Satellite C50-A-1JN - Windows 8.1 - desktop keeps attempting to reload

Satellite C50-A-1JN - Windows 8.1 installed pre-purchase.
Purchased this laptop about two months ago with no problems until tonight. The laptop loads fine up until the app home screen, but when clicking on desktop the laptop seems to attempt to 'reload' itself constantly, and I can't open any of the desktop files or do much of anything!
Has anyone suffered from similar issues and can advise of a fix? I can provide a video of what happens if this helps diagnosis/a solution.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi
From my point of few the system is muddled up and i would recommend you to reset the Win 8.1 system to the default settings
This is not very complicated but before doing this, I recommend you to backup your personal data.
Microsoft has published short instruction how to do that. Take a look here:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc
I would recommend you to test the first option without affecting the files. In case this does not solve your issue, check the 2nd option: Recovery.

  • USB Devices always hidden/unrecognised on Satellite C50-A-1JN

    Hi, hope someone can help!
I have been scouring the internet for a resolution to this problem but have found nothing so far.
Basically, I had been using a hard drive on this laptop for a couple of weeks before all of a sudden it stopped being recognised. The hard drive light was still blinking however. Since this, the hard drive has been doing the same thing on all PC's. I thought this was a broken hard drive BUT I have since tried two iPhone's, both which are also unrecognised BUT they will charge.
I have tried the iPhone's on other computers and both are fine.
The furthest I have gotten is to find out that the hard drive is listed in the device manger when I show the 'hidden devices' but I cannot use it or un hide it.
Does anyone know how to resolve this? If you need more info please let me know.
    Thanks.

If I understand you right your notebook doesn't recognize external devices connected to USB port.
Is the same problem with all USB ports?
Do you use original preinstalled Win8.1 64bit that you got with your machine?

  • Satellite C50-A628 running slow

    Good day everyone.
Sorry if this post is in the wrong section, but, please help.
I know that maybe some people might think this as a waste of time or just something you could search in google, but, for about *7 months*, I've been trying to figure out why my new laptop is running slow.
As this laptop comes without any pre-installed operating system, there is no restore disk or factory reset disc. For the first few months of using my laptop, it's been running +windows 8.1 pro+.
Every time I use it, it opens everything okay, except when my browser is open. everything becomes unstable and doesn't respond. after a few seconds of not responding, I can use it again as long as I don't multi-task. I've installed the latest graphics drivers and some apps, but that's it. I thought that it was a problem with windows 8 about 5 days ago, so I downgraded to +windows 7 ultimate 64 bit+.
Now, i'm starting to think that maybe the problem is because of the drivers since I didn't install the drivers required for the laptop since it doesn't come with the drivers and reset disk.
So now, I'd like to ask for support on this matter. Please show the proper installation of windows 7 and the all the drivers required for my laptop which is the *TOSHIBA SATELLITE C50-A628 RUNNING WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE 64-bit*. (Or any idea on why this problem is occuring)
Thank you and have a nice day.
    -George B.

One note: the system performance, especially the internet browser issues has NOTHING to do with drivers preinstalled on your notebook. Mostly drivers are not the reason why the notebook runs slow (open software slowly, etc)
Fact is that your Satellite C50-A628 was equipped with 2GB RAM.
Additionaly an part of this 2GB RAM is shared with GPU: Intel HD Graphics
Therefore less than 2GB are used for system and applications.
To be honest; this is not enough to run system smoothly!
I recommend you to upgrade the RAM at least to 4GB/6GB or better 8GB RAM to get better performance.
    Regadign the drivers download:
The Win 7 driver can be downloaded here:

