Satellite C50-A-1CK double characters appear when typing

I have a brand new Satellite C50-A-1CK which is perfect for my needs EXCEPT I continually get double characters appearing on screen when typing which is:
A. VERY frustrating
B. Wasting a lot of time as I have to keep correcting words to remove the duplicate characters.
Please does anyone know of a fix for this? It can affect any key on the keyboard and it doesn't matter if I type slow or quick, press the keys firmly or as light as possible.
Have checked for firmware updates but none available.

The Touchpad issue you have I mayy be able to help with....
It sounds like you have the "Enable Edge Swipes" set on. This will bring up Windows 8 menu on the right hand side of the screen when ever you swipe from the right hand side of the keypad towards the middle.
Yours is a different model to mine but assuming the setting is in the same place then:
open Control Panel
Open Hardware and Sound
Under Devices and printers click "Mouse"
In the "mouse properties" window click on Device Settings
Highlight the touchpad and click the "settings" button below it
De-select "Enable Edge Swipes"

Random wrong characters appear when typing in Firefox--why?

While typing in Firefox, random wrong characters appear (e.g. I type "i" and "n" appears). If I go back and retype it, the same wrong character may appear two or three times, then the correct character appears. This happens while using gmail, but also, for example, when entering search terms into Yahoo. It does not happen while using other browsers such as Chrome, and it does not happen using other applications.

This would indicate you have activated the feature which turns the right side of the keyboard into a numerical keypad. It might be Fn-F6 that controls this -- sorry I don't have a notebook and am not sure exactly how this works.

I was using safari on a power book (G4, processor 1.67 ghz, tiger 10.4.7) earlier today to try to download (unsuccessfully) some game demos, Myst IV and Myst V from macgames. Safari was terribly slow. It also crashed frequently and when I got on this discussion page to ask about this, as I was typing my concerns, the wrong type characters kept appearing--I would type the letter i and a 5 would appear instead. When I tried to use the delete button to erase the 5 the it wouldn't move.
I then got out of Safari and int word to see if I would get wrong characters in a document. The same thing happened. I kept getting a combination of letters and numbers in the document I was typing. I then shut down the power book and turned it back on without being online. I was able to type in word without getting the mixture of numbers and letters.
I guess I shouldn't use the power book to get on the internet. I know macs aren't supposed to get viruses, but could the problems safari is having be a virus or some other destructive thing? or perhaps my powerbook has a virus? I was planning to upgrade the imac's 10.1.5 to Panther and use safari as explorer doesn't work well with some websites and safari was reccommended. Perhaps I should stick with explorer 5.2
I have updated to 10.4.7. recently. Is there a safari update I need? I don't remember any of this happening before the update, however I rarely use the powerbook to get on the internet, so it could have been happening before the update to 10.4.7. Also since there is something wrong with safari, is there a different browser I could use with the power book? the imac has explorer 5.2. What about an anti virus program for the power book? Any suggestions or recommendations on how to deal with these problems would be appreciated.

Can I make a special character appear when typing?

Hi everybody.
I have a form with a text field provided with a validation script, which allows the user only to enter values in the format 999999-9999. The script is places on the exit event.

If the format is not correct, the user will get an error-message.
Now I would like the hyphen to appear automatically when typing. That means when the user has typed 123456 it will display as 123456-, ready to enter the last four characters.
Is that possible.

P.S. I know I can make that (almost) happen if I make the field a numeric field, but for several reasons this is not an option.

Here is a little script that can do what you are looking for..
Place the script in the Change event of the Text Field and set the Max chars property to 11 for the Text Field.

Can't add text to photo. text doesn't appear when typeing.

I can't add text to photo. The Horizontal Text Box appears but when typing there is no text seen. There is a cursor line which appears outside the text box.

Please change the size of text and make it smaller.

The new field should hold digits in the format 9999-99999-99999-99, and I would like the hyphens to appear automatically when typing. I tried to modify the script I used before, but I can't get it to work properly. Can someone tell me, what I'm doing wrong?
My modified script looks this way:

Undesired characters appear when my site is published to web

Hi. I'm working on a blog with iWeb. The text as it appears in iWeb looks great. However, after I've uploaded it via ftp to my server and I view the page with Safari, little diamonds with question marks in them (�) appear in various places - frequently where there is supposed to be an apostrophe, or when I've left blank space. I tried setting Safari text encoding to UTF-8, Default, Western (ISO Latin 1), Western (Mac OS Roman) but no matter which encoding I use, weird symbols still appear. I don't want to publish my blog until I can get rid of these undesired characters. Any ideas?

Extra characters appearing when using VISA

Hi, I am new to labview and have a problem I've been working on for a few days. I am reading masses printed from a scale hooked up by a RS-232 to USB connection, with the ultimate goal of recording mass vs. time. Currently random letters appear in the mass at various times and cause the waveform chart to drop to zero, Looking at the signal using another program I am getting a constant mass reading. Searching the forums I have not been able to find a way around this problem. Any help would be . I attached my current program to the bottom to better explain my predicament.

