Satellite C660D won't reload after Recovery

Hi, my dtr has the above notebook, only purchased in sept 2012 (so not too happy!!), and a month or so ago it had a "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL" problem, so advice was to reinstall Windows and all drivers.
I did try a few re-installs but in the end just did a full recovery (F8-Advanced boot- Repair your computer), and although i can log on in safe mode i cannot log on in normal mode. It went through the first Toshiba installation screen ok (loading drivers etc...35/35) but then when it says finishing installation it just goes on for hours and hours. I have tried going back to the Advanced boot screen (F8) and maybe doing a re-repairing the Windows, but now the "Repair your computer" prompt is not showing on the screen.
I have been told that i will probably need Recovery discs (she forgot to make them!) but not happy with having to pay 35.90eurs for them bearing in mind age of the machine and the amount of use it has had! Needless to say there wont be any more Toshiba products in this household for a good while....
Any info to a limited knowledge techy would be much appreciated...

I agree with Timox, most notebook manufacturers dont provide any recovery disks but you have always an option to create such disk using the preisnstalled software.
On Toshiba notebooks you can find the software called Recovery Media Creator.
However, I would like to say something about the error message:
+"DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL"+
In many cases this error would appear due to driver compatibly problems but also an hardware problem might be the reason why such error message would appear. I guess this error message appears in connection with Blue Screen Of Death.
On of the devices like video card, sound card, network card, USB device, etc might be the troublemaker. In such case its necessary to do a hardware clean boot to isolate which device is causing the issue.
You would need to unplug all the external devices and to start the System in Safe mode.
In Device manger you should disable all the mentioned devices.
Then you could boot the notebook in Normal Mode and could try to enable the device one by one to check out which device is causing the issue.

    Anyone know what this is about?
    I'm running OS X on a 2.7GHz i5 with 16GB of RAM on a iMac platform.
    I've tried to re-instal OS X, but that didn't help me at all. It didn't even change the error message.
    Thanks for the help apple community - Take care.

    Back up all data before proceeding.
    This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
    If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
    Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
    You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
    The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
    Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
    Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
    from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
    Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
    Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
    Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
    Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
    Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Satellite A200 won't boot from recovery disk

    I need to reinstall the notebook but every time I boot from CD it won't.
    I tried every boot disk ( xp pro, xp home, Toshiba recovery disk ) at house but none of it works.
    The recovery disk boots (windows is loading) but after loading my laptop restarts.

    > Try to run Recocery CD under Windows and then choose reinstall option from cd menu
    Something like that is not possible using the Toshiba Recovery disk
    > tried every boot disk ( xp pro, xp home, Toshiba recovery disk ) at house but none of it works.
    In my opinion your CD/DVD drive can not read the inserted medias and therefore its not possible to restore the operating system.
    I think the CD/DVD drive should be checked by an notebook technician and if necessary it should be replaced.

  • Satellite L350D - WLAN not working after recovery disk

    Hello there
    I just got a L350D. I ran the Recovery Disk tool, without any other programm running. It was on a good way of finishing the second disk and than: BAM! blue screen. Since the start up, my LAN and WLAN is not working.
    It always says "WLAN 2.0 bg Adapter" to which no driver is found. The correct driver is a Realtek for both WLAN and LAN.
    Do you think the crash busted the WLAN and LAN module?
    Things i tried:
    System reset
    Driver reinstall
    but nothing worked.
    Has anyone any hints?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi!
    I dont know what the reason is for this BSOD during the installation but can you post the BSOD code? So you can search on the Microsoft Knowledge Base for this code.
    Furthermore I would try to update the BIOS of your notebook that you can find on the Toshiba website:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
    After you have updated the BIOS try to update the driver of WLAN and LAN card or try to reinstall Windows again using the Toshiba recovery disk.
    Bye

  • Photoshop Elements 6 won't work after recovery

    After a system recovery on my HP, the Photoshop Elements 6 program will not reinstall.  All other programs are up and running.  The install from the disk appears to be successful, but I don't get the window to enter the serial number.  When I click on the icon, nothing happens.  Uninstall and reinstall results in same situation.  I have Windows Vista 2007.  Adobe gave it a case #184059543, but will not support it due to it being an "old" program.  Please advise.

    Try running application directly from exe of editor or organizer present in installed location of application.

  • Satellite C660D won't boot - BIOS update failed

    Hello,
    In last few days I've been getting a blue screen of death with the error "whea_uncorrectable_error", I read something about updating BIOS because the error is probably caused by old version of BIOS. I did the update correctly but as soon as my laptop restarted, nothing was booting.
    The fan and the keyboard are working but nothing else. I tried removing the RAM, removing the CMOS battery, pulling the main battery out and holding the power button, but nothing seems to be working.
    Can you please help me and tell me how to recover my BIOS?

    Yeah but the update process went trough, installation was complete and after the notebook restarted nothing came up, black screen and no response.
    Can I flash EPROM with the usb even though BIOS is not working? Doesn't that mean the usb port won't work?

