Satellite C75D-B7220 - Screen Continually Locks
Hey, Toshiba Support forums, I've had a problem with my laptop since around November, when I purchased the device. My Satellite C75D-B7220 has been locking up on me constantly ever since I got it. While using the computer (from right after booting up the computer at the log in screen to any time during use), the screen, backlight, power button, and any peripheral devices (e.g., a wired mouse) will go dark.
When this problem first arose, I would attempt to hit keys and the power button to turn the device back on, as well as shutting the screen and opening it again. The only thing that seemed to work (and still works) is adjusting the screen until the screen comes on again. The problem is, the screen will stay on from anywhere from several seconds (shutting off again) to an indefinite amount of time. Often, this will happen repeatedly, rendering the computer useless until I shut it off or until it seems to want to cooperate.
At first, the computer would actually lock, requiring me to put in my password to unlock the computer. This led to much frustration, as I would get half of my password in before the screen would lock again. Now, I have changed all of my power settings to allow for the computer to never lock upon closing the screen, no matter if plugged in or on battery power or on either power setting. This has led to me only needing to adjust the screen so it turns on again and brings me back to whatever I was doing, but has not solved the issue of the screen/power button/peripherals going dead and becoming unresponsive. I have gone into the Bios to allow using the keyboard to wake the computer up from locking, but this has been tempermental at best and does not always work in waking the computer up again.
This problem is not dependent on what I'm doing with the computer, either - I've had this happen while I was surfing the web, playing a video game, logging in (even before I've logged in), any time. At first I thought it may have been a software issue. I have removed some of the Toshiba proprietary software that came with the laptop, but nothing essential to the computer's function. I believe the issue is either some software malfunction due to the removal of some of the Toshiba-brand software, or more likely a faulty lid actuator switch. My questions are:
What pre-installed software, if anything, interacts with when/how/what happens when the lid closes?
If there is some sort of hardware issue, is it possible to get this computer repaired or replaced?
If you are in need of any more information, such as a list of installed software on the computer or other specifications, or if you all have any ideas or suggestions, I'd very much appreciate the help and would be willing to supply any info I can.
Thanks,
Ben Piche
Satellite C75D-B7220
The way to tell if the problem is due to hardware failure is to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents.
Settings > Change PC settings > Update and recovery tab > Recovery tab > Remove everything and reinstall Windows
You can keep your logon accounts and most of your data files, by doing it this way.
Settings > Change PC settings > Update and recovery tab > Recovery tab > Refresh your PC without affecting your files
If the problem occurs before the installation of any Windows updates, applications, or hardware, then it's not due to software on the hard drive.
For warranty repairs, call Toshiba at 800-457-7777.

I have an HP Pavilion p6540y just over a year old (ie no more warranty) & it continually locks, feeezes and blue screens us to death. We have reloaded windows 7, reloaded Office & in the last 2 weeks changed out the hard drive.
Also have updated with latest BIOS software & done all recommended steps to stop "sleep" issues
Any solution? Or is HP unable to build reliable products & support them when they crash.Ok, well, I called the tech support here in athens greece, and what did the guy told me? that I have to get the recovery cds as long as I deleted the recovery partition and did not make any recover y cd before deleting it. Fair enough I told him, I can understand this, but, I told, are you sure I am going to be able to actually install an os on this computer, cause I've already tried to install windows vista home premium, but the same thing happens, it return the same error as with windows 7 and xp! He said, yes, you're going to succeed, so I told him, ok, that means that there must be some kind of block inside the computer, most probably inside the bios, that prevents the installation of anything except the exact copy of the os that was preinstalled, and he didn't know exactly what to tell me, but more or less he told me yes, there is! Is that right, could the bios be blocking the installation of any other os? I can see in the bios that it says "preinstalled os: vista" something I've never seen in any other computer, but, can they do it? And why is this guy so sure the problem is that I was not using the recovery cds with the pre installed version of the os, couldn't be a cd/dvd drive problem? I have to pay for those recovery cds, what if it gives the same problem with those too?
Also I wanted to ask if someone knows how to make a bootable cd with the bios update, I mean which files should I extract from the exe, where and with what do I have to put them, etc., if someone coud please help me at least updating the bios, I could try installing the os from a usb key, so that I could tell for sure if it's a problem of the dvd drive.
Thanks. -
Green Screen with Toshiba Satellite C75D-A
Hey Alicia, don't mean to bump a 2 month old topic but exactly what you described word for word is EXACTLY the problem I'm having in Windows 8. Exactly. I can't right click videos to turn off "hardware acceleration" either. Using software rendering instead of GPU also tends not to work. I've been having this issue about 3 months after buying Laptop. Which is a Toshiba so its different than yours. Updated all drivers (which is a pain on Toshiba's) and have tried everything. Don't be fooled by the quick fixes, usually restarting, waiting and what not it'll restore the videos but they always fall back to green screens.
The ONLY thing that has made a temporary fix and even this hasn't worked 100%, maybe like 75% is going to advanced options in IE and hitting the "reset" button then restarting my computer. Unfortunately I have to go in and redo all my settings which is a pain but that does occasionally fix it.
The videos this happens to are ALL video types, not just adobe unfortunately. Youtube videos, ADVERTISEMENT videos on the side of web pages even. I'm still trying to find a fix to this for the past 8 months. The only satisfaction I get is that videos inexplicably begin to work again after a day. If you do find a permanent fix I would love to hear it.Won't let me do that either. Seems like what I'm pasting is to big, I'll have to divide it into different post

