Satellite A660 - Touchpad not working

I have a Satellite A660-16Z and the touchpad doesn't work at all even if it is enabled with F9.
I must use an external usb mouse.
I tried several times to unistall and reinstall the touchpad driver got from toshiba site without success.
In the beginning, after purchase,I remember the touchpad was working but I used an external mouse anyway.
From that time I upgraded the bios to 2.00 plus W7 upgrades and service pack 1.
Any idea appreciated.

Hi
Does the touchpad work if the USB mouse is disconnected?
As far as I know there is a option which disables the touchpad automatically if the USB mouse has been connected.
You can find this option in: control panel -> mouse -> Pointing device
Check this.

  • TV tuner on my Satellite A660 would not work

    Hi,
I purchased a Toshiba Satellite A660-07S a couple of months ago and then reinstalled the Windows 7 32 bit system in order to have a few more partitions. But I did not delete the hidden partition from the system just in case I have to restore to factory settings.
Now I have moved to an remote area and need some TV but only to find out that the tuner was not working. It is detected properly under sound and gaming devices in device manager. Yet when I use windows media center to scan channels. The WMC just said the software had encountered a serious error and please retry.
Then I tried to use Blaze DTV which is also a very popular DTV software. It successfully recognised the Tuner but will not scan either.
I did a bit of research and used the TV tuner setup trouble-shooter from Windows 7. The warning message is that "the Tuner is not properly configured to be used in Windows Media Center". And the details show that the tuner is connected but not enabled for WMC.
But how can I enable the tuner for WMC then?
Really hope someone can help as I am freaking out now in a remote town in NT.
    Thanks!

Sounds like Windows or WMC may be corrupted. I would try a System Restore to revert the system back to a previous date.
Also ensure the channel width in WMC is set to 7mhz, not 8mhz.
    Also update the BIOS.
If that's no help, then back up your important data and run Recovery to reimage the HDD back to its factory state.
To run Recovery, turn on the notebook and hold the 0 (Zero) key down.
You should create Recovery Discs first, there should be an icon on the Desktop, or use the Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator from the Start Menu.
Now if it still doesn't work after a fresh Windows install, then there could be a hardware problem. In which case, you would need to send the notebook to a Toshiba Service Center.

  • Satellite L670 touchpad not working

Hi! I have a Satellite L670 (no other numbers/letters after that). I recently took it apart to clean the fan that was not working. I got that fixed, but now the touchpad will not work. It recognizes a USB mouse. I have tried the FN+F9 feature and it didnt help. I get a message saying "Synaptis Pointing Device Driver is not syncing". I have uninstalled, reinstalled and still no such luck. Any suggestions or did taking apart to clean possibly damage something?

To others with the same problem.
I did the fan clean and put it back together only to find the trackpad was not working.  I opened it up again (this time only from the keyboard end, and lo and behold, there was a small connector that I had overlooked and not connected back - probably because when I removed the back, it had come out of its own accord, and I hadn't clocked that it needed to be reconnected.
You can access the trackpad connector vie the keyboard side of the laptop once you remove the keyboard.  It's quite small, but is accessible through a cut out part of the plastic underside.
Once reconnected you will probably need to reboot computer, especially if you only put it into hibernation to start with.  You may need to reinstall drivers, but I didn't have to.

  • MSI GS70 20D Touchpad not working after login when I upgraded to 8.1

Short situation: I upgraded my laptop to windows 8.1, and the touchpad stopped working on the start/desktop screens. I could move it before I logged in, and after it would work for a few seconds, but then it would just stop. An external mouse works just fine, but I still don't want my touchpad not working.
I looked on the MSI USA technical support page, and it said to delete the old drivers for the touchpad and download new ones. I deleted the drives, but every time I try to download the new ones, I get a window that says my touchpad isn't plugged in, and that the drive isn't compatible with my touchpad, which doesn't make sense to me because I looked up my product specifically and tried all three touchpad drivers. None of them worked.
Now I can't use the touchpad at all because I deleted the drivers, so it would seem that the computer doesn't know it has a touchpad because it won't register the touchpad in my devices tab.
Does anyone know what I can do to solve this? Or to at least get the touchpad to register again? I just got this computer for Christmas, I've treated it very well so it hasn't banged up against anything or been dropped or mistreated, so I cannot understand why this is happening. It worked before the 8.1 update, so I'm pretty sure the issue has something to do with that.

