Satellite C660-1PH - HDD shows different free space

Hello,
Ive noticed the last days that the 'windows partition C:' of my disk shows different free space without downloading/installing anything
E.g. I had 104GB free, then on next day it was showing 100GB free and then suddenly it became 104GB again. It happened with different values another day, it just keep changing out of the blue.
What could be causing this? Could the hard disk be faulty?
Thank you

Hi
Please dont forget that temporal stored files can change value of the free space on the HDD.
Use the CCLeaner (freeware) software which would delete and remove the temporal stored files.

  • My harddisk info shows more free space as it has capazity

    hi everyone,
my harddisk info shows more free space as it has capazity!
Even after using the harddisk-tool to repair rights and catalog
the info below the harddrive shows more GB than it's own size.
This also appears in the info-window (command - i )
749,GB size of HD / 765,16 GB free
But the information about the harddrive shown in the harddrive-repair-tool
seems to be right, and shows approx. 600GB free of the 750GB harddrive ...
I'am a bit worried and are looking for a solution to repair this ...
    best, boschma

    thx for answering ;-)
yes, I did, under FIRST AID as well ... no positive result
thx for the tipp about 'Disk Warrior'
I will try that - update to follow ...
    edit:
oops - that's a lot of money to pay for 'Disk Warrior'.
maybe there are any other utilities? tipps? tricks?

  • IPhone syncing, versus iPod syncing - different Free Space results

I am stumped. I have an iPhone 4.02, 32GB and an iPod Touch, 2nd Gen, 4.02 also 32 GB. After changing iTunes to "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC", and syncing the SAME set of songs (both have 4334 songs), here are the results:
iPod = 4334 songs, 11.8 days, 16.7 GB of disk space
iPhone = 4375 songs (ringtones), 11.8 days, and (when I first connect it to iTunes, it says 15.9 GB disk space, but then when it finishes, it jumps to 20.2 GB of disk space.)
What gives? Why is there roughly 4.3 GB of "used" space all of a sudden at the end of syncing on the iPhone? It is the same set of songs. (Yes, both the iPod and iPhone have "Sync only checked songs and videos", "Sync Music -> Entire music library" and "Sync Music -> Include music videos".)
After all is done, I have the following:
iPod = 6.8 GB free space (sure, apps make up 1GB of difference)
iPhone = 0.86 GB free space
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

I have this same issue with my iPhone 4 and using the 128 kbps conversion option. It'll show a lower capacity usage at times then jump up to a significantly higher capacity usage. Furthermore, if I get down to about 1GB free on the phone. I can't sync even a single additional song.
Have you (or anyone) ever resolved this issue?
    Tony

  • Phone Disk Shows Incorrect Free Space

    Hi all
I am using Phone Disk on the Mac (makes the iPad/iPhone show up as a hard drive) and its showing the incorrect amount of hard drive capacity and free space.  It does this on both mine and my girlfriends iPhone and also on my iPad. For example, I know I have 10gb available on my 64gb iPad but Phone Disk shows me I have only 900mb free out of 1.5gb of hard drive space.  I have also installed iPhone Explorer and this also has the same problem.  I'm a little confused!
    Thanks
    Rich

The available disk space reported in finder is totally wrong.
Even if it accounts for the local snapshots. In my macbook air it shows 120 Available in finder which is just 1GB less than my SSD capacity.

  • After Yosemite Upgrade my Macbook shows incorrect free space available on Macintosh HD

Hey all .... after doing the Yosemite upgrade on my Mid 2010 15" MacBook Pro it finished but when I double click on the Macintosh HD it shows 140.62 TB available ... kinda impossible since I only have a 500GB drive inside the laptop ...
Methinks I found a bug ... not a huge deal as I know it's likely 140.62 GB free as opposed to TB ... just find it curious ...

