Satellite C660-1FS - Windows 7 startup error

Hello to everybody. I have this laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium (no installation disk given by purchase). Since this morning I experience the following message/problem
Windows Error Recovery
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. If windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, startup repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. If power was interrupted during startup, chose start windows normally
Launch Startup repair (recommended)
Start Windows Normally
Both options do not work. Furthermore, Windows cannot enter in Safe Mode. I live in Belgium and I don't know what to do. Shall I try with a friend's windows 7 installation disk (from Dell notebook) or I should contact Toshiba directly?
Thanks in advance

Check if you can recover the notebook using HDD recovery procedure as described here:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R02.htm
If this will not work, you will have to install the OS using recover disk.
I assume you have not created the recover disk in the past. Right?
In such case you need to order the recover disk from here:

    Running Windows 7 64-bit
Hello everyone, I need a bit of help.
My computer will boot windows 7. When I start it up, it tries to boot up.  I then get a Windows failed to boot message on the windows error recovery screen and asks me if I would like to use Windows Startup Repair Tool to fix the Problem. But the tool never starts up. It just leads to a windows background and does nothing. I have also tried using f11 System recovery but it does nothing.

    Hi,
    Firstly, regarding your existing files.
One possible way to try and retrieve your files from a non-booting drive is to follow the process detailed in the link below.  The Ubuntu operating system CD you create can run from the CD alone ( ie it doesn't have to install on the Hard Drive ) and I've often found it to be successful in retrieving data even from a failing Hard Drive.  When you've created the CD, follow the instructions and see if you can back up your existing files.
    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/use-ubuntu-live-cd-to-backup-files-from-your-dead-windo...
Secondly, regarding the replacement of the Hard Drive.
The drive on the link below is an example of one that would be fine for your notebook.
    500Gb Hard Drive
The procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on Page 52 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
Once done, simply use your Recovery DVDs to reinstall the Operating System on the new drive - the procedure is described in the HP document Here.
If you don't have your Recovery Discs, you can order a replacement set using the link below.
    Order HP Recovery Discs.
If you have any problem with this link, order them directly from HP.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.

  • New Satellite C660-1F1 windows 64-bit -cant use graphics editing software

Hi Guys....any help appreciated...this is the message I sent to Toshiba support but they are taking their time getting back to me:
    Important information: Satellite C660-1F1
    Key Features
    - Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (pre-installed, Toshiba-HDD recovery)
    - Intel Core i3-380M Processor
    - DVD-SuperMulti +-R (Double Layer)
    - 2048 MB DDR3 RAM (1066MHz)
    - 39.6cm (15.6") TruBrite HD (1366 x 768) High Brightness display with LED backlight with 16:9 aspect ratio
Hi... I purchased my laptop about a month ago from Argos and it has a 2 year warranty. I have one big problem - the 2 main graphics editing programmes that I use do not work. Both Corel Paintshop Photo Pro x3 and Adobe CS5 can both be installed and opened but as soon as I try to save a photo or edit a photo both of the programmes crash and i have to close it down by using end task in task manager.
This happened when I installed the full versions of both programmes which I purchased and it also happens when you download the trial versions from both the Corel and the Adobe download sites. I have been on so many help forums for both adobe and corel and the most helpful pointer came from one of the designers at Adobe - a Chris Cox.
He very logically stated that as it happened in both of these 2 graphics editing packages that it was most likely a problem with the graphics card drivers or the actual graphics card hardware. I purchased a 64-bit operating system to handle precisely these 2 programmes which can be exhausting on the system. I know i only have 2 GB RAM at the moment but it has been happening with other people...some who even have 8GB and 16GB of RAM which is what I will have in the next few weeks. However, not if I cannot rectify this problem. Please can you help/advise the best solution. This seems to be a problem only with the 64-bit systems. Both Adobe and Corel are 64-bit compatible.
There is also a message that appears when I open Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended....which is as follows:
...."Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver, and has temporarily disabled GPU enhancements, Check the video card manufacturers website for the latest software."
I then click that message away ....use the programme, edit something, try to save and it crashes. I have gone through all troubleshooting directions and ran countless diagnostics but there only seems to be one common denominator between the 2 different programmes and that is my Toshiba laptop.... I even tried installing another large photo editing software package to test it and I had the same result - an application crash.
Please help! Thanking you in advance.
    Kind regards
    John

