Satellite C660-1d7 - Wireless disconnects when not on mains

I have been having increasing problems with the wireless on my C660-1d7 . Every time I take it off the mains, the wireless drops, and i have to plug it into Ethernet, which kind of takes the whole point away from being mobile.
I've updated the drivers on the system to the most recent (taken from toshiba website) yet it still drops. Its becoming annoying as i work from home, so have VPN loaded, so every time i lose the net, I have to keep logging back into that, which takes time away. i also use a VOIP phone which again will cut off.
Wireless LAN is Realtek RTL8118CE
Can anyone help as its driving me potty.

dear sir
i have the same problem .when the charger is unbluged the wireless is down and no more net on the laptop .i tried recovery for the windows ,i tried to use helpful answers from the forum and google ,the only way is when i put the power plan on high performance which reduces the battry life ,or i must put on the charge all the time ..i didnt have this problem before ,i used the laptop almost 5 months but from 2 weeks this problem appeared .i have another laptop and it works properly no internet cuts ..i really need your help ..waiting for your answer ,thanks

  • Re: Satellite C660-1D7 - Installing latest Intel display driver

    Hi
I have a Toshiba Satellite C660-1D7 running Windows 7 64bit Home Premium with Intel Core i3 [email protected] GHz CPU and 4GB RAM. I use my laptop a lot for graphics etc. with Adobe CS5 and Corel Paint shop Photo Pro x3 etc.
After only 2 months I got an HDD alert saying it would fail soon. So under warranty 2 weeks ago Toshiba arranged for an authorized dealer to collect and replace the HDD which they did. Ever since then I cannot use my graphics software. Now, I remember when I first got my laptop I had the same problem and it was to do with my graphics/video card and OpenGL. Toshiba site and my own laptop kept saying that all drivers were up to date. But when I went on Intel site I found that Intel HD Graphics was not up to date. As soon as I updated I was able to use all my graphics programs.
The drivers installed without any problems at all. This time, although I gave a recovery disk to the repair dealer, when my graphics software was not working. I went to Intel site and once again there are more up to date drivers available. However, when I try to install them it says that I now have modified drivers from the laptop manufacturer and I must go to the Toshiba site. Either way, the drivers I need are not on the Toshiba site and I have tried every way possible I think to install the ones I want.
    Please help!
The programs do open when I click e.g. Paint shop pro x3 but when I go to save a photo or edit it hangs, and 'not responds' and I must use Task Manager to end process. I need the same drivers that I had on my laptop before the HDD was replaced but cant get them from Intel as Toshiba seems to have opted out of updates.
All help welcome! Many thanks in advance. John Scott

    Hi John,
The problem is that only Toshiba drivers are pretested on your system. Installing other drivers happens on your own risk because they are not tested by Toshiba.
Anyway, just download the drivers on Intel website. If setup.exe file shows you an error message about not compatible drivers install them manually (I know this message from my notebook). Therefore navigate to device manager > right click on graphic card > update driver. Then choose the advanced installation where you can choose the driver and directory yourself. Now you are able to install this driver :)

  • Satellite C660-13R - Wireless and Ethernet do not work after format

    Hello there,
I just formatted my laptop and I only get Internet connection with a usb wireless antenna...
Neither ethernet, nor wireless seem to work. Before the format it worked fine.
    Here is the product
    http://www.toshiba.co.uk/discontinued-products/satellite-c660-13r/
    Please help with a solution...
Should I consider death of the adapter and stop trying?

Ok you have formatted your laptop but we don't know what have you installed and which OS version do you use.
As I can see in notebook specification your notebook was delivered with preinstalled Windows 7. This original version (recovery image) contains all necessary drivers and every hardware component is installed and configured properly so everything should work well.
It is very important to know what have you installed and what is teh status of communication devices like LAN and WLAN cards. If both devices are installed properly LAN should work without any limitation but WLAN card must be enabled and I don't see the reason why you should not be able to connect your machine using WLAN connection.
If possible post some detailed info about preinstalled OS version and hardware status.

  • Satellite C660 - Re-installed WLAN driver not working

    Hi
I cleared a lot of unused programs from a Toshiba Satellite C660-1JH, and accidently removed the Realtek WLAN Driver.
The laptop obviously now has no internal wireless connection. When I realised I managed to find the driver online, successfully downloaded and installed it. I restarted the computer in order for the changes to take affect but nothing happened.
I removed the driver and all associated files and then took it from another site to check that there wasn't anything wrong with the contents of the file. I got exactly the same result twice more. I've been checking the uninstall program list each time to make sure the driver does exist.
My question is does anyone know if there's something else I need to do after installing the WLAN driver to enable it to operate, or if there's another decent internal wireless adaptor I can download from the web that works with this model.
Apologies for my vague I.T knowledge, hope somebody can help!
    Thanks

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there.
Fact is that your notebook has Realtek RTL8188CE WLAN card inside.
Dont search the driver Googling around. Right driver you can download from Toshiba WLAN portal http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/
Install it, check status in device manager, try to enable WLAN card using FN key combination and send some feedback.
Driver offered on WLAN portal is the same that you got with original preinstalled recovery image (WIN7 64BIT HOME PREMIUM).

