Satellite A665 -127 Upgrading to Windows 8

Hi!
I want, to upgrade my Toshiba Satellite A665-127 to Windows 8. Please tell me, are there any problems with drivers or front panel utility buttons like Volume up etc?

Hi
Did you check the Toshiba EU driver page for Win 8 driver availability?
I did I chosen the Satellite A665 series and did not find any Win 8 drivers.
So you will have to collect the drivers at your own hand!
This might be little bit annoying. But even if some drivers are not available for A665, you will be able to use Win 8

I've added an extra 4GB of memory to my Satellite A300D-15B (PSAKCE). When I try to run the Windows 7 64bit upgrade it fails with a blue screen.
Is it possible to upgrade this model to 64 bit Windows 7?

    Hi ronchennells,
Theoretically it should be possible to upgrade to Windows 7 64bit You can do/install everything what you want but the important point is drivers
On the official Toshiba website there are no Windows 7 64bit drivers but you can try the Vista 64bit drivers. Normally they are compatible
Generally speaking its not necessary to upgrade to 4GB RAM or more for using Windows 7 64bit. You can also use the 64bit version with 2GB only.
What happens if you start the upgrade with original memory module only?

  • Satellite A200-23P - Upgrade to Windows 7

Approximately 2 years ago I bought Toshiba notebook Satellite A200-23P with Windows Vista perinstalled. Now I want upgrade to Windows 7. I download Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, it wrote me that:
    1) More info from TOSHIBA TOSHIBA has a website that might give you more information about getting Windows 7 running on your PC. Visit the TOSHIBA website
(i haven't found any information on your web-site regarding updates issues)
And information about TOSHIBA software like: Disc Creator, DVD Player, Config Freeetc... that they "don't have compatibility information about this version of the program"
I want to know is it safe upgrade to Windows 7? Do i need to make some preparations or smth like that? Or is it better to just stay on Vista ).
    Thx.

In my opinion there should not be problem to use Win7 on this notebook model. As Jeka already wrote most Vista drivers can be used with Win7, if some Win7 drivers are missing.
Win7 runs well and pretty stabile so I think it would be good decision to use Win7 on your A200.
What do you want to do exactly: upgrade preinstalled Vista to Win7 or to install clean Win7?
In my opinion you should use Microsoft Win7 installation disc for clean Win7 installation.

  • Satellite P305-S8820 - Upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium

    Hi All,
If I purchase Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade Family Pack (3-User) (DVD-ROM), for my toshiba P305-S8820.
    1. Will I be able to perform a clean install by reformatting the disk?
    2. Is there a utility from Toshiba, that will go find all the drivers for Windows 7?
    3. Which drivers by Toshiba are required to be installed for Windows 7 to be successful?
    4. Is there a Bios update required for the machine to work on Windows 7?
    Thanks.
    Matt

Toshiba has a lot of useful info scattered across their sites. I suggest you read this [us.toshiba.com/windows7-upgrade/] about upgrade methods and follow the links off this [http://us.toshiba.com/windows7-upgrade/] to get specific information about required bios updates and the suitability of Toshiba Upgrade Assistant for Windows 7 software - +"The Toshiba Upgrade Assistant for Windows 7 is software that manages all of the details of the upgrade process from Windows Vista to Windows 7 on Toshiba laptops. The Toshiba Upgrade Assistant for Windows 7 automatically uninstalls driver and utility software that was preinstalled by Toshiba and needs to be removed from Windows Vista prior to upgrading to Windows 7, launches the Windows 7 installation Setup program, and then installs Toshiba software after the Windows 7 upgrade is completed. • Satellite A665-S5186 Driver Installation

I have a Satellite A665-S5186 that had Windows 7 64bit preinstalled.  I reinstalled a fresh copy of Windows 7 HP 64bit so that I could rid myself of all the presinstalled software easily and start with  afresh copy of Windows, no extra software.  I did this because I was having speed issues.
Now, I have done this on many desktops and laptops, for many years.  I have never had this problem, but, the drivers listed for Satellite A665-S5186 are not installing properly.  When I run the installer, it starts but then it never finishes.  It basically loads the installer package and then stops.  The only driver I can get installed is the System Driver.  Am I installing the wrong drivers or is there a trick, or systematic installation path?
I do not have recovery media, or a recovery partition and I do not plan on buying recovery media since this should be solvable without recovery media.
Any ideas on how to get these drivers to install properly?
Already tried safe mode, safe mode with driver signatures disabled and compatibility mode for XP SP2 and SP3.

