Satellite A660 - Windows 7 boot problem

Hi, i have i think biggest problem i ever had. I got Toshiba Satellite A660. I got Windows 7 ultimate 64bit (just to know.) The notebook freezed so i pressed to shutdown button to shut him down.
Then i was trying to start him but i saw only "Starting Windows" for more than hour.. When I was trying to use repair disc i saw only green loading bar (like loading in windows XP) but nothing happend again. So I tried to use installation disc but I only get a "Starting windows" and nothing happend, same with USB boot.
Anyone could help me?
Thanks for every post.

I understand that your computer was working and running W7 64 bit.
Can you or have you looked at the BIOS? I don't know what you can see/change but is the hard disc displayed and is the memory reported?
If you use the W7 disk or the recovery disc to boot the computer can you get to the Install Windows screen and select "Repair your Computer". If you don't see that screen you'll have to make sure the DVD or USB is the first boot device.
At this point come back for some more ideas or google for something like "windows 7 command prompt repair"

  • Satellite A660 - Will not boot up and HDD boot fail

    Hi,
    firstly thanks for your time.
    Model: Satellite A660 (PSAW3A-07U00R)
The problem started yesterday, the computer was going slow as an application closed, so I held the off button untill the pc turned off. When I restarded the laptop it went to a screen saying: Start windows normally or repair Windows (recomended)
When started normally it just hangs at a blank screen, the repair Windows recommends a system restore to earlier point which didnt work. As it just hangs again. I tried pressing F8 and starting in safe mode but again it just hangs. Then after a few times trying safe mode and another system restore the computer then hangs when I press F8. After this the computer goes past the Toshiba logo screen with F2 and F12 options (which both still work), and then it comes up boot failed then goes blank and comes with boot failed bootfailed with some numbers and letters, then it goes to a small box titled boot menu with 4 options. These are
    HDD/SSD Toshiba MK6465GSX
    CD/DVD MAT****ABD-CMB UJ141ES
    FDD
    LAN
If I press ESC it goes through the bootfailed loop and ends up at same screen, if I press enter on "HDD/SSD Toshiba MK6465GSX" then it quickly comes back to screen and at the bottom it says [HDD/SSD Toshiba MK6465GSX] is failed.
I dont understand why it got worse over time. Can anyone think of why this has happend and more importantly how can I get my pc working again? Note: holding 0 then starting does nothing for me atm
    regards, Matthew

All you people looking here on this dead thread.....
Toshiba A660 laptops are renowned for having hard drive fails and boot up problems after grinding to a halt.
My solution (after losing 3 hard drives [and a terabyte of family treasured times]) is the following.
Use MALWAREBYTES (free download and use for 28 days)
Scan and fix. Mine found over 300 trojans that 2013 Norton 360 could not find.
    Re-boot into safe mode.
    SCAN again.
Re-boot and empty the malwarebytes repair files it retains...
Run Norton/McAfee (whichever you have) and you should still have no issues.
    Make a back-up repair disc. Ooooops......no you cant...........at least my laptop can`t.
    I don`t know why.....
Tell me tosh..... why does windows x64 refuse to allow me to make a system boot disc (even though the laptop is all driver updated and Windows updated)?
Uninstall MalwareBytes when Norton/McAfee tells you there will be a conflict between the two programs.
It tells you to re-boot after uninstalling it.
Then when it re-boots you get a black screen. You cannot even get to bios. You think ytour laptop is turned into a brick frisbee. You pull out the battery in frustration after five minutes.
You replace and re-boot....but again you get no bios or boot up.... you think its destroyed the Bios or graphics somehow....youo can hear the hard-drive but you have no clue whats going on..
Around this time you shake the laptop in frustration.....
    Calm down.
Switch on and leave FIFTEEN MINUTES....Ten of which will be a Black nothing screen with maybe a single white underscore line in the top left corner.LEAVE IT ALONE.
Make a sunday dinner for ten people....When you go back to the computer it will be up and running.
When you re-boot again, it will be dead black for five minutes...then boots up... you still think it has a problem... LEAVE IT.
When you reboot again it should work perfect (assuming you have not been overheating it by using it on a cushion on your lap and overheating the insides [use a laptop fan tray]) if you have not shaken your hard drive or caused scrambled damage by pulling the power fifty times like some people do.
I have lost three hard drives and thousands of Gigabytes of treasured family memories discovering the secret the hard way.
    Enjoy.
Buy a different brand next time.
ALL Windows system files should be on a SWITCHED (to update) version of Windows.
Spinning drives should be for Data only.

