Satellite A60 - increased memory

My Satellite A60 has 256mb of memory and is running vey slow these days. I've removed several applications but it's only partly cured the problem. I've also defragmented the hard drive. Could I need more memory?
Any advise would be appreciated - how do I obtain it and install it?

Hi Charles,
Increasing your RAM will make an improvement, but only with applications which are particularly memory intensive. These will include heavy graphics using games, and such utilities as photo-manipulation, video editing etc.
It is far more likely that your system is being slowed by excessive task running after your initial startup. Check in your Task Manager for how many background processes you have running and how much resource they are actually using. For a typical XP installation I would expect there to be between 45 - 50 processes running.
Unless you have already done so I would recommend running a spyware utility (ADAWARE SE and SPYBOT S & D) which can be freely downloaded from the Internet, to see what turns up.
I note that you have already defragmented your hard drive, which is excellent, but I would strongly recommend running the Disk Cleanup utility as well to get rid of any unnecessary clutter.
With regard to RAM I believe the maximum that you can expand to is 1280Mb, and I would recommend that you use Toshiba or Kingston RAM modules as these are tested to work with your notebook. I have also used ORCA modules in my own notebook wuite successfully. Really the choice is yours.
Information on replacing RAM modules is usually contained in your users handbook, and should also give details of the procedure to follow.

  • Satellite A60-199 - memory upgrade questions

I have an Satellite A60-199 and want to increase RAM from 512mb.
Is this possible and if so how much memory can I put in
    Mike Hills

The brochure says you can install a 1GB module in the Memory Slot. There is only one slot you can install memory into.
So if there is 256MB onboard, you can increase the total memory to 1.25GB

  • Memory upgrade on Satellite A60-218

    Hi,
Is it possible to upgrade the memory for the Satellite A60-218 models?
I've heard that the memory is onboard (internal) and cannot be replaced. Is this true?
If not, could somebody give me a hint where can I find the memory modules on this model?
I have tried disassembling it without success.
    Thanks!
    Levente

    Hello
Just for info: Satellite A60 has 512 MB internal memory and one sot only is available for upgrade. This unit can handle with max 1,5 GB of RAM. On the bottom side in the middle there is placed memory module cover. Remove it and you will find RAM slot.
For RAM upgrade you can use follow compatible memory modules:
    PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
    PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)
If you have more questions please write again.
    Bye and good luck!

  • Memory upgrade to 1GB RAM on Satellite A60

I have Satellite A60 and I want to update the memory from 256MB to 1GB
    Please can I do it?

    Hi
Maybe the link to this Toshiba Satellite A60 memory website could help you too:
    http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=8333&ft=m&st=3
As mentioned there is only one upgradeable memory slot and you could use the 200-Pin PC2700 (333Mhz) DDR SODIMM modules.
Usually its not matter what manufacture it is. Only the memory specifications are important.
    Bye

    Hi
I have re installed windows XP on my Satellite A-60 SA63A-002001 and have a problem trying to find out what drivers I need for the PCI Flash Memory hardware which I don't know what the name of the device is.
    Can someone PLEASE help me!!

    Hi
I dont know which exactly notebook you has because there are many Satellite A60-xxx but I assume most of them have the same hardware configuration.
The fact is that the on this unit the Compact Flash card slot, smard card reader, SD-card slot are not available. You can use only a PCMCIA cards.

  • Satellite A60: Integrated Radeon 7000 Graphics Memory Upgrade

    Hi Everybody!
I was wondering if I could get up to 128MB RAM on my Integrated ATI Radeon 7000 IGP?
Maybe I could upgrade my RAM to 1GB to get 128MB video RAM on my Radeon 7000?
    Thanks!

    Hi
It would be very interesting to know the detailed name of your unit Satellite A60-xxx because some models were delivered with the shared memory graphic card and it should be possible to change the memory up to max 64 MB.

  • Does Satellite A60-672 has internal memory that is unremovable

Nebie here with what is probably a daft question.
I bought 1GB DDR Ram to upgrade the above notebook (currently has a very limited 256MB RAM) and removed the memory access slot on the base and then.......confusion.
Does this model have internal memory that is unremovable?
There is a black sticker over the memory, the usual levers to release the memory are blocked in by other areas of the motherboard which makes me suspect there's another angle on this.
If so where is the actual expansion slot?
Sorry if this sounds a bit thick!
    Hope you can help.

