Satellite C50-A - upgrading to Win 8.1 bit from Win7

Hi
Wondering, I have the Windows 8.1, upgrade media I got for my Toshiba Satellite C50-A machine. Want to upgrade to Windows 8.1, and got the upgrade DVD, that came with the laptop. So do I just insert the DVD, click set-up, or do I need to go back to factory settings, then insert the DVD, and as a blind it student, will need sighted help.
Any help, tips, tricks from people done this before. I have a 1 TB USB Toshiba external drive, so have backed up everything on to that and added a couple of things today, but backed up all the rest of my stuff, docs, college work, e-mails, my rss feed settings, contacts for outlook 2010, programs, music, TV, movies, favorites, etc. so any advice.
Going to do this tomorrow. as doing a programming course and the instructor is using windows 8.1, and need to develop windows stores and windows phone apps.
Marvin from Adelaide, Australia.

Exact specification of your model is not known to me but I presume you got your machine with Win8.1 recovery disc so if you want to use Win8.1 you must boot your machine with this recovery disc and make clean OS installation.
I don't know if you got your machine with originally preinstalled Win7. If yes create recovery media (DVD or USB) using preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator before you start Win8.1 installation.
This created recovery media you can use if you want to have machine with Win7 again.

  • Is Satellite C50-A441 preinstalled with Win 8.1 English language?

I haven't managed to get a straight answer on the microsoft forum so am posting here.
The following product ( [C50-A441|http://www.toshibamea.com/ComputerProduct/4/Satellite_C50-A441/52956?pageid=4] ) is advertised as Windows 8.1 Single Language 64-bit (pre-installed).
I am currently based in the middle east and asked in the shop if the language was US English but I did not get a clear answer and I don't want to buy a laptop with Arabic.
Is there any way to know if it is in US English (I am not able to test before purchasing...).
    Many Thanks.

  • Portege R500 upgrade to Win 7 64 bit: touchpad scroll lost and no driver

    Dear All,
I have upgraded the OS of my portege R500 to WIndows 7 64 bit and had the following problems:
    1. At first the touchpad scroll worked fine (with no driver installed) but then it stopped working .... so I looked for a driver but
    2. There are no driver for the touchpad (Alps) that is recognized as a PS compatible mouse
BTW uninstall and reinstall did not work, and I have searched a lot through the web but found no solution.
I have downloaded the drivers for VISTA 64bit, is it safe to use?
    Any hints appreciated, thanks.
    Simone

    Hi
    >I have downloaded the drivers for VISTA 64bit, is it safe to use?
Yes, its safe You can try to install touchpad drivers for Vista in worst case you will get a error message that this driver is not compatible or will not work.
But listen dude there are Win 7 Alps and Synaptics touchpad drivers for Win 7.
The drivers have been released for other notebook series.
Check the Satellite L500 area for example
    I found Win 7 64bit drivers:
    Synaptics v14.0.11.0

  • ITunes will not upgrade on Win 7 64 Bit

    Hi,
    I have Win 7 Home Premium 64-Bit.
I am trying to upgrade from iTunes 10.1.0.54 to the current version.
When I try to use Apple Software Update, it downloads but I get an install error and it tells me to try and download it separately.
When I downloaded iTunes from the Apple web site, the error I get was that the Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. I downloaded the 64-bit version of iTunes.
What can I do to fix this?
    Thanks!

but then I got a problem: the installation said I had a newer version of QuickTime then the one the iTunes.exe came with
It's okay ... we're still making progress. With these ones there's also (relatively) commonly additional trouble with the QuickTime.msi and associated installation configuration information that can produce that new error message. So there's a way forward, but there's a bit of awkwardness involved in getting the tools for the job.
Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Quicktime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try reinstalling iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Upgrading to Win 7 64 Bit - best way to save my work?

