Satellite A660-10W - Sensitive Arrow Key

I have a Satellite A660-10W running Windows 7 64-bit for about 7 months now. A couple of days ago I noticed that the right arrow key became very sensitive. It feels quite normal just like other keys when pressed and not actually soft to the touch but the slightest touch to the key would cause it to trigger. This a major inconvenience for me since I use it a lot for writing (my work) and using this arrow key now is not accurate at all and it becomes a hassle when I need to use it.
Could anybody help me with this?
Thanks in advance

Hey,
Its not easy to discuss about this behavior and I think this must be checked from a notebook technician if its normal behavior or not. I cant say something about this without seeing it.
Your notebook is only 7 months old so I would contact an authorized service provider in your country. In this case hardware repair is for free so ask the guys for help. They should check your keyboard if it needs replacing or another part.
Do know where you can search for an authorized service provider?
Here you can do it:

PS: The sensitivity of single keys cant be changed.

  • Satellite A660-10W - After Windows 7 installation some unknown devices

So I have the Satellite A660-10W, and I reinstalled the Windows 7 it came with Windows 7 ultimate 64bit. First thing is when I use fn+F6/F7 (other combinations work) for brightness levels it doesn`t work, brightness doesn`t change. And the other thing is that there seem to be some unknown devices.
Here is everything hope someone can think of what could it be, thanks in advance. :)

OK you and my friend are right, because I installed the video card drivers from nvidia`s website, not from toshiba, now brightness works :D
And I reinstalled Windows because one thing there were no partitions only one lonely drive and I wanted 30-40gigs for windows and the rest for stuff, not when I decide do reinstall lets say a year later with work and media on it to lose everything. I didn`t do any back ups, even all the shop assistant talked about when I bought it was to buy some dvd`s and backup, but I said I never did that before so why would I need it now, anyway now everything works perfectly, iI`m prepared for the next time :D , thanks for the help. :)

  • Satellite A660-158 and FN Key functionality

Satellite A660-158 model. Where to me to find the utility for Fn key?
I haven't found this utility in drivers. That I displayed what Fn buttons I push.
    Thankful in advance.

    > Let's finish this subject about different views on life.
This is good. :) Obviously you have enough time to play with all this. Fact is that drivers offered for new machine are absolutely the same as drivers you got with recovery image.
With other words I think youve spent your time for .... nothing.
Anyway, install VAP again and hopefully FN will work well.

  • Satellite A660-10W with HDCP support

    Hello guys,
I have the A660-10W and want to download iTune movies in HD
It says I need to have a video driver with HDCP (Support?) but I don't know, nor do I understand what it is.
I would appreciate your help - as you have done extremely well in the past.
    Thank you in advance

    Hi
HDCP is a copy protection protocol.
This protocol prevents copying of high-definition movies.
If the system does not support the HDCP you will not be able to send the data to the device (TV, LCD) via HDMI or other ports like DisplayPort or DVI.
Microsoft Vista and Windows 7 use HDCP in computer graphics cards and monitors.
But if you want to watch high definition movies on external TV you have to ensure that both HDMI ports on TV and notebook would support the HDCP.
But it seems that Sat A660-10W does not support the HDMI port and therefore you will not be able to watch the HDCP protected HD movies on external monitors.

  • Satellite A660-10W - What are the function buttons?

I cannot find in the User's Manual what each of the fuction buttons are according to their signs.
(I refer to the function buttons between the two speakers; below the screen.)
    Thank you

    Hi Bedouin,
Just press every button step by step and so you will see what happens: Learning by doing! ;)
The programmable buttons from left to righ
1.Eco button The notebook will change the power plan to eco mode. In this mode your notebook will save energy and dim the display for example
2.WLAN button WLAN connectivity will be turned off or on
3.Programmable button As the name says, you its programmable button. Therefore you need Toshiba Button Support that is preinstalled on your computer
4.Play/Pause I think this says everything
5.Illumination on/off The button can turn on/off the illumination
    6.Volume up/down
I hope I could help you to make this clear. :)

