Satellite C55-B5353 - how to disable touchpad sensor?

I'm using Windows 8.1 on a Toshiba Satellite C55-B5353. I need to disable the touchpad sensor. It's driving me crazy.
I never use swipes or touchpad gestures...I rely exclusively on keyboarding and manual use of a mouse. But on this computer, because of the touchpad sensor, I cannot type, keyboard, or use my mouse efficiently. That's because the sensor makes my cursor jump, or causes pages to scroll up and down, etc.
I've tried using the F5 key and the FN+F9 keys. It doesn't work.
Can someone please tell me what to do about this problem? I can't get any work done until I find a solution. I don't know if the problem is the Satellite C55-B5353 or Windows 8.1.

Satellite C55-B5353
I've tried using the F5 key and the FN+F9 keys.
It should be either F5 or Fn + F5. See the top of p. 146 in the User's Guide.

  • Satellite P50T-A016. how to disable edge swipe gestures

    Hello,
I have Satellite P50T-A016 laptop runing windows 8.1 and I'm attempting to turn off the charm bar. After researching various websites/forums, it appears the charm bar is hardwired into windows and Microsoft provides no option to turn it off directly.
These websites/fourms also suggest disabling edge swipes gestures will indirectly turn-off the charm bar.
After I de-select "control pannel -> mouse -> enable edge swipes" and reboot the laptop, edge swipes are still being detected.
Why is edge switpes still enabled?
    How to disable edge swipes?
    Regards
    Graham

    > I have looked at the link. It is address multifinger gestures and sensitivity. I also noticed that the link leaves the "Enable edge swipes" option selected. So I'm not sure how this link helps.
The link and the HowTO helps you to find the touchpad Synaptics settings!
It shows you where to disable or enable settings which would be also related to the touchpad edge swipes.
    > Regarding the charm bar, as a desktop mode user of windows I don't use it. The only time I have used it is when I have inadvertently turn it on when I switch between mouse (default), touchpad and touschscreen. It just get in the way even when hot corners are disabled.
Well, buddy you are not alone with this opinion but this is how it works and Microsoft decided to design the Win 8/8.1 system in this way
    > When the "Enable edge swipes" option deselected then right-edge gesture on the touchpad no longer triggers the charm bar opening. Great!,
Thats right and this is how it works
    > However, the right-edge gesture on the touchscreen is still enabled.
Dont mix touchpad with the touchscreen! The edge swipe settings in touchpad are NOT related to touchscreen!

  • Satellite Pro M70 - How to activate touchpad mouse by use of keyboard?

I somehow lost connection to the touchpad mouse. How can I activate it again by use of the keyboard (I don't have any external mouse)?
    Asia ;o)

As mentioned the touchpad can be disabled and enabled using the key combination FN+F9.
Usually if the touchpad has been disabled then a touchpad icon which appears in the task bar should contains a red crossed circle.
    Check this.

  • Satellite P500-193 - How to disable multimedia panel?

    Hello!
I've just bought a Toshiba Satellite P500-193. It's great but I've got one problem. During online games and other games my hand sometimes 'click' on the multimedia panel and then the windows media player stars and game is minimazes to system tray :(
How can I temporary disable this panel? Picture of this panel: http://yfrog.com/87toshibasatellitep50002j

    Hi buddy,
I have checked my Satellite P500 and it seems that you cant temporary disable these illumination buttons.
You can completely disable the illumination buttons in BIOS (BIOS setup > Advanced > System Configuration). There is an option called Function Button. You must set it to disabled.
But Im wondering about this problem, I dont have it while playing games. Alternative you can connect an external keyboard for playing games. :)

  • Satellite U300-152: How to disable Narrator from Ease of Access in Vista?

Everytime I log on the narrator dialog box shows up automatically. I just try to use this Ease of Access tool in Vista home premium but now I dont want it to be there automatically when windows starts. I went to control panel and go to Ease of Access but there is no button to disable it. Any ideas on how to do it? Thanks in advance.

I found it and did it. From the control panel, go to Ease of Access Center, then optimal visual display, then uncheck the box where the turn on narrator is checked. Click Apply or Ok. Viola its done. Then if you want it to apply to all users in the notebook, go to administrative settings and tick the box changes apply to all users then save it again.
.....Uncheck the box also on the turn on narrator inside the ease of access button to disable it when the screen is where you choose to click the users. it is shown below left of the screen.

  • Satellite L450-188 - How to disable ACPI.sys and update BIOS?

Hi, hoping someone can help me with a slight problem i'm having
    I recently bought a Satellite L450-188 (part number PSLY0E-03K019EN) running Windows 7 64bit
I use the laptop with a DJ program called Rane Serato Scratch Live, i've been having usb latency issues, getting usb dropouts when I try to use the program on its lowest audio buffer setting (which I expected to be able to do)
When I contacted the support team at Serato with my problem, they suggested I run a program to check the DPC times on my laptop, when I submitted the report to them, they said ACPI.sys was causing the issue, and suggested I might want to disable it, but i wasn't too confident with doing this.
The other suggestion was to try and find bios updates for my laptop, but I'm not too clued-up with this sort of thing, and I'm worried I might damage the laptop by maybe installing the wrong thing.
Can anyone give me any advice on this, as I'm not sure what to do
    thanks
    jim

    Hi jimbob_1,
Normally ACPI means Advanced Configuration and Power Interface and controls some power saving options.
So if something is wrong with ACPI.sys file I would recommend reinstalling Windows using Toshiba recovery disk.
By the way: Are you running preinstalled Windows version or another one?
As Akuma wrote you can download BIOS update on Toshiba website. http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/ > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
Your notebook belongs to PSLY0E series, therefore you can download newest BIOS.
Before you start the BIOS update, close all running programs and extract all files from zip-archive. You start the update as Administrator and connect AC/DC adaptor. Make also sure that battery is fully charged.