    Hello John
Have you already got some answer from Toshiba?
What to say my friend? In my opinion the best advice you can get from Corel and Adobe. They have best experience with own product and have probably tested them on different hardware platforms.
Notebook manufacturers offer different notebook models with different hardware configurations. Some of them are cheap and offered with average hardware. The performance is not the best but good enough for every day activities like internet, office, mailing and so on.
On other hand there are notebooks with excellent and powerful hardware. Very often such notebooks cost twice as much as cheap low budget products.
Please dont understand me wrong but your C notebook is not the best one for usage with such powerful software.
I really dont know what Toshiba can do about it. I can imagine that you need other graphic driver but graphic driver support for mobile computers is pretty limited and I dont think you can do much about that.
What you can try is to download and install driver from graphic card manufacturer but you must do this on your own risk.
Sorry friend but I dont have any other advice for you. I just think youve bought wrong notebook for such complex graphic operations. 2 GB RAM? I dont know.
    Good luck.

  • Wifi drivers not found - Toshiba satellite c660 PSC1LE - windows 7 64Bit

    Hi,
I'm looking for the wifi drivers for my Toshiba satellite c660 PSC1LE laptop.
    Already tried this search: http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EU
    and 0 resaults...
my newly installed windows 7 home premium 64Bit doesn't identify any wifi device, and after installing a driver from a different source my computer gets stuck while trying to connect to a network.
Do you have any idea what can I do? How to get my internet running?
    I really need some help...
    Thanks!

    thank god!
after a weak struggling with it, I finally managed to get it to work...

If you are having the same problem, find your laptop's specifications, find your wifi adapter, search for the drivers for it.
    sorry guys, and thanks!
I saw there were some questions regarding the same problem but no answers.
I hope this will help people.

  • Re: Does Satellite C660 support Windows 7 64bit?

My Toshiba Satellite Notebook C660/01C PSC0LA-01C01H came with Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit installed. I later upgraded to Windows 7 Professional 32-bit.
This supports a maximum of 4 Gb RAM.
The Celeron Dual-Core T3500 CPU supports 64-bit processing according to the Celeron and C660 specs.
Will the other hardware and firmware -- data bus and BIOS, etc. -- support 64-bit memory addressing if I install Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. CAN I even install Win7 64-bit?
    Regards,
    Hedley

If you want to get hardware details about your notebook, why you dont install an hardware diagnostic tool like Everest Home Edit or SANDRA Sisoft.
By the way; as far as I know there are different C660 Satellite series on the market and there are also Win 7 64bit drivers available on the driver page.
So tell me why an notebook manufacturer should release Win 7 64bit drivers if such system would not be compatible?
For me it does not make any sense

  • Re: New Satellite C660-2EL - Windows 7 will not install

Brand new, out of the box machine. It says "Starting Windows". It prompts me for the language. I select English. Click 'Next'. Please choose language of operating system to install. I choose 'English (Windows Win 7)'. Click 'Next'. Then I get
    HDD 1 - DISK 0
    HDD 2 - DISK 1
A subdirectory or file V:\HDDRecovery\SWImg already exists.
A duplicate file name exists, or the file
    cannot be found
ERROR: Could ot move "V\_IMG\15238XSP*.swm" to "V:\HDDRecovery\SWImg"!
    press and key to continue.
When I press a key to continue it just gives me awhite screen with Toshiba written in bottom right hand corner.
I have tried to start windows and press F8 so I can go back to factory settings, but it doesn't offer me a restore option. Please can anyone help ?

Im afraid something is screwed up. I recommend you to bring it back to your local dealer and ask for replacement.
As far as I know such errors and issues cannot be fixed by users.

