Satellite C55-A-1R8 - Touchpad interference issue

I have Satellite C55-A-1R8, using Windows 8.1.
The Synaptics touchpad has always given some unpredictable results, whatever setings I have used or cancelled.
For example, it suddeny loses the ability to receive a double click, even though the icon still has 'tap to click' ticked; when I do click it, the cursor flies off into the top right corner of the screen and is difficult to control again.
The buttons continue to work normally, though, But if I sleep or hibernate the computer things are normal again immediately it wakes.
Also, the pad often picks up and moves icons/files without double clicking. I installed the most recent Synaptics driver update, but no change.
However, I am told that the casework on this model is so thin that fingers resting on it below the keyboard can interfere with the touchpad commands, and am beginning to suspect that this might be the reason for some of the odd behaviour.
If it is, can I insulate it with anything to prevent this happening?

Thanks for your interest.
Yes, I have varied the touch sensitivity and also the gesture options. And I suspected a problem from when the laptop was new, but I had moved up from XP to Windows 8.1, which I found very confusing for a long while.
And the machine itself feels very different from the firmer keys of my previous (HP) model which did not permit 'touchscreen-type' features on the touchpad.
For a long time I thought it was me! Then that it might be some kind of clash between the system software and one of the programs I had installed. And for a while it appeared to happen only when I was online; but a week away from any possible wifi connection was not entirely problem-free.
The trouble is that this cursor problem is completely unpredictable, and I can't induce it at will!
I tried insulating the casework with bubblewrap, had no repetition of the problem for over a week, then it started to happen again.
I think the factory settings might be the only way forward - at least I now have a better idea of how 8.1 works.

  • BIOS licence issue on Satellite C55-A-1R8

    Good afternoon all
I have a problem with my daughter's laptop.
She closed the lid shut with i set of earphones and it broke the screen.
I ordered a replacement screen but while we waited for that to arrive she pluged in a stand alone monitor.
When she did thsi she got a message on the screen soon after saying that the Windows requires Activating, We wondered if it was connected to the monitor and left it until i recieved the new screen, Once fitted i found that we still go the message and certain features stopped working, such as the Network card . I uploaded drivers on my laptop for the network card and put them onto her laptop.
This got the LAD service running on a rectricted setting but still no WiFi .
I took it to a repair shop in Dundee, 3000rpm who have recovered the laptop from the recovery section on tthe hard drive, however the licence number in the recovery section is not being reconised by Windows.
The laptop is running Windows 8.1 and was bought 18 months ago brand new, from woolworths( on-line) . 3000rpm have managed to restart the network card and it is working on both WiFi and Lad but as Windows hasn't been reconnised we cannot recieve any updates.
They have no more answers other than to completely wipe the laptop and reinstall Windows from a licened disk. I wonder if anyone has any ideas , how this might have happened and if there is any other way to get around it.
I have tried Toshia help and support live chat and it doesn't help , i'm affraid.
    Your help is very welcome.
    Many thanks Mick

  • Satellite C55-A-1R8 wont turn on

Laptop just wont power up, no sound / response when i press power button.
Tried removing battery/ power and pressing power for 30 secs to no avail.
Also tried without power/battery, i was getting yellow light on the battery/power led but now its white .
    I hope someone can help

Unfortunately there is no some magic solution for such issues. On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong with your machine.
Have you maybe tried to install BIOS update or do something that could be responsible for that?
Few years ago I have tried to connect external HDD using USB and for some reason my notebook has some kind of electro shock. The mainboard was death.
In my opinion you need professional help so I think you should contact nearest Toshiba service provider in your country and ask for help. They have diagnostic tools and methods to check power supply electronic and find out what is wrong there.

  • Satellite C55-B5353 - how to disable touchpad sensor?

I'm using Windows 8.1 on a Toshiba Satellite C55-B5353. I need to disable the touchpad sensor. It's driving me crazy.
I never use swipes or touchpad gestures...I rely exclusively on keyboarding and manual use of a mouse. But on this computer, because of the touchpad sensor, I cannot type, keyboard, or use my mouse efficiently. That's because the sensor makes my cursor jump, or causes pages to scroll up and down, etc.
I've tried using the F5 key and the FN+F9 keys. It doesn't work.
Can someone please tell me what to do about this problem? I can't get any work done until I find a solution. I don't know if the problem is the Satellite C55-B5353 or Windows 8.1.

    Satellite C55-B5353
I've tried using the F5 key and the FN+F9 keys.
It should be either F5 or Fn + F5. See the top of p. 146 in the User's Guide.

  • Touchpad freezes and won't work. satellite c55

I have a Toshiba Satellite C55-B5272 and from day one the touchpad on this thing as sucked and it is so frustrating. The most annoying thing it will do, is the cursor will just freeze up and then I have to wait for a minute so that it can figure itself out, and then it will do it again shortly there after. I am running windows 7 64 bit, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have been having a similar problem - Also since the time I first purchased the machine.  I have a C55 Dt - B5208.  It always works fine when using the mouse or the touch screen but the touch pad does crazy things that drive me crazy.  At times I want to toss it out a window.  It freeses frequently, It usually starts by moving iratically when sliding my finger acros it the curser will either stop or jump.  It almost seems as if the touch pad becomes less sensitive and its harder for it to detect my finger. Then it freezes.  Some times - but not all the time, the curser dissappears.  I set the target so when that happens I hit the control button to see if I ran it off the screen but it is still on the screen.  After 30 seconds or so it starts working again.  The curser just re-appears and moves fine - until the next time.  It seems to do this more often when I first start working with the machine and less frequently the longer I work with it.  I have been unable to figure this out.  It is not from anything that I have installed as it did this right from the box.

