Satellite C660 fails to boot first time

I have a Satellite C660 - PSC0AQ-03C019 + 1B194392K
For the last year the notebook has been running fine however in the last 2 months it has had a boot issue. The first attempted boot of the day, it will not boot, it powers on gets past the boot screens past the blinking cursor top left then stalls with a blank screen (not cursor just a faint glow).
Pressing and holding the power button turning it off and then turning on again the computer will start. sometimes (not always ) it will ask to boot normally or repair.
The notebook works perfectly in use not errors not crashes. Restarting the notebook works as expected shutting down and powering on after 5 mins works fine.
If the notebook is left off for an hour it or more it will not boot the same as above. powering off and powering on the system will boot but with start normally question.
There are no errors shown in system logs
I have performed a full system reinstall from HDD recovery.
I have performed a full system reinstall from DVD recovery.
I have performed a full system reinstall from DVD on to a brand new hard drive recovery.
I have replaced the ram
I have attempted to update the bios but get an error
Bios version above 200
Battery capacity more than 10%
AC is attached

Thanks for your suggestions. Just to clarify what is happening and what I have done so far.
Every time the Satellite C660 notebook is turned on when it has been sitting turned off for more than an hour it will not boot.
Power on goes like this
The Toshiba splash screen comes up
The blinking cursor on the top left appears then disappears
The screen goes blank (noticeably on still, but blank)
No matter how long it is left it stays at this screen
The above has happens so
I press and hold the power button to turn it off
Press to turn the notebook back on - one out of three times it states the system failed to start - offering boot to safe mode or turn on normally
Pressing boot normally the computer will boot successfully
The Satellite C660 will run perfectly with no errors, failures or crashes
Reboot the Satellite C660 it will restart and boot correctly
Turn the notebook off and leave it for an hour and it will not boot.
I have scanned the original HDD and it has no errors or issues
I have performed a full system reinstall using manufacturers HDD recovery.
I have performed a full system reinstall from DVD recovery.
I have performed a full system reinstall from DVD on to a brand new hard drive recovery.
I have tested the brand new HDD no errors
I have replaced the RAM memory
There are no errors shown in system logs
I have set the BIOS to defaults
I have set the boot order to boot from HDD first
I have not been able to update the BIOS as when the Toshiba update or manual download and attempt to update the BIOS fails.
On a restart the computer boots as normal
When booting for the first time of the day or if the computer is off for an hour or more it will not boot into Windows

  • Virtualbox winxpguest fails to boot second time

I wanted to build a winxp sp2 vm on my arch acer revo, but I don't have a cdrom there.
I have VirtualBox installed on another machine which does have a cdrom and have built a machine there. Both machines are running Arch Linux latest with
    kernel 3.12.1-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Nov 21 08:18:42 CET 2013 x86_64 GNU/Linux
and the following vbox packages installed
    virtualbox 4.3.2-1
    virtualbox-ext-oracle 4.3.2-1
    virtualbox-guest-iso 4.3.2-1
    virtualbox-host-modules 4.3.2-4
and the running user is in the vboxusers group.
On the build machine everything runs fine for multiple boots etc etc.
However, when I transfer the vm to the revo I find that winxp will boot just once. It doesn't seem to matter whether  I just rsync across or use virtualbox export/import.
On the build machine I made sure that the VTx/AMD stuff is off (that option is not available on the revo), but clearly there's some residual issue.
I see this in the VBox log for the failing case

Googling doesn't seem to reveal a suitable fix that works.
Edit: I find that after a reboot of the host machine that the winxp guest will boot properly at least once, but after one or two reboots the guest again starts hanging.
Edit: The VM is not the issue, nor its source. I built a new VM with an arch linux iso on the REVO and that too will only boot after a host restart.

  • Satellite C660 won't boot to disc or USB

My Toshiba Satellite C660-DSC0QE, running BIOS version 1.80, won't boot into Windows any more - it just goes to the dreaded black screen with white cursor.
I've tried a Win 7 system recovery disc, a USB stick with Kaspersky recovery software on it, and even a full Win 7 installation disc, and it won't boot to any of them.
The boot order is set correctly, the devices (optical drive or USB port) do get read, but they never actually boot into them - there's either an obscure error message or it acts like they weren't there at all.
The obvious answer from these forums seems to be to turn off secure boot mode and to then switch the boot mode from UEFI to CSM. Easier said than done - those menu options don't exist at all in my BIOS/CMOS screens.
Finally, I don't see a way in the instructions to get a BIOS update to happen without being in Windows on the PC already - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9502M10000R01.htm I'm assuming BIOS version 2.00 would have these options.
    Any help gratefully accepted!