  • Special Functions keys not working on Satellite C50 - Windows 8.1

    Hello,
Please could someone help me out.
I have a Toshiba Satellite C50-A0393 that I got a few months ago with Windows 8.1 already installed (64 bit). Today I got a message saying I needed to look at the PC Health, a Toshiba blue message concerning the access agreement, and I noticed that there were three upgrades that needed to be done, the only one I can remember being the Toshiba Video Player. I think that another one had to do with the charger light?
    I don't know.
But once I restarted my laptop after the updates I noticed that the special function keys were not working (i.e. the volume, mute, pause and play, etc.). i then went onto the Toshiba Desktop Assist and into system settings and selected the keyboard tab. I then made sure the setting for special function mode was selected.
Now, when that setting is in place, certain keys work but for F3, F5, F6, etc and when I want to use the special functions only the volume up and down work when pressing 'Fn', but special function mode is still selected? Only those two work, not the mute or flightmode or bluetooth, which was working normally before the upgrades.
I have googled but cannot find anything specific to 8.1, or not relating to upgrading to 8.1. I cannot find the flashcard utility and do not want to try something where I do not know what I am doing. How can I get these special function keys working again normally? Sorry for the long message but I wanted to give as much info as possible.
    Many thanks,
    Melanie

    Hi
It sounds strange to me that a Toshiba update (Toshiba Video Player, etc) would affect the function key functionality.
Nevertheless the function key (F1-F10) can be used in combination with or without the FN button. This depends on the special function key mode.
In case you want to use the F1-F12 functions without the pressing FN button, the function key mode should be enabled (should be set to special function mode)
Here the full details how it works:
    https://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD2503B90001R01.htm
Now it these buttons would not work even if the FN button has been pressed, then there is some problem with the software.
First of all I would recommend you to set the BIOS to default because this function key mode can be changed in BIOS too.
After that, check if the key would work. If not, reinstall the
    Toshiba Function Key Utility
    And Toshiba System Driver
You can also check if the essential service has not been disabled.
Start the Task Manager and go to start up items. There you should enable all Toshiba apps and services and then restart.

  • Satellite C50-B-13T - Win 8.1 cannot change desktop background

    Hi folks,
I'm new to this forum so please bear with me.
I bought a new Toshiba Satellite C50-B-13T laptop yesterday with Windows 8.1 installed and I cannot change the desktop screen from a blank black one to a picture of my choice... I've tried everything, and even looked for videos on Youtube to see if there's a remedy for it.
When I look at the control panel the thumbnail shows the picture I've chosen, but the actual desktop (not the smart screen bit) is still plain black. All of my icons work just fine but the background will not change.
If anyone can help me sort this out I'd be really grateful?
    Thanks everyone :O)

You ask how to change the Windows background?
    This is not very tricky.
Microsoft released a useful article regarding Windows system personalization.
    Please check this aricle:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/personalize-pc-tutorial
Note: there is a difference between the desktop background and the lock screen.
The lock screen is the screen you see when you lock your PC (or when it locks automatically after you haven't been using it for a while).

  • Windows 7 Installation on Satellite C50-A-1JM possible?

    Thanks for reading my topic.
I have bought a Toshiba Satellite C50-A-1JM and I cannot install Windows 7 on it.
I upgraded BIOS to V1.30 still after that, I have only the option Secure Boot to disable or enable
There's no option to switch to CSM or legacy, as I know this MUST be done before I can install Windows 7.
Is there any chance to install a Win7 on this Laptop?
    Thanks
    Elmar

Thank you, yes, you are right, there are really no drivers to download.
    With a modified USB-stick
    [http://www.com-magazin.de/praxis/windows-7/windows-7-uefi-pc-installieren-7531.html?page=4_setup-stick-fuer-uefi-pcs-erstellen]
I got the laptop started to installation process, but shortly after loading files there always approaches a red stripe at the top of the laptop and windows installation freezes.
It doesnt matter, if it is installed from the usb oder from original MS DVD, same error, same freeze
So, no chance to downgrade - then I will send it back.
    Thank you!

