a square of 2x2 cm) when placed on a white surface (ex in the explorer).
This behaviour disapears when set to 16 bit.
The graphics card is the GeForce FX Go5700.
Does anyone know this problem or as an answer to this?

By the way, when the pc goes in standby mode (power management or when closing the lcd panel) and when one tries to restart it, it does not swithch on the LCD screen screen, but there is some activity on the disk and the fan works. After some time it shuts down. At restart a windows error message appears.

you wrote your p20 is new ad out of the box, then you use the preinstalled Toshiba OS, don't you?
You can try to reinstall the graphic driver (Toshiba Tools&Utilities CD or you go to https://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com - Download Driver and choose your machine). Compare the two driver versions ad install the newer one!
Which resolution do you use?
Your secod problem can be solved if you check your settings in the Toshiba Power Saver. Perhaps you set it to default. If this don't solve the problem you should reinstall the Power Saver!
Hint: You can also use the Hiberation Mode. This mode shuts the notebook down and all power is off. At the next start, the Hiberation mode loads a hdd image and you can work! It is faster than normal start up and all power is off in Hibernation mode.

Satellite A60: ATI graphics driver issue - blue screen error

I have a Sattelite A60, and I have had it for a year, and now suddenly, I have frequent crashes. The Blue Screen of Death tells me that it is caused by a driver not working properly, namely an ATI driver.

I deinstalled the display drivers and for a short while it seemed to work. However, the blue screen of death did not reappear, but now my laptop suddenly switches itself off: immediate powerdown. Also, I have had the driver failing to work properly: this resulted in the screen resolution suddenly resetting itself to safe mode. De blue screen I got before mentioned that the fault lay in ati2dvag.dll - the windows error analysis screen that appeared after my reboot told me that the problem with this dll again caused the problem. This was before and after the reinstall of the Toshiba drivers.
Going to try and reinstall them again now. See if it works this time.

Satellite C660-1H6 graphical problems (ATI 5470) white pixels

Hello everyone,
I apologize for my English. I'm Italian.
My pc has a very annoying flaw... during normal use of the pixels you see crazy. You see the annoying white pixels.
There are not many but especially for graphics work it's badly.
I already restored the PC once installed the ATI driver from the Toshiba official website but the problem continues.
I also tried the drivers from the amd site but the problem persists.
If you can help the problem becomes much more pronounced after the return of the suspension. In this case, the desktop you see really bad with all the pixels in a mess.
If you need additional information or tell me I can do tests as well.

Im not quite sure if its a internal display issue or maybe a graphic card problem
Therefore you should connect and external monitor in order to check whats exactly wrong
Usually the graphic card is affected if the same pixels would appear on the second monitor.
But if the picture on the external monitor would be OK, then the graphic chip should be ok too and in such case the internal notebook display is faulty
But in both cases it would be expensive to fix the notebook because both parts are not cheap.

Can I use board from Equium A60 for my Satellite A60?

Usually there are different Satellite A60 series and different Equium A60 series but both notebooks are very similar and you should be able to install the motherboard from a Sat A60 into the Equium A60.
The motherboards dimensions (width + length) are the same.

Satellite A60 memory upgrade doesn't work - help

Hi, I have a Satellite A60-793 and I would like to upgrade the memory adding a 512 MB to currently installed memory.
I tried to install a 512MB PC2700 DDR 333MHz SODIMM module, but system won't boot up: it emits a long whistle, then shuts down automatically. If I remove the module, system boots properly.
I've allready updated my BIOS, i there anything more I can do to make it work?

But I still have a doud here, do you think it may be solved if I change the actual 8chip module for one 16chip module low density with the same caracteristics? I was told these were more compatible modules.

Problems with grahic card on my Satellite A60-672

I have a Satellite A60-672 which has graphics by ATI. On a number of occasions on start up it has crashed and the online crash system says everytime that it is ATI technologies. I have emailed ATI and they said it is nothing to do with them.
I have tried to email toshiba but none of the address work. The crash system tells me to uninstall the software but seeing as I didnt put it on, i am wary about doing this as it might muck up the operation of my laptop.
Currently my laptop works fine with this continuous problem. Has this happened to anyone else or does any one know how to contact toshiba.

here is a url where you could choose your country. Then you have to choose PC systems, after a new site is shown and there is on the left side a telephone number from the Toshiba infoline. They could say you the country specific number for the Toshiba Support hotline!