  • Satellite C660-11W - Num pad does not work

    Hi!
I have a Toshiba Satellite C660-11W, who I bought 10 months ago. Since October, the num pad of my laptop does not work, but when I push the button "Num Lock", it makes a sound like I had activated the sticky keys.
How do I solve this problem?

    Hi
Sounds a little bit like keyboard malfunction.
I think the service technician should need to initialize the Numpad function by Test & Diagnostic software and should replace the keyboard if the test would fail.

  • Satellite T series Wireless Internet is not working...

My router is working fine, i tap fn+F8 and it says wireless is on, the little light second from right under mousepad is on (orange) yet i have no internet connection.
And it's not like i've never had it before. it seemed to randomly go off.
I thought maybe there was a switch or soemthing dumb i've done but for some reason when i go into the little icon on the right of the toolbar (which has changed) it asks me for my ethernet cable, not even looking for any connections at all.
I tried reinstalling my router but that didn't work. I tried manually making a new connection, and also somehow tried to force it to look for my internet network.
i'm just getting desperate now and trying all sorts of things but nothing's working. i feel like it is either a major problem or a fundamental flaw in my IT skills....
please could someone suggest what is wrong, it is really i'mportant that i get wireless internet because i can't work next to the router which happens to be in my front room, next to my xbox..... which is more of a distraction than my family using the room 24/7.
    thanks

The problem is that all other computers in household are working perfectly, just this one isn't. Also i have had wireless internet before and suddenly it has stopped working and it cannot find any sort of wireless connection. Not even looking for it. my iPod is doing a better job :P
i'm wondering if the LED for wireless networks being orange is significant? I've tried to reinstall my netgear router so many times and it just freezes when it gets to 100%.
This notebook had to be sent back to Toshiba to recover it from a bue screen. But when the notebook was returned to me, wireless connection worked fine so maybe that's not relevant.
do you think i should uninstall the ethernet cable or do you think i should try to add this computer to the home network? even though it should already have done that.
    thanks :)

  • Satellite C660/C660D - Desktop background image not loading

Satellite C660/C660D: Trying to load any image from whatever source fails, with the error message 'an internal error has occurred'. I have tried all the procedures in control panel; none allow a change of background image, although colours can still be altered, as well as themes.
Microsoft advises this is a manufacturer issue, as my OS is OEM.
Can anyone help identify this error and suggest how to fix it?

    >Microsoft advises this is a manufacturer issue, as my OS is OEM.
This is a typical MS answer if the Windows system has not been purchased separately LOL and this is NOT a notebook problem.
Would recommend checking this MS knowledge base article:

  • Bluetooth headset disconnecting when not in use

I noticed that when not in use, the Sony Bluetooth headset disconnects from the phone. Didn't see that problem with the Samsung Galaxy Music. Is this a battery saving feature of Stamina mode?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
Depending on which headset you are using the headset may disconnect to a kind of standby mode. The headset will auto connect to your phone when you are placing or receiving a call. Depending on which software you can also force a connection by tapping the call button.

  • Satellite A500 - Battery light flashes when connected to mains power

    Win 7 Satellite A500 PSAM3A-03P00E.
The battery light flashes when connected to mains power (intermittent fault), when I unplug mains and re-connect flashing stops and battery (high capacity) continues to charge.
Also when battery light flashes the key board back lighting stays on when it should blank out and if the back lighting is off and the battery light starts flashing the key board back lighting doesn't turn on, all other functions seem to work fine.
The battery charges and holds charge as it should (when light flashes battery doesn't charge).

    Hi
Did you notice this issue from first day of purchase?
Theoretically it could be possible that your battery starts to malfunction
At the other hand an electronic issue might be possible too
    However, try this:
Remove ac adaptor and battery. Then press and hold power buttons 30 sec long.
Then insert the battery and connect AC adaptor again does it helps?
By the way: is BIOS up to date? If not, perform an update.

  • Satellite Pro 4600 Wireless card does not work with WIN2K ?