I'm about to install Win7 64 bit build 7600 to replace my exisiting 32 bit build 7100. I will be installing the full retail version sometime after the first of the year. Thanks to HP making their B9180 printer driver incompatible with the RC version, I can't use my printer - thus the need for this interim step. I'm aware that some people have been able to get the Vista driver to install in the RC, but after half dozen tries doing it different ways, I finally accepted that I was one of those who could not. HP was of absolutely no help refusing to offer support with the win7 beta. Even now that the official driver is available, they won't offer any assistance in working around the build number issue.
The magic question is what is the best way to let LR move or backup ALL my images plus all the keywords and edits that have been done so that when I reinstall LR on the new system, I can get access? Is it as simple as a catalog backup (which I do weekly) to my external drive? I have roughly 20,000 images under one main folder heading with lots of subs. I'm probably overcomplicating something rather simple and routine, but I've never done it, and once I start the reformat process for the install, there's no turning back or undoing any major screwups!
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Vince Pack

Michael, I have moved to 7 - that's the issue. Budgetary issues are preventing me from going out and buying the full retail version until after Christmas, but I still need to print. I feel the need to make the transition to the 64 bit OS since my computer use is primarily image centered, so having access to more than 4GB RAM would be of obvious benefit. Installing build 7600 and the 64 bit OS solves both my need for more RAM and gets me past the HP driver issue.
I also understand the whole "first tier tech support" system. HP is the only company I routinely have this problem with, however. When I buy hardware, I expect at least some support - even though I always expect to have to jump through the whole series of first tier support hoops. My complaint with HP is their tech support seems to be diminishing in quality while most others are trying to improve it. With well over 7 million Windows 7 beta users out here, they need to be equipped with more than a patent "will not be able to answer any questions regarding Windows 7 beta compatibility". Certainly if anyone had been willing to elevate my question to a higher level, I would have been told about the 7600 build requirement which would have alleviated my frustration.
I also understand the whole beta process. I don't actually feel "entitled" to help - only a helpful attitude; which I usually do NOT get from HP. This latest in a series will undoubtedly affect which printer I eventually replace my B9180 with. As Stephen suggests, I certainly do NOT feel compelled to buy one of the computers. My son has an HP laptop, and while the system itself has been stable, it's had a host of hardware failures (HD, Screen, DVD-drive, touchpad). I'm about done with HP in general. Still, my B9180 is a darn good printer and shouldn't need replacement for a while. In the meantime, I just want to use it!

  • How to install Oracle RAC using 11gR2 on Win 7 32 bit from scratch?

    Hiii,
    I am a fresher and I have a win 7 system 32 bit with oracle 11gR2.
I want to install RAC using two or more servers but I dont know too much about it.
I tried to search on google but all they are giving information in pieces(for win 7) or about Linux(Please tell me why its all Linux everywhere not windows).
Please let me know if there any site where I can find step by step installation from scratch.
What are basic requirements(/software if needed).
    Thank you.

    Hi,
First of all forget about Windows!! Oracle is mainly designed for Linux systems. Oracle runs as real multi-process on Linux machines whereas on Windows it runs as a single process with multi-thread.
Memory usage - huge pages, single CPU run queue, dnfs, storage systems... etc. lots of concepts exists.
Besides Windows is one of the most poorly designed operating systems, you should use it only to watch cute kitten movies on youtube... Believe me, you wouldn't want to learn Oracle on Windows...
So, install virtualbox and then setup Oracle Enterprise Linux on it as a first step... By the way you have to deal with DNS server for release 11.X, RAC, you may start with 10g for now.
ORACLE-BASE has all the installation steps explained detailly, search for "oracle base rac install" on google.
I also explained on my blog, but it is a little bit advanced installation using ZFS storage simulator. DNS server installation is also explained:  http://ilkertaysi.com/2013/11/11/oracle-rac-installation-with-zfs-storage/

  • Satellite C50-A628 running slow

    Good day everyone.
Sorry if this post is in the wrong section, but, please help.
I know that maybe some people might think this as a waste of time or just something you could search in google, but, for about *7 months*, I've been trying to figure out why my new laptop is running slow.
As this laptop comes without any pre-installed operating system, there is no restore disk or factory reset disc. For the first few months of using my laptop, it's been running +windows 8.1 pro+.
Every time I use it, it opens everything okay, except when my browser is open. everything becomes unstable and doesn't respond. after a few seconds of not responding, I can use it again as long as I don't multi-task. I've installed the latest graphics drivers and some apps, but that's it. I thought that it was a problem with windows 8 about 5 days ago, so I downgraded to +windows 7 ultimate 64 bit+.
Now, i'm starting to think that maybe the problem is because of the drivers since I didn't install the drivers required for the laptop since it doesn't come with the drivers and reset disk.
So now, I'd like to ask for support on this matter. Please show the proper installation of windows 7 and the all the drivers required for my laptop which is the *TOSHIBA SATELLITE C50-A628 RUNNING WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE 64-bit*. (Or any idea on why this problem is occuring)
Thank you and have a nice day.
    -George B.