1. Use a proper Stop button.
2. Set the loop's termination condition to be Stop When True.
3. Do not use the Run Continuously. What you are doing here is constantly reinitializing the serial port, which is likely causing data to be missing and giving you your weird results.
4. Close you port after the loop.
5. There is no need at all for that property node. You can define what the termination character is with the Configure Serial Port.

When @ is pressed on keyboard " appears and vice versa.

E71x - multiple characters appear when I type one ...

Hi. I hope I posted this in the correct category.
When I go to text - when I type the letter "r", I get qweu. It is like something is stuck. What can I do to correct this?
I've tried turning the phone off and back on. No luck. What key combination or what would have caused this? I don't want to have this happen again. Lost without my texting.

Are you using predictive text? You can turn it off. Start a new message-> options->input options-> predictive text.

Some Email addresses in Address Book don't appear when typing into Mail

Every now and then I start to type a name in the To: field in Mail when I know that name and address is in Address Book. The spelling is right and the sytax is right but there is no way that mail will recognize its existence. What can I do about this?

I am talking about the function as described in http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Pages09_UserGuide.pdf Chapter 11 from page 246 to 252.
In my address book under Settings - Accounts I have two accounts. One is the Exchange Server and one is Local.
The addresses stored on the Exchange server appear complete and sound in Addressbook and exactly like the ones stored local. So from this side everything is fine.
But when I want to merge addresses from Addressbook in a Pages document then the Name, Company, Title appears correct, but Street (Work), ZIP (Work), City (Work) doesn't appear if it is an address that is stored on the Exchange account. If the address is stored on the Local account then it comes complete. In Addressbook both addresses come complete and don't show any difference.
So it isn't quite true that Addressbook is not designed to import data stored in another application, because part of the address is coming.
The Exchange account on Addressbook works exactly the same than the Local account. I can add data to the Exchange account and I can export data from it.

Has anyone seen random periods appearing when typing text on their iBook?

We have an iBook G4, and over the past two weeks we have seen periods randomly appearing across different applications when we have a text box open: for example when AppleWorks is open, when using our email program, or even in the address bar in Firefox.
This occurs suddenly with no apparent pressing on the period button, and even occurs when we've walked away from the computer and come back only to see periods filling up the screen. Any pointers are much appreciated.

Is there any chance the keyboard has a sticking key? If not, there may be
some random happening due to some logical error in the system; and if
you do routine system maintenance, you could rule out user permissions
issues; or make a new second user account and enable at least standard
or higher level permissions, and see if the new account does the same.
Some odd issues can be dealt with by simply booting in SafeBoot, done
by holding down the Shift key on startup until you see the dialog box with
SafeBoot in it, and let the machine further start and go to normal desktop;
once there, you could try Disk Utility and have it "repair disk permissions"
and then quit disk utility; and restart the computer normally.
There may be some other issue behind the symptoms you experience;
sometimes, if you have too many fonts, there can be a corruption in
how text appears in some applications. There are font management apps
available; you could see if they help (if that's a possibility.)
And, there may be another reason for this. Data corruption on the hard
drive may manifest itself in odd behaviors, for example; and there would
be other symptoms or causes behind that, too.

The drop-down list that appears when typing in the Google search bar doesn't work. Clicking on an item on that list does nothing. This very useful feature is broken.

I just installed FireFox 4. In previous versions typing in the Google search box automatically created a drop-down list of items. One could click on an item on the list and proceed to a Google results page. In FireFox 4, the list appears but clicking on an item on the drop-down menu does nothing. It's broken and it was a very useful feature in previous versions.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

False letter appears when typing Cyrillic

Hallo,
can somebody help me with the letters layout on the keyboard? Whenever I'm typing in macedonian encoding, which is Cyrillic, and I press "y", instead of the letter "з", it show up the letter "э", which is not macedonian but russian. I think that the designers have switched the two letters because of their simillarity in the look. Is there a way to change the letter?

Indeed, a silly error, especially when you see that the upper-case version is OK. I made a revised keyboard, Macedonianz.keylayout, you can download from

Put this in Home/Library/Keyboard Layouts, then logout/login and check its box in system preferences/international/input menu, then select it in the "flag" menu a the top right of the Finder.

Keeps typing double letters in when entering the password for my Mac Username.

Macbook Pro just started typing double letters ONLY when typing the password for my Mac User sign up. It only does it for the area that I need to enter the password, and even types fine for the username area that's on the same screen. Even tried typing each one (which shows a double type) and backacing each couble letter, but it still says invalid. Need to get this fixed for work tomorrow.. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Try resetting your Apple ID password.

Then restart your Mac.