I have a Satellite Pro 4600 with UK dealer installed PA3070U-1MPC wireless card running with Windows 2000
The wireless client manager finds the network of my wireless router and reports the signal is excellent and I see all green bars swhowing.
However I can't mske a connection, in 'connections' the wireless one says 'network cable is disconnected'
the router works ok with other laptops in my house.
I have latest version of Win2K also have downloaded and installed latest versions of client manager and WLAN card driver for win2k from toshiba website.
The 'toshiba support in Turkey' told me 'I need a different driver for Win2K for my wireless card cause the win2K driver on the toshiba website is not for 'this' wireless card'. I have waited for this for 3 weeks now and have been unable to reach the elusive UK Level 3 support who supposedly have this driver. I have seen on the internet the same wireless card is has been sold as a 'made by toshiba' accessory and it says it is compatible with Wim2K
What do I do next please ? Does this run at all with Win2K , is there 'another driver' and so on ?
    Thanks

    hello
please be more scpecific - what do you mean by 'disconnect the LAN' - I have nothing conneced there anyway ? do you mean 'disable' the LAN even though there is nothing plugged in ? can you please post the exact sequence of this so I can try ir too.
In the meantime my laptop has been to Toshiba for them to sort out at their highest level UK support base. I was hoping my troubles would be over - but no, read below what happened. They are basically saying my win2k is not in order but I had just installed and updated it so right now I haven't a clue what to do next.
START QUOTE of Toshiba Support response:
    Sat Pro 4600
    Serial No: 31474181G
Windows 2000 SP4 (customers build not recovery CD)
BIOS V1.80 not current therefore updated to V2.60
The notebooks wireless card is functional and has the correct driver installed, it also has the correct and latest version of the Wireless Client Manager. The wireless function appears to see the router but will not connect and obtain an IP address. Irrespective of the settings applied within Internet Explorer or the Wireless client manager you cannot obtain a connection. The customer did not have any Toshiba utilities installed such as, Power Saver, Common Modules, Chipset drivers, network device switch, I therefore installed these missing components and updated the BIOS to the most current revision. However despite this the unit will still not connect to the wireless.
I therefore removed the customers HDD and replaced his HDD with a Toshiba loan HDD with a fresh build that I had created. When using the machine with this build the wireless connected without issue and I was able to browse the internet etc. I placed the customers HDD into our machine and the problem with the wireless was replicated on our machine here, therefore the problem is not with the wireless card or any hardware aspect of the machine, the problem lies with the customer's build of Win 2000. I examined for anything obvious but could not find anything, therefore I'm sending this machine back to customer with the advice that his build needs addressing or he needs to reload Win 2000 his machine.
As you can see from the above comments, the machine performs as per specification with loan HDD and fresh build of Win 2000 installed, the problem is only present with you HDD and build in the machine. In addition to this I have replaced the missing screws on the base of the machine ensuring the machine is structure is maintained.

    Hi,

  • Lose wireless connection when not in same room as wireless modem.

When I try to use my z60t laptop in another room in the house I cannot connect to the internet.  The signal strength is either very good or low.  When I am in the office where the wireless modem is located, my signal strength is excellent and there is no problem.  My husband does not have this same problem with his HP laptop.  I also get a good signal with my iphone all over the house.  After calling Verizon it was determined that it is a computer problem.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Lisa

100% certain that I am connecting to my modem. And yes the password is a good one too. As I said, I have no troubles connecting when outside a 5metre or 15feet (for those of us who aren't metric) radius of the modem. When closer then that, the connection will usually drop out.

  • Satellite C660-108 WLAN disconnects on battery power

Have tried to post on an older theread but they are locked as resolved. Well mine isn't. Usual problem of WLAN being fine on mains adaptor but WLAN disconnects from internet intermittenetly on battery power. I have...
    - Adjusted the power save settings
    - Deleted the WLAN (Realtek 8188CE) driver
    - Installed a new driver from the Realtek site
    - Enabled the 802.11d which was disabled.
What have I missed? There's clearly a need for Toshiba to fix this problem with a proper patch.

  • Satellite C660 - new internal keyboard does not work

    Hi there
I'm completely stuck I have a c660 satellite laptop the keyboard wasn't working.
So I bought a replacement keyboard and installed it and checked in the device manager and it says it's there and is working correctly but the replacement keyboard is still not working.
I have updated bios and uninstalled keyboard drivers and reinstalled them I have done everything I can think off to get try and get this new keyboard working but I am having no luck and could so with some help.

Did you ever check if the external USN keyboard works properly?
Im asking because in case the external keyboard would not work properly, the internal keyboard problem could be related to faulty keyboard controller (motherboard) or system problem.
In case the external keyboard would work properly, you simply had bad luck with the new keyboard. It could be possible that the new keyboard malfunctions.

  • How do I stop wireless disconnecting when my macbook pro goes to sleep?

When my mac goes to standby I have to re enter password for the wireless. The problem with this is that it is a difficult password to get right so I end up having to restart my computer everytime. Any ideas?

Why don't you just save the password?
there's a option to remember the network and the password and connect automatically to it. I think everyone use it that way.