One note: the system performance, especially the internet browser issues has NOTHING to do with drivers preinstalled on your notebook. Mostly drivers are not the reason why the notebook runs slow (open software slowly, etc)
Fact is that your Satellite C50-A628 was equipped with 2GB RAM.
Additionaly an part of this 2GB RAM is shared with GPU: Intel HD Graphics
Therefore less than 2GB are used for system and applications.
To be honest; this is not enough to run system smoothly!
I recommend you to upgrade the RAM at least to 4GB/6GB or better 8GB RAM to get better performance.
    Regadign the drivers download:

  • Toshiba Satellite P870 upgraded to Win 8.1 does not boot

I have a Toshiba Satellite P870 with Win 8 preinstalled. Soon after upgrade to Win 8.1 and basically successful removal of “watermark error” (secure boot activated) the machine stopped booting completely: after pressing the power button ventilator sound
is heard with periodically changing loudness as well as clicking sound from the speakers. The screen stays black. Attempts to start the PC through pressing F2 or zero buttons did not produce any result. Neither did I succeed with recovery discs I created before:
the system simply does not boot from the disk. It looks like I tried all options offered by Microsoft and Toshiba. I would be happy to roll back to factory settings.
Could someone give me hint what to do next?

    Hi,
For the issue, let us know how to remove the “watermark error".
Meanwhile, I would like to confirm if you could access the BIOS.
I suggest you update the BIOS version to test it.
If you want to repair the startup issue, you should use windows 8.1 recovery discs or installation discs.
Meanwhile, if you cannot access the BIOS, it may be caused by hardware, I suggest you contact the Toshiba manufacturer for further help.

  • Cannot find Win 8.1 drivers for Satellite C50-A-1DV

    Hi.
I re-installed windows 8.1 from a disk I have, but I'm having driver problems, namely finding certain driver support on the Toshiba website.
It seem that my laptop isn't listed, or I can't find it in the support section for drivers.
The drivers I'm looking for namely are the motherboard drivers.
I already tried a driver site but my laptop was taking a good few minutes to power off after shutdown so I doubt those were correct. I'll try intel chipset device software and see if that gives me the correct ones.
Rest of drivers I can get simple enough through device manager, but not the chipset drivers, and probably usb 3.0 too.
On a side note, I noticed I don't need to type in the key, which I wrote down using belarc, I assume it's saved to the BIOS and windows auto detects it correct?

    Hello
According notebook specification your notebook was delivered with preinstalled Windows 8.1 64bit so what you should do is to reinstall original recovery image that contains all necessary drivers.
When you say you have installed Win 8.1 from the disc, what does it mean exactly?
Have you installed your own OS version or original Win8.1 version from created recovery disc?
Anyway, al Win8.1 64bit drivers you can download from Toshiba download page - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
There you can find all drivers for your Satellite C50-A-1DV with part number PSCG6E.
    Check it out.

  • System recovery fails after upgrade to Win 8.1 on Satellite L75D-A7283

My elderly uncle forgot the password to his Win 8 user account sometime after upgrading to Win 8.1. He was the administrator, we haven't been able to get Microsoft to reset the account, so I thought to roll back the computer to its factory installation of Win 8.
However, when I try to do that, I get as far as the Reset your PC screen and find that the only target OS is Win 8.1, not the original Win 8. Ok, I accept that. But after choosing to restore Win 8.1, it says "Unable to reset your PC. A required drive partition is missing."
I have examined the disk by removing it and attaching it to another computer and find that both the original Win 8 recovery partition and the new Win 8.1 GPT recovery partition are both there. They just don't seem to be accessible.
It seems that the Win 8.1 upgrade has made the original factory recovery partition inaccessible, which is not particularly helpful. We have no recovery disks to work from, so I think my only recourse is to try to get a Win 8 factory recovery disk from Toshiba, but I wondered if anyone else has a suggestion? Thanks.