Screen problems - black screen and lock-up (plus HDMI issues)
Hi, I'm not sure if these are related to the same fundamental issue, but they are both serious problems that need resolution.
I have a new mid-2012 MBPretina. I am on all the latest updates (10.8.2).
The first problem is the most recent, and the most serious problem. Since I updated the Java a couple of days ago I've been experiencing random black screens and lock-ups. Essentially, what happens is that sometimes when I perform an action (opening an app, clicking a link on a webpage, performing other kinds of in-app actions, etc.) the computer screen will go black. About half the time I can, through my own memory, try keyboard combinations to quit or force quit the most recently used app (the one where the action was just performed), and I will get some glimpse of the underlying apps, while the menubar and other areas will remain black until I move a window on top of the black space. Sometimes no key combinations work and I am forced to perform a hard restart with the power button. This is a serious issue, obviously, since I will lose current work/progress in my apps. I'm not sure if this is because of the new Java update, or has to do with something else, but it started happening shortly thereafter, over the last 2 days. I work most of my waking day on my laptop, and this "black screen of death" has happened about 5 or 6 times a day.
The second problem I have been experiencing since I starting using my MBPr with external HDMI displays in August/September. The problem is that I will plug the MBPr into an HDMI display, the screen will temporaliy go black, and then bring me to the login screen (as if it's crashing, albeit softly). This happens about 1 out of 4 times nowadays.
How can I fix these problems, especially the first?UPDATE:
Clearly there's a problem because a third of the way through a clean reinstallation from scratch it black screened again. Hmmmm.
Now this is not good. Problem is I can't rule out potential updates from Apple that might have caused this either.
The search for solutions continues. -
Can't install windows 7 on Satellite C75D-B7260
Can't install windows 7 pro on Satellite C75D-B7260 I have tried a clean install and have tried through windows 8 pro. Win 7 won't get past start screen. You can install Windows 7 if you like. But I doubt you'll ever locate enough of the drivers and utilities to make that laptop work as designed. Toshiba certainly did not create them.
If you have no end of time to burn hunting for those and don't mind some features missing, here's how to install Windows 7. The disk now uses GPT partitioning, but you want the old MBR partitions. So use the installation package to remove all the existing partitions and create new ones (one is sufficient).

HT4623 my screen is locked it wont let me do anything tried to reboot alot but wont work help
my screen is locked or something it wont even let me put my password in i tried to reboot it alot but didnt work help
Hello Teresa,
Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPhone.
I recommend following steps 2-6 for an issue like the one you described:
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on),reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
You can find the full article here:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3281
If you get to step 5, I recommend backing up your iPhone before performing the restore:

Screen rotation locked iphone 5 s
My iphone 5s will not come off the "locked rotation" I've tried all the forum tricks still nothing! Please help!
Hi ,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your screen will not rotate as expected, try these troubleshooting steps:
Not all iOS apps are designed to rotate. Some may use only portrait or landscape mode, or switch depending on the content. To test screen rotation, open the Calculator app that comes with your device. If the screen does not rotate as expected while using the calculator app, continue troubleshooting.
If the issue persists, restart your iOS device.
If the screen remains locked, back up and restore your device.
If the display orientation still will not change when rotating your device, follow these troubleshooting steps.
You can find the article with these steps here:

I am unable to get into the chat. I tried explorer and chrome and neither will allow us to access the chat. It continues to go around and around.