  • Flash swf, in IE, won't reload after one viewing.

    I have a flash file which I have created, and when viewing the flash in a web page, it works fine in chrome/firefox, but in IE, the flash will only load correctly once. If you hit refresh, or navigate to another page and then go back to the page with the flash on it, the flash will freeze up at 0% of the load bar. This happens 100% everytime, but only in IE. Zero problems in other browsers. Has anyone ever expeienced this or wonder what it could be?

    After looking around on varous other forums this seems to be the issue:
    There are a bunch of known bugs in flash 9 and 10, one of those being an issue with the Event.COMPLETE not being fired from the main stage when loading from cache when it's embedded WMODE = "transparent"
    I'm not sure if that's your issue, but it's worth looking into. I've heard of a few workarounds to the problem. One of them being, not listening for for progress or complete events at all and just using a timed loop like ENTER_FRAME or TIMER to watch the bytesLoaded/bytesTotal."
    My WMODE is window, but this sounds like it makes the most sense. I have attached the AS3 file. From viewing the flash it appears to freeze up where it should be going into swfProgressHandle, I think that's whats happening because the load bar doesn't increase in width at all and loadText doesn't even get set to anything, which happens in swfProgressHandle. This what also coincide with the above quote. Now the problem I have is that I didn't write the loading area of this flash, I only wrote part of the stuff inside the loading functions and also everything inside init, the person who helped me with this I haven't been able to make contact with and this site is supposed to go live very very soon. I am desparate for help! At this point I'd be willing to paypal some money over to anyone who could help me with this and get this working appropriately.

  • Satellite S50 won't POST after memory upgrade

    Hello, all:
    I just purchased a brand-new 8gb Kinston memory stick (KTT-S3C/8G) for my one-month-old Satellite S50 (S50-ABT3N22). Slot A contains the standard issue 4GB stick that came with the unit so I put this into Slot B. When I install it, the machine refuses to POST. Kind of odd. So, I swapped the DIMMS and it still doesn't POST.
    Any idea what's going on? The DIMM is brand-new. On the Kingston label, it also has a Toshiba PN PA5037U-1M8G.
    Any info would be helpful. I'm hoping the DIMM isn't bad.
    Rich

    no worries.  Lots of folks miss the fact that their computer is spec'd with the "L" which stands for low voltage type of ram.  That's what the "L" stands for in the DDR3L 1600MHz.  You can likely run faster ram (or overclock to a faster speed if the bios allows) but you need to adhere to the voltage requirements, as well as the timings.

  • Image won't reload after it's removed

    I've got several images and when you scroll over each of them a window pops up with a slightly larger image of itself, and scroll off it removes itself, but when I scroll over it again it won't load the image.
    function preview0(e:MouseEvent):void {
         loader1 = new Loader();
         loader1.load(new URLRequest("Images/Previews/Australia.jpg"));
         loader1.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,show0,false,0,true);
         setter.array.push(loader1);
         thumb0_mc.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER,preview0);
    function show0(e:Event):void {
         stage.addChild(setter.array[0]);
         setter.array[0].mouseEnabled = false;
         setter.array[0].x = mouseX + 150;
         setter.array[0].y = mouseY + 50;
         setter.array[0].width = 187;
         setter.array[0].height = 200;
         setter.array[0].addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,displayPreview0,false,0,true);
         thumb0_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT,outView0,false,0,true);
    function outView0(e:MouseEvent):void {
         setter.array[0].removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,displayPreview0);
         thumb0_mc.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT,outView0);
         stage.removeChild(setter.array[0]);
         setter.array.shift();

    in outView0 you probably want to (re) add your rollover listener.  (or, don't remove the rollover listener.)

  • Satellite L300D - Won't load after BIOS update

    I had to update my bios & it seems that the wrong one was downloaded about 3% into installing the laptop just died & won't go back on.
    There are no lights & there is no noise from the laptop at all.
    Any ideas on how I can fix this?
    The laptop is a Toshiba satelite L300D

    Hello
    Well, if BIOS update crashed you can do nothing because the ROM module must be reflashed. This can only be done with special tools and only an authorized service provider has such tools.
    So please contact nearest Toshiba service and ask for help :)

  • Satellite A300 Won't boot after powering off during BIOS upgrade

    Hi,
    I was trying to upgrade the BIOS after reading an alert from TOSHIBA TEMPRO, after some time, it didn't seem to launch so I ran it a second time, then both BIOS application showed up in the taskbar only and it froze while I didn't start upgrading or anything, I had to power off.
    I tried to reboot but now, it just stays on black screen ( the monitor isn't even powered, as if the system wasn't running ), all leds are powered with the "accessing hard disk" flashing, the led from the DVD reader keeps on flashing while making a noise every 3 seconds or so.
    I've read on the forum that there may be no solutions but to take it to an authorized service provider, but I'm willing to take any possible solution before doing it.
    Thanks for any advice.
    Alex.