    Hi
I assume youve got an white, blinking cursor in the left upper corner.
    Is this correct?
Such symptoms appear in case the system cannot find a bootable device (HDD) or in case of memory (RAM module) problems.
First of all you said that you dont have UEFI / CSM boot mode in the BIOS settings.
So Im asking you what boot mode settings do appear in BIOS exactly?
Did you search for these settings in the right area?
Usually you should have in BIOS an area (tab) called security.
In most cases there you will find secure boot option but the Satellite C660 does not support such option because its too old.
But boot mode (UEFI /CSM) should be available in BIOS. Check the BIOS area System settings
Anyway, as I said above; it could be also an memory issue therefore I would recommend you to check if memory is OK.

  • Monitor doesnt wake up when booting first time, have to restart - k9n ultra-2f

So, I have few problems. The main problem is in da topic:
I bought an used computer about two weeks ago. I installed windows and all drivers etc.
With the old bios (cant remember what version) all was okay except always in boot an error message was shown that said something that the proseccor could not be recognised but the processor was still shown right in My Computer.. :s
Because of that error message i decided to update bios. I updated it throught live update 3 to v.3.6 and now i dont get the processor error message but the monitor doesnt wake up in the boot.. I have to press reset button and then when the monitor wakes up there comes an error message what says something like "Warning!!! The previous performance of overclocking is failed, and the system is restored to the defauls settings". Then I press any key and windows boots normally.
I reupdated v.3.6 bios today manually from floppydisk but the problem didnt go anywhere.
I have searched this forum but cant find same kind of problem posted.
Can somebody please help me with this and tell what could be the problem?
Also when booting second time so that the monitor wakes up, i get four alert sounds.. What could those mean?
My computer is pretty powerful (amd athlon 64 5600+ x2, club3d gf 7950gt, 2gb 533mhz..) It should be very smooth and fast but it often appears slowliness and ..how can i say it.. temporary tilting? :p And the 3dmark03 benchmark gives me 19465 points, it should be giving much more. The computer is clean, no viruses or adware. What could cause this?
Sorry for the messy message and bad english and im not really good at computers

    Thanks for the reply.
I didnt have this issue before updating BIOS..
And i didnt find jbat1 from my k9n ultra-2f. I didnt even find it from the mb manual. Theres only a Clear CMOS Button: SW2. I pushed it few times and then i rebooted my computer. At the first time the monitor woke up instantly and i was like wohooooo but then i shut down the computer and booted it again.. The monitor didnt wake up before pressing the reset button, the same problem was back.
I think that the SW2 button reset the bios settings like the jbat1 would do, because i had disabled the big logo at the boot and after pressing SW2 the logo was back.
Then i set the memory vcore to 2.0V but it didnt help. Infact i think the computer had come a bit more slowly.. :s I think it may be the RAM what makes my comp so slow... dunno.

  • Satellite C660-2EL wont boot

    Hi guys,
after a few solid days of frustration here I am.
    I'm working on a friends Satellite C660-2EL
It was stuck in the endless Win 7 boot loop and would not be recovered by any means.
So I decided a format was the way to go.
After the format using partition magic everything was going smoothly.
I reinstalled Win 7 and the setup was also going fine. Once the setup was completed and it did a restart I decided to pop into the BIOS and amend the boot order as I had set it to CD drive first. So after changing the settings then saving and exiting the damn thing refuses to boot at all now, not from CD HD or anything else.
The toshiba screen flashes up but when I hit F2 now it just freezes saying entering setup.
When I try to hit F12 the screen goes back to the blinking curser.
If I press nothing I get the blank screen with the curser.
I saw a video on you tube for resetting the CMOS, I've tried this with no luck.
    Any ideas guys?

You are not able to access the BIOS???
Damn :( this does not look very good
Did you check RAM?? No? Remove the modules and try to boot up the unit using one module in each slot. Test both modules
But since you tried to reset the CMOS (not sure how you did it) it could be possible that your motherboard is already damaged.
This means that new mobo is required and this is expensive part

  • Why does my desktop PC fail to boot first try?

