Satellite A660-12E - black display after 8GB RAM upgrade

Hello,
I want to upgrade my laptop from 4GB RAM to 8GB RAM, but wether win7 64-bit nor a boot cd starts.
I see the Toshiba display and can get into Bios, which shows me 8GB RAM, but then comes only a black display with a cursor blinking...
Bios is updatet.
RAM chips are:
Power Ram
DDR3-1066 4GB
204pin,ds, so-dimm CL 7-7-7, PC8500(256x8)
Can you help me please?

Is PowerRam the brand of these RAM modules?
If yes I never heard about this brand I dont think its high quality module
Can you test it with high quality modules from Kingston? Or from an authorized service provider they have pretested modules?

I recently bought 2X4GB DDR3 1066 PC3-8500S RAM.
After a while (around 30 mins) I receive blue screen.

Macbook pro 13" (2009) boot-up slow or freezes after 8GB RAM upgrade?

The RAM is recognized when I check "about Mac". This is intermittent since I went from 2GB of RAM to 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) of RAM. Should I receed the boards? Are there other ways to diagnose why the system boots slowly or freezes on the blue screen before the logon screen appears? in one instance when the boot-up failed; froze on blue screen, I forced a power down and then rebooted again and the system allowed me to log on as usual. Currently running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. upgraded RAM in order to prepare for update to OS X Maverick 10.9.2. 8 GB of RAM by Crucial, purchased from Amazon.com, MAC specifications matched what was required. Please advise. Thank you.

The correct RAM specifications for this MBP are: 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM. Does the new RAM conform to these specifications?

Satellite A660-12E - Freezes with graphic artefacts

Hello,
Here's my problem :
I bought a Satellite A660-12E. Got it last saturday, transported it with great precautions.
The problem is that when I use a CG dependent program such as a game, the games freezes rapidly, even in the menus, with screen artefacts, symptom of a CG failure (happened in the menus of TF2, alien swarm and while playing Plain SIght). When under windows (with aero and transparency), going on the internet, looking at movies, everything's ok. No problem while using 3DSmax and Mudbox, but didn't check since the last time the problem happened.
Plus the problem doesn't happen the first time I launch a game. Only after a long run of the computer (I use a cooling station and check the temperature : never above 55c ) to download a game on steam, for exemple.
I tried to install my own version of windows 7 (professional 64bit), updated the cg driver, installed a selection of programs from ninite.com, but the problem reappeared.
Since I'm a student with poor resources and worked all summer just to afford a laptop, i'm a bit upset. :/
Does anyone has a solution or should I contact customer support as soon as possible ?

Satellite A660-12E - Can't run Fedora live CD

I have Satellite A660-12E, I want to install a double boot on my machine, so first a create fedora Live CD on USB Drive. I configured my computer to automatically boot off of the USB drive, I get a screen that says "Automatic boot in 10 seconds..." I choose fedeora live. I stare but after 3 minute a see a message "No Root device found"
Can somebody help me please, I don't like windows 7"

Im not a Linux expert but usually such Linux live CDs cant be installed. You can only start it from CD or USB stick because they dont write anything on HDD. So I think you need another version.
Most users here are using preinstalled Windows version but maybe this article can help you:

Satellite A660-12E Backlit Keyboard

Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A660-12E rocking Debian Squeeze in dual boot with Windows 7, and i recently acquired a backlit keyboard.
The problem is, the keyboard does not light up, neither in Windows nor in Linux. Now i know it works, because i tested it with a battery. So I think the problem is in the BIOS and it probably isn't recognized. (i don't have any options related to the keyboard in my bios (running BIOS 2.30) )

What connector do you mean exactly?
As far as I know the keyboard backlight needs to be connected to two connectors: one flat cable needs to be connected to the main keyboard connector and the second cable needs to be connected to the backlight connector on the mobo.

First go to the RIM web site and look to see if they have an uninstaller for the device you had. Some times a reinstall of the application and then running the uninstaller is required for complete removal.
If no uninstaller is available, then you will have to use Spotlight to find all items with 'Blackberry' and 'Rim' in the titles. I would also download EasyFind and use that to locate such files. Often it will locate items that Spotlight misses.

You had mentioned that since your Windows 10 Upgrade, it no longer works. Have you tried doing all updates (Windows, HP Support Assistant, BIOS)?Have you tried restarting the Notebook a couple of times?Have you tried to run the Windows Troubleshooter? Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that need updating for Windows 10. The HP Support Assistant will also help find a proper driver for you to use. Updated Windows 10 drivers will become available on the HP Drivers and Downloads Page for your product. They will be released as they become available to HP. I did find a troubleshooting document for you called Touch Screen Issues. I went out today and purchased 2 x 4GB ram sticks DDR3-8500 the correct ram for my laptop and now that i've installed both ram the laptop won't startup i checked the max ram that the laptop can hold and it's 8gb which is why i went out an purchased the 2 4gb sticks so i therefor had 8gb ram in total, the laptop won't startup when the two 4gb sticks are installed but when the ram is installed that came with the laptop it boots up and it also boots if i have the ram which came with the laptop and also just one of the 4gb sticks.
I'm really stressed as to why it isn't working i'm 100% sure the ram is the correct as it boots up with one of them installed aslong as the stock ram is installed, does anybody know what the problem is please?

