Satellite A665-s6050 Will Not Attempt To Boot

Hello all, hoping I can get some help here with my old Toshiba. Ive had the laptop for about 5 years, it came with Windows 7 which was rather new at the time, and about two years ago I had a hard drive failure. I swapped in a drive from my old Gateway, I think a Seagate, and started running Ubuntu. Ive replaced the power cord once, and the battery only lasts about 20 minutes anymore, but other than that, the machine has been fairly reliable.
Until yesterday, that is. I opened the lid, hit the power button to wake it from sleep, and I saw the light and heard the drive start to spin. Then everything stopped and the lights went out. When I hit the power button nothing happens, holding it is no different.
I have done a little searching, and I see there are alot of problems with boot failure in these models, but most people seem to have machines that attempt to boot. Now I have the little blue lights for power cord and battery, but nothing else, so I dont think it is a battery or cord problem. Ive tried the 30 second power button hold with no power or battery attached, but it didnt make a difference. Im not sure where to go from here with trouble shooting.
It seems to me that there is a mother board failure, but im not sure how to  diagnose. I would like to repair the computer, rather than spend alot of money on a new one with that crappy windows 8. Ive built a number of laptops in the past, including a frankenstein Panasonic Toughbook, so I feel capable of making any repairs, I'm just not sure where to go with this problem.
Thanks in advance for any advice guys.

sorry to hear your having issues.  could be hardware; could be software.  Best way to figure out which is process of ellimination.  You have already done a power reset.  another thing to try is remounting ram and hdd.  make sure you drain all power from board before touching those by removing battery and power cord, then holding power button down for 30 sec.
could also be that computer is going into shutdown to protect itself from overheating if there is something wrong with the cooling system.  take a look under the bottom of the computer and the side where the fan inlet/outlet are and see if there is visible dirt, etc. present.  If your fan has never been cleaned, this would be a good time to do it.  It is a bit time consuming, but not difficult.  You will have to take your case apart, but just keep track where everything goes and you should be fine.  clean the fan and heat sink, and while you have it apart, inspect for any signs of damage such as blown caps, etc.  (i.e., scorch marks, burt smell).  can of compressed air and cotton swaps w/rubbing alcohol will do the trick.  You might as well as reseat the heatsink since you have it all apart anyway.  you can get AS-5 at Rat Shack and you tube will show you how to apply.  before you put back together, locate the cmos batery (button cell) and remove it for at least 30 seconds, then reinstall.  button it up and see what happens.
You should first pull the hdd and connect it to a working computer and copy any/all information you want to keep safe.  While your at it, you can run diagnostics on the hdd and see how its health is.  not likely why your computer isn't even posting but worth checking out anyway.
post back results.

  • Satellite A665-S6050 Windows 7 Home Premium Memory Upgrade will not boot

Hope there might be a clue to assist.
Checked Toshiba support for recommended memory to upgrade from 2X2GB to 2X4GB.  Ordered Kingston KTT-S3BS/4G x 2 as recommended.  BIOS recognizes the memory, but Windows will not boot.  Tried Safe Mode and hangs after a few seconds.  Tried Repair Computer, also hangs after a few seconds.  Put original memory back in and it boots fine.  There was a brief flash of a blue screen once, but no dump file to be found.
To me it seems as ifthe issue is Windows, but I do not know enough about this to say definitively.  Just based on the percieved behavior when Windows trys to boot (hanging).
Any ideas appreciated before I go through return and try something else.
    Thanks.

Yes he did. But he ordered the Kingston memory that Toshiba recommended as he said...

I'm suggesting that he try the Toshiba part number (PA3677U-1M4G) suggested in the spec, which is made by Axiom.

  • USB mouse will not initialise on boot-up when used via Dynadock on Satellite Pro U200

The USB mouse will not initialize on boot-up when used via Dynadock on Satellite Pro U200. If the mouse is reseated on the Dynadock it works fine. I am using a Kensington Valuoptical USB mouse. I have tried alternative kensington mouse and had the same problem. Can anyone advise how to resolve this issue?

    Hi Jeremy
Unfortunately I have no solution for your issue but it can also be some technical limitation. I am also interesting to buy such docking station and I would like to know if there is the same problem with external HDD or USB memory sticks.

  • My MacBookPro (mid 2012) will not complete the boot process. Yosemite's progress widget gets about 1/3 to 1/2 way across when the logo disappears and the screen goes all white for 10-15 secs or so, then the machine shuts down and restarts.