  • Windows 2000 boot problem

I have just moved my system to the new MX-6585 board - Did an Windows 2000 "upgrade" to initiate total hardware scan.
System works ok, when it has booted, but booting is sooo slow.
Found a Microsoft article describing the problem:
    SYMPTOMS
After you choose to start Windows from the Boot menu, you may experience a long delay (or pause) before your computer finishes starting. Note that this delay may range from 10 seconds to a minute. Also, this delay occurs before the Starting Windows progress bar appears, and your computer may appear to stop responding (hang) during this time.
    CAUSE
This behavior can occur if Windows is installed on a drive or a partition to which Windows cannot gain access with normal Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) INT-13 or INT-13 extension calls. When Windows Setup determines it cannot use BIOS calls to start, it uses scsi() or signature() syntax in the Boot.ini file instead of multi() syntax.
My question is: Does MX-6585/BIOS in any way hinder the INT-13 calls to my Adaptec 2940???

Thanks! I sent the following message:
There are no IDE devices in my system, only SCSI. My hd is an IBM Ultrastar 36XP DRHS-36D. When I start the system up, the SCSI & MSI BIOS screens display normally, then BOOT.INI appears. After I select one of my NT-type OS's (NT4, W2K, WXP), there is a 30-second delay between the time I press the Enter key at the BOOT.INI screen and the time the OS actually starts to boot. (The BOOT.INI countdown time is limited to 5 seconds. I am *not* talking about this time.)
Since the same hardware was transferred from another installation (with a non-MSI mb) in which the same Adaptec drivers were used but this 30-second delay did not occur, the delay appears to be due to the MSI BIOS. Interestingly, W98 is also installed on this hd and it appears in the BOOT.INI list. When I start up W98, the 30-second delay does not occur -- as soon as I press the Enter key, W98 starts to boot.
Other end users have complained about this same boot delay. See the post "Windows 2000 boot problem" found in the MSI user forum here: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/e_service/forum/viewindex.php?threadid=6970&boardid=10&page=1
I'd estimate our chances of success at 1%. Still, it's far better to complain and not be heard than never complain. That way, we get to complain even more.

  • GX623 Windows 7 boot problem

Hi guys, i recently have to reinstall OS on my laptop, and now i am facing "really long boot" problem, all drivers are correctly installed (at least i think so), i am fighting with this problem hole day, so i am pretty mad and tired right now, hope you can give me some advice
here is a boot trace picture hope it can share some light on this
i already reinstalled windows seven 3 times today, i tried to update bios to the latest version, even re-flash EC, all with no change :(
to describe this problem, bios post goes OK, no errors, all fast and smooth, as soon i see windows logo animating on my screen my HDD "stops" working (there is no hdd activity for a long period of time) well that can be seen on trace, and then after 90 seconds (at least trace shows that) it starts booting like before, system loads, and everything is working as it should

  • Re: Satellite A660 - Windows 7 update killed Tuner Driver

    I have the Satellite A660 type psaw3a-07T00R
The last Microsoft update stopped my internal TV tuner from working with MS media watch tv program thing.
I've tired removing then reinstalling Yuan DVB-T ATSC Tuner Drivers, but nothing works.
the internal USB unit keep coming up as a STK770D.
    Anyone have any ideas??
    Thank you

Its very strange that some MS update affected the TV tuner functionality.
    > The last Microsoft update stopped my internal TV tuner from working with MS media watch tv program thing.
Can you post some details? I mean do you see an error message or whats wrong exactly?
Generally you should be able to roll back system and the installed updates.
So in case this issue is related to the Windows update, the system roll back should fix it.
Of course its not really a solution because Windows system should be updated if updates are available but for the first time it should bring more light in this case.
By the way: how did you try to reinstall the driver? Did you uninstall the driver firstly in device manager?