  • SATELLITE C55-B5298 - Touchpad suddenly freezes

Hi everyone, I purchased this laptop, satellite c55-b5298 in february of 2015.I haven't had any problem with it but yesterday I reset my computer to factory settings (using the removeeverything and reinstall windows option). Since that I started having this problem where the touchpad pointer freezes for maybe 1 minute and then starts working again.  I usually close my laptop and open it again so it works again. When it freezes I can't even right or left click anything. Using windows 8.1 64 bits and just scanned for viruses (avast) and malwares (malwarebytes) and used cclenaer but still this problem keeps happening.   I checked for drivers updates (from devices manager) but it says it is updated.  I also updated checked for windows update and everything was updated already. So what else can I do?

I have never been a fan of the touchpad Toshiba implemented. Do a hard reset to clear extra power from your machine. Turn your machine off. Remove all attachment wires/cables as well as the battery. Hold the power button for 30-45 seconds to clear any power going through to the machine. Place your battery back in and turn on your computer.
    Post updates after.

Instructions for changeing to from Windows 8 to windows 7.
    INSTRUCTIONS:
First - Burn recovery media before you make any changes! -You may want or need to go back to windows 8 later-
Update BIOS to newest bios version, the C55 and possibly other models will not support CSM boot mode with the older bios versions.
    Second -
Important Bios changes when changing from Windows 8 to Windows 7:
Completely shut down laptop (Shut down Windows 8 while pressing the Shift key to completely power off.) then restart computer and hold f2 when the screen goes black and wait for the bios setup utility to launch.
Select advanced, then system configuration, then boot mode
UEFI and CSM or legacy  (UEFI for Windows 8 and CSM or legacy for windows 7)
For windows 7 change to CSM or Legacy mode.
Third - Also in bios setup utility select - Security, then Secure Boot, then you have to disable secure boot for windows 7.
You will need to delete all partitions before installing windows 7 this is done forth step.
Forth - Insert your windows 7 disc and select custom install, your partitions should show up - click on each one and below you will see advanced drive options, click that and you will have options to format - format each one, then delete each one. You will be left with one raw partition, select to install and windows will do the rest while installing the operating system.
    Fifth - install drivers
    Installation order is important:
Install chipset driver then video driver before other drivers. Then install Toshiba Value added package before other applications

  • Cannot use the F1-12 functions on my Satellite C55-A-19K

    Hello there
Satellite C55-A-19K have an keyboard drivers?
I cannot use the F1-12 functions and cannot get the wireless on since its on the keyboard...
    Can some 1 help please?

    Hi
The basic setting on these models is that the special functions on the [F1]-[F12] keys are used without [FN].
So for example activating / deactivating the touchpad is done from [F5] (not [FN] [F5])
It is also possible to change this behaviour. Setting the Function-keys to traditional mode in the BIOS will revert back to the keys used along with [FN].
So activating / deactivating the touchpad in traditional function key mode, requires [FN] [F5].
So be sure to check your function key behavoiur - if you have set it to use [FN] first or not.
And keep in mind that in case the current mode is not what you want, you may change it.
    Hope this helps
    BR Tom

  • Satellite C55-A-1RG (PSCJGE) does not boot anything?

I've just bought this model today and it came win no OS installed and now I'm trying to install something on it so I can use it.
The issue is that it doesn't want to boot anything. I've tried Win7, Windows8 from DVD and USB and also downloaded Ubuntu and that did not worked either.
I did went to BIOS (or EFI I guess it's called now) and changed the boot order to DVD -> USB -> HDD but to no use.
Also secure boot is disabled. I even tried pressing F12 key and when prompted with the boot menu I've selected DVD and same no result. I just get no boot media recognized.
Any idea if there's anything that I can do to use my laptop?
    Thanks.

In order to boot using UEFI from the Windows 7 installation media, try this procedure.
-Power on and press F2 while the Toshiba logo is displayed to enter the UEFI Setup Menu.
-Go to the Security tab and set the "Secure Boot" setting to "Disabled".
-Go to the Advanced tab, enter "System Configuration" and set the Boot Mode to "CSM Boot."
-Press F10 to save and exit.

  • Satellite C55-A-1N1 - multi touch and downloading Toshiba Life Space

    Hello people,
My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite C55-A-1N1 and the Multi-touch functionality has stopped working. It is not recognising any swipes or pinches or rotation movements.
Furthermore, i would like to enquire how i can download Toshiba Life Space on this laptop please.
I would really appreciate your time and support in this matter please.
    Thank you very much!