  • How to disable TouchPad 'tap to click' on Equium A200-15L under Vista

Until mid-December I had the Synaptics Touchpad 'tap to click' disabled. Then it somehow became enabled , the right-click menu item to change it greyed out and the mouse properties, settings etc contain no reference to it. It has been suggested that Windows Updates somehow interfered. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling touchpad drivers both directly from Synaptics and from the Toshiba site, but it hasn't helped. Apart from using the recovery disk and reformatting what can I do?
Toshiba Equium A200 15L Laptop (PSAE2E). Windows Vista Home Premium.

    Hi Juliana
I have read also about the Vista updates which could affect the touchpad settings for me it sound very mysterious
I thought about the same touchpad driver reinstallation procedure.
But it looks like this doesnt help to get the click functions back.
I think the recovery CD would be the last resort.
    Good luck

  • How to disable touchpad when usb mouse in on HP ENVY dv7-7259nr Notebook PC‏ using Windows 7

I would like to have my touch pad disabled when using my USB mouse or otherwise be able to manually disable it.  It is a pain to use when typing with the touch pad enabled but I would like to use the touch pad on occasions such as when I am traveling or if my mouse goes out. Not to mention, I would need to re-enable the touh pad if for some reason I have no mouse (keyboard shortcut?)
I am using windows 7 on my HP ENVY dv7-7259nr Notebook PC‏

This is what it looks like.
You should consider returning you notebook to the Windows 8 OS. There are many new features that it has that Windows 7 never did. Download use the free open source software called classic shell to give yourself a start button in Windows 8 that even has more features than Windows 7 start buton does. Once you use Windows 8 for a while you will enjoy it, especially the refresh feature and lower memory use.
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Windows 7 drivers.
    regards,
    erico

  • Satellite C55-A-1N1 - How to repair Windows 8.1 after trying Linux?

    Hi,
    Laptop: Satellite C55-A-1N1
In my infinite wisdom I tried to install Linux in a dual boot scenario like my old laptop. I shrunk the main windows partition in windows 8.1 first and then installed linux to that partition. After rebooting, Linux worked but not windows since I had to disable secure boot and set bios to CSM for linux to load.
After putting secure boot back to on and bios to EFI, windows no longer boots. I tried to repair the windows operating system by running the repair tools from another Win8.1 DVD but they didn't repair the booting. I subsequently learned that holding zero at boot brings you to the hidden recovery partition.........except my doesn't!
So, I have checked the windows and recovery partitions are intact but I cannot get to the recovery partition or repair the windows installation with windows 8.1 repair tools. No, I don't have any backups, other images or system restore options. Clever, aren't I? I only have the original recovery partition (which I can't access) and windows partition to play with. I don't want to lose my OEM Windows 8.1 license...
Any ideas how to salvage this windows installation?
Thanks in advance for any help.

You have made the same mistake as many other people. On this forum we have discussed so many times how it works and tried to explain how all this works.
In users manuals is clearly described that every notebook owner should create recovery media (DVD or USB) and this created recovery media can be used for recovery image installation in case that HDD recovery option doesn't work or in case that HDD is defective and must be replaced.
As I can see you don't have this recovery media. Fact is that HDD recovery installation can be started if notebook has factory settings only. After your Linux experiment this option is gone and there is no way to start it again.
What you can do now? I know it sounds stupid now but if you want to install original recovery image you need to order new recovery media and it can be done on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

  • Satellite C55-A-1R8 - Touchpad interference issue

    I have Satellite C55-A-1R8, using Windows 8.1.
The Synaptics touchpad has always given some unpredictable results, whatever setings I have used or cancelled.
For example, it suddeny loses the ability to receive a double click, even though the icon still has 'tap to click' ticked; when I do click it, the cursor flies off into the top right corner of the screen and is difficult to control again.
The buttons continue to work normally, though, But if I sleep or hibernate the computer things are normal again immediately it wakes.
Also, the pad often picks up and moves icons/files without double clicking. I installed the most recent Synaptics driver update, but no change.
However, I am told that the casework on this model is so thin that fingers resting on it below the keyboard can interfere with the touchpad commands, and am beginning to suspect that this might be the reason for some of the odd behaviour.
If it is, can I insulate it with anything to prevent this happening?

    Thanks for your interest.
Yes, I have varied the touch sensitivity and also the gesture options. And I suspected a problem from when the laptop was new, but I had moved up from XP to Windows 8.1, which I found very confusing for a long while.
And the machine itself feels very different from the firmer keys of my previous (HP) model which did not permit 'touchscreen-type' features on the touchpad.
For a long time I thought it was me! Then that it might be some kind of clash between the system software and one of the programs I had installed. And for a while it appeared to happen only when I was online; but a week away from any possible wifi connection was not entirely problem-free.
The trouble is that this cursor problem is completely unpredictable, and I can't induce it at will!
I tried insulating the casework with bubblewrap, had no repetition of the problem for over a week, then it started to happen again.
I think the factory settings might be the only way forward - at least I now have a better idea of how 8.1 works.

  • How to disable Standby/Hibernation on Satellite Pro U series

    Hi,
I have on my Satellite Pro U series Windows Vista Professional installed.
During the defragmentationprocess my machine goes automatically into standby.
Does anyone know how to disable standby temporarely, so the defragmentation process can finish properly.
Edited by: Admin on 01-Dec-2007 08:13

    Hi there,
to disable the Standby/Hibernation on your system you must simply go into "Control Panel" and open the "powersaver" to edit the powersaver settings.
The Powersaver contains profiles where all powersaving related settings are defined. So you can edit such profile and disable the standby/hibernation to perform your defragmentation.
Would be useful if you post which system you have..
