Satellite C850-1CF and Win 8 - need to boot from CD

Hello,
I need to boot from a CD on my C850-1CF which came with win8 preinstalled.
F12 is not presented at boot time. I understand this is because of UEFI.
To boot from a CD, what should I do (change boot to legacy ?). If so, how do I revert back to UEFI (Win8 does not start if boot mode is set to legacy).
Pierre

Hello
What you must do at first is to perform a complete shutdown .
After doing this start your notebook and press F12 to enter boot menu. There is option Enter Setup. Choose this option and enter BIOS settings.
After doing this follow instructions described on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2B03F30002R01.htm and http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2C03F80002R01.htm

  • Installed, Win 7 Won't Boot from Second HDD

    Hi ya'll,
I've successfully installed Win7 64 Pro on a second internal HD on my fall '12 MBP (X.8.3), located in the optical bay. After having re-attached the first drive, Win7 shows up in the boot selection menu, but when selected, does not boot (error: "please insert boot disk and press any key").
My install process was as follows:
Format second drive into two partitions [OS Extended, FAT32] using disk utility, making sure that the second partition is provided a master boot record.
Disconnect primary drive (SSD), so that the second hdd is recognized as bootable from the Win7 installer.
Boot from prepared bootcamp thumbdrive using a fresh ISO.
Use windows installer to format FAT32 partition as NTFS.
    Install windows
    Install drivers
Update Win 7 and bootcamp drivers
    Power off
    Recconnect primary drive (SSD)
    Power on
Win 7 shows in boot menu. Instead of working, dead-ends at "no bootable device".
Can still boot from SSD or thumbdrive, but not Win7 partition
    Arggggh!
Is there a setting related to the HD controller that needs to be tweaked to make this work? Is there a known issue with the controller firmware? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

*Take an iMac and Windows 7 Blue screen fun*
the final part of the Win 7 install and Mr Blue screen due to the Nividia driver supplied on Win 7 DVD kills iMac GT7300
    1. Install... and Blue screen!
2.Re-boot but from the Win 7 install disk – seems to work if you hold alt on boot up and select the disk to boot from!
3.When you get into the Windows installer, click past the language selection. Then click "Repair your computer".
4.Windows will scan for installations and prompt you with a list. Select your "C" drive and click Next.
5.You should be presented with a windows titled *System Recovery Options*.
At the bottom of this list you should see +Command Prompt+.
    Select the command prompt.
6.When the console opens, you can delete the offending driver using the following command:
    DEL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\NVLDDMKM.SYS
7.Close the command prompt window and click the Restart button.
This time, boot from your hard disk.
You will complete the install with no Blue screen.
Having done this go to the Nivida web site and download the GT 7 series drivers for Windows 7.
    Install, re-boot and ...
+*... install Bootcamp drivers and right off your back to Blue Screen...*+
Repeat 1-7 and install newly downloaded drivers and off you go

  • I replaced my hard drive and used time machine to boot from but it installedthe unrepaired disk permissions of the faulty previous drive would this cause problems on my new drive?

I replaced my hard drive on macbook pro and used time machine to boot from but it also installed the unrepaired disk permmissions of the other drive, would this cause problems to my new drive?

Can you remember what the permissions problem was that you had before? You may need to reinstall OS X from scratch and not reinstall anything from your Time Machine backups. To be on the safe side you should reinstall all third-party applications from scratch, as well. Then only restore from your backup your document/data files.

  • How do I install Yosemite on a 2nd HDD I have added and have the Mac Pro boot from the new HDD?

My MacPro's HD seems to be failing. None of the tests I run indicate that, but I get constant spinning balls and everything takes a long time. I bought a 2nd HDD and installed it in the 2nd bayou my Early 2009 Mac Pro. I formatted it and want to install Yosemite and have the Mac boot off the new drive. It is currently running OS X 10.9.5. When I go to update to Yosemite it begins to download. Will it give me the option of which drive to install on? Or will it just upgrade the original Mac's HD?

    A Samsung 850 EVO 128GB SSD $75 now and makes a huge improvement. But get the 250GB which is $99. 500GB $199

Output from Etrecheck is an easy "quick check" of what your system is carrying around and what baggage it has.
Move data to a 'data and media library" drive.
Use CCC to skip the user data folders except ~/Library and clone to SSD
And might want to save the installer .ESD package for use as clean installer and to be able to boot from.