  • Satellite A660 - Windows wont load - I cant recover

    I have a Toshiba Satellite A660 7U.
Last night it failed to boot.
I ran the Norton ghost start up cd and backed up most of the stuff I needed.
I also noticed C drive has become just 1.5gig and there was a extra drive!!!
I tried to run system restore using Toshibas start up factory restore settings. first it says not enough space in C drive then when I changed the settings to delete all partitions it was preparing for a long time the copying also for a long (10min) time then switched itself off.
Now what shall I do? Is my HDD gone?
I can see all my stuff when I use Norton ghost though. I copied most of the stuff in D drive. Possibility of a virus?
    william

Thanks guys. Yes i have made the DVDs.
Now what I did was format the whole drive 600gb using the 3rd party bootable drive. Then I started using recovery disks to restore. But almost every time the computer switches itself off for no reason while trying to copy the files. At times it switches off as soon as I push it on. Partition software was able to format the whole drive without any issue.
Could it be the partition tables that are messed up?- what i mainly dont understand is as to why the machines switches off abruptly. Could it be the MB or the RAM or failed HDD that switches off the computer.
Any ideas are more than welcome.
I was able to back most of the data to a external HDD. Does recovering to factory settings make HDDs go bad?
    null
I just noticed, as I try to copy the recovery DVDs contents the machines switches off again in 20 sec o so it tried to starts itself, then again it switches off the again it starts by itself, this is weird this goes on happening...

  • K8N Neo2 Windows XP Boot problems

I've recently built a new machine based on the K8N Neo 2  & Athlon 64 3500 and am having intermittant problems during boot  into Windows XP.
Basically the machine seems to hang just as it gets to the 'Windows XP' logo.  The screen looks blank, but if you look very carefully the logo is displayed very faintly.  I have tried connecting the startup disk to both SATA1 and SATA3 with the same results as at first I thought it may be some kind of driver problem.  I didn't have to install any SATA drivers during the XP install which surprised me.
I have also run Memtest86 on the two sticks of 512Mb PC3200 Geil Ram which seemed to test OK.
Once running the machine is stable, its just annoying that it may take 2 or 3 tries to get it up and running.
Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.
The full spec of the machine is as follows:
    K8N Neo 2
    Athlon 64 3500
    Geil Value PC3200 512Mb x2
Maxtor Diamond Max 9 80Gb (Boot Disk)
    Maxtor Diamond Max 10 200Gb
    Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600XT
    Andi

I will not install the nForce IDE drivers on the (I guess soon) reinstall. I've read that the PS/2 keyboard also could be the badguy in this weird boot problem but I cant understand why and how the keyboard could add time to the bootup sequence only sometimes, I guess that it has something to do with the XP keyboard driver ??..
Anyone with any other tips is welcome. Other than this weird problem my system runs perfect. MSI Core Center now tells me that my CPU temp is 45% (CPU speed 1004) (Downloading stuff but not doing anything else), CPU speed is according to XP 1.79Ghz and I use the Cool 'n' Quiet function, On what temp should I start to become alarmed and is there some way to setup something in the bios to shut down or warn me when and if the CPU gets to hot ?..
Thanks for helping a new   MSI user out

  • Satellite L305D-S5934 Boot Problems - HELP!

I'm sure this question has been asked, or I could find the information elsewhere, however, I'm neither computer savvy nor patient enough to look for this info. Therefore, I need some help with a problem on my Satellite L305D-S5934 laptop. When I "power-up" the unit, I get this Windows Boot Manager message:
Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer.
This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.
If you continue to recieve this erroe message, contact the hardware manufacturer.

Every time I get to this point, and then hit enter to continue, it acts like it might boot up, then it goes blank. I don't know a lot about computers. We've had this laptop for roughly 6-7 weeks now, and haven't had a problem. We've never used a portable storage device on it, ever, and it is used for nothing more than my wife on Facebook, and checking e-mail and IMDB while watching movies. Basically a play computer while watching TV. It worked fine until last Wednesday, then it just did this after shutting down one night. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!