  • Windows 7 Installation on Satellite C50-A-1JT

    Hi everyone,
I've bought a brand new Sattelite C50-A-1JT PSCJGE from Romania with no OS.
First i've tried for about a day to install Windows 7 and it won't boot, neither on DVD neither on USB, only Windows 8, but after i've searched about it, i found out that i have to change my bios settings from UEFI to CSM Boot and disable Secue Boot.
NOT A CHANCE. Intead of a normal BIOS i only have Toshiba Setup Utility and i have only the Boot Order option and Secure Boot, that didn't helped me.
I thought that my BIOS is out-dated (1.10)
So went to the Toshiba Website and searched for an BIOS Update and the only one was this:
    [BIOS 1.30-WIN for Satellite C55-A, Satellite C50-A|http://www.toshiba.com.ro/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?LNG=27&service=SE&selC ategory=2&selFamily=2&selSeries=312&selProduct=793 4&selShortMod=4628&language=47&selOS=46&selType=4& yearupload=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&m ode=allMachines&search=&action=search&macId=&count ry=all&selectedLanguage=47&type=4&page=1&ID=90346& OSID=-1&driverLanguage=42]
    ...but unafortunatelly, it isn't available.
So, i there any chance to have Windows 7 on this laptop?... 'cause i hate 8

Many Win8 machines are supported for Win7 so, generally speaking, you should not have some big problems. As you already wrote you must at first change BIOS settings - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2C03F80002R01.htm
After doing this restart your notebook and press F12. When boot menu is shown on the screen put Win7 installation disc into optical disc drive, choose CD/DVD as first bootable device and press ENTER. ODD should start to read Win7 installation disc and setup will be shown on the screen.
On this way I have installed Win7 on my Satellite U940.
Please try again and post some feedback.

  • Satellite C50-A0113 does not boot into windows

    Hello.
    I own a toshiba satellite C50-A0113 laptop running windows 8 64bit.
Ive had it for exactly two years a few days ago i restarted it and then when it starts it stops at the "Toshiba leading innovation" screen and then it says scanning and repairing drive C while on that screen it starts the process and then stops at 34%.
that was two days ago now it just gets stuck on the "toshiba leading innovation screen " then after a few minutes it says preparing automatic repair.
It then leaves that screen and goes to a black screen for a few minutes then flashes the blue screen written "your computer encountered a problem" then restarts.
I tried creating a bootable windows 8 disc in order to repair but it doesnt even boot into the usb.
I restart and press f12 in order to select the media to boot into. It checks the media goes to the toshiba screen then just goes black for some minutes untill it restarts.
May i please know what is wrong and how can i possibly fix this because the problem is clearly not my hard drive.
I removed it and put into another laptop and it was fine

    Dear aya11,
Defiantly it is a operating system issue.
did you check in the BIOS mode??
if your laptop is working fine in the BIOS mode then you have to reinstall operating system.
if you have preloaded operating system then you can recover your operating system.
    recovery option is :*
if you are using window 7 in your laptop then,
just restart your laptop and hold the "0" numeric key..u get option HDD recovery just enter in HDD recovery
then it showing popup for format laptop just click on the yes ..you get a next option and your laptop is getting restart.
if you are using window 8 in your laptop then
just restart your laptop and hold the "F12" numeric key..you get option HDD recovery just enter in HDD recovery
then it showing popup for format laptop just click on the yes ..you get a next option and your laptop is getting restart.
in case both option is not working then u have install a new OS.
    Thnx :)

  • Satellite C50-B-133 - HDMI not connecting to TV

    Help.
I have just purchased a Satellite C50-B-133 laptop.
The problem is I cannot get it to display via a HD cable on my Panasonic TV.
It does recognise that it is connected to a Panasonic TV.
I have done the Windows + P to select 'duplicate screen' etc but to no avail.
The Toshiba website interactive assistant mentioned it could be the cable...........is that a possibility?
Other items - playstation etc connect via this cable with no difficulty.
When i go into settings > change pc settings > display > detect > 'didn't detect another display' is the answer. However when i go into Toshiba Desktop Assist > tools and utilities > display utility > multiple displays > the panasonic tv is listed. #confused.............
    Message was edited by: rednep_dp

I think you should power off both devices: TV and notebook.
Regarding the notebook: please ensure that the notebook has been shut off completely as mentioned here:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2B03EY0002R01.htm
Connect both devices with the HDMI cable and then power up the TV and the notebook.
Then you could try to use FN + F4 (or only F4) to switch between the external and internal display. Please ensure that internal resolution has to match the external resolution in order to use the both displays simultaneously.
In case this will not work, try to reinstall the display driver (graphic card driver.)