Hey - did you get anywhere with this?
I have the exact same problem and it is definitely related to iTunes Match (I enabled 24 hours ago and the problem started immediately).
In my case the actual phone displays the correct information (about 1.3gb free) but via iTunes (either connecting over wifi or over usb) it displays 19.4 gb free.
In my case the difference is almost exactly the size of my iTunes library.
Here is what I belive is happening (no fix yet).
I have enabled iTunes Match on my phone but I have left the song files on the phone (i.e. I play files actually from the device and not from the cloud) . Now, when I connect to iTunes, iTunes sees merely that iTunes Match is enabled and therefore belives that the phone does not contain any downloaded music (or at least did not contain any at the point iTunes Match was enabled) and therefore displays a library-size chunk as free space.
One fix which I suspect would work would be to delete my entire library from the iPhone, enable itunes Match and redownload the entire library from the phone. That however is not something I want to entertain at present.
This has to be a bug at Apple's end - I hope they fix it soon!

  • HT1338 My mac Mini shows full hard disk when it is not really full. Shows some free space upon start up that gradually disappears without doing anything with the Mac.

My Mac shows a full hard disk even though the disk is not full. There are several GB of unused space if I add the sizes of all the folders in the disk. Under the disk info window the free space shrinks to zero after a short period of time. It shows more space upon restart, but then it shrinks eventually to zero space available. is there a way to solve this?

  • Finder reports different free space on disk compared to DiskUtil

After upgrading to Lion I am facing a very strange problem:
Finder reports much more free space on my Macintosh HD compared to Disk Utility. I also take a look on what Daisy Disk reports and
daisy Disk reports exactly the same numbers  like Disk Utility. Booted into Lion recovery partitions and preformed disk verify and repair.
Everything seems to be fine except that finder reports significantly more free space (350 GB) compared to Disk Utility (364 GB).
    Any advise ?

Trash is empty. Checked this also via Terminal. And one more comment: I do not have a Bootcamp partition. I never had one and never created one.

  • My iPhone 4s in iTunes shows incorrect free space!

Okay, this is very odd... when my iPhone 4S is plugged in, it says that I have way more free space than should be available?  What in the world is going on?  I wished I had the 64 GB iPhone, but I don't.  It seems to incorrectly calculate my free space on my iPhone 4S repeatedly.  I am doing a restore of my iPhone right now, hoping that will address the issue.  Now I do have iTune Match turned on and am wondering if that has something to do with this?  It seems to get confused with what I had on my iPhone and what is in iTune Mactch.  I only saw this after doing the iTune Match thingy.

  • Disk Utility shows different available space than Finder?

I just reinstalled Lion from a fresh harddrive. I did not use the migration asistance to pull files over to the new drive, I selested files and dragged them over, So not to fill the drive with things I dont need....
So I "Get info" on the main harddrive it shows
Which is crazy! Then I use Disk Invintory and it shows:
    and Disk Untility shows:
Why the difference? Simple question and How do I free up space?
I'm also trying to back up using time capsule*

Well, I'm seeing the same thing so before I post yet another note to this group and get no response, I'll at least throw in my .02 cents here as well.  Not sure you've found the solution but I've recently started seeing the same thing.
If you use Time Machine, most likely, the difference is your Local Snapshots.  Those are kept on the OSX drive on laptops, so you can have access to them when your normal external backups aren't available.
They'll be deleted automatically if your disk gets over 80% full, so aren't shown by the Finder, so you won't worry about the space they take up.  Plus, they're "thinned" to one per day after 24 hours, then deleted after a week.
So they really don't cause a problem, other than showing the different amounts.
See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #30 for the gory details.
If that doesn't fully explain the space problem, see Where did my Disk Space go?
To top this off, what else I'm finding is that there are a number of anomalies I'm encountering that seem mysterious such as Mail no longer functioning correctly, apps crashing, computer restarts randomly.
It all started back in April when my HD crashed and I had to have Apple replace it.  Since then, I've gone through 3 "Logic Boards" and even had Apple do further tests but cannot find anything else wrong with it.  I'm really struggling with this one!
Sounds like you may have other problems, too.
If Apple has replaced 3 logic boards, but the problem persists, you may want to call AppleCare and ask for Customer Relations.  They may not want to transfer you, but insist on it (politely, of course, but firmly).  Have all the dates and details handy for them.  Ask them to either get it fixed, or replaced.