    Satellite L75D-A7283
It's my understanding the upgrade does not modify any other partitions while upgrading Windows itself. Seems likely something else is wrong.
If you did not create recovery media before and cannot do so now, then obtain it from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here.
All the information in the section Recovering the Internal Storage Drive, which begins on p. 53 of the User's Guide, should still be applicable.

  • Satellite R630 - Driver issues on Win 7 64bit after SP1 upgrade

    Need your help here guys,
My Satellite R-630 is less than a year old, running a Windows 7 Home Premium on 64 bit. For a while, I have been experiencing BSOD's, which I traced through the Event Viewer to here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd337789(WS.10).aspx
This did not lead me far enough.
Finally, I concluded through other forums that the SP1 upgrade would solve some of the annoying BSOD issues and I launched the download and upgrade. However, on restart, while my laptop seems to have been cured (so far) of the BSOD's, I have issues with drivers for:
    - Sound Card
    - USB Controllers
    - DVD Player
    - Webcam
    - Bus Enumerators
I have downloaded the indicated Win 7 - 64 bit drivers in each case. I tried installing them first. Nothing happened. I uninstalled the existing drivers, and installed them again. Nothing happened again.
I figured I must be doing things in the wrong order.
    So I tried installing
1). the Chip Set Utility (drivers?) first, then
    2). the USB drivers
    3). Sound card drivers etc.
    Nothing is happening still.
I am running out of ideas here.
P.S While all the other drivers executed fine when I extracted them from the .zip format, the Sound card driver refused to execute, even though the "run command" box was ticked when the .msi file was run.
I extracted it into a folder and ran it manually.
    Still didn't help.

That's where I got things wrong I think. I did not use the windows automatic update, because it kept saying connection was unsuccessful.
What happened is it identified a component of the SP1 as a "critical update", a 900 mb chunk (listed as windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5842 ) but would not download it. It failed every time. So I went on the windows download centre, looked up for the same component and installed it manually. Right now windows update turned green with the tick and says everything is fine.
I will try to restore my settings to the former configuration and let you know. I was about to try that last night, but I didn't see any restore date prior to the SP1 installation. I'll try this right now.
--*Edit:* So system restore isn't working. There is only one restore point that's prior to the SP1 installation. I've tried 3 times already. Every time it tells me that it could not access a file, probably because of antivirus. I use Avira. I disabled it the second time. Still same message. I uninstalled it completely for the 3rd trial, same message again.--
--So system restore isn't an option. Could it be that I missed a component that would be required for some drivers to work properly after the update?--
*Edit*: In all my troubles, I forgot an elementary step: run system restore in Safe Mode. Which I did. Now my system is back to before SP1, sound, usb connectivity working. I suppose everything is back where it should be. I'll just wait and see if i get a BSOD again and come back here if need be.
    Thanks guys.

  • Satellite C50-B with Win 8.1 - PXE error appeares using UEFI boot mode

I have a C50-b laptop running Win 8.1 and recently needed to boot it from a usb key so eventually found the way to do that (miss the bios first boot menu) and managed to do that.
My problem is even when I have returned to uefi and set the boot order to be local disk, cd, network it asks everytime do I want to boot for PXE IP4,IP6 then IP4 and IP6 again. I have also disabled secure boot
I think some value is missing when I switched to BIOS and back to UETI boot option but where is the laptop getting the setting to tell it to PXE/Network boot when its down the list and wake on LAN is disabled.

According to the automated support on the site I should do the following for Win 8
Switch on the notebook and immediately begin tapping the F2 key continuously.
When the system setup (BIOS) appears, stop tapping F2. Tap F9 once, select 'Yes', and press Enter.
Use the cursor keys to move to the Advanced menu.
Choose System Configuration and press Enter.
Ensure that Boot Mode is set to UEFI Boot.
Press Escape to return to the Advanced menu and choose the Security menu.
    Set Secure Boot to Enabled.
Press F10 once, select 'Yes', and press Enter.