  • Satellite C50 - Secure Boot not configured correctly Build 9600

    Hi,
Recently purchased a refurbished Toshiba Satellite C50 running windows 8.1 operating system. Was very pleased with it but found the message 'SecureBoot not configured correctly Build 9600' in a watermark in the bottom right corner of my desktop.
Decided to search the internet for a resolution and after going on 3 troubleshooting sites, found out about the BIOS Setup required, however it warned that this was for advanced users who know their stuff about the technicalities of computers. Whilst I am computer literate, I'm not someone who likes to mess with the advanced options. Then, I stumbled across a reliable computer blog which had a detailed post on SecureBoot.
( Link to blog and specfic post:
    www.techrepublic.com/blog/windows-and-office/deal-with-the-secureboot-isnt-configured-correctly-watermark-in-windows-81/ )
I thought this would resolve my issue, and I will admit it did help, telling me to use windows powershell as a precaution before using the BIOS setup. I was glad I did as it came back telling me that I have a non-production SecureBoot policy present on my laptop in which case I would have to ask for technical support for a system specific solution which would typically be a firmware update.
I did try to phone, but the line was very busy and felt it might be easier to post this issue on a forum.
If anyone has an answer please help as I really would like to enable SecureBoot if possible, as I believe computers should be set up with the best security options possible and it makes me feel comfortable knowing that it is set up securely.

Someone commented the blog and posted this solution:
The registry fix to remove the watermark is as follows.
    1. Start the Registry Editor with Admin rights (C:\Windows\regedit)
    2. Navigate to the following path
    -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ System.
    3. There, the two values " ConsentPromptBehaviorAdmin "and" EnableLUA "set to" 0 ".
You can also try to enable the secure boot option in BIOS (in case its not already enabled)
To get into the BIOS, press F2 while powering ON the unit.
Additionally recommend checking this Microsoft page:

  • WI-FI is not working on Satellite C50-A-179

    Hello everyone!
I own Toshiba Satellite C50-A-179 (PSCGAE) laptop with Windows 8 and recently I've tried installing Connectify on it.
However, Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter was missing on the laptop, and because of that Connectify couldn't work. I've tried to enable/install it somehow using tips found on the internet. One of the suggestion was to reinstall the Wireless Adapter driver.
    I uninstalled the original driver, and reinstalled it again after downloading it from Toshiba website ( [here|http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=312&selProduct=7934&selSh ortMod=3969&language=13&selOS=40&selType=97&yearup load=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=al lMachines&search=&action=search&macId=&country=all &selectedLanguage=13&type=97&page=1&ID=86778&OSID= 40&driverLanguage=42] )
I'm sure I downloaded and installed the right driver for the right adapter which is "Qualcomm Atheros AR956x Wireless Network Adapter". I made sure before the installation to check all the information about the adapter and the driver.
However, after the reinstallation wifi has stopped working completely:
    -the wireless network connection icon/adapter from "Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections" is there but it does not behave as it should, it just looks as a generic network connection icon and not a specific one-basically it doesn't represent the actual adapter and hasn't got the name of it in the note;
    -wifi option in Windows 8 settings menu-Change PC settings-Network has disappeared altogether (bluetooth option is still there and so is airplane mode option);
-wifi can be turned on by pressing enable from the righ click menu of that generic network connection I've mentioned, but it won't pick up any signal and won't find any connections even though there definitely are some.
There are no yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager list and the wireless adapter is there as well, behaving and pretending as if everything was all right and working properly.
I've tried Troubleshooting, installing driver using Windows Update, installing and updating driver from its properties menu in Device Manager, and all kinds of things like that, but none of it has helped and wifi still does not work.
Basically, the laptop seems to be thinking that the adapter is working properly and everything is fine HW and SW wise, but in reality it isn't. I really don't know what else I should try, I don't want to reinstall the whole operating system because I'm afraid it (or I) would mess everything up even more (messing up even more drivers).
I'm running on a cable internet connection now, and I'm glad at least that is working (I really need the laptop for work and I can't afford to loose it for a day, let alone for longer)
    Could anyone please help me?
Any ideas how to fix this and make wifi work again?
I'll be really thankful for any advice.
    Thank you, Miko31.

