Satellite C655 - Windows OS doesnt start anymore

I have a C series and it was working fine yesterday. This morning i turn it on and you can hear it starting as usual and then the first screen (Toshiba screen) is visual and then it goes black with a hash mark at the top left corner and stays like it and wont move forward.
Any hints on how to get it working right?

Blinking cursor in the left upper corner is mostly a sign of HDD malfunction or RAM problems.
Therefore you should check if HDD is listed in BIOS (first BIOS page) properly.
In case its not listed, the HDD is faulty and has to be replaced.
In case its listed, you should check if you could reinstall the system using Toshiba Recovery disk (medium) or other Windows installation disk.
If its not possible, the RAM modules should be tested, checked and if necessary replaced.

Satellite C655-S5082 stuck at starting windows. I started system restore back to out of box stated. Everything went smooth untill about the third resart an now it stuck at the starting windows screen. tried a repair from disk ith no luck there.

Turns out it was something in the BIOS causing the issue. This linked helped me out.

  • Satellite C655 Won't Play Sound Anymore

My Toshiba Satellite C655 won't play sound through my built-in speakers.
The sound is turned up, it is not muted, and the internal speakers are the default. I can plug in my headphones and it will work, but it won't come through the speakers. This is the first time I've had this problem and I've had the laptop for about 5 months now.
    Please help!

    Hello
Please click with right mouse button on sound symbol in task bar and choose option layback devices.
    Is option Speakers listed there?
Is it set to default device? If not define it as default device (right mouse button on it and choose option Set as default device.
Please check all this and send some feedback.

  • Windows 7 wont start anymore ; bootmgr is missing

    Hi there,
Santa brought me a Toshiba laptop this year and I spent the night trying to install Arch Linux on it.
The machine came with two partitions, one containing Windows and one containing silly restauration files. I shrinked the second one to 10Go since it didnt need the 180Go it had, thus leaving room for Linux. This operation was made using Windows' graphical tool.
Then I booted on an Arch CD and entered manual setup for partitions.
    It was like this :
    sda1 * File System Unknown
    sda2 NTFS //Windows
    sda3 NTFS //Useless restauration
I made it this way :
    sda1 * Linux (83)
    sda2 NTFS //Windows
    sda3 NTFS //Useless restauration
    sda4 Extended
    sda5 Linux (83)
    sda6 Linux Swap / Solaris (82)
I mounted the filesystem's root to sda5 and the swap to sda6, and I told grub to install in sda1.
Windows wouldnt show up in grub ; I tried to tweak menu.lst but failed at solving the issue, now I suppose the Windows section was a comment but I didnt notice back then. Thus I thought I had done something wrong and I booted on the arch CD again and this time I mounted /boot to sda1 and installed grub to sda (and I assume sda meant MBR).
Windows still didnt show up in grub's menu. I looked at menu.lst again and noticed the windows section was preceded by # which made it useless. I removed the sharps and it still doesnt work (see below).
    Now fdisk -l outputs :
    sda1 Linux (83)
    sda2 * HPFS/NTFS  // (Why the fuck is this one bootable ? Oops ?)
    sda3 HPFS/NTFS
    sda4 Extended
    sda5 Linux (83)
    sda6 Linux Swap / Solaris (82)
    menu.lst has :
    title Arch Linux
    root (hd0,0)
    kernel blablabla
    initrd blablabla
    title Arch Linux
    root (hd0,0)
    kernel blababla
    initrd blablabla
    title Windows
    rootnoverify (hd0,1)
    makeactive
    chainloader +1
Now Windows appear in the grub menu but when I try to boot it it says "BOOTMGR is missing, hit ctrl+alt+suppr to reboot".
    Arch Linux still works fine.
I think I can fix the misplaced * by reinstalling again and remanaging partitions but I'm clueless about how to launch Windows 7 again. Could it be possible that the partition's content was wiped during the Archlinux install (I never touched it in the partition managing menus nor mounted anything there) ?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Thank you pointone, you helped me understanding what was going on and it's all good now.
sda3 was a recovery partition (there was a readme on it) and it was used when I put the recovery DVD in the machine. This DVD wasn't able to reinstall just the bootloader so it put everything back to factory settings.
I started all over and got it working, this time leaving untouched sda1 and putting grub on the MBR. My dual boot now works
Also, thanks Ghost1227 for the good laugh

  • Satellite A500 - Windows doesn't start, how to recover now?