  • Windows 7 boot problems after partitioning Mac Disc

    Hi
    I got a big Problem. I installed Windows 7 with Bootcamp. I have a 600Gb Mac Partition and a 150Gb Bootcamp Partition.
After Configuring Windows, I switched to the Mac OSX Snow Leopard System. I changed the Main Partition of 600Gb into 3 smaller ones. After this change I can't boot Windows 7 anymore. With the Option Key it doesn't show me the Bootcamp Partition. In the Sys. Preferences under Startup Disk it show me the Windows on Bootcamp Partition, but when I click restart, it shows me only the No System Disk Boot black screen.
I read a bit in the forum, but I haven't found the problem yet.
    Thx for your help
    NESTi

Your problem is quite clear and simple: you added and changed the parition numbers and table.
You want a linux style with a slice for swap, root, usr and data?
Use Mac's new Recovery - command d on startup.
Enable viewing hidden partitions in Disk Utility.
Use Windows DVD to fix and edit BCD
What you did is not supported. I know XP can't boot unless it is partition #4 or lower.
There is 200MB GPT, 128MB EFI, HFS+ 600GB would have been 3rd but GPT is zero, only now you have three where there was one.
Manage all partitions with Disk Utility in OS X
Check partition table health in Lion's Disk Utility
BCD for Windows 7 and Lion

  • Windows XP boot problems after latest BDM Installed

    Blackberry Desktop Manager 5.0.1
    Hi Everyone,
I installed Blackberry Desktop Manager on a Dell Laptop yesterday and after a reboot it took forever to boot into Windows XP SP3 and when it did the machine was completely unresponsive.
I eventually managed to get the Task Manager running and it turns out that the process called System was using 99% CPU constantly.
Safe Mode took 20 minutes to go into Windows and again windows was unresponsive to the point I was unable to open the Control Panel and uninstall BDM.
I tried Last Known Good Configuration to no avail and in the end I reinstalled the System from Scratch.
I couldn't be 100% sure it was the installation of BDM that caused the problem because Windows had installed some updates so I figured a clean install would be a wise move.
I clean installed XP and updated to SP2 and everything was working perfectly again this morning so I tried to install BDM again - same problem!!!
The system is in a state of unresponsiveness again and I am trying desperately to get into Safe Mode to uninstall BDM which will hopefully restore my PC to a working state.
Does anyone have any ideas I can try or has anyone else experienced this?
I am relatively new to the Blackberry world but I am competent with Windows XP and a manner of technical issues but this is something that is really causing me a headache.

I have had the same problem repeatedly since I first got the 'update avilable' message on my Dell xp sp3.
I've found that turning off communication speeds up the computer so that you can go to a restore point or remove the program through the windows add/remove facility.  On my machine (Inspiron 6000) it is fn and f2 keys together.
I did NOT have to rebuild my system.
And thank you - I was beginning to think it was me

  • Satellite A660-1GC PSAW3E rebooting problem

My brand new A660 jam when rebooting the computer.
After rebooting it jams in "TOSHIBA Leading Innovation" window, and doesnt react F2 or F12.
Closing with the power button and starting again, everything runs normally.

    Hi
Go to BIOS and set it to default settings.
BIOS can be entered pressing F2 while notebook booting.
After that try recovery the notebook to factory settings.
You can use the HDD recovery procedure.
HDD recovery can be started by pressing the F8 while powering the notebook.
Then choose repair my computer and then choose HDD recovery.
    Good luck

  • Yosemite and Bootcamp Windows 7 booting problem

    Hello all,
I upgraded to Yosemite from Mavericks from the App store on a MBP 2013 late which also had windows 7 installed on it using bootcamp.
I can boot into Yosemite and Windows 7 by going to start up disk and selecting the OS and then restarting but what I cannot do is use the option key to show me the boot disk options when I power on like how I used to do before the upgrade.
Is it the same for all, is there any work around or am I doing something wrong here ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Priyank.

What about booting into safe mode and then uninstalling the app?

  • Windows 7 boot problem on Satelite L300

    Hi all
I have a Satelite L300 which came with Vista and was upgraded to Windows 7 and has been working sucessfully. The otherday the laptop wouldnt bootup and and the screen offers two options boot from the recovery disk or boot normally.
The recovery disks I have are the Vista recovery disks which it want to format the hard drive. The Windows 7 disk boots up but again wants to install Windows 7.
I dont have a boot disk for Windows 7.
Can anyone suggest how I can resolve this issue with the boot sector? or advise if I reinstall Windows will it overwrite the program and data files or just the operating system?
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi flyal4,
Can you access the advanced boot menu of Windows? Maybe you can start Windows in safe mode
Windows 7 disk and boot disk for Windows 7 its the same. I think you got this message that you should start from Windows 7 and use the system repair function. This would be also worth a try ;)