    >Does this model have internal memory that is not removable?
Yes, the Satellite A60 supports an 256MB of internal memory and this memory can not be removed. Therefore there is only ONE memory slot which is upgradeable.
So you will be able to upgrade the memory only to 1280MB
    Cheers

  • Satellite A60 memory upgrade doesn't work - help

Hi, I have a Satellite A60-793 and I would like to upgrade the memory adding a 512 MB to currently installed memory.
I tried to install a 512MB PC2700 DDR 333MHz SODIMM module, but system won't boot up: it emits a long whistle, then shuts down automatically. If I remove the module, system boots properly.
I've allready updated my BIOS, i there anything more I can do to make it work?

    Well I apreciate your attention.
But I still have a doud here, do you think it may be solved if I change the actual 8chip module for one 16chip module low density with the same caracteristics? I was told these were more compatible modules.
    Any advise for this?
    Thanks!

  • 1 Gig Ram upgrade on a Satellite A60-302

Hi there, 1st time user here
I bought a Sodimm DDR 333mhz 1gig ram card for my Satellite A60-302 and installed it today - but with no luck
The notebook turns on but the screen stays black and then the notebook turns itself off, it's also emitted a continuous beeping sound. I thought it was because the RAM was too much but it can handle 1280MB of RAM and has 256in built so it should be able to handle it
The RAM hasn't been touched by static-hands so can anyone help?
    Many thanks
    Matt

Youre right. The unit should be able to handle the 1024Mb memory module in a single slot.
I have only one explanation why the notebook will not run after the upgrade.
Either the module is not right and not compatible or its simply corrupt.
I recommend using the modules recommended by Toshiba.
    These are:
    PC2700 256MB (PA3311U-1M25)
    PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
    PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)
The PA3313U-1M1G is a SO DIMM 200-pin DDR 333 MHz PC2700 memory module.

  • Satellite A60 - White Screen Freeze on Boot up

    Hi
My laptop Satellite A60-106 has developed some problem on boot up. It just freezes onto a white screen on boot up before I see any graphics. It looks as though it can access the DVD/CD drive but any attempt to boot up with a recovery disc fails in the same white screen and it freezes. I have tried the manufacturers advice as powering up with the F12 key pressed and another suggestion on the
CD to hold the C key down whilst turning on the power brings the same result.
Nothing but the white screen. I have tried F8 to see if I can get into safe mode but it won't move on past the initial clunking of the drives and then silence. I can't think of any way to get this to allow me to move on. I am sure you can though? I would be happy to format and reload but if I can't access the drive then how can I do that?
I wanted to increase the RAM but all of the suggestions in the hand book do not relate to the layout of my laptop. The small access window on the bottom of the laptop will not allow enough access to the RAM? Poking about around the RAM might have induced this white screen lock out?
    Thanks
    Charlie

    Hello Charlie
To be honest you have serious problem and I really do not believe you can solve it alone. It is not easy to say for sure why white display occurs at the boot up. In my opinion there can be several reasons responsible for this.
    - Display (display cable, LCD electronic)
    - as far as I know white screen occurs if FL inverter makes background light but there is no display signal it can be some defect on mainboard and there is no video signal
The best thing you can do is to contact authorized service provider. Let them check your notebook. They have special tools and there is no problem to find out why this happen.
    Bye

  • Satellite A60 crashes and reboot cycle - system32\DRIVERS\Ntfs missing or corrupt

