Satellite C660-1NX freezes while shutdown after clean Win 7 installation

Good morning!
The first apologize for my English, I am Spanish and use a translator.
I have a Satellite C660-1NX (PSC1LE-00F00NCE), I had to reformat the computer, put on a clean Windows 7 64x (not recovery) with all original drivers giving official Toshiba page,
Everything looks perfect but when turn off the computer is completely frozen, I thought it was 64x and 86x and install the same, the first day all right, then started the same problem, eh updated BIOS, as usual, before formatting this did not happen, it is very weird,
I find the reason for the problem never happened to any computer this.
Best regards

You mean the problem started after the recovery partition has been deleted.
Right?
If you dont have a Toshiba recovery disk, you will not be able to recover the notebook to the factory settings. Of course you could order such disk here: http://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx but to be honest, the clean Windows 7 installation should run properly too.
Maybe you should format the HDD and delete all partitions using the 3rd party tool called GParted: http://gparted.org/liveusb.php
Create live USB stick and boot up the unit using this Gparted stick. Format the HDD, and assign new files system; for example NTFS
After that, install new Win 7 and test the functionality.

  • Fresh Win7, freeze while rebooting after video driver installation

Yesterday when I opened my laptop it froze while booting when the Win7 logo appears. Rebooted in safemode, all was good, didn't know what to look for exactly.
Today, I decided it was time for a new Win7 reinstall so I did it. Also, did a complete format of my SSD where I keep only my OS.
While it was rebooting after installing the AMD video driver it froze again, in the same spot. Restarted the laptop, chose last known good config and noticed in device manager that one of the video cards had error 43 (Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43))
I tried to install the driver for Intel then, but I got an error saying my laptop does not have the minimum requierments (even for older versions of the driver)
I tried every possible combination of installing, uninstalling, enabling, disabling one of the cards.
When I install the AMD driver, the Intel driver installs itself too.
When I leave AMD graphics  enabled, it freezez at Win7 logo while booting,
When I disable AMD and leave just Intel enabled, then it boots normally, but right after the reboot, device manager shows them both with yellow triangle and "!" with error "This device cannot work properly until you restart your computer. (Code 14)", and of course, if I reboot then it freezes again.
I have already spent 10h on this and couldn't find a way to fix it.

    Hi
Using Advanced boot options  ( F8 at start up )  go into Safe Mode with Command prompt , Once Safe mode loads with command prompt type      rstrui.exe           hit Enter   ....        This will take you into  System Restore ...  Follow the onscreen instructions to Restore your system to the time  before the AMD driver was installed .    You can choose from multiple restore points  if they have been created by you or your system .
                                                      Post me your Findings

  • Toshiba Satellite C655 SP4168M freezes while playing a game

So i've been having problems with mi laptop very recently with a game i'm playing (League of legends), the game normally works perfectly, but at random times it just completely freezes (making an awkward sttutering sound) and i have to forcefully shutdown and restart the PC. It doesnt happen ALL the time, but when it happens it's really annoying, and i can either happen once every week, or several times daily. I already repaired the video driver but that didnt help, i was thinking about updating the BIOS; but cant find the correct version for my laptop, and i cant even be sure that's actually the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

try using a program like "Piriform Speccy" (free version), and monitor the CPU temps as you are using the system.  If it gets up into the orange and red while watching videos, you may need to apply fresh thermal paste to the CPU.
My old L355 is starting to freeze while watching youtube videos the other day, and just confirmed that the CPU is overheating.  Will be tearing it apart hopefully tonight to be cleaned up and have a fresh application of arctic silver on the CPU.

  • Cannot load Windows 7 - Satellite C660 keeps freezing

    Hi Everyone.
This is a biggy. I have a Toshiba AMD Vision Satellite C660 / C660D laptop with no Windows installation disc. Last week it became very sluggish, then the interface resembled that of the safe mode interface and it finally became completely unresponsive, therefore, via F8 on start- up I selected the option which allowed for it to revert to factory settings (I no longer have this option)
The DOS screen appeared and started loading as normal then that become unresponsive so I restarted only to see Windows start up for the first time and carry on loading, prior to this I had to create a boot cd from my other laptop to reboot the system as I had lost the boot mngr.
The last part of the installation process began whereby a white Toshiba screen is displayed with a green progress bar that loads certain drivers (see attachment). There are 39 steps to this process and I seem to remember from before that the computer should keep restarting itself, but it keeps freezing after about two steps. I kept switching it off and eventually the system administrator locked my accounts.
Once again I restarted the PC but this time in safe mode The operating system did indeed load in safe mode and I created some new accounts with administrator privileges, however, I am still unable to load the whole operating system as it keeps freezing during the last part of the process.
I have very limited knowledge of loading operating systems so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
First of all it was a big mistake NOT to create an Toshiba recovery disk.
The HDD recovery which you were able to start by pressing F8, is only possible if the HDD is not faulty.
I think in your case I think there is something wrong with the HDD because there was an boot mgr notification which means that notebook cannot find an boot manager in order to boot up the system.
I have no other idea as to try to reinstall the system using the Toshiba recover disk or another Windows 7 disk (of course if you own one)
If the recovery would fail, you have to investigate what hardware part might be affected. I think in such case its needed to start with HDD check.
Possibly the HDD needs to be replaced. Of course it possible that Im wrong an other part is affected but at first stage you need to check new OS installation.
A recovery disk can be ordered here:

  • Satellite C660-184 freezes at random times whilst playing a game.

Laptop Freezes at random times whilst playing Football Manager 2011. The game isn't graphic intensive and had worked for about a month with no problems, only recently has it begun to freeze and the only thing i can do is switch off my laptop by the power button.
    I have a

My graphics card driver is up to date, says my latest one is 28/07/2010.
I'm at a loss to explain what is happening.
Help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi buddy,
    > The game isn't graphic intensive and had worked for about a month with no problems, only recently has it begun to freeze
This could mean that the notebook is overheating now
The reason of overheating is dust that is blocking the fan so the notebook gets hotter
I would recommend cleaning it using compressed air spray to blow out the dust from cooling ventilators. You can do this without disassembling the computer so its very easy and takes 5 minutes only.
Just remove the battery and disconnect AC/DC adapter before you do this.
For example I clean my notebook every 4 months because a lot of dust is coming out so its worthwhile.

  • Error message when running HD-DVD player after clean win 7 install on P205-S6347

On a P205-S6347, did clean win 7 ultimate install with toshiba instructions and loadup software downloaded from toshiba support.  On first dvd player install of latesed full player, got a video eror.  Installed latets patch, now I get "An error has occured in the audio output settings. Please check thet the sound driver is set up properly" The sound playes fine for all other programs/utilities.  Note, I am running USB powered Logitec external speakers.  I have tried to follow all the recomendations of others with this problem, yet nothng works, unless I'm not using the right software, yet I only use whats on the site for the model and OS.  The reason that I want to use this OEM player is that I havent found a comparable player that does just that, playes DVD's like a home unit, complete with menu access as a physical player would and that the moving cursers only seem to work with the Toshiba player, whereas others like VLC and Kantaris will only show one moving curser on a menue and I have to guess where the next one is to slick it to start, and Real Player isnt any better either.  Other problems I've had with other players are that the graphics seem a bit hazy sometimes, I never have that problem with the Toshiba player.  Also, others have way to many bells and whistles, I only want a player that works doing that specific job.  I wish Toshiba would package a universal player that could be installed with all that it needs to run itself.  Any Ideas folks?

Try to use the command ipconfig /renew in the cms (command dos box)
    Also try this:
Control Panel > Administration Tools > Computer Management > Services & Applications > Services.
Scroll down this list to find 'WLAN Auto Config'
Double click on 'WLAN Auto Config' On the general tab, select from the start up type drop down menu, select 'Automatic'. Under Service Status click on 'Start'. Then 'Apply' these settings and exit from all open control panel windows.
Otherwise uninstall the Realtek driver in the device manager.
    Then reboot the notebook.
Download the Realtek WLan driver again and install it.

  • No wireless on Satellite C660d-14W after clean Win 7 intsallation

    Hello,
I bought a toshiba satellite c660d-14w off a friend, and reinstalled a clean copy of windows 7 x64.
After installing, the laptop didn't recognize any hardware (graphics, sound, wireless network card) so I've been slowly trying to install all the drivers for them all.
However, no matter what I install for the wireless, it just doesn't seem to work.
Have installed the realtek RTL8188CE driver, the wireless lan driver from the Toshiba website, and have set the network connections service to auto and restarted it and still nothing.
In device manager, under network adapters, I have two entries:
    Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller
    Realtek RTL8188CE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC
Both say they are working correctly and have the latest drivers but I have no access to wireless, the icon doesn't show in the tray, and i just get a generic error message from windows when trying to manually set it up.
    Please help!

  • Freeze while updating after retoring, resetting, charging etc etc

itunes didn't recognize ipod and !folder showed on ipod screen. After charging, resetting, & restoring, I got a disk insertion message. I erased disk and could then import songs to ipod and play songs, but as ipod was mid update of itunes library it froze. Continues to freeze on random songs even updating manually. Did I miss a step? Or does my ipod need work?