    Hello guys,
Recently , a week ago, i bought a new Satellite A500- 1HK. I installed everything and after i installed Office 2007, after the restart my PC stack on Windows 7 Logo. Pls notice that at this time a had an external HDD connected. That was my first mistake.
My second mistake was that after 5 minutes of inactivity i powered off my PC (not shutdown) and that was it. My PC totally crashed.
My third mistake was that i did not make recovery disks from the beginning and unfortunately i dont have recovery CDS. The recovery program its on a separate partition of my laptop.I tried to solve the problem as follows: I boot the PC, pressing F8 and i went to the repair menu. At the first time after the repair nothing was happened. after this i tried to proceed to the recovery option. i choose the US language and pressed enter. Nothing was happened. the screen shows an error saying: You must log in to access sytem recovery Options. If you are having trouble logging in , please contact your computer administrator for assistance. Click ok to restart the computer.
The only thing i imagine is that the recovery partition also crashed. What can i do now? I alrweady ordered the Recovery CD's from Toshiba and expecting them during the 2 next weeks.
What is your opinion . What happened? I hope that the rexcovery programm will work with CD'S and i will face no problem any more.
    Thank you.
    Leonardos

    Hi buddy,
    > I alrweady ordered the Recovery CD's from Toshiba
So in my opinion your question is already answered. Jus wait for the Toshiba recovery disk to restore factory settings.
If HDD recovery doesnt work, your only option is Toshiba recovery disk and now its time to wait for it. Im sure you will get the disk as fast as possible.
    Good luck! :)

  • Windows doesn't start anymore after re-adding disk

Im running OSX 10.8.3 on a mid 2012 Macbook Pro.
I tried to install Windows 8 Pro with bootcamp and initially i ran into the problem that the Win Setup did not accept the bootcamp partition for installation because it is not on the first disk of the system. I have a SSD (disk0) with MacOSX and a HDD (disk1) with some data which i partioned with bootcamp to also hold the bootcamp partition.
After some research i figured i have to temporarily detach the SSD from the system to allow Windows to install in the bootcamp partition. I did this and it worked perfectly. After making sure that Windows is installed correctly and booting without a problem i reattached the SSD and that is where things went bad.
Now when i choose windows as startup device i get the "No bootable device --- insert boot disk and press any key" error.
There is another very long thread in this forum which solves a similar problem (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4144252?start=0&tstart=0).
But in that case the problem was that someone added another partition on the same disk which lead to 5 partitions on one disk. That is not my problem since i have only 2 (4 counting the hidden ones).
That is why i am hesitating to do the heavy MBR tweaking suggested in the other thread. I think it is probably not necessary and i would mess it up for sure...

  • After BIOS update Satellite L350-172 doesn't start anymore

    Satellite L350-172 Bios-Update from bios-20090203164614 to bios-201002250
I just updatet the BIOS of my notebook from 1.60 to 2,20. Now the Notebook doesn't start any longer.
"It was stopped for reason not to damage the Computer" - blue schreen.
How can I downgrade the bios again? Or - what have I to change in the bios-settings?

    Hi schuwe,
Im a little bit confused about your posting. How do you tell your BIOS not to restart?
Anyway, after BIOS update you should load the default settings in BIOS.
Did you choose the right BIOS especially for your model?

  • IBook doesnt start anymore (red, green & blue screens)

Today at college, i just wanted to get my iBook out of the standby and nothing happened. Black screen, just the DVD inside it ran and even the restart buttons didnt work, only taking out the battery brought it down.
Then i restarted it and some grey screens came up, the a full red, a full green and a full blue screen came up, then grey again. Again, restartin via powerbutton didnt work,. only taking out the battery.
Then, after several restarts, it actually started the system and i logged on. After about 2 min the screen dimmed and from the top a black screen came up. Again, only taking out the battery got it down. That repeated several times and now the system isnt eve restarting. Sometimes it actually plays the startup sound, sometimes it just starts the fan but doesnt do anything. Pressing the alt-button worked about 2 times but still, nothing happens. When im home, i will try to insert the system disk (there is still a dvd inside...) and start from the cd but that "not-startin" seems to be a hardware problem.
And there is another problem in solving this one: My FireWire port doesnt work, that blew up mysteriously, but the Geniusses in the AppleStore could only tell me it would cost £550 to replace the logicboard...
Thanks if you got any help.

Well the GPU in the 1.2 GB machine is a ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 these have a tendency to fail. I have one here with a bad 9200. I'm negotiating with a fellow for a used working board and should know this weekend. I have also been looking for a replacement chip since my sources tell me that this chip is also in Compaqs, IBMs and Sonys.
It's also possible that the chip needs reballing. Look for that term in these forums as well as "shim fix'. If that works it could run for a long time with that fix. If not then probably the chip went bad and since the FireWire is bad you might consider a used board. They can be found on eBay for ~ $200 or less.
BTW plugging a bad cable or device into the FireWire can cause it to blow. I have a friends external HD here that has actual scorch marks on the input chips (it also blew the FireWire port on her G4 tower).