  • Satellite A660-10W cut out due heating

My laptop cut-out yesterday I believe to be because of over-heating.
I was watching a DVD for over 2 1/2 hours and it cut-out.
Then I switched-on and realized only then that it was hot - i.e. over 70 degrees (so it must have been even hotter when it cut-out).
Today, it seems OK-ish. I'm not watching a DVD.
The tempurature reaches 55 degrees/ the fan seems to be running 90%
    What do you think?
Is it "normal" to get overheated after watching a DVD for so long?
Although it seems OK-ish today, is 55 degrees on the "hot side" ?
I would appreciate any help / suggestions,
    Thank you

    Hi
Due to stressed CPU and GPU the heat dissipation might be higher.
But the notebook should not power off if the cooling modules would work properly.
So be sure that there is enough free space around the notebook while watching movies or gaming or running other heave performance applications.
You should also check if the notebooks cooling vents are not clogged by dust.
I clean my fans from time to time using compressed air spray this helps to keep the cooling fans clean. Usually this should be good enough to keep the temperature at normal level.

  • Keyboard arrow key is faulty on Satellite A200

    Hi,
My 8 Month old Satellite A200, right hand arrow key will only function if slam it down with extra presure then usual.
It there any user fix or is this covered by warranty?
    Thanks
    Matthew.

    Hi
The notebook is covered by standard warranty for during the first 12 month.
After registration on the Toshiba European page you would get additional 12 month.
It seems the yoru notebook is still covered by warranty and therefore I recommend contacting the ASP (authorized service partner) in your country for a part replacement.
Maybe the whole keyboard must be replaced who knows get in contact with the guys and ask for further details
    Good luck

  • My Satellite A660 still freezes after three service under warranty

My laptop freezes occasionally from the first day. I have a reclamation three times at two authorized service enterprises. First service changed the BIOS, they clean it and said that Toshiba tests didn't find the hardware problem.
Second service enterprise said that test shows problem with the hard drive and they changed Laptop still freezes occasionally, event viewer is my proof. Warranty expires at Sept 2012. What I can do?
Please help me with the sloppy service.
    Desperate customer

Yes, I visited moj servis and mr servis. Both are official service centres.
It is Satellite A660-10W with Windows 7 Home installed and yes it freezes with factory settings. It freezes no matter what degree of activity is present. Event Viewer is a proof of freeze conditions. I don't want to be rude or boastful, but my 15 years work with computers tell me that motherboard have an error. I just don't know why Toshiba service centres are so inert.
I can find any toshiba support mail to inform toshiba about service centres sloppiness. What they think, that I want another computer and have a lot of time to get fight with stupid people, stupid questions in stupid companies.
I choose toshiba because they have 2 year warranty. Now I see that they can put 10 years warranty on that way. It would be more usefull that toshiba have an address where can I send the laptop with the "thank you but never more" message.

  • Drivers update on Satellite A660-11m

    Hello guys
My first time to buy Toshiba and it looks nice but I found problems that i don't know how to deal with them Toshiba Bulletin Board ask me to install new drivers a lot of times which I follow 1 by 1 to the end when i download the drivers after installing them didn't work and keep doing the same every time asked me for same drivers.
Since I bought it i got hate from the keyboard on the left side where caps key and s w d a q keys is it normal not sure
how to tweak my computer make it better because I feel my computer trying to save some power and I always use my computer at home where plug to wall .
I feel my computer is slow and I have I7 not sure why .
    Satellite A660-11m
    - Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (pre-installed, Toshiba-HDD recovery)- Intel Core i7-720QM Processor- DVD-RW SuperMulti drive (Double Layer)- 4096 MB (2048 +2048) DDR2 RAM (1066MHZ)- 40.6cm (16") TruBrite HD (1366 x 768 ) High Brightness display with LED backlight and 16 : 9 aspect ratio

    Hello
First of all I have to say that you can ignore such driver update messages. If you dont notice any problems you can still use the old drivers.
For power saving you should use the Eco-Mode on your notebook. As far as I know Satellite A660 has an Eco key and if you press it, Eco Utility will start and save energy.
Furthermore the preinstalled Windows 7 from Toshiba is already configured for best compatibility and good performance. You can install and do what you want, everything is configured properly. :)

  • Satellite - randomly the arrow keys, question mark key and z key will not work

Sometime the arrow keys, question mark and z key work fine (like now) and sometimes they just don't work at all (like a minute ago).  I will just be typing and they will work and then just stop working, then work again.  They either all work or all do not work. This has been happening since about a week after I got the computer.  It is so annoying.  Can you please help me fix this problem?  I have a Satellite T135-S1309.
    Many thanks.