    You know,
I'm on my second ipod now. I purchased my last one in late December of 2004. By March, Apple had to replace that one. Now, the replacement that they had sent me is freezing to the point of not functioning. 1 year is PATHETIC for a $300 dollar product. However, I NEED an mp3 player. I couldn't live without one. Am I going to buy another ipod...I don't know. I can understand the battery needing to be replaced, but total failure within such a short period of time is atrocious! When I contacted Apple, I was told that there is nothing that can be done, and that, next time, I should buy the AppleCare. So, for $60 more, I'll have my purchased replaced for 2 years. Because it sure won't last that long. That is not acceptible!

  • Satellite A300-D 21W keeps crashing after clean windows7 x64 istallation

I have just bought Toshiba laptop with Vista, and I have tried to make a clean installation of Windows 7 x64. However, when restarting a blue screen appears. I then run the restore feature and I', back at the beginning. It only seems to happen whenever I upgrade my system using Windows Update! It's very annoying.
    Can anyone help, please.
    Regards,
    Stephan

I think that I have fixed the problems now. My thoughts were also that it was probably something with the drivers (monitor, sound etc.) So I went to toshibas homepage for drivers anf found my exact model, and manually downloaded and installed every single driver. It took ages as I had to restart several times! But it is working like a charm now, so I'm happy. So I would advise averyone to manually install the drivers.

  • Suddenly Bluescreen and PC Shutdown (after windows 7 installation)

    dear reader
I've installed one week ago the new windows 7 home premium on my Pavillion notebook dv 9040 ea. I've updated and installed all necessary drivers for each and every component afetrwards - at least this is what I believe that I've done with my knowledge. Updating through the device manager, with the help of hp support driver updates or manufacturer and I've also followed the great guide given from Daniel in this forum. Including registry cleaning and performance check (a 4,4 total evaluation). Everything seems to be perfect. BUT nearly every day now I've been using my laptop, teh screen all of a sudden turns to bluescreen! it appears a lot of white text on it and then my PC shuts down and starts again. Then it is aksing me, if I'd like to start in saved or in normal mode - the normal mode works afterwards.
I've just taken a picture of the text on the bluescreen with my camera, because it turns itseld off so fast. So the main message here is that "[...] it is a driver problem and, in case it happens contiunuously, I shall disable and/ or remove recently installed hardware or software. Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You deleted OS X while you were installing Windows 7, but the most strange thing is that you only deleted the partition and you haven't installed Windows in it. When you have to install Windows, you only have to format the "BOOTCAMP" volume and then, install Windows in it.
To reinstall OS X, follow these steps:
    1. Press Command, Option and R keys while your Mac is starting, and open Disk Utility.
    2. Select the hard disk at the top of the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk. You will delete Windows doing this.
    3. Close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X.
    4. After installing OS X, install Windows using Boot Camp, following the steps of this document > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf

  • Satellite P300 - Microphone doesn't work after Windows 7 installation

    Hi,
I recently did a clean install of Windows 7 on my Satellite P300. The built in microphone was fine with Vista but does not now work with Windows 7.
I've tried going to the sound section and it does not list the built in mike - just the jacks. Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    James

    Hi
Maybe you didnt install the driver for the microphone?! Therefore you have to install the webcam driver because the microphone is a part of it. You can get it here:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
After this it should be possible to use the internal microphone.
By the way: Which application you use for the internal microphone? Skype or something else?

  • Freezing under load after Zalman 7000A installation - help!

I built a K8N system over the summer using the stock AMD HSF. Yesterday I decided to install a Zalman 7000A to quiten the system and to run a bit cooler.
The installation was relatively straightforward. As usual removing the back plate was a pain. The main concern was that the thermal pad used on the stock HSF was so strong that, despite twising to break the seal, still lifted the CPU out of its socket. All the pins looked fine and it went back in OK.
After re-installing the motherboard and connecting all the cables, system booted fine with no apparent problems. Temps looked a little better and perhaps a little quiter. Runs normal office apps ok.
Testing SETI@home to load the system, the temps rose up to mid 50s and the fan increased speed, and then the system froze (screen was frozen, no keyboard input). Booting into Fedora linux showed the same problem, idles OK, but running a numerical fluid simulation locks the system. The highest temp I have seen with Core Center is 61C (this is with BIOS 1.44)
A bit more testing showed a slightly strange behaviour from Core Center. The processor speed was fluctuating, with the FSB increasing so that at some brief instances it was reporting 2750Mhz.
I have  previously seen this but small momentary increases from 2010 to 2100 or so.
So how to narrow down the problem:
have I damaged the CPU or motherboard during the backplate/HSF removal?
have I forget to connect something somewhere?
is there a problem with the Zalman installation so that the CPU is overheating (too little thermal grease)?
should I go back to the stock HSF
    thanks