  • Finder not showing correct free space for DROBO

I have replaced a "working" 16TB (8*2TB drive) DroboPlus with (3*4TB +5*2TB) drives after a low space warning ( just under 1TB free with double redundancy)
I Am having the problem with free memory being shown as 439.4 Mb from Yosemite finder for my FW800 connected DroboPro (1.2.2) ( also using USB2)
(It very very occasionally it shows the correct value but there does not seem to be a logic in it.)
    MBP (early2011) 10.10.1
    running just one 16TB volume,
    Drobo Dashboard (2.6.3) shows 9.81TB used with 6.18TB free  ( from 20TB 4+4+4+2+2+2+2+2 single redundancy=3.94TB)
"About this mac">Storage shows 6.8TB free of 17.59TB (with data type other=10.79TB)
Disk Utilty shows Drobo as 17.59TB with 6.8TB available.
How can I get finder to show a more "correct" value, as I cannot save any files (>439Mb) to it despite plenty of memory available.
Other applications and OS DiskUtility and Storage show correct values.
I have tried saving a small file at route level and also preventing spotlight from indexing it, both make no difference.
Drobo non-Suport do not want to know as the DroboPro is no longer available.  Caveat Emptor

What is the source that you are looking at?
Download OmniDiskSweeper and/or Grand Perspective and open it.  How does it compare with your MBP data?
    Ciao.

  • ITunes shows different disk space during synchronisation and after completing synchronisation

I have about 13'000 songs on my iMac (actual used hard disk space 107 GB) and i sync the music with my iPhone 5. I use the sync option «... convert titles larger than 128 kBit/s ...», so that there is enough space for all my songs on the iPhone. If i start the sync process, it says 13'000 songs, space needed 49 GB. After completet sync process, it shows 54 GB disk space used für the 13'000 songs!?!?! After a few minutes, there again, i get the right information about used disk space für music displayed, 49 GB. Anybody any idea what causes this effect? Thx for any idea.

And here two screenshots of the inconsistent behaviour of used / free disk space:

  • Creative Cloud Desktop App Shows Incorrect Free Space Remaining

    Hello,
I have a technical issue with my creative cloud account.  My CC desktop application (Windows) shows as having 46.7% of the available space used, and at present I have no files stored or in my creative cloud archive.  Something is definitely amiss!
    Thanks,
    -Jon

@randyc - Please provide more details. Are you still seeing the "Out of storage" message?
If so we need the log files for desktop sync (CoreSync). The location for each OS are:
    Mac OS X: ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CoreSync/CoreSync-yyyy-mm-dd.log
    Windows: %APPDATA%/Adobe/CoreSync/CoreSync-yyyy-mm-dd.log
Note that on Mac OS X to see the user library from the Finder click on the Go menu and hold down the Alt/ Option key. Note that on Windows %APPDATA% is a variable that will change to the correct path depending on if version of Windows being used.

  • Disk Utility Shows Incorrect Free Space

I've had this problem for a while now, and I've been unable to figure out why. I can't even remember when it started, but it has become quite a nuisance.
The Finder window shows that I have 302GB of harddrive space remaining, out of 500GB. The Activity Monitor and Disk Utility show I have 240GB space remaining, and my System Profiler shows I have 239GB remaining. I just deleted a bunch of old TV shows off of iTunes (about 40GB worth) to open up some space, but only the Finder changed (up to 302GB from 260GB) but the Activity Monitor, Disk Utility, and System Profiler haven't changed.
Now, I'll assume the Finder is showing the correct amount of space, but I'm wondering why the other utilites are showing the incorrent amount of space. I have a feeling maybe something was screwed up when I created a 50GB Windows 7 partition through Boot Camp a couple months ago.
I've attempted to Repair Disk through the Disk Utility and it says everything looks fine. Any solutions to this minor inconvenience? Or at least an answer as to why this is happening?

Cheers, this helped alot. It turned out it was the snapshots that time machine takes and saves on the internal Macintosh HD. which then the snapshots show as free space.