UPDATE: So I managed to fix the touch pad by deleting the driver and rebooting, which is weird because I removed the driver completely and never reinstalled it, so the computer shouldn't really know it has a touch pad. But every time I reboot the computer after fixing it, the touch pad goes back to it's old problem and I need to redelete and reboot all over again.
Also, My computer has begun to randomly freeze and not respond to anything, with one such event leading to a blue screen with a WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR message. The computer has frozen a total of 6 times, at different moments; when I'm typing on microsoft word, at the login screen, even right when it starts up and the msi loading screen is up. 5 of these times have required a forced shut down, the first time the computer shut off on it's own because it ran out of battery power.
Finally, my computer has begun to periodically for long stretches of time stopped detecting wireless networks and is asking to be plugged into an ethernet cable to connect to the internet. This has never happened to me before, and I know I haven't turned off my network sharing center.
I'm not sure why this is all suddenly happening. It's not like I'm banging my laptop against walls. I'm very careful when I move and use my GS70, so these problems are greatly concerning to me because I just got this computer at Christmas.

  • The function key in my Satellite C660 is not working

The function key in my Toshiba Satellite C660 is not working except for volume.
That problem appeared after i changed something in the startup programs and uninstalling as i remember tvap and no button support appears in my start up programs :(

That unbelievable I did something wrong..
First of all you have to install VAP. Then reboot the notebook.
Download and install Flash Cards Utility and reboot the notebook again.
Now go to Start -> All Programs -> Toshiba -> Utilities -> Flash Cards and restart this software.
Now the FN buttons should work.
But before you would start the whole installation, you should uninstall the VAP and Flash Cards and should clean the registry using CCleaner as suggested by some users hare in the forum!

  • Keyboard and touchpad not working after Windows 10 update

after udating windows 10 on my probook 4440s keyboard and touchpad not working. if i press a key for 10seconds the key then shows up in the screen. and touchpad is worst. it freezes all the time barely moves. but with usb mouse it works fine

It's known that installing Windows from an external DVD drive on a Mid 2013 MacBook Air causes that the keyboard doesn't work after finishing the installation. The fix is to install Windows by using a USB drive. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4599

I guess its a Google Chrome issue.

  • Satellite A660 - Will not boot up and HDD boot fail

    Hi,
    firstly thanks for your time.
    Model: Satellite A660 (PSAW3A-07U00R)
The problem started yesterday, the computer was going slow as an application closed, so I held the off button untill the pc turned off. When I restarded the laptop it went to a screen saying: Start windows normally or repair Windows (recomended)
When started normally it just hangs at a blank screen, the repair Windows recommends a system restore to earlier point which didnt work. As it just hangs again. I tried pressing F8 and starting in safe mode but again it just hangs. Then after a few times trying safe mode and another system restore the computer then hangs when I press F8. After this the computer goes past the Toshiba logo screen with F2 and F12 options (which both still work), and then it comes up boot failed then goes blank and comes with boot failed bootfailed with some numbers and letters, then it goes to a small box titled boot menu with 4 options. These are
    HDD/SSD Toshiba MK6465GSX
    CD/DVD MAT****ABD-CMB UJ141ES
    FDD
    LAN
If I press ESC it goes through the bootfailed loop and ends up at same screen, if I press enter on "HDD/SSD Toshiba MK6465GSX" then it quickly comes back to screen and at the bottom it says [HDD/SSD Toshiba MK6465GSX] is failed.
I dont understand why it got worse over time. Can anyone think of why this has happend and more importantly how can I get my pc working again? Note: holding 0 then starting does nothing for me atm
    regards, Matthew