    update on progress...
re-installed the Zalman heat sink. I very carefully cleaned both surfaces with cotton buds and methylated spirits (ethanol+10%methanol + purple colouring), then a dry screen wipe. A small, grain of rice size, blob of zalman thermal grease in the middle of the heat spreader. As in arctic silver instructions, rotated hs a few degrees to make sure it spreads and screwed tight carefully.
Initially looking good, although temperatures were pretty much the same as the stock HSF: idle with cool'n'quiet at 1000Mhz 33-35C, under load at 2010Mhz creeping up to 52-53C. I used Corecenter to manual hold the fan at full speed (2600rpm). Ran set@home for 10 minutes, and I was just about to kill it, satisfied that I had fixed the problems, when the screen went blank and the machine started beeping! (I had never previously seen this, only lockups with the screen frozen).
Later I had one other screen freeze, but this time the temperature had not risen above 45C.
I have BIOS 1.44 which is much better for temps than the BIOS is was shipped with, but I still do not really trust these measurements.
I am pretty sure the Zalman heat sink is installed properly - my only slight concern was the use of methylated spirits to clean it.
Looks like I will go back to the stock HSF over the weekend.
    thanks for the help

  • Textmode/BIOS boot-up slowed down 15~20x after clean Win 7 Installation

    Hi there,
My company received a S10-2 (WinXP Home OEM) as a gift after purchasing an IBM x3650 server.
As my company is moving towards Win 7, the following was performed in sequence:
    1) Deletion of all partition (including the quick boot, recovery and WinXP partition)
    2) Clean installation of Win 7 Pro
    3) Office Pro 2k3, NetOp Guest
    4) Win 7 Patches from my company's WSUS server
    5) Replaced 1GB Ram to 2GB (DDR2 3500 667Mhz, 1.8v)
    6) latest S10-2 bios (rev 22)
    7) Win 7 driver: NIC and Intel GMA950
Textmode boot-up slowed down considerably after step 3) - even the underscore ("_") blinks 10-20 times slower. Generally it takes 15 minutes to boot into GUI of Win 7.
Despite the slow boot-up, speed/performance of S10-2 is acceptable once booted into GUI of Win 7. Windows Experience Index of HDD, RAM and CPU averages at 3~4 with Graphics lowest at 2.2.
I have tried the following but with no avail:
    1) Put back the 1GB RAM
    2) Reseated the following: HDD, RAM and WiFi
    3) Update BIOS to rev 22 (Step 6)
    4) Update Windows Drivers (Step 7)
I also came across the following blog entry that suggests to disable "Quick Boot" which I will try tomorrow (English description at the end):
    http://crashsource.de/114-acer-insydeh2o-bios-kaltstart-friert-bootvorgang-ein/
Kindly please advise what can be done before I send it back to Lenovo.
Any help and suggestion is greatly appreciated ;-)
    Solved!

    Dear all,
The issue seems to be resolved after installing the latest storage matrix driver from Intel. The boot time drop from 15minutes to approx 40 seconds.
It appears that the EFI BIOSes is very sensitive even to the drivers used by Windows?

  • Black screen after clean Win 8.1 install

I did a clean install from 10.9 Bootcamp utility and Win 8.1 Home full ISO.
Installation is successful but after first reboot I got display drivers issue (black screen and system running on).
I tried both ways and got the same issue:
    -     with Bootcamp drivers
    -     without Bootcamp drivers install
Thanks to help me to do not let me switch....
    Matt

    Hi
Only an Toshiba Blu-ray Player update from Win 8 to Win 8.1 can be downloaded.
The full version is not available for download.
This means that if you want to use the Toshiba Blu-ray Player, you have to go back to notebooks factory settings (including the Win 8 system). Then you should perform an update to Win 8.1. After that you could download the Toshiba Blu-ray Player- update (Win 8.1) package from Toshiba EU driver page.
If you dont want to perform this procedure, you could try an freeware software like VLC player.

  • Can I resize my existing Bootcamp partition (leaving XP Pro behind) while doing a clean Win 7 install?

I currently have a Bootcamp partition (30 Gb or so) running XP pro.  I want to switch to Win 7, which I understand requires a clean install since there is no upgrade path from XP directly to Win7.  While doing so I want to increase the size of my BC partition.  (I'm offloading iTunes and iPhoto to external drives and freeing up 60+ Gb so I can make a bigger partition)
Do I just run Bootcamp Assistant and do the deed as if I were starting from scratch, but specify a larger partition?
The full scenario is that I have an HP laptop running Win7, and XP pro in Bootcamp.  I want to swap them.  Any advice on the process?  Activate/Deactivate/Reactivate dance.  I realize this is a Windows question, but someone may have done this before.
    Thanks for any help.

contrary to kappy, you can buy and use CampTune to resize.
you can't use a HP install on Mac.
you need a retail Win7 to activate on a different motherboard.
Start from scratch. Anything else is likely to have problems.
