Satellite C660-2EV suddenly started giving me the BSOD

Last week my 2 year old laptop suddenly started giving me the BSOD. There does not appear to be anything that triggers it. Not sure what information I should provide but I have tried a system restore to an earlier date but that hasn't fixed it.
I have managed to perform a data backup, and I do have recovery discs. I also purchased extended warranty last year.
Should I arrange for repair or is there something else I can try first?
Thanks.

> I should provide but I have tried a system restore to an earlier date but that hasn't fixed it.
I dont think this is the best choice. I would recommend you to recover the notebook back to the factory settings, either using the Toshiba HDD recovery or the Toshiba Recovery disk.
If BSOD would appear after the System Recovery, I would recommend you to check exactly the content of BSOD.
Sometimes not compatible drivers could cause the BSOD.
But of course, also hardware problems (memory issues) could be the reason for BSOD.
In such case you should contact the Toshiba ASP in order to check the hardware.

HPE-170f suddenly starts giving POST codes at power on.
Have Logitech solar blue tooth keyboard  and Logitech bluetooth trackball.
POST code is short, short, long ... if anyone remembers what that means.
Have been randomly successful at continuing boot after connecting USB keyboard and disconnecting all other USB devices and then  holding ESC while turning on.  Not 100%, but works mostly.
I have no idea if anything USB is actually causing.
After boot starts and WIN is loaded, everything else seems normal.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks, dtipton

    Hi,
Short, short long typically is a video problem.
What hardware changes have you made to the PC?
Unplug your PC and open it up.  Remove the video card and use a can of compressed to clean out teh dust from inside the card. Now put everything back together and give it a go.
Remove as many USB devices as possible and then monitor the situation.
It's possible that you have a flaky video card or power supply.

  • Satellite C660-2EV crashed with BSOD and does not boot

My Satellite laptop C660-2EV running Windows 7, for no apparent reason crashed to the blue screen of death, after which it would not reboot.
I have attempted to reboot in safe mode using the function keys but it gets as far as loading: windows\system32\drivers/classpnp.sys and then just sits there. From the various Internet posts it would appear that there is no definitive answer to this problem. Recommendation is to reload using recovery disks or the hidden image.
I cannot access the user manual as it is on the laptop so i have referenced the various posts on the internet. I had created repair and recovery disks when i purchased the laptop and so following various posts I booted my system with the repair disk and the process started.
Unfortunately the screens that appeared were different than those in the posts and as I do not have access to a user manual, I do not know if I am following the correct procedure.
Can anybody provide me with a PDF user manual for a C660-2EV laptop ?
Alternatively can anybody advise me how to reload Windows 7 ?
    Thank you in anticipation.

Users manuals document can be downloaded from http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_manuals.jsp
Anyway, if you have created recovery discs please start your notebook and press f12 to enter boot menu. When boot menu is shown on the screen put recovery disc 1 into optical disc drive and choose CD/DVD device as bootable device and press ENTER.
Installation should start. What you must do is just to follow menu on the screen. It must be similar as sown on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm

  • Satellite C660 does not start up

Yesterday we purchased a Satellite C660 with Windows 7 64bit installed. Worked just fine but today the laptop does not start up again. Updates were installed but after pressing the power button the light of the hdd turns on for a few seconds, the vents work for two seconds and then ... nothing !
    Please help !

You cannot start notebook at all?
Can you enter BIOS settings with F2 at start up?
    Which updates have you installed?
If nothing works you have only one choice: either bring it back to your local dealer and ask for replacement or contact Toshiba service provider directly. They can check hardware and help you with this.

  • Satellite C660 freezes on start-up

Hey guys can you help with my laptop, Toshiba Satellite C660-17J. On startup it freezes although not all the time. By freezing i mean i can move the mouse but not open anything and nothing on the task bar will highlight. The only thing i can see different is the network(wireless) icon doesn't always show up. The last few times it has though but has only shown the searching for networks symbol.
If i turn of the laptop using the power button and start in safe mode then restart it works OK. Do you have any suggestions whats causing this?

We dont know how do you use your notebook and how have you configured preinstalled OS so it is not easy to say what is wrong there.
To be honest I agree with Francesco. Best thing you can do is to back-up all your important data and install recovery image again.
After doing this you will have clean preinstalled OS and everything will be OK again, I hope.
If you have more questions about all this you are welcome.

  • Satellite C660 won't start

    Hi to all,
my sister in-law bought her laptop up to me today because it switches on and goes to the windows logo then all of a sudden theirs a quick glimpse of a blue screen and then it shuts down re-starts and does the same.
i can press the f8 key and i get the boot options, ie recovery mode but it just does the same thing, i then tried a windows DVD in the drive and it boots from the DVD and installs the files but then hangs with just a black screen and the white curser, its not froze at this point i can move the curser around.
Does anyone have any idea what I can do now?
Thank you in advance for your time.