MY screen continually freezes up. I've tried closing all apps that are open and have held down the home button and start button simultaneously but neither helped. Can someone out there help me?
Well the next couple of things to try would be to reset all settings, and if that doesn't help, it's probably time to restore the iOS software.
Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings. That will take all settings on the iPad back to factory defaults. It will not delete anything and you will not lose any data, but you will have to enter all settings again ...WiFi passwords, enable Siri, select your wallpaper, adjust brightness, turn on location services and set privacy settings, etc, etc.
You can read about restoring the software here.
iTunes: Restoring iOS software - Support - Apple
Should you decide to restore the iOS, it is extremely important that you back up first so that you can restore from the backup and then sync with iTunes afterward in order to restore all content back to the iPad. It is all covered in the kb article.
If you do not sync with iTunes, then I assume that you backup with iCloud. In that case you can erase the device in Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings. Once again, backing up with I loud is I,operative before you do this so that you can restore from the iCloud backup after you erase the iPad and start over again with activation.
You should read this first before you restore from either backup.
How to backup and restore from a backup
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
This is a must read before you erase the iPad should you decide to go that route.

I cannot receive phone calls or messages when iPhone screen is locked
Hello,
i have an iPhone 5.
i Am unable to receive phone calls or text messages when my screen is locked. When I unlock the screen the missed call doesn't even appear so I have no idea anyone has called me. Text messages come through at about 12:30am every night.
i Have tried EVERYTHING I could find in forums and Apple trouble shooting. This is my last resort other than sending it to Apple.
iit is as if "do not disturb" is stuck on, but it isn't.
i Have tried:
changing all all do not disturb settings.
checked call forwarding etc.
checked mute
my silent button is not on.
i have reset every setting and then even reset the phone and manually transferred everything back onto it rather than restore It from previous back ups.
oout it in recovery mode.
i Have no success with any.
the weird part is when I first lock the screen and try to call it, it does ring. But if I give it a minute or more it won't ring.
does anyone have any ideas or anything that may help?
PLease, please, pleaseI Have also checked blocked numbers and swapped SIM cards from a completely different carrier so it's not the carrier either

Trying to update OS on an original iPad. Connected to iTunes -- screen is locked showing iTunes/USB cable icons. iTunes says must restore to default settings, but receive an error message 3014 that this cannot be done. Cannot unlock screen to use nor can I update or restore, so iPad not usable at this point. How can I unlock screen so I can use iPad, how do I fix this error? Latest version of iTunes is downloaded and I've followed all the instructions in regard to Windows. I'd at least like to unlock iPad so it can be used. Thanks.
bummer. *Note that if you are actually running iOS 5.1.1, that's it for the iPad 1st Gen.

How can I get the screen to lock on my iPhone 4, so I don't press buttons while talking?
I just upgraded to the iPhone 4. When I am talking on the phone, the screen doesn't lock, so I am constantly pressing buttons or hanging up on the person I'm talking to. How can I get the screen to lock while I'm talking? It's driving me NUTS.
The otterbox is one of the culprits. Take the phone out of the case and see if it still happens. If so it is not the case. If the problem goes away, then you may need to make the hole slightly larger. My family has three iPhone 4's in otterboxes and none have this problem. how can I unlock my ipod touch? The screen is locked and has various languages on the sliding bar. the screen is grey and the normal screen saver is gone.
As a first attempt, try a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons untl the apple logo appears and it restarts, ignoring the red slider if that appears.

when i am on my home screen or locked screen, my battery usage and service toolbar has disappeared. How can i get it back?
Yeah there's no setting for that. So either you don't have an iPhone, or your iPhone is jail broken. If it's jail broken, just restore to factory and all will be fixed :)

Fresh Windows 7 install on Satellite C75D-B7200
Hey Toshiba Forums, My laptop, the C75D-B7200 recently had some HDD hardware problems so I got a new one and decided to put windows 7 64 bit on it. After the installation process was finished and I logged in, I couldn't connect to the internet. This was the case with the ethernet cord as well. I went to the Device Manager and saw that these drivers were listed under "Other devices" and had a error which was labeled "code 28". I then attempt to download the appropriate drivers but found no luck as the only downloadable options under windows 7 64 bit have nothing to do with the drivers i'm having trouble with. Anyone know what I should do?
Satellite C75D-B7200 (PSCLEU-006004)
Local downloads here.
Toshiba does not supply Windows 7 drivers and utilities for that model. You're best off restoring it to factory new.
But if you want to fool around (and probably waste lots of time), there do seem to be drivers for your part-number family PSCLEU here. The order of installation is important. You should install the AMD SM Bus and display driver first. I would install the remainder of the AMD drivers after that and prior to other drivers.
