Satellite A60 - possible ram problem

i have a satellite a60 it says it has 256 of ram. on running my aol computer check up it informs me that i have only 192 of ram anyone any idea what the problem could be?

I suspect that your RAM is shared with your graphics card (usually 64 Mb) so although you actually have 256 Mb of RAM, 64 Mb is pre-allocated for graphics use leaving 192 Mb. Your AOL computer chack is reporting the available RAM rather than the actual RAM

Satellite A60: battery charging problem

Hey,
I have a toshiba satellite A60 notebook. My notebook is 2 years old. After I used my laptop in battery mode, it fell out because the battery was empty. When I plugged it in on the net, the battery led flashed amber for less than a second and went out again. The battery won't charge anymore and the batteryled is out.
Windows detects the battery though. The laptop still keeps running on the battery for some minutes. I already had this problem a year ago and after a few months the battery started charging again.
Does anyone have a simular problem and how do you solve it?

Possibly the battery cannot charge properly because it has a malfunction.
Generally the battery performance decreases in process of time.
I read that you can charge and discharge the battery about 500 times and then the performance goes down.
You can try to remove the battery for a several time. After this time try to charge it.
I would also recommend checking if this issue happens also with a new battery.
But its also possible that there is something wrong with the power supply electronic.
This could have a bad influence on the charging procedure.
I have also read that the BIOS update have solved some battery charging problems.
But if the battery charging has worked since 2 years so I assume the BIOS is ok.
However, check it with a new battery.

Satellite A60 DVD drive problems

Hi,
I have a Satellite A60 ( 18mths old now ) - When i 1st got it the DVD writer was D.O.A - so i sent it off and had it replaced.
It has worked fine since then until recently when the DVD drive just wouldnt recognize anything - CD's or DVD's
Tried everything with that unit - but at the end of the day figured the drive had gone.
Purchased another one ( SD-R6252 ) and lo-and-behold the same thing is happening.
Every diagnostic I run says the drive is OK - but there is no disc in it.
I have reinstalled windows from the factory recovery discs -
Updated the BIOS
Tried to update the drive firmware - but the update said it wasnt necessary.
Tried it with Nero, Windows, InterVideo - Nothing.
As it is now a work machine I cannot afford the 3 months turn around time to send it off and have it looked at ( thats how long it took last time ) and my nearest Toshiba dealer is up at the other end of the country.
Any suggestions for things i can try would be greatly appreciated.

Possible RAM problem?

About a week ago I've upgraded RAM in my macbook pro (late 2011) to 8GB. After that several times I've got freezing macbook (take a look at the attached picture) and 3 short sound beeps periodically. Am I right that the only possible problem is RAM quality? Its Hynix DDR3 PC10600 1333Mhz, 2*4GB

AHT wont run, checking possible RAM problem

I suspect a problem with my RAM do to the fact that it crashes often, and upon restarting the Apple Report indicates possible memory corruption. I decided to try and confirm this theory by running an Apple Hardware Test (AHT). This would be an appropriate time to mention I have a mid 2011 iMac 21.5" with a 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 with 16 GB RAM running on OS X Version 10.9.2. Unfortunately holding down the "D" key did not work. My next attempt I held down "Option+Command+D" with the same results. My two questions are: how do I check my RAM, Why wont AHT run?

Per http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509 holding down D will only work if the machine shipped with OS 10.7 or later. If your mac shipped with an earlier version of OS X then AHT will be located on the second install disk. If you are still unable to get the tests to run you may want to setup a Genius bar appointment and have the computer looked at.

EMac crashing more & more often (possible RAM problem?). Help, please!

My eMac is a year and a half old, and the screen began to suddenly freeze up about a week ago. I first noticed the problem when playing back DVDs. After a minute or so, the screen would intermittently display a bunch of short, thin horizontal white lines along with the image, and then suddenly lock up; for a few seconds, I could still move the cursor, then that would freeze, too; the only thing that worked was to turn the power off and on again. The problem has been getting steadily worse since then. The freezing up seems to be triggered by anything that involves a lot of motion on the screen (moving a Quicktime, Windows Media Player, or VLC window around while a video is playing; using screensavers that involve a lot of motion, etc.). The white lines, however, only appear with the DVD player. Most recently,and more alarmingly, moving any window at all around, even a little bit, seems to trigger the problem, as do drop-down menus, adding bookmarks, etc.
Also, I've noticed that the problem is sometimes accompanied by a very "smeared" looking Dock, and if audio is playing at the time of the freeze it will often stutter.
After reading posts, both on this site and elsewhere, about similar problems, I've tried the hardware test on the disc that came with the computer. (Everything passed.) I've also reinstalled the OS, disconnected non-essential peripherals, repaired permissions, used the disc repair utliity (no repairs were needed), trashed a number of permssions as per advice on some websites -- all with no success. I've also spent the past week looking through the various logs and reports on the Console, but since my technical knowledge is extremely limited, this information has not been able to help me so far. Finally, there are several user accounts in my family, and this problem does not seem to be confined to any one of them.
Today, I ran memtest (www.memtestosx.org) to test my memory, and one of the 3 test sequences gave me the following error message:
"Bit Flip: testing 1FAILURE: 0xfffffefe 1= 0xfffffffe at Offset 0x03261c93"
Could this be the problem? If so, what does it mean and how can it be corrected? (All of the other memory tests were o.k.)
I'm growing increasingly frustrated and worried as this problem worsens, and I'd be grateful for any advice.