    As a small update...
I was able to use WinRAR and extract each driver seperately, but I am still missing my LAN, Ethernet, Video, PCI Device and Unknown Device drivers.  I have no idea exactly which driver to install for these, but have tried many of the ones listed.  Maybe some insight into which drivers I need exactly would be nice too.  Then I could try the WinRAR method.
Thanks ahead of time for any replies!

  • Satellite A665-S6080 Shuts Down During Flash Videos

I have a Satellite A665-S6080 laptop with Windows 7 64x which I've had for 3 years now. For a year now it will shut down when I am using a video converter program ie: Leavino Video Converter, Win AVI All In One. I would take a video I have on my computer and try to convert it to another format and about 10 minutes in the converting stage, my laptop will just shut down. It doesn't matter what converting software I use, It will shut down. If the video is small (under 500 MB) I might not shut down. I've tried to convert 1.5 GB video and my laptop would shut down.  If I play flash videos online it might shut down as well. Also when I play Candy Crush online it has shut down as well.
I've heard people mention that the problem could be a bad power switch, however, my problem seems to be video related. Has anyone had this problem like mine? Any suggestions on fixing the problem? Thanks.
If any other info is needed please let me know.

See this post for flash player issue : http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Video-Display/Youtube-question-Try-to-run-full-screen-and-just-get-a-bl...
Video converting is very hardware intensive and your laptop can get to hot and shut down.
Do you use a cooling pad and does your vents and fan need cleaned? I ask that because you stated that it has only shut down for the last year and mainly when converting video files.(flash issue already noted above)

  • Satellite A665-S6050 Windows 7 Home Premium Memory Upgrade will not boot

Hope there might be a clue to assist.
Checked Toshiba support for recommended memory to upgrade from 2X2GB to 2X4GB.  Ordered Kingston KTT-S3BS/4G x 2 as recommended.  BIOS recognizes the memory, but Windows will not boot.  Tried Safe Mode and hangs after a few seconds.  Tried Repair Computer, also hangs after a few seconds.  Put original memory back in and it boots fine.  There was a brief flash of a blue screen once, but no dump file to be found.
To me it seems as ifthe issue is Windows, but I do not know enough about this to say definitively.  Just based on the percieved behavior when Windows trys to boot (hanging).
Any ideas appreciated before I go through return and try something else.
    Thanks.

  • Question about memory upgrade on Satellite A210-127

I upgraded my memory form 2Gb (2x1 Gb) to 4Gb (2x2 Gb) with two Kingston memory modules KVR667D2S5/2G (PC2-5300 CL5).
For two weeks there were no problems but then I got blue screen every time when system boots reffering to I guss memory error.
I tried to replace memory with original Toshiba's modules but blue screen remains. I have conctacted the service and they say that
it may be memory incompatibility, virus or hard disk malfunction.
After few days of working on the solution I reinstal my laptop with Toshiba DVD and replace original memory. Now everything works fine.
I wonder is Kingston memory cause of my problem or somethig else?
Does anyone know is Kingston memory KVR667D2S5/2G 2Gb compatibile with Toshiba?

I've got an answer forom Kingston Customer Service Specialist:
    Dear Mr. Sekovanic,
Thank you for your e-mail and for your interest in Kingston Technology.
Please note that the memory module with the part number KVR667D2S5-2G is a ValueRAM generic part, built to industry guidelines meeting the JEDEC standard. As they are not tested on any motherboard, we cannot guarantee compatibility of these modules with a specific system.
The branded memory module KTT667D2/2G is designed, manufactured and tested in a specific systems or system series, such as the Toshiba Satellite A210-127. Although the technical specifications are quite similar we do not recommend to use the ValueRAM module on a specific system as yours.
We trust that the above information will be of assistance to you. However, should you have further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.
    so it's not compatibille.