On this forum you can find many threads where people describe similar issues using some memory modules. Specification is OK but unfortunately notebook doesnt work.
I can only recommend you to use 100% tested and 100% compatible modules.
Best modules are definitely Kingston modules and 4GB RAM for your notebook model has part number KINGSTON KTT-1066D3/4G (Toshiba PA3677U-1M4G).

Satellite A660-18N - Powers off after waking from sleep mode

My Satellite A660-18N powers off 2-3 seconds after waking from sleep mode. I upgraded the memory from 4GB to 8GB, using Crucial's website, so I know it's compatible. BIOS is updated to 2.00.
Not sure what to do, how can I fix this without turning off Sleep mode completely?

And why you dont test it with pretested memory modules from an authorized service provider? The part number for such RAM is PA3677U-1M4G. Its one 4GB DDR3-1066 MHz memory module.
Furthermore it would be interesting to know who says that Crucial memory is compatible Maybe its compatible to other Toshiba notebooks but fact is you have problems after waking from sleep mode and this happens only with Crucial memory and not with preinstalled modules.
I dont think somebody here can provide you a solution for this because its just a compatibility issue and its user to user forum only.

Satellite A660 - USB boot problems after BIOS update

Hello,
I own a Toshiba Satellite A660 and recently have update the BIOS to the latest version (1.80). Since then the notebook will freeze on the boot screen (the one with the Toshiba logo) whenever a USB flash memory is attached.
It works without the flash memory connected and also if I connect it after I enter the boot menu or the BIOS setup. I can even boot from it like this.
As far as I am concerned this is a serious regression. Is there any way I can downgrade the BIOS version, or any other way to fix this issue ? I rely heavily on external USB drives.

I too am having problems with my A660 since upgrading to 1.80 bios - the HDD/SD utility, the pc health monitor and half the other toshiba utilities no longer work because they can't recognize the bios and actually tell me this... I get an error message telling me ''can't get bios type''...
On top of this I get the boot problem as well - I have to unplug half of my USB devices to get the laptop to boot properly...
And now - one month into owning my new A660 - after a hard drive failure, a problem with the Broadcom internal wireless adaptor I now have the internal TV tuner no longer working and have no idea how to fix it...
My gut feeling is that the sooner I can downgrade to the original factory bios the BETTER - and wait for another bios update to come along that is not faulty/buggy...
HOPE someone can help me with this...

Battery life diminished from 7Hs to 3Hs after a 4Gb- 8Gb RAM Upgrade. MacBook i5 Late 2011 Os 10.7.5

I upgraded RAM from 4Gb to 8Gb on a 3 months-old MacBook Pro. Before that, my battery used to last 6-7hs and now it hardly lasts 3.5Hs
I also noticed that the cooler almost never stops, and the computer feels HOT.
As a developer, I give the Mac an instensive use, runing an Oracle database within a Windows XP (I'm sorry) virtual machine with VMWare.
At the same time I run Oracle Reports and Oracle SQL Developer on the MAC side and TeamViewer to connect to my remote customers' servers.
Before upgrading RAM, the memory usage used to be 100% and the performance was poor. Now the performance is much better, the memory usage is around 75% but the battery is much weaker. Shouldn't be the other way around, as now the hard disk RAM pagination should be less?
Is that normal???? What can I do, other than going back to 4Gb and see what happens? Will it help if I upgrade to Mountain Lion?

I am worried I am having the exact same problem with my Early 2011 MacBook Pro. I purchased an SSD from Crucial as well as two 8GB RAM sticks, which upgraded my RAM from a total of 4 GB to a total of 16 GB. I swapped the drive and RAM when I received my order in late February. Now, just a couple of weeks later, I am experiencing issues. The fan seems to be running a lot more often, and yesterday my MacBook went haywire. I am currently trying to update my brother's macbookpro7,1 13" to more current hardware with a new 128GB SSD and more RAM (he has 4GB). The SSD was installed successfully and runs perfectly fine, but when I installed the 8GB RAM into my brother's macbookpro7,1, it produces a black screen and a beep with 5 second pauses in between. I had looked up this error code and it indicates that the RAM cannot be found. This is where I am having difficulty understand, because I actually pulled the 8GB RAM from my other Macbook Pro 15" and it runs fine there. After noticing the error, I swapped back in the old RAM and both Macbook Pro's start up and run just fine. (Before I reinstalled the old RAMs to their respectively laptops though, I had attempted multiple solutions, like cleaning the RAM slots, reseating but to no avail, still black screen and beep.) The only difference I noticed on the RAMs are the 8GB are 1 Rank (1Rx8) and the 4GB is 2 Ranks (2Rx8) . Other than that, they are both DDR3 at 1066Mhz. Is the rank causing this problem? Please let me know, thanks!

I'd suggest you look at the manufacturer info on the 8 gig modules, then check their website to see if it's compatible with the 13".