  • Satellite P100-286 won't start anymore

    Hi,
I have a P100-286 which I don't use very often but today I tried to switch it on and all I get is a flash from the lights near the speakers and the power light comes on for a few seconds then nothing.
The battery light is lit up red but it also won't start if I take the battery out a connect it to the mains?
Is it likely the laptop is dead or could it just be the battery?
I have only had it a few months and don't use it very often so the battery has not been under much load

    Hmm sounds not good!
    Try this firstly;
Remove the battery and disconnect the AC adaptor for about 20min.
After this short period, connect the battery and the AC adaptor again and try to start the notebook.
If this simply procedure does not help, you will have to contact the ASP in your country for a notebook check.
    Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

  • System doesnt start anymore

    Hello,
I have Macbook Pro 13 (without Retina). I tried to updated to OSX Mavericks. The download went good, installation started, after restart it was smothly contiunuing. After I needed to go a way for a while (Installation was almost done). I came back after two hours and I have just the white screen with apple logo and sign of loading. I left it like this for another 3 hours (so 5 hours total) and nothing... Still sign of loading.. Can somebody help me?,
    Thank you,
    Metodej

    Hi Metodej,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your MacBook Pro is unresponsive and wont boot to OS X, you may need to shut it down by holding down the power button.
After this, I'd recommend starting the computer in safe mode to allow it to verify your hard disk and OS X installation:

  • My Satellite C50D-A-13L doesnt start

When I want to turn my laptop nothing happens.
Does anyone else have this problem?

    Hello Francine
When you turn on the computer, do you have the Toshiba logo appears or not?
Whether it is a software problem (loading windows) and I need you reformatted your hard drive with backup DVD (it happened to me the other day). Otherwise, if the Toshiba logo does not appear, I think it's a hardware problem (the problem in general graphics chipset on the motherboard, and there is trickier. if your computer is still under warranty, do play ... it happened to my sister and out of warranty repair cost about 300 Euros.
There are plenty of questions to ask in your case, if you have the Toshiba logo appears it would be better for you.
    Good luck.

  • Satellite L650 - Windows doesn't start up

    Hey.
Today I was browsing some YouTube videos and chatting in Skype when my computer completely froze and after a few seconds a blue screen appeared for a while, saying something along " System has shut down to prevent damage"(something along those lines, in Portuguese, I apologize for the bad translation though).
After that a screen with my ip, mac address and other stuff and it kept trying to obtain TCIP (I think?) but it was always like ". . . . . ." and again " . . . . . . ". After that I restarted it a few times, trying to get past that screen, also it always took some time to get past the screen with Toshiba's logo. Then I pressed F12 and got into BIOS (i think?) and changed boot type to Fast (it was Normal before). After that I couldn't do anything else.
Now every time I attempt to start up the computer theres an underscore in the top left corner blinking and after a bit, when I press a key I hear a loud BEEP.
    What can I do?
    Thanks.

    Hi
It seems that something went wrong with the installed OS!
The blinking cursor means that the OS cannot be found and therefore the notebook does not boot the OS.
I guess you didnt create the recovery disk. Right?
Well, in such case you have to order the disk in order to install the Toshiba image.
Here you can order the recovery disk:

PS: is HDD recognized in BIOS?

  • After shut down Satellite P300-150 doesn't start anymore

I have a P300-150, it shut down a day or so ago mid-use. I thought it was just a protective thermal shut down as I'd had it on all day watching dvds / online tv. It wouldn't come back up straight away so I let it cool off for a while but it still won't come back up. Tried it battery in and battery out to no avail. I don't even get as far as POST/BIOS.
Anyone know the best course of action or other things to check? The PSU is working as my multi-meter sees a healthy 19-odd volts from it.
    Cheers.

Im afraid you need professional help with this so I recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service and ask for help.
There is no special key combination that will bring your notebook to the life again.

  • Windows 7 worked fine and now won't boot/start anymore?

My little brother just bought a used 24" iMac (early 2008) at the beginning of this year.
He installed a Boot Camp and Windows 7 for gaming.
Everything worked fine and he played with iMac earlier today, but now he phoned me that Windows won't start anymore. He gets a black screen with blinking line after booting to Windows partition. He said that the black screen used to flash everytime windows started, but now he's stuck to that black screen. He tried to repair windows with the installation DVD, but there was only options to restore system from backup image file or drive, which (of course) my brother hadn't made.
Is there any way to fix this problem or does he have to install Windows again?

Get a book. Spend more time researching. Make sure not to install x-ware or anything that isn't needed and compatible. You should invest in backups, and use restore check points.
Try getting chkdsk to also look for bad sectors.
And uninstall whatever was last installed. And one plus for Windows, you can rollback a driver too.
Could happen if they ran too low on free disk space. Windows 7 SP1 is due out, and that will need 9GB of free space to install and update (you get some back but good idea to have the extra space).
Clean out all the temp files that can clog a drive, I use CCleaner daily and sometimes there is 500MB to dump.
A good backup/clone and Boot Camp support program:

  • Jstcpd daemon doesnt start

    Hello,
we have problems on our sles10.3+oes2sp3 2-node cluster with the jstcpd (daemon?).
After a reboot of node2 (no software updates) the jstcpd doesnt start anymore. Can someone tell me where the problem might be and what the implications of jstcpd not starting are?
also, now on this node2, if we migrate our data resource the resource becomes comatose. Any ideas on that?
    thx,
    hugo

    Hi,
jstcpd is a daemon for NSS. Please also post the question on Storage/NSS forum.
With regard to the comatose resource, please check /var/opt/novell/log/ncs/resource_name.*.out for clues. I won't be surprised if it's stuck at a "nss" command. Fixing the "jstcpd" problem should make the command go smoothly.