  • Satellite C660 with Windows 8.1 is very slow

I upgraded windows 7 to 8.1 and it was very slow, the disk is always in 100 usage.
When I had the Windows 7 I never had the computer slow.

An entry is listed on your screenshot Tareas en segundo plano de proteccion
Its Windows Background Tasks protection srtasks.exe
This process starts automatically and should not cause any performance issues.
However, in case you have still problems with this exe file, I would recommend you to check the system for possible virus and malware.
Sometimes the viruses look very similar to the standard windows processes an could affect the system performance as well as the functionality.

  • Re: Satellite C660-115 Very strange Wifi problems!

I've been busy solving a wireless problem on a C660-115, still without success.
    Satellite C660-115
    Windows 7 - 64Bits
    The case:
    - Laptop is connected to the power supply: Wifi works fine, no problems
    - Laptop disconnected from power supply: Wifi won't work, although there sometimes seems to be a connection with the access point/wifi router.
    No internet/network communication
    - Laptop connected to the power supply --> wifi works, unplugging the power supply --> after a 1/2 minute or so, no internet connection...
I tried to find a new driver, but we already use the latest version.
Then i switched off the "This computer may switch of this device to save energy" function, without succes.
    Ideas anyone?

I had same problem with C660 running windows 7 losing internet access but not network connection whilst using battery power, but no problems when connected to mains power.
Solution; Change power plan to high performance. I found this sovlved the problem instantly.

  • Satellite C660 does not start up

Yesterday we purchased a Satellite C660 with Windows 7 64bit installed. Worked just fine but today the laptop does not start up again. Updates were installed but after pressing the power button the light of the hdd turns on for a few seconds, the vents work for two seconds and then ... nothing !
    Please help !

You cannot start notebook at all?
Can you enter BIOS settings with F2 at start up?
    Which updates have you installed?
If nothing works you have only one choice: either bring it back to your local dealer and ask for replacement or contact Toshiba service provider directly. They can check hardware and help you with this.

  • CF Startup Errors: swsoc.exe and swagent.exe

I've installed CF Standard on a new box and am receiving
Windows startup errors for swagent.exe and swsoc.exe. Two of the CF
services (ODBC Server and ODBC Agent) also will not run - I believe
    the two events are related.
Does anybody have any suggestions or experience with
    this?

Thanks. I reinstalled - no change. I applied the latest MX
updates - no change. I reset my personal firewall (McAfee) to the
default values and this time allowed all the verity programs (3 or
    4) access to the Internet - low and behold, fixed.
My guess is that there is some sort of "call home to mama"
code that fails miserably if it can't.

  • Satellite C660 - USB sticks are not mounted

I have a *Satellite C660 with Windows 7 64 bit*. When I conect a USB stick (2GB LG or another), Windows mount the USB new drive, but after some seconds, the USB stick is unmount and mount and unmount indefinitely.
With my old *Toshiba Sattelite M50, Windows XP* both sticks work fine.

    Hi mkobets,
Probably something is wrong with USB ports or chipset driver if the USB sticks work with your old Toshiba notebook
Easiest way would be updating the chipset driver in my opinion that you can download here:

  • Satellite C660-26G - unexpected error after removing USB stick

Hello all, i am in need of help here.
I have a Satellite C660-26G, 2 days old and a USB memory stick has been removed from the laptop while it was working, and I believe caused some sort of corruption.
The machine starts, passes the logo, and the windows loading bar in white comes along bottom of the screen. It freezes about 1/3rd of the way along, and then throws up an error screen stating the following:
"Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the drive is in use .... and so on ...."
It states to plug it back in and restart the machine.
I have tried this and always the same, i have even plugged it into both ports available, and to no avail, the same problem exists.
Now searching the forum I thought nothing more of restoring to the factory settings as there were no physical discs supplied with the new machine.
Using the reboot and F8 method results in no action and same error in the end.
    Bottom of the error screen states;
    Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred.
    Please help ???

