  • Satellite A665-S6050 Windows 7 Home Premium Memory Upgrade will not boot

Hope there might be a clue to assist.
Checked Toshiba support for recommended memory to upgrade from 2X2GB to 2X4GB.  Ordered Kingston KTT-S3BS/4G x 2 as recommended.  BIOS recognizes the memory, but Windows will not boot.  Tried Safe Mode and hangs after a few seconds.  Tried Repair Computer, also hangs after a few seconds.  Put original memory back in and it boots fine.  There was a brief flash of a blue screen once, but no dump file to be found.
To me it seems as ifthe issue is Windows, but I do not know enough about this to say definitively.  Just based on the percieved behavior when Windows trys to boot (hanging).
Any ideas appreciated before I go through return and try something else.
    Thanks.

Yes he did. But he ordered the Kingston memory that Toshiba recommended as he said...

I'm suggesting that he try the Toshiba part number (PA3677U-1M4G) suggested in the spec, which is made by Axiom.

    I reformatted my hard drive..
No idea what you mean by that.
Did you restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media?
Did you use a new hard drive?

  • Satellite A665-S6050 Leveling Problems

I just bought a new Toshiba A665-S6050 laptop on Wednesday. On the back, there is this "thing" that is lifting up the back of the laptop so it is slanted. I'm wanting to know how to remove it so I can make the laptop level. I know there is a way to remove it because I have seen pictures of this laptop without the certain part that I'm wanting to remove. Does anyone know how to remove it?

Not 100 percent sure but I think that is the extended battery.
You can remove the battery and run it off AC and that would do it for you or you can possible purchase a standard battery.
Check to see that it is the battery, you can remove it.  There is a lock and a release lever.
    Good luck,

  • Satellite A665-S6094 BIOS Instability with 4GB of RAM

I recently upgraded the RAM in my Sattelite A665-S6094 laptop to 8GB, and I was cheerfully greeted with frequent memory-related bluescreens and an inability to use the sleep function.
The laptop works perfectly with the original 2x 2Gb modules installed, but problems show up if I add any more.
When trying to wake the computer from sleep, it gets to the login screen and promptly shuts down as if I pulled the power. This crash is not logged in the system anywhere.
While in Windows, I periodically get a stop error classified as "MEMORY_MANAGEMENT" with no apparent direct cause.
These problems only exist when the installed RAM exceeds the original 4GB size.
I am running the most recent BIOS revision; version 2.20.

    Hi sanremo,
I saw the document you suggest and I think it was quite useful. I realized that my processor, my chipset and the system supports 64-bit edition of Windows, so I think I will try to install it. I would like to try Windows XP Pro 64-bit and not Vista, but Toshiba do not supply drivers for XP 64-bit. They have available XP 32-bit and Vista 32-bit & 64-bit. So I will try the Vista Business 64-bit.
Thanks a lot both for your replies.

Yesterday I had a problem with my computer shutting off in the middle of working.  I knew that the battery needed replacing so I had that replaced today.  It still shuts off in the middle of working on something.   Also, the blue wait circle is constantly spinning and blinking on and off.  I can get on the internet and work but it is still spinning and blinking.  Also, the bottom of the computer gets very hot but it always has gotten hot to a certain degree.  I have the laptop sitting on a table top.

Hi! "Also, the blue wait circle is constantly spinning and blinking on and off". That means some thing is trying to load.
"Also, the bottom of the computer gets very hot but it always has gotten hot to a certain degree." How hot is very hot?? Have you ever cleaned the vents?? Here's a free program I use!

  • TOSHIBA A665-S6050 BIOS UPDATE FAILURE - RECOVERY OR REPAIR ANYONE?

I was trying to update my BIOS to a newer release and when completed I was rebooting the PC I opened the disk drive and never noticed that the update was been done again from the CD. Now I cannot startup not even light in the screen or anything. How can I recover or repair?
    Please and Thanks

Unfortunately, it sounds like it would need to be professionally serviced. You could try removing the drive and connecting it to another computer to retrieve the data.

As soon as I bought my new laptop, I've noticed the sound will crackle, even when muted. I've already updated the drivers and tried changing the sound qualitiy but none of that seems to work. Does anyone have any ideas?

Does this happen with headphones as well?
    Try reinstalling the driver.

Has it always been like this, or did it just start happening?

