Satellite C655 - Easiest way to burn a DVD

Hi
I have never had a laptop before. Also new to windows 7. Trying to find the simplest way to burn a DVD from another DVD on this new laptop. I know I have to put the info from the DVD on to the laptop. And then burn it on to a blank DVD. I can put the DVD in to the drive. Thats a great start !!! I am looking for the simplest way to "rip" and burn. Even if it means downloading (hopefully free) burning software.
On my desktop CD burner it was pretty easy to burn from a CD to another CD. 2 trays and software to burn. I know this is more complex. I am somewhat computer challenged, btw. Thanks :)

Hi lili60,
The most DVDs and CDs that you can buy are copy protected so I doubt you will be able to copy them. Usually you can only copy disks from friends with private pictures, music, etc. but common disks are copy protected.
For burning disks you can use the freeware tool CD Burner XP. Thats really nice tool that provide all necessary functions for burning disks. You can download the tool here:
http://cdburnerxp.se/
On the same page you can also find an online help how the program works.
If you have more questions, please let us know! :)

  • What is the easiest way to burn data from a ext HD to an ext DVD drive?

I have a Maxtor Touch III with 2 partitions on it. I want to wipe the 2nd partition clean but it has data on it. I just bought a Plextor External DVD-DL drive. So what would be the easiest way to burn the discs? There is about 40Gb worth of data to burn and I have all kinds of backup utilities, (Retrospect Express, Intego's backup, etc....I will admit I am not well versed at using Retrospect, in fact the only way I know how to backup is by doing a Duplicate Backup. So what do you think?

I personally use Roxio's Toast 7 for all my burning needs, and it's the finest so far (also used DiscBlaze in the past). Click the "DATA" tab, and add whatever files you want to burn, that's it.
You mentioned you just bought a Plextor external DVD drive, is it the Plextor 716UF (USB/Firewire)? That's the same one i have and it's fantastic.

  • What is the best way to Burn a DVD Movie

What is the best way to Burn a DVD Movie, do I need a specific program?

If  you're trying to copy a commercial movie and burn it to disc, then it is expressly against the Terms of Use of this community to describe any method to illegally copy or circumvent copy protection DVD's
If you've made a movie and want to author a DVD, then you should use iDVD, Toast or, if  you're really skilled, Final Cut Pro X.
If you just want to move a movie to a DVD, which probably won't play on a DVD player, then just insert a blank DVD, and move it over from the finder.  Click burn.

  • Best way to burn a DVD+R DL disc?

I was wondering what everyone thought was the best way to burn a DVD+R DL disc.
This is how i do it and let me know if you have better results doing it a different way.
    1. Never burn from DVD SP, always use Toast instead.
    2. Select All Regions (including #7) in DVD SP
    3. Build/Format, then select Harddrive, .img file
    4. Use Toast and select Copy, then Image File.
    1. I never burn in DVD SP because it uses the fastest write speed that your disc/burner does and this seems to have issues.
2&3. I always select All Region because DVD SP by default doesn't select #7 (no clue to why that is) and if you got to harddrive using .img, then that is CMF format and CMF needs all region (RCM Value of 0). Otherwise DVD SP will have different region codes in the MAIN.DAT vs. the CONTROL.DAT. 0 and possibly 64 or 40.
    4. With Toast you can set the write speed. I just use 2X and this takes 40 minutes or so for a full DVD+R DL disc.
    But..
    Is this the best way?
Or is the DVD-ROM (UDF) option a better way?
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Brian,
Not that this really helps you solve the dvdsp thing but if they are regular clients maybe buy a cheap(ish) dvd player that plays your discs fine and send them it. Explain the ±DL issues. Say the authoring is fine but the ±DL media thing is a mine field so here is a player so proofing goes smoother in the future.
If Toast is working better then send a media input form with the proof stating where the LB will be on the master etc.
I'd like to hear anything anyone else has to say but I'm sure we're aware of most of the options already.
FWIW, if you're running 10.4.x you can type drutil info in Terminal and hit enter to see what types of media the attached drives can burn,
    Good luck,

  • Easiest way to burn files to USB Superdrive

My FIL back in the Uk has a new iMac and a USB Superdrive. He wants to know the easiest way of burning photos to a disc. I don't have one so this is why I am asking.
Is it easiest to open Finder, insert a disc then select what he wants to burn and drag them to a disc icon? drive ? and then he selects a burn icon or menu item to burn to disc ?
He is in his late 70's so needs a step by step instruction list.
    Many thanks.