I have a Toshiba Satellite A60 which has recently developed a serious problem and is currently stuck in a crash reboot cycle. It began with the message "system32\DRIVERS\Ntfs missing or corrupt", I have read about this problem on message boards but still am unable to find a fix.
Currently on start up various error messages are displayed stating a driver is missing or corrupt, the Toshiba start up page has vertical lines of missing data and on the few occasions it will fully boot after a short period of time vertical lines appear through the display and it crashes.
I have tried a number of fixes:
    * Re installed windows XP pro (formatting the hard drive and renewing the partitions)
    * Updating the bios from the toshiba site to version 1.90 (I believe the update also flashes the bios, though would need this confirming?)
    * Swapping the hard drive with another laptop, still will not boot and HD works fine in the other laptop, ruling out the missing or corrupt files posibility.
I realise this could be a problem with the RAM and believe the laptop has 512 fixed to the motherboard, inaccesible without stripping down, but am not sure how to determine if RAM is the problem. Whilst trying these fixes I am getting problems with booting from the CD drive and can only get the drive to spin up and recognise the CD about 1 in 10 times.
Could anyone suggest a remedy or fix I may try? or suggest how they fixed a similar problem. Many thanks

You description ssounds not very good ;(
The hardware malfunction seems to be responsible for the vertical lines on the screen
If the vertical lines appear also an external display the board could be wrong.
Youre right, I have googled and it seems the Sat A60 supports an internal memory.
As far as I know such memory cannot be removed and only a electronics technician could solve such internal memory problem.
But are you sure that the internal memory is corrupt. The unit supports only 256MB of internal memory and other modules are removable
So you could try to replace it

  • Satellite A60 - How to fix a socket connector on mainboard?

I have a Satellite A60 that is from 2005. About 6 months ago the CPU fan started running all the time and recently, the computer has started shutting off.
Figuring that there is overheating going on, I decided to completely disassemble the computer, clean it out completely, remove old thermal compound, and install a larger memory DIMM.
Well, all went like clockwork until I tried to put the connector from the power on switch back into the socket. It was not going in easily so I gently put a little more pressure on the connector using tweezers. At that point, the socket broke apart from the motherboard.
I don't have the tools for such a solder job, but could a competent technician successfully reattach it or is there a new mobo in my future.
    Thanks for advice!
    Dan

    >I don't have the tools for such a solder job, but could a competent technician successfully reattach it or is there a new mobo in my future.
Possibly a well-versed and experienced notebook technician would be able to solder an new connector to the motherboard. You will need to make some calls and will have to ask some technicians if something like that is possible to fix.
In worst case you will need a new mobo

  • Satellite A60 - avi2dvag error

i have Satellite A60 series laptop. It is giving me an error with this file and my works gets lost all of a sudden. Some physical dump of memory starts. any suggestions what should i do?

    Hello,
If neither of those solutions help, then I advise taking the computer to your nearest ASP. ATI2 is the driver for the video controller. But the problem can just as well be that the graphics processor is dying and needs to be changed out. Which your ASP will be happy to do.

  • Satellite A60-174: system32\drivers\isapnp.sys error

    Hello
after many nights and using the recovery CD nd trying everything my Satellite A60 do not want to work. Even after I cleaned and formt everything new.
    I got this error: system32\drivers\isapnp.sys
I installed the HDD in another laptop and works fine. If I bring the HDD back to to the Satellite A60 I still get this error.
OR the Toshi stays at Debugger DLL when I try to install another version of win XP Pro.
I think the RAM or something in the motherboard is broken. Can I change the Motherboard RAM?
Would it help if I add some ram in the extra RAM slot?
(I use only the stock ram as it is on the motherboard.
anyother idea what this system32\drivers\isapnp.sys can be.
It says to start the laptop with the original Win XP cd and try with an R.
Well this dos NOT work in this laptop.
I can not come to the WinXP screen. The laptop will break the instalation before that!
    Konstantin

    Hi
It seems youre right. Have investigated a little bit and it seems that this notebook was delivered with a 256MB internal memory.
I dont think that you will be able to remove the memory or to solve this issue yourself.
I really recommend contacting the Toshiba service partner. The guys have more experience with such reparation procedures.
If you will open the notebook and will try to remove something so I think its possible that you will damage something more on the motherboard.

  • Graphic card upgrade on Satellite A60

My Queston is if there is any possibitity to change my Radeon Mobility 7000 igp of my Satellite A60 for a better card or do i have to by a complete new Mainboard?

    Hello
This theme was discussed a lot of time in the forum and there is a simply and short answer: No, its not possible to upgrade the graphic card.
The card is a little chip which is fixed on the mainboard.
About the motherboard changing: Well, its not very easy because of a exact fitting and compatibility.