  • Satellite A665-s6050 Will Not Attempt To Boot

Hello all, hoping I can get some help here with my old Toshiba. Ive had the laptop for about 5 years, it came with Windows 7 which was rather new at the time, and about two years ago I had a hard drive failure. I swapped in a drive from my old Gateway, I think a Seagate, and started running Ubuntu. Ive replaced the power cord once, and the battery only lasts about 20 minutes anymore, but other than that, the machine has been fairly reliable.
Until yesterday, that is. I opened the lid, hit the power button to wake it from sleep, and I saw the light and heard the drive start to spin. Then everything stopped and the lights went out. When I hit the power button nothing happens, holding it is no different.
I have done a little searching, and I see there are alot of problems with boot failure in these models, but most people seem to have machines that attempt to boot. Now I have the little blue lights for power cord and battery, but nothing else, so I dont think it is a battery or cord problem. Ive tried the 30 second power button hold with no power or battery attached, but it didnt make a difference. Im not sure where to go from here with trouble shooting.
It seems to me that there is a mother board failure, but im not sure how to  diagnose. I would like to repair the computer, rather than spend alot of money on a new one with that crappy windows 8. Ive built a number of laptops in the past, including a frankenstein Panasonic Toughbook, so I feel capable of making any repairs, I'm just not sure where to go with this problem.
Thanks in advance for any advice guys.

sorry to hear your having issues.  could be hardware; could be software.  Best way to figure out which is process of ellimination.  You have already done a power reset.  another thing to try is remounting ram and hdd.  make sure you drain all power from board before touching those by removing battery and power cord, then holding power button down for 30 sec.
could also be that computer is going into shutdown to protect itself from overheating if there is something wrong with the cooling system.  take a look under the bottom of the computer and the side where the fan inlet/outlet are and see if there is visible dirt, etc. present.  If your fan has never been cleaned, this would be a good time to do it.  It is a bit time consuming, but not difficult.  You will have to take your case apart, but just keep track where everything goes and you should be fine.  clean the fan and heat sink, and while you have it apart, inspect for any signs of damage such as blown caps, etc.  (i.e., scorch marks, burt smell).  can of compressed air and cotton swaps w/rubbing alcohol will do the trick.  You might as well as reseat the heatsink since you have it all apart anyway.  you can get AS-5 at Rat Shack and you tube will show you how to apply.  before you put back together, locate the cmos batery (button cell) and remove it for at least 30 seconds, then reinstall.  button it up and see what happens.
You should first pull the hdd and connect it to a working computer and copy any/all information you want to keep safe.  While your at it, you can run diagnostics on the hdd and see how its health is.  not likely why your computer isn't even posting but worth checking out anyway.
    post back results.

  • MY TOSHIBA SATELITE A665 - S6050 IS DRIVING ME NUTS! PLEASE REPLY

THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IM POSTING THIS. PLEASE REPLY . Hi I am a very frustrated 16 year old boy on the verge of pullling out my hair. this is my problem. My grandpa bought this patop last year march , he passed it down to me in may cause hes not much of a tech person, now ever since he gave me this laptop i noticed problems. in the beginning, anytime you move the laptop slighty or pick it up , if theres any audio activity going on , it will stuttter in sync with the vibration of the laptop. i thought it was the harman kardon speakers but till today im still unsure. then came the problem of my ear jack slowly starting to give up . no ear phone plug or headset plug was able to fit in fully and play complete audio, it would only play quarter or halfway in.but i overlooked these problems cause i had a usb speaker and hey, it was a heck of a laptop , then during summer when i travelled to england , the battery pack just all of a sudden got spoiled and it could "no longer hold a full charge" it could only last for little over an hour thirty minutes.so i bought a new battery pack. no problem uh? lets go on . i had a few games on my previous acer aspire one a0522 and since this new laptop had a core i3 processor that prettty much packed a punch i installed most of the games here cause i am a game freak. the games were : fifa 11 , 13 , 14 , pes 2009 2012 2013 2014 , tom clancy's splinter cell conviction , nfs : carbon , hot pursuit , need for speed both new and old ones , call of duty 4 mw , call of duty black ops II , battle field 2142 battlefield 2 , cod mw 2 burnout etc . all the games were running fine varying from low - high quality settings because of the limited vram 64 mb on the intel hd 3000. i also had photoshops cs5 and 6 . now when i resumed school  everything was how it was, sound stuttering ear jack failing , now a new problem arose , whenever the computer gets a slight hit/bang to thr body , the screen goes black and it would either turn off or restart . i didnt understand this so i decided to remove some startups from ms config and all , i left the important things though like the windows 7 common user bla bla things , and the intel start up drivers as well as the realtek hd audio manager . eventually the problem got worse , when i was using it at times the computer would randomly just shutdown and sometimes it would not come on for hours to almost a day (whever i put it on the screen is just black and the hdd light does not light up) and sometimes it will come on immediately i press the power button . so i was obviously frustrated but managing with the laptop . so eventually the problem got so bad that whenever the computer started up and i ran a program , immediately the fan kicked into full speed , 5 seconds after the thing would just go off on its own , regardless of what program it was , i finally had enough and took it in for repairs . they serviced it and brought it back , everything was fine for one week then the problem started again , everything came back . so this time i went with the laptop for repairs myself and they told me the cpu was the problem that it needed replacement , another shop told me it was the cpu mother board and fan that had problems . so i dont know who to believe. BUT HERE IS A PECULIAR THING. when  i run the laptop on one core (disabled multi core processing in bios) of course the cpu isnt running at full capacity but on that one core it runs for hours fine without shutting down , but it makes some games slow cause not all cores are in use .so i decided to re enable multi core processing and did this : whenever i start a program i immediately go into my task manager and set the affinity of any running programs to one core only (usually cpu 0 in windows 7) then set the affinity of the program i just launched myself to either cpu's 1 ,2 or 3 NOW THIS PROCESS IS WORKING FOR ME SO FAR but i dont know how long it would last and when i run games like fifa 13 o=with this process it plays fine but sometimes it quits in match and there is constant audio lag , but most other games run fine . i downloaded hot cpu tester pro and did the ram test , everything was fine , benchmark test , everything up to standards , but when i did the cpu test (where the test utilises the cpu to a 100% and i know it does cause i can see the cpu usage in the status bar in tassk manger) when the test goes into 15 seconds the laptop goes off again like it used to . so my conclusion is my cpu is the problem but i am still not sure so i am posting this . please help guys. thanks i have done the full system recovery process 3 times but all the problems remain. i am in africa and have limited resources please help.