My MacBookPro (mid 2012) will not complete the boot process. Yosemite's progress widget gets about 1/3 to 1/2 way across when the logo disappears and the screen goes all white for 10-15 secs, then the machine shuts down and restarts. This sequence will repeat seemingly forever unless I shut it down manually.
I upgraded to Yosemite from Mountain Lion a couple months ago, skipping Maverick completely, and I've done any associated updates that Apple told me about. I don't recall which version of Yosemite I have, but I'm sure it is the "latest and greatest".
I've tried re-starting in Safe Mode / Safe Boot and that does the same thing as described above except without the endless restarts. Instead of restarting at some point, SafeBoot proceeds to the white screen and then it hangs until I restart it manually. (I've waited as long os 20-30 minutes with no response).
When I tried the option-command-p-r key combo I never get any chimes or other noises besides the original 1 time boot sound that you would expect to get when starting up a macbook pro.
I was using the mac quite normally (meaning I was doing work I normally do on it and there was no indication of anything wrong) immediately prior to this happening.
The machine is BootCamp(ed) with Windows 8.1 which I use from a VMWare virtual machine instead of natively so that I can have both OSes running at the same time. I also think this is unrelated to my problem. I have been using this setup for more than 2 years.
My upgrade to Yosemite was uneventful and I thought it went well and was very smooth. I don't want to lead attention away from Yosemite, but at this point my problem does not seem related to the upgrade.
    Any help is appreciated.

Install or Reinstall OS X from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Satellite Pro 4340DVD will not boot up - pci.sys missing or corrupt

    I bought a Toshiba Laptop Satellite Pro 4340DVD Model # PS434C-3N152, Serial # Y0018185J, off E-Bay.
The original operating system, Win 98SE has been upgraded to Win XP Pro. No disks came with the laptop.
The laptop crashed yesterday while I was online and will not boot-up.
    _Error message reads:_
+The following file is missing or corrupt: System32\DRIVERS\pci.sys.+
Any suggestions on how to rectify this problem will be deeply appreciated. I would very much like to have a users manual for this unit but haven't been able to find one.
    Thanks!
    Sam

Turns out that the dirty dawg was Anti-Virus 2009 that caused the problem. Managed to get laptop to boot up in "safe mode," found the dirty dawg, deleted it, and the laptop booted right back up.
    This issue is resolved!

  • Satellite Pro M10 will not boot again and comes up with the error message

My Toshiba Satellite Pro M10 notebook will not boot again and comes up with the error message "load error" when I push the power button.
The problem arised after installation of "symantec system works" and trying to restart windows XP professional to make the installed program executable.
What can I do to get the notbook restart again?

    Hi everyone
If you cannot acces to the boot menu by pressing F8 you can try to recover the the master boot record from Windows Xp professional installation Cd, to do this:
Attention: don't run these commands if you have more than one operating systems running in your laptop.
Boot from Windows Xp installation cd
Choose repair installation from console by pressing "C" key.
A console will open asking you for administrator password, insert the password and press enter.
Run de command: FIXMBR (It will write a new boot record)
Run de command: FIXBOOT (It will write a new boot file)
Restart the laptop and now windows should start without problems.

  • Satellite Pro L300 will not boot after Bios update

    Help please.
I have just formated a Satellite Pro L300 laptop.
I used all the updated drivers from Toshiba and all went very well.
I then updated the bios with the latest version.
After doing this the laptop will not boot but just keeps scrolling through the start menu and no matter what option I choose it just keeps doing the same thing.
    Any ides welcome

    Hi
I used the Microsoft installation disk but just keep getting to the same stage until the blue screen appears. I have tried different installation disks and also changed the hard drives as well. I can do everything in bios, change boot device enable or disable devices but that is it. I have tried a few times to instal windows but it just stops at the same point saying windows is stopping instal to protect the system. I fear the bios update has done some permanent damage as I cant get past the dreaded blue screen. Thanks anyway

  • Satellite 3000-X4 will not boot up

The machine will not boot up even in safe mode. Is this an indication that my hard drive has failed?

    Hi Susan,
when you try to boot your Sat3000, does the Toshiba logo appear?
If yes, what comes then? Only a black screen with an error message or the Windows loading logo?
    When the system chrashes exactly?
When yo want to check if your HDD is failed, create a bootdisk from www.bootdisk.info , start the Disk with a USB Floppy and try to access your HDD with typing "c:" and press enter
If you have access you can start scandisk. This tool analyses your HDD!

  • Satellite Pro A120 will not boot up

    Sorry for bad English!
    My computer will not boot.
I want to install a BIOS but connecting it to another computer but I dont know how?