I meant exactly what I said.
When you drag an unburned CD to the Trash, you will see that the Trash icon changes to the Burn icon and it will burn the CD.  After burning, the finished CD will still be on your desktop.  You can then eject the CD.
So, the step by step is:
    Insert a blank CD
A window will open, asking you if you want to open the CD with the Finder
    Click OK
At this point there will be an "Untitled" CD on your desktop.  (Depending on the version of OS X you are running this will be either a CD icon or a blue Folder icon with the burn image on the cover of the folder.)
Drag the photos to the blank CD (Folder).  Alternatively you can open a Finder window and drag the photos to the "CD drive"
When you are ready to burn, drag the CD icon (Folder) that's on your Desktop to the Trash.  As soon as you start to drag the CD icon (Folder), you will see that the Trash icon will change to the yellow-and-black burn icon.  Drag it to the Trash.
The CD will now get burned

  • What's the fastest easiest way to burn an iMovie into an iDVD

I created an iMovie for my cousin who is going on college interviews tomorrow. I did not realize that in order to burn a DVD, I would have to create a whole new project in iDVD with stills, videos, music etc...
I need to burn the movie quickly. Any suggestions on a simple way to burn a movie onto a DVD would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Tracy

    Hi
    a. Use iMovie HD 6
    b. Close iMovie and locate the movie project icon
    c. Open iDVD and select an as simple menu possibly eg Brushed Metal (old themes)
    d. Import movie or just drop it into iDVD window - but not into a button zone. (Import is easiest)
    e. I choose
    • Pro-Quality encoding (handles up to 120 minutes incl menu)
    • DVD-R disks
    • Verbatim
    • x1 burnspeed (can be set in iDVD pref/Advance)
    • minimum of 25Gb free space on internal boot hard disk
    Limitations
    • iDVD only cares about duration of movie (NOT GBs at all)
    • SlideShows limited to 99 photos each (or do iit in iMovie)
    • iMovie'08 and 09 not tools if High Quality is of need from miniDV material

  • What is the easiest way to copy a DVD?

I have a DVD with a video that I downloaded from youtube.com What is the best way to burn a copy for a friend?
    Thanks!

Use disk utility... insert your DVD. When it mounts and is visible in the column at left, go to New>Image from 'DVD NAME'. When it finishes, you will have a .dmg file on your hard drive. Double-click to open it. It will appear as a mounted volume. In disk utility, click to highlight and then click on 'burn'.

  • Easiest way to Create a DVD

    Hi all,
How do I create a DVD from final cut pro. I've just finished creating my timeline and edits, now I want to create a DVD out of it. I've gone through the process of exporting a Quicktime file and importing that into DVD studio pro, then burning a DVD. How do I simplify the process. Can I use a external DVD recorder (firewire) and print to that?
Your thoughts/suggestions? How would you create a DVD? What's the best way and quickest way to do that?
    Thanks in advance.

#42 - Quick and dirty way to author a DVD
Shane's Stock Answer #42 - David Roth Weiss' Secret Quick and Dirty Way to Author a DVD:
The absolute simplest way to make a DVD using FCP and DVDSP is as follows:
    1. Export a QT movie, either a reference file or self contained using current settings.
    2. Open DVDSP, select the "graphical" tab and you will see two little monitors, one blue, one green.
    3. Select the left blue one and hit delete.
    4. Now, select the green one, right click on it amd select the top option "first play".
    5. Now drag your QT from the broswer and drop it on top of the green monitor.
    6. Now, for a DVD from an HD source, look to the right side and select the "general tab" in the track editor, and see the Display Mode, and select "16:9 pan-scan."
    7. Hit the little black and yellow burn icon at the top of the page and put a a DVD in when prompted. DVDSP will encode and burn your new DVD.
    THATS ALL!!!
NOW...if you want a GOOD LOOKING DVD, instead of taking your REF movie into DVD SP, instead take it into Compressor and choose the BEST QUALITY ENCODE (2 pass VBR) that matches your show timing. Then take THAT result into DVD SP and follow the rest of the steps. Except you can choose "16:9 LETTERBOX" instead of PAN & SCAN if you want to see the entire image.
If you want to output directly to a DVD recorder, you will need a capture device of some sort. If DV, then routing thru your camera will work.

