Satellite A660-11M: Does not start with 8GB of RAM, but works with 6GB

Satellite A660-11M:
I upgraded my RAM from 4GB (2x2GB) to 8GB (2x4GB). When I start the computer I can see in the BIOS it reads the 8GB of RAM. However, when it boots up, it does not go past the blank DOS screen (just before starting Windows).
If I remove one of the 4GB & replace with a 2GB (so I have 6GB in total) it starts ok.
Does anyone know how can I get it to work with 8GB of RAM?

Hey,
To be honest I never heard about SanMax RAM modules...
In my opinion the problems is related to your RAM modules Not compatible to your notebook or defective.
Can you test it with high quality modules from Kingston or pretested modules from an authorized service provider?

  • Satellite A series does not start up after BIOS update

After bios update with downloaded utility my notebook does not start up.
Did this case covered by warranty?

Im not quite sure if this would be covered by warranty. You should contact the ASP in your country for details but I presume its not covered.
PS: Did you try this workaround:
    - remove battery, disconnect the AC adaptor
    - wait ~ 40min
    - connect both devices again and try to power up the notebook

  • Satellite 1800-814 does not start if AC adapter is plugged in

    Hello,
I've got a problem with my 3 year old 1800-814.
It all began with sudden Windows crashes. Sometimes it ran smooth, sometimes it just hung up. So I decided to reinstall the notebook. My Problem is when it is plugged into pressing the power on button does not start the laptop. Just the green light is on nothing else happens. Sometimes it starts after a wait of 3 or 5 secs. On battery it starts every time. What can I do? Defect hardware or just dust somewhere?
    Thanks,
    Jens Grieger

    Hi,
If you have a voltage tester test the AC adapter and see if it has the right current voltage, which is written on the adapter. If it does, plug the adapter into the portable and move it around, see if the light turns on and off while you are moving the ac plug(near where it plugs in to the computer, to see if it is a loose ac harness inside the computer). Does the computer randomly turn off if you have the battery removed? Or do you notice that it suddenly switches to battery power and back to AC adapter while the adapter is plugged in? Could be the adapter. Check that first. If that is good, then check the adapter plug(located on the back of the computer, where the adapter plugs in) to see if it is loose. If you find that it is loose, you can take it to an Authorised Service Provider and have them fix it. I hope this helps.

  • Satellite L650-12Q does not start up

I have a toshiba L650Q laptop. Its been working fine since 1.5years now..
Just a couple of days back I closed the laptop ie closed the screen ( typically it puts the same in sleep mode).
After about 10 min when I tried to open & start up the laptop simply does not startup :(
I can see the battery & power adapter LED glow, but when I press the start button, it simply does not start..
there is momentary glow of the power on button, i hear the fan trying to start up & then it dies down in abt 2 seconds & laptop simply does not start up..
I tried the below troubleshooting steps but no success
    1) I removed the battery & tried starting using the adapter, it dint start up
    2) I put the battery out for like 1 hour & then tried again, it dint start up
Please advise the troubleshooting steps or any pointers as what could the problem be & how can i resolve it..

    Try this:
    - Remove the battery and disconnect the AC adaptor.
    - Press power button 30sec long
    - Connect battery and AC adaptor to the notebook
    - Try to power up the unit.
If this fails, check the memory modules.
Remove one module and try to boot the notebook using one module. Run the test for each slot and module.

  • My Satellite A notebook does not start due to missing files

I have a Toshiba Satellite and at the start of every month is ***** out.
I brought it brand new about 2 years ago and at the start of every month it will not go into windows.
It wont even let me into safe mode or anything and it is not a virus as I expected it to **** out tonight.
So I did a virus scan and nothing showed up and then half an hour later it died, right on schedule. Im sick of this as each time it dies I have to use the recovery disk and it wipes everything. I have on there and after 2 years of having to restart everything all over again each month. Im ready to "accidentally" drop it in the pool and claim insurance on the dam thing. I dont get me wrong its great till the first of every month and without warning it just goes really slow, and when I restart it, it says a file is missing and wont boot up.
The weird thing is........... it is always the same time of the month and since today is the 4th it died so at Im on my 8s computer typing this while my Toshiba is restarting all over again.
IF U THINK, YOU CAN TELL ME WHY THIS IS HAPPING I will love u forever.
Im just so sick of having to reload everything and like last month I expected it to kill itself. So I did all the scans and cleaned it up.
But no it still died right on schedule..........hmm plz help