    Hi
Check please touchpad settings (Properties for Synaptics) and touchpad functionality. Be sure all options you need are enabled.
    Toshiba Life Space
I presume you want to use Bulletin Board and Reel Time, right? If Im remembering well this was offered few years ago and it was worked with older machines and Windows 7. These applications can be downloaded on Toshiba support and download page but I don't know if they will work with Win8.

  • Satellite C55-A-1L0 won't start into Windows 8

    Hey guys.
I hope you can help me a little.
I have a Toshiba Satellite C55-A-1L0 here and it won't start into Windows 8.
I turn it on, the Toshiba welcoming screen appears, then I get a message on a black screen saying "checking media (fail)" and after a little while "no bootable device. Please restart"
I checked the BiOS and it doesn't seem to see the Hard Disk (says HDD- none) and even in the list of boot order I get a list with the DVD drive with exact name but for HDD not.
I tried to do a recocery with the F12 button and I get the list to choosw from where I want to boot but selecting harddisk doesn't work.
So I thought I'd try a linux live distribution to see where my hard disk is and to save my data (after some settings in the BIOS - boot mode CMS) but I cannot find it there too. (I have a mtab and fstab file, would it help if I posted it in here?)
Is my HDD broken? Can I try something else?
    Thanks a lot!

This notebook model is pretty new and I presume with valid warranty so I recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.
Using diagnostic tools they can check if problem is HDD or HDD controller.
On this virtual way we cannot say for sure what the problem is. In my opinion you should not waste your time because you cannot do much if there is hardware related issue.
Last step you can try is to set BIOS to default settings and check it again.

  • Satellite C55-B5355 Wifi intermittent connection, slow connection

I have a Satellite C55-B5355 with and Artheros Wifi chipset. Bought this about 6 months ago. Wifi for some reason has stopped wsorking well. Break connection to the netork intermittently. Very slow when trying to access. Downloaded and installed the latest driver from Toshiba, no good. Also tried settings in power profile so it's not turned off byt he system, but still no go. Tried Safe Mode with network loaded, no go. I've plugged it in direct to the router with a LAN cable and it works fine, so it's definitely a Wifi issue. This was working, strangely it's not now and nothing was essentially changed ont he system save for routine Windows updates. I noted that several others on the community boards have had similar issue with the Artheros Wifi. Anyone know what the story is??  Disappointed that this would happen one a new laptop. I've owned Toshiba's before with no issues. this is frustrating.

Guys, I just fix this problem. Don't know if it's gonna work for all of you but can give it a try.As I mentioned before, I own a L855-S5371 with a RTL8188CE wireless card. Windows 8.1 up to date.Tried many drivers from MS and Realtek without any luck until...I changed my router. Somehow my some-years-old laptop it's not compatible with this Cable modem router I have now.I must clarify, the router works OK for all other devices except my laptop.I linked an old router to the actual Cable modem router and everything works perfect now. There are some compatibility issues with these kind of routers since in my gf's house I have the exact same problem. The thing is that I had this router BEFORE without any problem. So maybe a Windows Update patch must be the culprit.Hope this helps for you guys.Keep it safe.

  • Toshiba Satellite C55 function key and Mic

I want to report that the Windows 10 upgrade is working well in Satellite C55 series, but some function keys are not responding (working) such as F12 Key that his function is enable/disable Airplane Mode, F5 key that his function is enable/disable touchpad. These function keys does not work, others run smoothly. So, I want to recover the key functionality.  In total the function keys are 12 from F1 to F12. attached manual of the laptop.  And when I plug my headphones (without microphone) to the laptop, the laptop can't receive sound from the integrated microphone, until I unplug my headphones, the laptop can receive sound from the integrated mic. It happens in Windows 8.1 and here in Windows 10. I don't what can I do?

  • Satellite C55-A doesn't work on battery power

    HI
    I HAVE AN TOSHIBA SATELLITE C55A (PSCG8E).
AFTER BATTERY FULLY CHARGED WHEN I UNPLUG THE AC ADAPTER THE COMPUTER SHUTDOWN.
I HAVE ALREADY CHANGED THE BATTERY AND NOW I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.
ANY UPDATE OF THE BIOS FOR THIS PROBLEM ?

    Hi
It looks like the battery shows you that its fully charged but indeed its not.
Its looks strange to me that the same issue appears using new battery.
However, since the Satellite C55-A series is new on the market and warranty is valid, I recommend contacting the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country to check the battery and other notebook hardware.
I assume you will need another, new battery but this should be done free of charge

  • Satellite C55-A - folders keep closing down without warning

    HI
I have a Toshiba Satellite C55-A-1CQ with plenty of free memory.
When I try and copy pictures from one folder to another it closes the folders and takes me back to the desktop screen.
I have tried moving single small files rather than groups of files but it has the same effect.
If anyone has any insight I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks
    Ben

To be honest I’ve never heard about such issue. I use different notebook since almost 18 years and I’ve never noticed such issue.
If there is some problem I think Toshiba has nothing to do with it and it must be Microsoft related issue.
Try to open folder with all files, mark them and use option copy. Go to the destination folder and use option paste. What happen when you do this, without moving the files from one to another window?