  • Easiest way to produce NTSC DVD from PAL encore project?

I have a PAL Encore project with 25fps assets and subtitles. What's the easiest way to make an NTSC DVD from this project? Encore won't let me edit the quality settings to change from NTSC to PAL. These settings are greyed out. I take it they are dictated by the assets. Can anyone suggest how to make an NTSC project easily from this Encore project? I don't want to go back to the original footage. I want to just convert it from these Mpeg-2 files in the Encore project.
Any help would be much appreciated.

What Richard said. I'll add three things.
Encore won't let me edit the quality settings to change from NTSC to PAL. These settings are greyed out. I take it they are dictated by the assets.
They are dictated by your selections when you created the project. And NTSC vs PAL are not settings that can be changed in the project settings once created.
Regarding reusing menus. The files accessed by the Encore library for DVD projects are different for NTSC vs PAL. They have NTSC or PAL in the filename, but you don't see this from inside Encore. (They do not vary for Bluray menus.) You can take your NTSC project menus, "save as file," and then "import as menu" into a new PAL project. They will be the "wrong" pixel size and aspect ratio, but Encore may correct the par. I have never tried this. But if you get oddities doing it this way, in the new PAL project, add a PAL menu, edit in photoshop, and copy the button groups and such from the NTSC version of the menu to the PAL menu. That might work.
What I see in most of these "convert PAL from NTSC" threads is that virtually all NTSC disks play on current PAL equipment. Many users asking your question decide not to convert. that is especially true, because Richard's "export as NTSC" is not as simple as it seems.

  • HT1583 When burning a DVD of photos and music from iDVD, the photos blur right before the transitions and the music has about 5 second glitches here and there before the music starts again. Is there any way to burn the DVD without this happening?

Each year I am in charge of making a slideshow of photos and music for my annual company meeting. I always use iDVD to set up my photos and music and then burn the DVD to play at the meeting. Every time I burn the DVD, it blurs right before the transition of the photo. It has always done this and I'm not sure why. It will also make the music glitch in a few spots for about 5 seconds or more. If I burn another DVD to try it again, the glitches will still be there, but in different spots. I've tried the highest quality of DVD's possible and this still happens. What can I do to fix this problem?

    Try disabling transitions altogether!
There is a technical reason that this breakup happens - it is to do with how slideshows can be saved within the DVD specification, they can either be recorded as 'video streams' or as a collection of 'still images'.
When you add transitions iDVD has no option but to use a video stream, this can result in terrible 'breakup' because the mpeg 2 encoder isn't designed to handle scenes that are static with a sudden short change. You can see 'artefacts' in the video stream…
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compression_artifact
'Still image slideshows' avoid the issue altogether by only showing a static image, no video compression is used & because the scene doesn't transition so it shouldn't breakup.
NOTE: Music on the slideshow is irrelevant, both types can use a soundtrack.
I cannot remember if it is possible to force iDVD to only make still image slideshows, I always use DVD Studio Pro to correctly setup DVD's. I'd suggest you use the option to save the DVD to a disk image & then open that disk image so that DVD Player can preview it, that should save on the number of test disks you burn.
If you cannot make it avoid using video streams you may be ether off making your own video slideshow in iMovie & then import that into iDVD. It may eventually look better despite being a video stream!
iDVD isn't really condusive to professional levels of control.

  • What is the easiest way to import my DVD collection in to iTunes 12?

    Hi all,
I'd be grateful for advice on the best way to import my DVD collection - all legitimately purchased - in to my iTunes collection. I'm currently running iTunes 12 via a 2013 iMac running OS 10.9.4, on a home network including an Apple TV unit. There seems to be a lot of third party software options available, but I'm not sure which offer the best solution or, indeed, if Apple offers the ability to do this via iTunes itself.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Need a way to burn commercial DVD's to iPOD.

After I purchased the MPEG-2 option I disovered that QT7 won't play back CSS encoded DVD's. Is there a way to get commercial DVD's to iPOD? Thanks.

  • Easiest way to burn out a DVD ?

    Hello,
I want to try about 10 mins of some footage on a DVD-R or DVD+R disc.
Is this possible to do from Premiere ? or must I shoot it through Encore ? ( even if all I want is a simple movie on disc, without any menus or anything else )
    Thanks,
    Dave.

David, that's a good tip similar to
this in the Premiere Pro wiki as a work-around for Premiere Pro 1.0 to create a DVD folder.