    Hi
In case the WLan card is recognized properly in device manager, the Wlan driver has been installed properly and I dont think that there could be a problem with WLan driver.
In my opinion you should check if the WLan card is enabled properly by using the FN key combination
Furthermore if Wlan has been enabled properly you should try to Add new WLan and should configure the Wifi once again.
This can be done in control panel-> Network & Sharing center -> Manage wireless networks (on the left) -> Add button
    > However, Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter was missing on the laptop,
Regarding the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter
You could enable this in device manager. Here choose your "network adapters", then you should find the Virtual Wifi Adapter. Now do right click it and enable it.
It could be also possible that Virtual Wifi Adapter is hidden. In such case you should first unhide it from the device manger, then re-enable the adapter from the device manger tools.
After that, you have to start your cmd (console) with admin right and should type:
    +netsh wlan start hostednetwork+

  • Cannot find Win 8.1 drivers for Satellite C50-A-1DV

    Hi.
I re-installed windows 8.1 from a disk I have, but I'm having driver problems, namely finding certain driver support on the Toshiba website.
It seem that my laptop isn't listed, or I can't find it in the support section for drivers.
The drivers I'm looking for namely are the motherboard drivers.
I already tried a driver site but my laptop was taking a good few minutes to power off after shutdown so I doubt those were correct. I'll try intel chipset device software and see if that gives me the correct ones.
Rest of drivers I can get simple enough through device manager, but not the chipset drivers, and probably usb 3.0 too.
On a side note, I noticed I don't need to type in the key, which I wrote down using belarc, I assume it's saved to the BIOS and windows auto detects it correct?

    Hello
According notebook specification your notebook was delivered with preinstalled Windows 8.1 64bit so what you should do is to reinstall original recovery image that contains all necessary drivers.
When you say you have installed Win 8.1 from the disc, what does it mean exactly?
Have you installed your own OS version or original Win8.1 version from created recovery disc?
Anyway, al Win8.1 64bit drivers you can download from Toshiba download page - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
There you can find all drivers for your Satellite C50-A-1DV with part number PSCG6E.
    Check it out.

  • Satellite C50-A - upgrading to Win 8.1 bit from Win7

    Hi
Wondering, I have the Windows 8.1, upgrade media I got for my Toshiba Satellite C50-A machine. Want to upgrade to Windows 8.1, and got the upgrade DVD, that came with the laptop. So do I just insert the DVD, click set-up, or do I need to go back to factory settings, then insert the DVD, and as a blind it student, will need sighted help.
Any help, tips, tricks from people done this before. I have a 1 TB USB Toshiba external drive, so have backed up everything on to that and added a couple of things today, but backed up all the rest of my stuff, docs, college work, e-mails, my rss feed settings, contacts for outlook 2010, programs, music, TV, movies, favorites, etc. so any advice.
Going to do this tomorrow. as doing a programming course and the instructor is using windows 8.1, and need to develop windows stores and windows phone apps.
    Marvin from Adelaide, Australia.

Exact specification of your model is not known to me but I presume you got your machine with Win8.1 recovery disc so if you want to use Win8.1 you must boot your machine with this recovery disc and make clean OS installation.
I don't know if you got your machine with originally preinstalled Win7. If yes create recovery media (DVD or USB) using preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator before you start Win8.1 installation.
This created recovery media you can use if you want to have machine with Win7 again.