Hi sorry can't actually give you a solution to your problem but would say sounds as if you never thought to buy extended warranty on it, also if it did this within the first year what did Toshiba say about it as surely you asked them to look into it and if not, sorry but why on earth not? I can see why you thought it was a virus but sounds to me(not technically trained but using logic) that if it does it at the beginning of each month then its something wrong with the actual computer that deals with the clock and might be worth emailing Toshiba themselves and explain it to them and see what they say or take it to a computer shop and explain and ask them to look at it and see if they can find out what is causing it as sounds as if it's been doing this from the time you first bought it.

  • Satellite M-series does not start correctly

    Hello,
I have the following problem: suddenly (don't know why, nothing changed) Satellite notebook shows black white screen with about the following:
    (sorry, translated from german):
windows did not start correctly... due to software or hardware change.. pls choose last functional configuration if mistake was due to power shut down...
But this does not work, also all other options (start windows as normal, start in safe mode...did not work.
    No idea what happenend !
    Problem:
Actually moved to another country and forgot or lost recovery CD ! already contacted Toshiba for new one but maybe anyway somebody can help?

Hmm. Stupid situation. If possible try to obtain Microsoft WXP installations CD to see if you can start installations procedure properly and if you can use repair option too.
It is not easy to say what is wrong there but I just hope there is no problem with HDD. Try to use original recovery disc.

  • Satellite A300-15A does not start up after Alcohol program installation

    Hi...
I bought Satellite A300-15A yesterday and after completing the Vista installation process, I tried to install "Alcohol" but my notebook shutdown and now I'm not able to start notebook.
It is not starting in any mode.
I forget to make recovery discs. I think Alcohol is not compatible with Vista. Error which i receive is below.
Can anyone tell me the solution?
    Please help urgently
"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: blah blah... "

Sounds like a familiar problem to me, as I had the same one with the Daemon tools. After installing those tools I couldn't start my Windows XP any more. I guess it somehow mixed up some drivers or registry entries, but not sure about that.
Ok, you can try to deinstall the tool by first starting Vista in safe mode (press F8 before Windows boot up).
You should be then able to enter Vista without problem.

  • Satellite A305D-S6848 does not start up - Windows failed to load

SCREEN SAYS "Windows failed to load because a required file is missing, or corrupt.."
    file: ntoskrnl.exe
    status: 0xc0000098
I DO NOT HAVE AN INSTALL DISK AND DONT KNOW HOW TO GET SYSTEM BACK UP AND RUNNING??
CAN SOMBODY PLEASE HELP ME ???

    Hi
It seems to be a Toshiba US notebook series and therefore the recovery process might be different as on Toshiba European notebooks
However, the recovery procedure should be mention in user manual. Check this
    Try firstly this:
Power up the unit and press F8.
Then choose Safe Mode and try to boot the Windows in safe mode.
If it does not work, try Repair the Computer option.
I think the notebook should be equipped with HDD recovery. This means that you could recover the unit without the usage of the recovery disk.
As mentioned this is US notebook series and as far as I know you have to press 0 button immediately after the notebook has been powered up.
    This should start the recovery

  • MacBook Pro can turn on and off, but does not start up. Stays on white screen with flashing folder icon, does not go to desktop.

MacBook Pro is not starting up. It just stays on a white screen with a flashing folder icon. Have tried restarting while holding the Option key, and the cursor becomes visible and movable, but it does not go to the desktop.