All you people looking here on this dead thread.....
Toshiba A660 laptops are renowned for having hard drive fails and boot up problems after grinding to a halt.
My solution (after losing 3 hard drives [and a terabyte of family treasured times]) is the following.
Use MALWAREBYTES (free download and use for 28 days)
Scan and fix. Mine found over 300 trojans that 2013 Norton 360 could not find.
    Re-boot into safe mode.
    SCAN again.
Re-boot and empty the malwarebytes repair files it retains...
Run Norton/McAfee (whichever you have) and you should still have no issues.
    Make a back-up repair disc. Ooooops......no you cant...........at least my laptop can`t.
    I don`t know why.....
Tell me tosh..... why does windows x64 refuse to allow me to make a system boot disc (even though the laptop is all driver updated and Windows updated)?
Uninstall MalwareBytes when Norton/McAfee tells you there will be a conflict between the two programs.
It tells you to re-boot after uninstalling it.
Then when it re-boots you get a black screen. You cannot even get to bios. You think ytour laptop is turned into a brick frisbee. You pull out the battery in frustration after five minutes.
You replace and re-boot....but again you get no bios or boot up.... you think its destroyed the Bios or graphics somehow....youo can hear the hard-drive but you have no clue whats going on..
Around this time you shake the laptop in frustration.....
    Calm down.
Switch on and leave FIFTEEN MINUTES....Ten of which will be a Black nothing screen with maybe a single white underscore line in the top left corner.LEAVE IT ALONE.
Make a sunday dinner for ten people....When you go back to the computer it will be up and running.
When you re-boot again, it will be dead black for five minutes...then boots up... you still think it has a problem... LEAVE IT.
When you reboot again it should work perfect (assuming you have not been overheating it by using it on a cushion on your lap and overheating the insides [use a laptop fan tray]) if you have not shaken your hard drive or caused scrambled damage by pulling the power fifty times like some people do.
I have lost three hard drives and thousands of Gigabytes of treasured family memories discovering the secret the hard way.
    Enjoy.
Buy a different brand next time.
ALL Windows system files should be on a SWITCHED (to update) version of Windows.
Spinning drives should be for Data only.

  • Keyboard and touchpad not working

Good day My keyboard and touchpad stopped working all of a suuden, and I need help. My computer is Toshiba Satellite E55 A-5114, this has happened to me before but only the touchpad stopped working and it fixed whenever there was a system update, now I've updated the system and installed the recent drivers and still not working, any ideas?

    Satellite E45t-A4300
There appears to be an epidemic. My guess is that a Windows update which changes a driver causes it.
So turn off automatic update and inspect them one-by-one. They are offered on the second Tuesday of each month.
       Windows Update: Frequently Asked Questions
I install only those marked Important or Critical. In particular, stay away from those which change a device's driver. Get driver updates only from Toshiba.

  • Satellite A660 - screen wont work

I have a Satellite A660 and when not hooked up to an external monitor or Tv, the screen on the laptop is white and you cant use it.
The only way I can use the laptop and be able to see the display is if i hook up the laptop to the TV via HDMI cable and use it like that.
The laptop is less then 6 months old and is hardly ever removed from our desk in our office.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem or knows what it may be!
If not, how do i got about getting someone qualified by toshiba to have a look at it as it would be a warranty issue being under 6mths old.
Thank you in advance for any help anyone can provide.

    > Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem or knows what it may be!
Did you try to use the FN + F5 in order to switch between the internal and external screen?
    Try that.
If this will not help, then I would recommend contacting the ASP in your country because the warranty should be still valid (as you posted above).
I think the internal display is faulty because the video output works and this means that graphic card should be ok.

  • Touchpad not working after suspend/resume on Asus R409LD

    Hello,
I have installed Arch on my Asus laptop and I had issues with the FocalTech touchpad being detected as a generic mouse. This problem is now fixed in the mainline kernel which I use (cf https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AS … #Touch_Pad).
However I still have a problem : when I suspend/resume my laptop, the touchpad ceases working.
Here is the output of xinput before suspending :

↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=12 [slave keyboard (3)]
I tried deactivating and reactivating psmouse but it doesn't work.
Wierdly, the touchpad is still listed by xinput after resuming, but doesn't work. And when I disable/enable psmouse it disappears from the output.
Here is a full dmseg with suspend/resume if it may help :

  • Satellite L300 - Wireless not working at all

    Hi everyone,
Im new here and my name is Jodie. My husband and I bought new laptops a couple of weeks ago, the Satellite L300.
On my husbands one the wireless just stopped working, the switch is on but no light is on. I've tried FN and F8 is says the wireless is not working. I then checked in the device manager under netwrok adapters to see if it said the same as mine and the Wireless Adapter has vanished? It's the Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Netwrok Adapter.
Can anyone help? Can't bellieve this has happened and they are only 2 weeks old :(
    Thanks Guys
    Jodie

I understand what you mean but if you check this forum and all questions here your problem is not so complicated. You cannot even imagine which problems people have with notebooks. Sometimes I ask myself what people do with notebooks. :)
Back to your problem: Jodie if there is no way to get WLAN to work I recommend you to use most radical but most effective way to test WLAN functionality install OS again using HDD recovery image. After doing this you will have factory state and all hardware components should be installed properly.
Enable WLAN using WLAN switch, be sure WLAN is enabled with FN+F8 and scan the area.
    It must work.