    > it boots from the DVD and installs the files but then hangs with just a black screen and the white curser, its not froze at this point i can move the curser around.
In your case I would start to test the HDD and the RAM module.
Possible its an memory fault since the BSOD could be caused by faulty RAM modules.
You could try to remove one module and could try to install the system using one RAM module in each slot. Test it with each module in each slot

  • Satellite C660 will not start - OS not found - where to get install disk?

I replaced the HDD in my Toshiba Laptop C660 - following a support check indicated the old one was dead. The laptop initially comes up with the Toshiba Logo then starts scrolling and ends with "Operating System not found".
I do not have a recovery disk / USB. Any helpful advise would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

  • Satellite C660-21Q wont start

Hi guys, new to this forum so bare with me!
    I dropped my laptop last week, on its side. Now when I turn on, it is on a black screen with the white blinker at the top left hand side. After a while, the "Toshiba" loading screen comes on (where you can seleft f2 and f12 for the menus), after that the screen stays a blank black for a minute, and it comes up with the boot menu ( I think). There are four options;
    HDD/SSD
    CD/DVD
    FDD
    LAN
I can exit this, and lots of text comes up ( I dont know what it says, it goes away too quickly) and it takes me right back to the boot menu. When I click enter on all of these, they all say they are failed.
Can anyone help me with this situation?

    > Now when I turn on, it is on a black screen with the white blinker at the top left hand sid
Yes it looks like the HDD cannot be found
Check the connection to the HDD. Maybe its loose
In worst case the HDD is damage and you will need to replace the HDD.
You will need a 2.5 SATA HDD.

  • TS3320 My Ipad 2 suddenly have been giving me the "could not open" mas when I tap my safari  icon, what should I do now?  I recently added the Skype app, could that be the reason?

Should I be clearing my history and cookies?  My I pad just started giving me the "could not open page" message and I am not sure why. Not very computer literate.

Do a FACTORY RESTORE...not from your back...
Make sure you DON'T allow iTunes to  back-up your Ipad before this as it will Replace your back up with the funcky New app arrangement and soo on..
Now after the Factory restore, restart iTunes and do a restore from the Back-p. AGAIN don't let iTunes do a back-up prior to this...

  • Re: Win XP drivers for Satellite C660 needed

    cheers toshiba community,
first off this notebook is my first contact with toshiba. browsing the site/forum is a pain!
Reminds me of browsing via isdn times...
As you might guess i dont like win 7 very much, maybe because i dont understand why it is that uncomfortable and needs to garbage the hd that much.
Its stable and working but doesnt satisfy me when it comes to customization and transparency.
So im about to replace it with win xp (or archlinux).
Before starting having the needed drivers is essential and that's where im stuck right now.
One could hope the xp internal drivers will budge or make sure the needed packages are already there. definitely i prefer the 2nd.
Link: [toshiba download center search|http://www.pictureupload.de/originals/pictures/100112101116_Treiber_herunterladen_-_Toshiba.png] came up with 4 results, *only network drivers are officially available for win xp*...
    graphics driver aint a problem.
*the question is where to get the others?* webcam, audio, touchpad, etc
*will xp standard drivers offer basic functionality?*
*or is there a basic 'source' on this forum im not aware of?*
*or maybe theres a toshiba app dealing with that problem?*
*or even worse doesnt toshiba provide builds for xp?*
i wont believe toshiba forces to use win7.
Any infos/sources would be helpful and are greatly appreciated!
Any complaints on prefering xp over win7 are off topic and subjective.
Btw it seems to be a important needed info: recovery medias were created

    Hi
I visited the Toshiba European driver page and was able to find the Win XP drivers for the Satellite C660 as you can see on the screenshot.
    <img src='http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/3808/captureqbo.png' border='0' width=530px/>
Unfortunately its not a driver package so you will need to download the single drivers step by step

  • Satellite C660-174 - Rattling covered by warranty?

I have a Toshiba Satellite C660-174 and it rattles in the top right hand corner near the CD drive as if something is loose.
I am wondering if i should send the laptop back to be repaired under the warranty or if there is a way to solve the problem myself?
    Thank you

    Hi Parkish,
Usually this rattling should also be covered by warranty because it seems to be a hardware malfunction and its not a software problem.
You should contact nearest authorized service provider, then you can ask for help and the guys will do everything to help you.
Here is a list of them:

  • Satellite C660 keyboard and mouse not working

I have a Satellite C660 that is about to exit the window.
The list of problems are as follows:
    Keyboard doesn't work
Mouse pad and button's don't work
USB mouse and keyboard don't work (but light up with power)
It also likes to turn itself off randomly when the battery in but this is the least of the problems.
any ideas as to why this is doing this and what can be done to fix it will be much appreciated.
    thanks.

    Hi
Im wondering about your statement about external USB mouse and keyboard.
I thought that your problem was related to faulty touchpad module and internal keyboard but now Im thinking that this cannot be the case since the external USB keyboard does not work as well as the external USB mouse.
Probably its more serious hardware malfunction: maybe something related to the motherboard??? Who knows an hardware diagnostic test needs to be done to confirm this
Just one question: are you able to access the BIOS? I mean does the F2 keyboard button work in order to access the BIOS?