Graphic card upgrade on Satellite A60

My Queston is if there is any possibitity to change my Radeon Mobility 7000 igp of my Satellite A60 for a better card or do i have to by a complete new Mainboard?

This theme was discussed a lot of time in the forum and there is a simply and short answer: No, its not possible to upgrade the graphic card.
The card is a little chip which is fixed on the mainboard.
About the motherboard changing: Well, its not very easy because of a exact fitting and compatibility.

It would be very interesting to know the detailed name of your unit Satellite A60-xxx because some models were delivered with the shared memory graphic card and it should be possible to change the memory up to max 64 MB.

Satellite A60 new found hardware wizzard problems

Hi i am the owner of a Satellite a60 laptop i have recently formated my hard drive with windows xp since i have done this i have encountred problems with the new found hardware wizzard.on trying to install software for my i-pod and bt voyager 1065 wireless laptop adapter i recieve the following message "new found hardware wizzard cannot install this hardware the hardware was not installed because the wizard can not find the necessary software" this occurs even when the software cd is in the drive could you possibly tell me what could be causing this could it possibly be a missing driver?

Unfortunately I didnt try to configure i-pod yet but try to activate option to check the CD directly or check if maybe some setup.exe file is available on the CDs and must be installed before you connect external devices.

Satellite A60 - BSOD when surfing with wireless PCMCIA card

Hello i used to browse internet with a wireless cardbus WL-54-CB (ADVANCE) on my Satellite A60-120 running windows xp sp2.
I was working well until i decided to clean my computer which was slowed down by viruses.I use Ad-aware and Kaspersky and updated patches on wndowsupdate.Now the PC is clean but i have problems with the PCMICA card, when i launch IE i surf for one minute and windows crashe BSOD !
It displays :
STOP 0x00000001 (0xFE570000,0x00000002,0x00000001,0x819587DE)
Any ideas to fix it ?

Cmon Guys... Stop that Toshiba Recovery Disk madness... Its no use... The Recovery Disk is as old as your laptop.. maybe older... The whole bunch of drivers in there are old... Its no use... Look.. For example if you have an Nvidia graphic Chip, you have to install the newest Nvidia driver... Prefer using the Nvidia driver, never the driver from Toshiba... And besides... It is always better to install the system manually...
Back to the question... Since you had a virus I would recommend to reinstall your OS, even you think its clean... To solve your problem...
deinstall the wireless card driver
deinstall the PCMCIA driver and install the newest driver. Write down the Model and some other infos before deinstalling it :) ...
reinstall the wlan crad driver...
test it :)
I always recommend to make a system backup every month... So if things go wrong... Just restore the backup... and everything is fine again... :)

Satellite A60 - White Screen Freeze on Boot up

My laptop Satellite A60-106 has developed some problem on boot up. It just freezes onto a white screen on boot up before I see any graphics. It looks as though it can access the DVD/CD drive but any attempt to boot up with a recovery disc fails in the same white screen and it freezes. I have tried the manufacturers advice as powering up with the F12 key pressed and another suggestion on the
CD to hold the C key down whilst turning on the power brings the same result.
Nothing but the white screen. I have tried F8 to see if I can get into safe mode but it won't move on past the initial clunking of the drives and then silence. I can't think of any way to get this to allow me to move on. I am sure you can though? I would be happy to format and reload but if I can't access the drive then how can I do that?
I wanted to increase the RAM but all of the suggestions in the hand book do not relate to the layout of my laptop. The small access window on the bottom of the laptop will not allow enough access to the RAM? Poking about around the RAM might have induced this white screen lock out?

To be honest you have serious problem and I really do not believe you can solve it alone. It is not easy to say for sure why white display occurs at the boot up. In my opinion there can be several reasons responsible for this.
- Display (display cable, LCD electronic)
- as far as I know white screen occurs if FL inverter makes background light but there is no display signal it can be some defect on mainboard and there is no video signal
The best thing you can do is to contact authorized service provider. Let them check your notebook. They have special tools and there is no problem to find out why this happen.