I'd take one of the DIMMs out of the eMac and test again. If you get the error, the DIMM in the eMac is bad. Replace it. If you don't, that DIMM is probably still good. In either case, take it out and test with the other DIMM. If you get the error, then the other DIMM is probably bad. If both DIMMs show the error, you may have had two bad DIMMs (unlikely, but possible) or the test may be in error. At that point you might want to run Apple's hardware tester, which ships with each Mac. (With older machines, it was a separate CD. With newer machines, it's on the DVD.) If Apple's tester says you have bad RAM, you have bad RAM. Replace it. If Apple's tester says that you have good RAM, but the problems continue, I'd take it in for repair... or just buy new RAM and have done. Most eMac 1.25s andn all 1.42s can handle up to 1GB (Apple's official stance) in two 512MB sticks, or 2GB (reality) in two 1GB sticks.

Satellite A60-793: graphics problem

which browser do you use? MS iexplorer, Mozilla, Opera or another one?
Do you use the Toshiba recovery OS or an own full installation? Is there a Antivirus and a Firewall runing?
When does the problem occure? Only at images, if yes, which kind of image type, or fonts also affected?
Is it difuse or a failure with the colors? Describe it a little bit more detailly!
In the end if these suggestions doesn't help, please use the Toshiba Recovery CD to setup a new system! Then everything should be ok!

Satellite A60 new found hardware wizzard problems

Hi i am the owner of a Satellite a60 laptop i have recently formated my hard drive with windows xp since i have done this i have encountred problems with the new found hardware wizzard.on trying to install software for my i-pod and bt voyager 1065 wireless laptop adapter i recieve the following message "new found hardware wizzard cannot install this hardware the hardware was not installed because the wizard can not find the necessary software" this occurs even when the software cd is in the drive could you possibly tell me what could be causing this could it possibly be a missing driver?

Unfortunately I didnt try to configure i-pod yet but try to activate option to check the CD directly or check if maybe some setup.exe file is available on the CDs and must be installed before you connect external devices.

1 Gig Ram upgrade on a Satellite A60-302

Hi there, 1st time user here
I bought a Sodimm DDR 333mhz 1gig ram card for my Satellite A60-302 and installed it today - but with no luck
The notebook turns on but the screen stays black and then the notebook turns itself off, it's also emitted a continuous beeping sound. I thought it was because the RAM was too much but it can handle 1280MB of RAM and has 256in built so it should be able to handle it
The RAM hasn't been touched by static-hands so can anyone help?

Youre right. The unit should be able to handle the 1024Mb memory module in a single slot.
I have only one explanation why the notebook will not run after the upgrade.
Either the module is not right and not compatible or its simply corrupt.
I recommend using the modules recommended by Toshiba.
These are:
PC2700 256MB (PA3311U-1M25)
PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)
The PA3313U-1M1G is a SO DIMM 200-pin DDR 333 MHz PC2700 memory module.

Problems with grahic card on my Satellite A60-672

I have a Satellite A60-672 which has graphics by ATI. On a number of occasions on start up it has crashed and the online crash system says everytime that it is ATI technologies. I have emailed ATI and they said it is nothing to do with them.
I have tried to email toshiba but none of the address work. The crash system tells me to uninstall the software but seeing as I didnt put it on, i am wary about doing this as it might muck up the operation of my laptop.
Currently my laptop works fine with this continuous problem. Has this happened to anyone else or does any one know how to contact toshiba.

Satellite A60-102 - How much HDD is possible

How much harddrive capacity used in this Laptop

The Satellite A60 is a little bit older series and I think the notebook supports the IDE HDD controller
Possibly the HDD controller would supports only 28bit LBA and this means that only 128GB would be recognized by BIOS.
I think a 120GB HDD should work but Im not quite sure if bigger HDDs would be supported due to mentioned 28bit LBA

As mentioned there is only one upgradeable memory slot and you could use the 200-Pin PC2700 (333Mhz) DDR SODIMM modules.
Usually its not matter what manufacture it is. Only the memory specifications are important.

Memory upgrade on Satellite A60-218

Hi,
Is it possible to upgrade the memory for the Satellite A60-218 models?
I've heard that the memory is onboard (internal) and cannot be replaced. Is this true?
If not, could somebody give me a hint where can I find the memory modules on this model?
I have tried disassembling it without success.

Just for info: Satellite A60 has 512 MB internal memory and one sot only is available for upgrade. This unit can handle with max 1,5 GB of RAM. On the bottom side in the middle there is placed memory module cover. Remove it and you will find RAM slot.
For RAM upgrade you can use follow compatible memory modules:
PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)

I am not able to burn DVD on my Satellite A60

Hi!
I have a Toshiba Satellite A60 with a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K13A. And Every time I try to burn a dvd it doesn't work. The drive detects the dvd but I can't burn it. I've tried several burning programs such as Record Now! and Intervideo WinDvD Creator. Do I need to upgrade the burner or something.
And the format of the dvd's are DVD-R, and I checked the manual, and it says I'm able to burn DVD-R.

On this way it is not easy to say if there is just some small problem or maybe malfunction but according to your description I presume that the drive can read but not write DVD medias. In this case it is really possible that drive is defective.
If you have tested it with different DVD medias and different burning applications I am pretty sure that drive is defective.

Satellite A60 Power Saver error

Hi all,I have a Satellite A60 and I am getting the following error at start up;"Power Saver A fatal error has occured this program will be terminated code ox2". At various times whilst logged on my notebook turns off and to continue I have to log in again as from start up.Can anyone please help with a solution.Thank you,Mark.

The only thing that you can try is to remove power saver and try to install it again. It is also possible that this will not help because there are some entries in the registry. If there is no problem for you the best way is to reinstall the unit with recovery CD. After that it will work again properly.
In my opinion it is not easy to repair some specific tools like power saver.