In my opinion its not a faulty BIOS but I think the virus on your notebook caused this issue.
    The error message says everything:
+Malicious program will access to the read memory+
    +problems on bios+
If you are not able to boot up the notebook, neither from the Recovery CD, bootable CD (XP, Linux) nor from HDD then its a serious issue and you should definitely contact the ASP in your country.
If you are a lucky man then the ASP technician would be able to flash the BIOS ROM using a special procedure and the notebook should function again.
    Bye

  • Re: Satellite T110-107 will not boot into recovery option screen using f8 key.

I have tried numerous times and can't get the system recovery option by intermittently hitting the *f8 key during startup* like it says in the manual, it just goes straight into Windows. I just installed the latest BIOS but that didn't help either. I have no disks for recovery but I would like to get the f8 issue solved anyway. Everything else works perfectly. Thanks.

    Hi
Maybe you didnt press the F8 in the right manner
You have to press F8 immediately after the notebook has been powered up!!!
Press it several times to be 100% sure
If this will not function, create the recovery disk!!! This should be done at first before doing anything with the notebook!!!!
The recovery disk is always important and helpful if something would go wrong with the HDD!!!
After creating the recovery disk use this disk in order to set the notebook back to the same state like at the first day of purchase

    Unit:
2007 iMac with OS X  ... unknown version
    Problem:
Will not boot. Upon pressing power button it attempts to go through startup procedure then grey-screen and error message (You Need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button until it turns off, then press the power button again.)
I have come to understand this is called a "Kernel Panic"
I have been researching this issue all day. I cannot get it to safe boot by pressing the shift key. It does pull a progress bar but ultimately fails and returns to the kernel panic.
I have attempted to start from the CD to attempt utility disk, but I cannot get it to boot from CD. I have held the C key down. I have pressed it repeatedly. I have used it in combination with the alt/control/command keys. All have failed.
If anyone has any idea what might can be done I thank you in advance for your assistance.

  • Toshiba Satellite A305-S6872 Will not start up

I have the above mentioned computer and it is 2 years old. Last year in January the hard drive crashed and had to have new one installed at Best Buy. Now it will not start up. When I turn it on the Toshiba screen displays with F2 and F12 options. Then the creen goes black and the following displays:
    Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 082)
    Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation
    For realtek RTL8101E/8102E PCI-E Ethernet Controller v1.07 (080320)
PXE-E61: <edia test failure, check cable
    PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE ROM
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key
I insert the recovery CD and it says windows loading files then has a screen that says Selecting a Process: Toshiba Recovery Wizard or System Recovery Options. I choose System Recover Options and then choose English language and US keyboard layout. Then the following screen comes up: Select an operating system to repair .... If you do not see your operating system listed click Load Drivers to load drivers for your hard disks. When I choose Load Drivers I do not know where to find the OS driver. When I click Next and choose Startup Repair it says it is unable to fix the problem automatically.
I don't want to choose Toshiba recover Wizard because it says it will erase everything. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

The exact same thing happened to me yesterday Feb 5!!!
During normal use of windows 7 the computer crashed and went through the same boot procedure as described by the previous poster.
Now I can't do anything with my hard drive. I tired everything. I even tried restoring it from the backup image that I have, but it said that it cannot find hard drive!
I do not have Toshiba Recovery. Can I download it from somewhere?
Does anyone have any suggestions? After booting from Win 7 Recovery Disk, I even tried fixing the MBR and partitions, but I would always get an error message that the system doesn't support the software I tried using (guessing because it's 64bit?)
Please, any suggestion is most welcome and appreciated!!!
    Thanks,
    Djape

    Hi....
Laptop belongs to my wife and this morning I am told that it will not start up.
Problem is .... Begins to start and shows symptoms of previous post by tommy1980murf.
Quick flash of a blue screen with text, then moves onto options for Safe Start, Safe network start ...etc...
No matter which optoin is chosen the laptop goes through the process bringing up the Windows XP logo then abruptly shuts down almost like a reboot. Process automatically starts over again and again.
Options on immediate power up are F2 and F12.
Does anyone have any advice to offer?
Thanks in advance for your help ...Andy

WIll it boot into Safe Mode?  If so right click on the My Computer Icon and select Properties.  Click on the Advanced Tab, then the Setting sbutton by Startup and Recovery.  Now make sure that the Automatically Restart checkbox is NOT checked then OK your way out.  Now when the blue screen appears the system will stop giving you a chance to read it and tell us EXACTLY what it says.  Not something like, EXACTLY WORD FOR WORD.  The lines you will be needing to post will be the ones in this picture http://www.pcstats.com/articleimages/200409/BSOD_2.gif that state:
STOP: and a string of NUMBERS (they are zeros not letter O's)
    and the
    Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL line.
Also look to see if they list any specific driver, file, or program.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.