    Hi
Whether this issue has any relation to the incident with you USB stick or not (I don't think so since modern OS'es simply aren't so unstable) it still seems your unit is in need of professional attention.
This is not something that is possible to fix without further hardware diagnosis.
I would suggest to call your local support or talk to your dealer about how to get your unit to service.
    BR

  • Windows 7 will not boot on new Satellite C660-195

    Hi,
    I have just purchased a Toshiba Satellite C660-195 with Windows 7 pre-installed.
This morning I have switched it on and it came up with a black box with x:windows\system32\drvload.exe in it. This box then disappeared and Startup Repair kicked in. It then told me Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically. The advice was to remove any device which had been recently attached to the laptop (such as a webcam or music device) but I have not installed any hardware or devices. I clicked finish and it shut down the laptop.
I switched it on again and the same thing happened (again and again!)
One forum suggests trying the following: Click the 'view advanced options for system recovery and support' link which asks me to choose my keyboard configuration but then when I do & click next it tells me "You must log in to access system recovery options" I am never given the option to log in!!
When accessing the Advanced Startup options using F8 I am still unable to solve this problem. The same thing (above) happens when I try to start in all Safe modes, Last Known Good Configuration (advanced), Debugging mode, Start Windows normally etc. I just don't understand it.
Upon searching other forums they have suggested holding down zero whilst switching on and then chosing Windows 7 to restore the laptop to its factory settings but the same thing happens - it just shows the black screen with x:windows\system32\drvload.exe then launched Startup Repair, which does not fix the problem.
I do not have a windows 7 disk to restore from as I only purchased the laptop 6 days ago and have not had time to do one yet. Also, the laptop should have the restore/recovery on its hard drive but I cannot access it to restore windows.
I am only a home user so do not understand all the technical speak. Please can someone help me?

    Hi,
    Thanks for your prompt reply.
Unfortunately I have already tried this and it does not work.
in F8 I can chose 'Repair your Computer' as in screen shot 1.
I can chose my keyboard configuration as in screen shot 2 and when I click 'Next'
I am presented with the message "You must log in to access System Recovery Options. If you are having trouble logging in please contact your computer administrator . . . . . . ." etc
It does not give me the option to log in like screen shot 3 so I cannot progress.
    Any further ideas gratefully received!

  • Cannot install Windows on my Satellite C660-162

I have a Satellite C660-162 and suddenly it was soo slow so I tried to install a new Windows but I could not install it and gives me this error Windows cannot be installed to disk 0 partition 1 or 2 and when I press it " Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computers hardware may not support booting to the disk. Ensure that the disks controller is enabled in the computers bios menu".
Then Ive changed the boot priority or something like it to fast and it was normal after that my Toshiba logo does not appear and I cannot enter the bios setup.
    Thanx

    Hi
You said that your notebook was slow
I think this was related to the HDD malfunction
The Toshiba logo does not appear anymore because you changed the option to Fast boot. Usually you should be able to get it back by settings the BIOS to default.
Power up the unit and press F2 press F2 several times in the row you can also try to press and hold F2 and then press power button this should allow you to access the BIOS again
However, if you want to change the boot device you can also press F12 and then the boot menu should appear on the screen now you will be able to choose your favorite boot device.

  • Satellite C660 11K - Keeps freezing and unable to access Windows

Recently bought Satellite C660 11K and loaded a game on to it, within a couple of hours it froze (ctrl alt delete wouldn't work) I shut it down and started it back up and got a message saying some software or hardware was stopping Windows from working.
I restored it to factory settings with the recovery disk. However I have not loaded any games or other software since, but it keeps freezing and I've had to use the recovery disk 3 times!
I don't know what else to try!

Once I've used the recovery disk it's fine for a couple of days. I've been using the internet when it freezes and won't respond to anything. When I turn it back on the error message I get is ' Windows failed to start, a recent hardware or software change might be the cause' it then gives the option of using recovery mode. I triedthe recovery mode before and left the laptop for over 12 hours and nothing happened. After that I've used the recovery disk, but the problem keeps happening