    Hello Sonya_Rose,
I found this article when researching the issue you describe here named A flashing question mark appears when you start your Mac found http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1440.
    Check the mouse and keyboard
This issue might occur if a mouse or trackpad button is pressed during startup. Make sure the button isn't pressed.
If the issue persists, shut down your Mac with its power button, disconnect any external mouse and keyboard, then turn on your Mac with its power button. If the flashing question mark issue persists, reconnect the keyboard and mouse.
    Additional steps
If your Mac still starts to a flashing question mark, follow the steps below. If any step resolves the issue, you don't need to continue to the next one.
Select your Mac OS X startup disk with Startup Manager by restarting and holding the Option key. After your Mac starts up, restart again to verify that the flashing question mark does not appear.
If the issue persists, insert your Mac OS X installation disc. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc.
MacBook Air note: On a MacBook Air, there are two options for starting up from Mac OS X media: Either connect a MacBook Air SuperDrive to the MacBook Air via the USB port and restart the computer, holding down the C key during startup, or use Remote Install Mac OS X to startup from a system software DVD that's located on a partner computer. Once started up from Mac OS X media, skip to step 3.
Restart the computer, then hold the C key during startup.
From the Utilities menu, choose Disk Utility. Don't click Continue.
Select your Mac OS X disk (named "Macintosh HD" by default) in the left side of the Disk Utility window.
    Click the First Aid tab.
Click Repair Disk to verify and repair any issues with your Mac OS X startup disk.
After repairing the disk, try to start up normally.
Important: If Disk Utility finds issues it cannot repair, you may need to back up as much of your data as possible (or use Time Machine to back up to a different disk), then erase the disk and reinstall Mac OS X. You should back up important files and data before erasing a drive. Erasing deletes everything on the hard disk (including things on your desktop). Also, you can install Mac OS X onto an external disk, start from the external disk, and use Migration Assistant to transfer items from your usual internal Mac OS X startup disk to the external disk, then erase the internal disk and reinstall Mac OS X.
If the issue persists, and Disk Utility didn't find any irreparable issues, quit Disk Utility, quit the Installer, select your disk when prompted, and restart.
If the issue continues, reset PRAM. Note: After resetting PRAM, if the computer starts up normally, reselect the startup disk in the Startup Disk preferences.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, start up from the Mac OS X Installation disc and reinstall Mac OS X.
    Regards,
    Sterling

  • Satellite L100-113 does not start after memory upgrade

    Hello.
Our integrator bring to our company memory modules KVR800D2S5, but notebook doesn't start :(
I read manual - this notebook supports 533 PC4200 memory modules.
But SO-DIMM 533MHz will be delivered only in a month...
What memory modules we can install to Toshiba L100-113?
    Thank you.

    Hi
I think the notebook does not power up due to a faulty or not fully compatible memory module.
Please check this 3rd party memory website:
    [Memory for Toshiba Satellite L100-113|http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=22360&ft=m&st=3]
As you can see the Satellite L100-113 memory can be upgraded up to 2GB (2x 1GB) and you have to use the DDR2 533MHz (PC2-4200) 200-PIN SODIMM

  • Satellite A210-1AO does not start

    Hello,
I could use a little help. My 4 years old A210 1AO worked perfectly until today (except for changing the HDD a couple of months ago). This evening, I've tried to power it on, but almost nothing happens. The "on" LED is on, the battery and the power LED also, but I get no image. The fan is on (and after a couple of second powers down, like usual), the ODD works, and that's all. I've tried to start it without the RAM modules, without the HDD and nothing changed. I removed the battery and pressed the "power" button for 30 sec, still nothing. And the curious thing is that now the laptop powers also using the "browser" and the "media" buttons.
Does anyone have a clue what could have happened?
I also have to mention that I've taken good care of the laptop, used a big notebook cooler with a 20 cm fan, and used it mainly for watching movies and surfing the internet (for games and other stuff I use a PC)
Any idea will be highly appreciated.
    thank you all in advanced,
    Adrian

First of all its pity to hear that your notebook does not work anymore.
I dont think that flashing the BIOS from USB flash memory would help you.
First of all the notebook should power up even if the BIOS is not up to dateso in my opinion its not BIOS issue definitely.
Secondly you said that you tried to boot up the unit without memory modules
You should try to boot up the unit with one memory inserted into the slot and should repeat this with two modules in each slot.
But to be honest, Im not quite sure if this would help you it looks like a serious hardware problem and possibly the motherboard is affected :(

  • Satellite L775-S7111 does not start.