  • Using an external optical DVD drive with A665-S6050

I recently purchased a refurbished Satellite A665-S6050; everything about it is nice and working fine. The one and only problem I'm having is trying to transfer (burn) images from a memory card reader directly to an external DVD drive, without having to first transfer images to a new folder on the desktop. Sending the image file directly to the internal optical drive from the memory card reader works fine, no problem, but for some reason the transfer to the external always fails. The process stalls and never completes.
I need to use an external DVD optical drive to save the internal from wear and tear, and potential damage due to excessive usage over time; I burn 20 to 30 discs a day. Cheaper to replace an external drive than the one built into the notebook. Several conversations with tech support failed to get the issue resolved. Finally it was suggested that I send it in for repair, where it is right now. Hopefully I'll get it back soon with the issue fixed.
I'm curious, has anyone come across this issue before? What was done to get it working properly? Thanks for your feedback. I'm planning on getting another Toshiba, and want to know just in case this issue pops up again so I can correct what may be a simple resolution as adjusting a setting.

I have not run into this problem yet however I do know if you use your computers RAM to do this and then x-fer yourimages onto your drive, from thecomputer you are utilizing, that it is much faster.

  • Satellite A665 Recovery? Big Mistake

Did a recovery using the recovery disk that came with my Desk Top.
Have had the Laptop for like 3+ years and can't seem to find a recovery disc for the Laptop, Not ever sure one came with it.
So right now I have my laptop all messed up with the wrong system disc.
Did my laptop come with a recovery disc? If not what can I do to get my Desktop off the Laptop?  It is working okay but not sure that I am not giving up performance this way.  Desktop is like 5 years old I think

  • A665-S6050 OS "repair" Now have a "not genuine" problem & a worn COA

Maybe someone can help here. Apparently I did something the non-Toshiba way and it has me in a pickle.
I was helping a friend with his computer, due to a failing battery his windows became corrupted. Shutdown issues, missing files etc. I used a retail version of  Win 7 (same product as original) to do an "upgrade install". This will repair the windows installation with out LOSING all your data and programs. I used a program to retrieve the s/n's etc before doing the install.
Worked like a charm except that the "windows is not genuine" is triggered. Now here is where it turns south - The s/n info retrieved does not match what I can read on the COA. To add fuel to the problem some of the COA is unreadable. Phone activation with Microsoft can't happen w/o it.
Is there anyone @ Toshiba that can help me with the COA number?

    So you did this?
How to Do a Repair Install to Fix Windows 7
If you did indeed use Windows Home Premium to do the repair, then you are entitled to activate it. Nobody at Toshiba can help. If you explain the situation to Microsoft, they should issue an activation code.
In the Start/Search box type slui 4 and press Enter. Select your Country from the list and then choose the Phone Activation option by calling the number. Stay on the phone (do not select or press any options) and simply wait for a person to help you with activation. Explain your problem clearly to the support person.
If that person does not cooperate, call again. I have done this twice myself.

  • Actual dimensions for Toshiba - Satellite Laptop A665-S6050?

    Good Morning Everyone,
    I recently purchased the Toshiba - Satellite Laptop / Intel® Core™ i3 Processor / 16" Display / 4GB Memory / 500GB Hard Drive - Slate Model: A665-S6050 | SKU: 9988697.
I would like to purchase a sleeve for this laptop, but I can't find the true dimensions online.  I don't have the laptop with me, so I can't just measure it.  The specs I'm finding online list the width as 4.2 inches.  Clearly, this is an error.
If anyone has the actual length, width, and thickness of this laptop, please reply.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Cannot update BIOS on Satellite A665

    Hi
I desperately need help with updating my BIOS on Satellite A665 as my battery is not charging and the site says for me to update BIOS but it is not letting me update saying battery is less than 10%.
Please someone help me as I have no way of using the laptop without AC power always present.

    Hi
What is your current battery level?
I think the BIOS update will prevent updating if the battery level is too low - this is a security feature.
In case your battery will not charge please try to disconnect it wait a second or two. Then connect it again.
    Still the same?
If so please let us know which BIOS version is in your system today.
    Thanks
    Tom