  • Satellite L300D BSOD after upgrading to Windows 7

I've had this laptop (Satellite L300D) for a bit more than a year with windows vista (32-bit) running and there have been no problems. However, i just recently upgraded to Windows 7 (x64) and have gotten problems since the first reboot.
On the first reboot after windows 7 installation, the computer simply turned off after the "Starting Windows" screen. Powering it up again took me to system repair where it performed a system restore and i was able to boot successfully again. I thought the problem had something to do with the automatic updates so i disabled them and tried to reboot to see if the problem was fixed. This time, after the "Starting Windows" screen i got a Fatal System Error BSOD. After multiple reboot attempts and multiple system repair attempts (which usually said it failed) it successfully booted up again.
This problem has been going for about 3 weeks now and it's quite irritating. The results from the system repair claims that a "Boot Critical File is Corrupt" but it does boot up eventually after multiple attempts to boot. It also has a habit of turning itself off randomly while running (happens about once or twice a day). So as of now, everytime i try to start my comp it either turns off after the startup screen or gives the BSOD and restarts and the only way to get it working seems to be to keep attempting to boot and hope for a successful boot up (this eventually happens after a few failed attempts).
I did a bit of research on this and came to [this|http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?modelFilter=L300D-ST3501&rpn=PSLC8U&category=&selCategory=3&moid=222 1251&os=&ct=DL&selFamily=1073768663] page. I think that's exactly what my problem is (need to update BIOS) but as i understand the windows install for that is only for xp/2000/vista and i'm unable to use the second option of booting from disc as i get the BSOD before it gets to that point. Should i try the windows install option even though i'm running windows 7 or is there some other way to update the BIOS? Or am i completely off and the problem is with something else?
I wasn't sure what information i should add to this post so if any further information is required please let me know.
    Thanks in advance
Edit: Oops, just realised the page i linked doesn't link to exactly what i had opened. I'm talking about the "Critical BIOS updates for 64-bit Windows 7" under "Support Bulletin"

    Hi
First of all it would be interesting to know which BSOD code you get exactly. Can you post this useful information? Normally on the Microsoft Knowledge Base you can find additional informations about the most BSOD codes and so you can start to fix this issue.
BSOD are often related to drivers or RAM/HDD. Latter you can check with special diagnostic tools, Memtest86 for RAM and Drive Fitness Test for HDD. Both tools are freeware and you can find it by using Google. You can download an iso image of them to create a bootable media where you can start the test.
Regarding your BIOS update: I dont know which L300D you have exactly but according the Toshiba website it shows a BIOS update also for Windows 7 64bit. You can try to install it.

  • Satellite Pro L - Upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 possible?

Does anyone know if the Satellite Pro Recovery disc (Vista) qualifies as a basis for upgrading to Windows 7 using a Microsoft Upgrade Edition disc? Or is the full retail new version needed?

    Hi seoras,
I dont see a reason why it should be not possible...
I mean if you install Vista from Toshiba recovery disk its the same Vista as from a Microsoft disk but with all drivers and tools from Toshiba.
So just buy a Windows 7 upgrade disk that is cheaper as a full version and start the upgrade. Thats all!
If you need new drivers after Windows 7 installation, just check the Toshiba website. On this page you can find all downloads for your notebook.

  • Satellite L300 - Can't upgrade to Windows 7

Attempted to upgrade my Satellite L300 laptop (running Office Home and Student 2007) and got as far as the final Driver installation "Realtek High definition Audio Driver 6.0.1.5904" at which point the upgrade froze, so I could not progress to inserting the Windows 7 Home Premium DVD. I managed to reboot after some difficulty and then Restored my system to the pre-upgrade point.
When I now insert the Toshiba Upgrade DVD, I am confronted with the screen relating only to the Realtek driver upgrade.
Any suggestions how to get passed this hurdle. My computer is still functioning on Vista

    Hi
Have you already tried to update the sound driver yourself? Please try to download and install the latest Realtek driver from the Realtek Homepage. Install the new driver and reboot the notebook. Now you can try to upgrade again.
Otherwise follow the instructions posted by Akuma.
But I must say sometimes the drivers must be update before you can upgrade to Windows 7 and by the way, maybe this is useful for you:

  • Satellite U500-11G - Can't activate upgrade to Windows 7

Really sorry about this, but with new Satellite U500-11G cannot activate the upgrade to Windows 7. Keep being told on entering serial number that it was origonally installed with Vista, but no info on how to activate.
    Any help out there please?

    Hi
Have you used a Microsoft disk to upgrade to Windows 7? As MisterX wrote normally the preinstalled OS is always activated and I can confirm this. I never had to activate my copy of Windows.
If you use the Windows 7 upgrade kit from Toshiba you dont have to activate your version.

  • Satellite A500 - Missing programs after upgrade to Windows 7

    Hi,
    I have Satellite A500 - 134,
When I was upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7, I had to remove some programs as the upgrade advisor mentioned.
Now I miss those programs after installing Windows 7:
    # Toshiba Tempro
    # Toshiba ConfigFree
    # Toshiba Disc Creator
Also, "FN" button doesn't work anymore (it was working on Vista), so I can't activate any feature when I press FN + (some F# buttons like F2).
So, what can I do about this?

    Hi
Did you use the Windows 7 upgrade kit from Toshiba? This kit contains also an Utilities that must be used to due installation process and as mentioned in manual.
Anyway, you can get the tools on the Toshiba page now:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
For the FN buttons you have to install Toshiba Value Added Package.