My Toshiba Satellite L775-S7111 with Windows 7 does not boot up at all. I have already tried all options provided in "What should I do when my Windows 7 laptop does not boot up?"
I had also ordered a new power adapter; still the problem persists. Could it be an issue with the battery or Ac to dc converter?
I had purchased this laptop on 7/9/2012. So I believe it is still in warranty period. Would that be useful?
Thanks in advance for any quick solutions.

Hi! Here's a great explanation of the battery and the adapator!http://www.ehow.com/info_10060603_can-laptop-work-battery-plugged-outlet.html
It's best to read your manual (How to restore back to factory). I've been getting into trouble because Toshiba has so many models and they can't seem to settle on just which way to do that. I have a system repair disc that I made. I boot from it and follow the wizzard's directions. You are supposed to be able to restore back to factory by shutting down your pc and then holding down the O(zero) Key and the power on button. I have never tried that.
PS maybe someone will post on here and give you the page number in your user guide. I tried to make a sticky about this, but I guess staff didn't think it was a good ideahttp://www.ehow.com/how_6797569_restore-toshiba-factory.html
I Love my Satellite L775D-S7222 Laptop. Some days you're the windshield, Some days you're the bug. The Computer world is crazy. If you have answers to computer problems, pass them forward.

  • Satellite M45-s359, does not start up Windows

I have a problem with this laptop. I just re-install Windows and everything was working perfectly.
Well I started to updated with the windows update, but it took too long, and I had to turn it off
The next day I came and turn the laptop on everything seem to work fine at that point, Toshiba screen, and then black screen with white letters (I do not remember all they say), then the screen turns black, and nothing happens.
I know the laptop is on cause of the leds of the front. I tried turn it off and star over but the same result.
I got my self in to the setup and turn all to default configuration to try more options, but the same result. I did think about could be a problem with the screen, so I plug and external one and no result either.
The computer was working fine....so I started to get worried (I am still worry).
I tried to boot with a CD, did not work, boot with Xp CD did not work.
I think I have not tried a lot options but this where I got so far.
The laptop had some problems with the overheat, but I do not know if that have something to do, cause it turns on.
Any suggestion? (btw I open the part where the cooler is and nothing smells wrong).

    Hi
From my understanding the notebooks issue had begun after windows update was not finished. In my opinion its a system issue.
But I wonder why you are not able to boot from the Recovery CD or clean Windows XP CD and cannot reinstall the OS. ?:|
You should try to press the C button immediately after notebook was powered on.
This would enable the booting from the ODD (CD/DVD drive).
At the other hand you could also use the F12 button. Pressing this button would enable the boot menu. Then you could choose the CD/DVD drive and could boot from the bootable CD.
    A feedback would be appreciated

  • Acrobat 9 does not recognize the smart card reader that work with other app. Can someone help me?

    Hi to All,
Acrobat 9 (included in CS4 design premium) does not recognize the smart card reader. I have a smart card reader ACR38 smart card that works with all applications except Acrobat 9 pro. I tried to uninstall and reinstall it again, but when I try to insert the digital signature message is always the same, that does not find the Acrobat reader. Can someone help me?

    Hi MartinR
Thank you for your reply, i have tried what you suggest, and it did not work, the i DVD opening title changed but not the embedded movie.
Perhaps it is a setting in Final Cut Express?
After capturing my footage, i open a new project then i convert all clips to anamorphic, to give me the letterbox effect, i have tried now with and without anamorphic.
In my canvas screen, the footage does not fill the square, even if i have not selected anamorphic, and fall well within the TV safe areas, but the only way to ill the canvas up is to crop it bigger, but still when i export it does not give me the full screen view.
    Any ideas?