After having since installed Windows 10 Technical Preview on a 80GB HDD, single partition, as a main OS (NOT DUAL BOOT).
whenever I start up my desktop PC for the first time it automatically turns off just before I am able to login to Windows 10 Technical Preview.
When I turn on my desktop PC a second time Windows 10 Technical Preview starts up fine.
I tested this a few times in succession and every time I shut down my computer and then turn it on, loading Windows 10 Technical Preview, it loads the preview successfully.  However after leaving my computer off for a period of at least 30 minutes and
then turning it back on, the first boot causes my desktop PC to automatically turn off before I'm able to login.
I would like to continue using the Windows 10 Technical Preview but if I'm unable to successfully boot up the first time, every time, it's frustrating.
    My Desktop PC System Specifications:
CPU: Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield Quad-Core
MB:   ASUS P7P55D - Hybrid Series
    RAM: Corsair XMS3 4GB DDR3 1600
    HDD: Seagate 80GB 7200 RPM
    GPU: SAPPHIRE HD 7750 1GB GDDR5
    PSU: Antec CP-850

    Sam_Prince,
Do you have any unnecessary devices such as USB drives connected?
If you installed Windows 10 Technical Preview from a USB drive and left it connected, that could be the cause of the issue if it is malfunctioning.
Try disconnecting any unnecessary peripherals when you boot.
If that solves the issue, connect them back one by one until you find out which one is causing problems.
Another possible cause could be your memory.
If it isn’t seated properly into the motherboard, that would cause problems.
You can also try running the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool.
From the Start button, type memory into the search field and select
Diagnose your computer’s memory problems.  Then select Restart now and check for problems.
    Hope this helps!

It should all be about cache headers (Pragma, Cache-Control, Expires, ...). Page expires as soon as it's saved on local file system and JWS finds nothing good there.
Check header setting in your jsp.
You can see if server is adding any just by making a GET request with telnet, Headers should be shown.

  • My Satellite C660-155 wont boot up

My Toshiba Satellite C660-155 laptop wont boot up. When i turn it on i get a blinking "-" in top left corner, then the screen goes black and nothing happens after this. It is over a year old which means it is past its warranty.
This has happened before, about 4 or 6 weeks ago, a friend fixed but it has now returned to the black screen.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

For better understanding you must offer more precise information.
Can you enter Advanced boot optionsusing F8 at start-up?
Is option Repair my computer listed there?
Can you start OS in safe mode?
    Have you created recovery disc?

  • Satellite A500 fails to boot up

    Hi,
Every now and then (almost once daily), my A500 fails to boot up.
When I hit the power button, weird lines show up on the screen immediately and it sounds like there's not much power going to the processor.
It'll stay like this until I hit the power button again to shut it down.
    http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/5418/20112010747.jpg
It seems to boot up fine if I leave it for an arbitrary amount of time before trying again.
    Any thoughts?
    Cheers.

    Hi buddy,
I agree with the user above... I think this looks like a hardware malfunction and I doubt it has something to do with software
In your case I would contact an authorized service provider and ask for help. The technicians should check your notebook and if its still under warranty, the repair is for free.
You can find a list of ASPs here:

    Good luck! :)

    Hi buddy,
    > The game isn't graphic intensive and had worked for about a month with no problems, only recently has it begun to freeze
This could mean that the notebook is overheating now
The reason of overheating is dust that is blocking the fan so the notebook gets hotter
I would recommend cleaning it using compressed air spray to blow out the dust from cooling ventilators. You can do this without disassembling the computer so its very easy and takes 5 minutes only.
Just remove the battery and disconnect AC/DC adapter before you do this.
For example I clean my notebook every 4 months because a lot of dust is coming out so its worthwhile.

  • U410 fails to boot 9 times out of 10, does not reach BIOS or POST

I have a U410 that is only two months outside of its warranty and now it fails to boot, it powers on, but nothing comes up on the screen. The fan does start. Occasionally if I keep trying it will work and boot, but over the past two days this seems to have gone from bad to worse and now doesn't boot at all.
I opened it up and checked all connections were properly seated. I tried disconnecting the HDD/SSD/battery to see if it would at least get to the BIOS if I did that, but still same symptom: powers on, fan starts, but nothing bot a blank screen.
Has anyone else seen this? Any thoughts? I'm dissapointed as it doesn't seem to have occured for any reason (no drops, wasn't moved in months, etc) and this tarnishes my impressions of Lenovo.

    Hello,
Have you contacted Lenovo support directly to troubleshoot this further?  It might be worth calling them to see what additional suggestions they might have for investigating the issue.

Erase the drive and reinstall Snow Leopard, then restore the Home folder, third-party applications, etc. from your TM backup. For more help with TM I suggest reading the user tips: User Tips for Time Machine. You can also select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu and search for "time machine" to get the online help.

  • Computer won't boot first time after being powered down.

I just had my motherboard seviced because I needed the BIOS reprogrammed and MSI sent me a different board.  If my computer sits in the off position for awhile....  Upon power up, the computer will freeze at the logo screen.  If I push the reset button, it will boot up just fine.  I have not tried to disable the logo screen, but does anyone have any ideas?  Overall, I have not been happy with MSI or my 3rd "platinum" board.

Well, I did not have the problem before they sent me a different board and my PSU is definitely not the problem.