    Yes I did. Thank you. In my case I had to borrow the USB diskete but I was lucky to get to it!.
    The problems with the BIOS update are that there is no enough information about how to do the process. I found some important information after corrupting the BIOS while it should be available with the download archive. Also in my case the program started updating BIOS without prompting or anything and couldn't react to prepare everything on time. I could see this happens a lot. There may be a problem with that software because I heard people saying that everything seemed to work fine but then it didin't start up.
    The worst thing was that local support service wanted me to change the whole motherboard and then paying a lot for removing one of the passwords saying always that there was no other option even when it seemed they knew that wasn't true! I'm a upset with them.

  • Satellite L855 won't boot after BIOS update

    I downloaded the BIOS update and followed the instructions it gave during install, however upon reboot (which the setup initiated) I get a blank screen. The CPU fan intermittently starts and stops. I am thinking that the BIOS update was unsuccessful, how do I resolve this issue?
    Thank you,

    Hello Neil
    Generally speaking when BIOS is screwed up you need professional help and you should contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.
    Check also this thread. Maybe this methid can help you too.

  • Satellite C660D won't power up (MEB)

    1. Laptop was left on for several days unattended
    2. When next it was looked at there was a Windows error message that Windows had not closed down correctly and that the computer should be restarted in Safe Mode BUT at that time the whole keyboard was inoperative so, although the touch pad still worked, it was not possible to start in Safe Mode as neither the Return key nor the Enter key would work.
    3. I then tried to reset the computer by switching it off, disconnecting the AC power and removing the battery. However, when I reconnected the battery and AC supply, the computer wouldn't power up at all - no lights, no fan, absolutely nothing. I have also tried pressing and holding the power on button with no AC supply or battery connected. Nothing
    4. Any ideas? Is this a dead motherboard?

    Found this thread as I'm having very similar problems with C660-2EL - completely dead, no power LED, no fan even on mains power.
    Been working just fine, then keyboard started playing up by putting weird letter combinations up when key is pressed e.g.
    * press "a" get "A" (but doesn't capitalise anything else)
    * press shift and music starts
    * press "c" and get "2c" and cursor moves to start of line
    etc etc but mostly with LH side of keyboard.
    So far as I know it's not had anything spilled over it.
    Suspected dirt so gave it a hoover out - still no joy - and then investigated removing keyboard and found video saying look for screw under battery, so I removed the battery (actually not required on this model). Up to this point it had re-started without any problems.
    Reinstalled battery and bang - it's dead.
    No response to power button.
    No power LED when mains plugged in (yes, I checked supply and it charges my old Tosh just fine).
    Nothing.
    Nada.
    As this is daughter's laptop and she's in the middle of assignment due in 3 days, I removed HDD to get her work off (backups? What are they Dad??). Plugged it into my SATA>USB cable and it came up as drive not recognised on my Win7 desktop "Do you want to reformat?" and it couldn't find any partitions. Not sure if this is secondary problem or symptom from same issue? (Eventually got the data with Hirens TestDisk utility)
    Hope someone has ideas?

  • No wireless on Satellite C660d-14W after clean Win 7 intsallation

    Hello,
    I bought a toshiba satellite c660d-14w off a friend, and reinstalled a clean copy of windows 7 x64.
    After installing, the laptop didn't recognize any hardware (graphics, sound, wireless network card) so I've been slowly trying to install all the drivers for them all.
    However, no matter what I install for the wireless, it just doesn't seem to work.
    Have installed the realtek RTL8188CE driver, the wireless lan driver from the Toshiba website, and have set the network connections service to auto and restarted it and still nothing.
    In device manager, under network adapters, I have two entries:
    Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller
    Realtek RTL8188CE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC
    Both say they are working correctly and have the latest drivers but I have no access to wireless, the icon doesn't show in the tray, and i just get a generic error message from windows when trying to manually set it up.
    Please help!

    Try to use the command ipconfig /renew in the cms (command dos box)
    Also try this:
    Control Panel > Administration Tools > Computer Management > Services & Applications > Services.
    Scroll down this list to find 'WLAN Auto Config'
    Double click on 'WLAN Auto Config' On the general tab, select from the start up type drop down menu, select 'Automatic'. Under Service Status click on 'Start'. Then 'Apply' these settings and exit from all open control panel windows.
    Otherwise uninstall the Realtek driver in the device manager.
    Then reboot the notebook.
    Download the Realtek WLan driver again and install it.

  • Satellite C660D-104 does not boot after BIOS update

    Hello,
    I installed the latest bios on my computer Satellite C660D-104 but it has not rebooted.
    Where is the place to do a reset?
    Under the ram I have no triple x or B499
    I can not find, can you help me please?
    Thanks,

    BIOS update failed this means that ROM module (where the BIOS is stored) isnt flashed properly.
    As far as I know such issue could be resolved by flashing the ROM module again using Toshiba BIOS crisis disk.
    I guess Toshiba authorized service provider own such crisis disk and could reflash the ROM