    Hi,
I've posted recently about keyboard problem, and have tried everything as everybody else, finally and oddly :-) the solution for my problem was to reconnect little flat cable that connects keyboard and MB :-D shown in step 10 on the following link:
    http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-X205/take-apart-laptop-2.htm
..so maybe your keyboard somehow strangely detached itself from mother-board just a bit and started creating all sorts of strange problems as mine... one cable line was without contact because flat cable was not attached properly anymore and mentioned keys stop working... I have also downloaded keyboard tester software that helped me find all keys and combination of keys that stop working ... so guys, try that and good luck!

  • Satellite C50-A-15Q - arrow, question mark key and z key are not working

I have a Satellite Pro, C50-A-15Q. All keys were working fine yesterday, today I turn the laptop on and the arrow keys, question mark key and z key are all not responding. Any idea how I can fix this?
I have tried turning the laptop off and on, hoping (naively) that this would fix, but to no avail.

As Tom already wrote, it is not easy to say for sure if this malfunction is result of defective keyboard or maybe keyboard controller. In my opinion troublemaker is the keyboard itself.
Have you maybe updated BIOS or done anything that could be responsible for this?
I presume your notebook is pretty new model with valid warranty so best option for you is to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

  • Arrow Key Sensitivity.

Hey guys is there a way to adjust the sensitivity of the arrow keys when using Leapord? For instance if I wanted to be able to use the keys to move around a web-page faster, I could in theory adjust the sensitivity of the keys?

You can go to your system preferences and adjust the key repeat rate and the delay before repeating. Look under keyboard & mouse>keyboard.

  • Satellite A660 - Delete button sensitivity

    Hi,
I bought a Satellite A660 a week ago. Everything is fine, except for one thing, so far: the delete button has to be hit perfectly in the middle to work. What I mean is that if you hit the delete button even very slightly off centre (laterally), it doesn't do anything. All of the other buttons I've tested work perfectly - even if you hit them right on either edge.
Given the frequency of use of the delete button in editing, you can imagine how frustrating this is!
How do I go about getting this repaired or replaced?
    Thanks very much.
    Gary Bartlett

    Hi buddy,
Its not easy to say something about this but from my own experience I can say every keyboard button has the same sensitivity, I dont notice any difference between the buttons.
So in your case I would contact an authorized service provider and ask the guys about this problem. They can tell you if its normal or not and if not they can replace the keyboard. This would be for free if your notebook is covered by warranty. :)

  • Some keyboard keys of Satellite A660-11M don't work

    hi,
the keyboard of my Satellite A660-11M is not working properly. Some keys won't type, others would type the wrong letter/number.
Does replacing the keyboard usually fix the problem? Are keyboards available for this model?
By the way, juice was accidentally spilled on it weeks ago, so i assume it's the cause of the problem.
    thanks in advance.

    Hi
Yes, possibly the issue is related to the spilled juice.
I think only the keyboard replacement could help you
The new keyboard can be ordered from a Toshiba ASP in your country.
Here you can find all ASP worldwide:

  • Satellite A300 - arrow keys are moving alone

    Hello,
I have this strange problem with my laptop.
The arrow keys move alone either up and down or left and right and they keep moving till i press many times on shift or alt or ctr.
I need your help plz... and thanks in advance.
    Husam

    Hi
Where did you notice this issue? Are any special applications running when this issue appears?
To be honest Im not sure about this issue but usually something like that can be related to keyboard malfunction
Therefore you should check if the keyboard needs to be replaced
Try to connect an USB keyboard and check if the same would happen
If not, then it's internal keyboard issue.