Sorry for my English I speak French and I hope I'm in the right forum

    Hi
You have to download and install the card reader controller driver for Win 8.1 system
This driver should be the right one:
    [Card Reader Controller v 6.1.8400.30136 Windows 8.1 - 64 Bit|http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=312&selProduct=7499&selSh ortMod=3417&language=13&selOS=all&selType=316&year upload=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode= allMachines&search=&action=search&macId=&country=a ll&selectedLanguage=13&type=316&page=1&ID=88526&OS ID=46&driverLanguage=42]

  • Satellite C850-B635 and Win7 - card reader is not working

My notebook came with windows 8 and the card reader was working
but I installed windows 7 64-bit , downloaded all required drivers to my notebook , but the card reader is not working now .
I downloaded a driver called card reader controller but it didn't work as well
I don't know if there is a problem or there is a driver that I should install and I don't know .
please help me solving that problem .
In my windows device manager these devices isn't recognized :
    *PCI simple communications controller
    *SM Bus Controller
    *Unknown Device
I tried to search in my drivers download page in Toshiba website but couldn't find these
please help me making my card reader working again.
    Regards
    Message was edited by: domaking

To me the case is simple and the reason why the SD card reader does not work is that an compatible driver isnt installed.
My theory seems to be correct since the SM bus controller and PCI simple communications controller appear in the device manager and I guess one of these devices belongs to the SD card reader/controller.
I think you should simply install this Realtek Card Reader Controller which I found on the Toshiba EU driver page
    http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/carc-20130924161048.zip
Furthermore you should install all other Win 7 drivers as well as Toshiba tools available for Satellite C850 series.
Very important is the chipset driver, USB 3.0 driver (Win 7 needs this driver to control the USB 3.0 port), display driver. etc
Not very essential tools are Bulletin Board, Online Product information, Reeltime, etc such additional tools dont improved the notebook performance so its up to you if you want to use these software parts

  • No CD or USB-boot on Satellite C850-Z19 - Only Win 8 boots up

    Hello!
    I just bought a Toshiba Satellite C850 - Z19 (Windows 8 is installed).
Although I edited the BIOS for booting with CD and USB before the HD, my usual bootable Debian Lenny and Squeeze CDs (32 or 64bit version) do not boot, only Windows 8 finally does.
I tried many BIOS config, I have no more idea; .the retailer (using Ubuntu) could not help.
    Is it possible?
    jchrbe

    Quite good track.
The UEFI mode was ON in the BIOS. To remove it:
    Starting the PC with [F2]
Advanced / System configuration / Starting mode: CSM rather than UEFI.
Typing a password for the superuser (otherwise, anybody controls your PC by BIOS access)
[F10] to exit and save the parameters
And never, never forget the password.
    Thanks

  • Atikmdag.sys BSOD appears on Satellite C850-19Q after Win 8.1 update

    Please help.
    I have Satellite C850-19Q (PSCBYE-00L00GY4), Windows 8 x64, after i update to 8.1 from store, show me BSOD (atikmdag.sys system_thread_exception_not_handled).
I tried to reinstall windows and again install all driver and updates, nothing changed.
    Do you have any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.
    Sorry about my english mistakes

    > i have windows 8.1 before few months ,normaly update without errors, they work perfect and after windows update my system is crash,
Maybe an further Windows updated muddled up the system. I know that graphic card drivers would be updated also automatically during system update too
Uninstall the graphic card driver from device manager.
Then download the Toshiba driver from Toshiba page and install it.
Then please keep eye on further updates in case graphic card driver would ask for update, ignore this notification.
Of course its only my idea but its worth a try

  • Satellite L650-10H - Multiple Win 7 entries in boot manager

I have Toshiba Satellite L650-10H and i recently reinstalled my Win 7 64-bit.
There is no problem at all except that at the notebook start i get this [http://tinypic.com/r/se7uja/6] .
3 Win 7 entries in the boot manager
I have to always choose the first one and everything is fine.
Its like the old copy of win didnt remove although a i have formated the discs...
Is there any option to get rid of it?
I dont mind reinstalling again if i know it will help .

    > Just wonder if i remove the program after i made the changes, will it stay or it will pop up again at startup?
    No, the changes will stay.
    > And the second problem is that it solved my problem just partially.
    >I would like to somehow remove the 2 copies of Win that i dont need if it is possible.
    >This program just "hide" them.
I assume you installed both OS on different partitions right?
In such case just remove/delete the partition where the other Win 7 systems are installed.
You can do that in Disk Management (right click on My Computer -> Manage -> Disk Management)

  • Iconia W700P - need to access bluetooth keyboard during UEFI boot or need to boot from USB stick

Solved one problem, now faced with two more: The W700P will now boot from an Acronis TI recovery DVD, but to select the restore function (then the specific backup to restore), it needs input from a keyboard. The Bluetooth keyboard that came with the W700P does not work during the boot sequence. I'd rather not go out and purchase a USB keyboard, but that may be the only option. Or - Can the W700P boot from a USB stick? I've read that it cannot, but in looking at the Acer store, that is all they offer as recovery media for the W700P. I made a bootable USB stick when I first bought the computer, but I cannot get it to boot. All I get is repeated Acer splash screens, perhaps as it tries the various options in the boot order. I've tried changing the order, have set a boot password and turned off secure boot, but I still have the same issue. Any ideas??

Hi Justin, Putting in the flash drive before powering on results in repeating splash screens. I've tried hitting the Win key on the tablet (there's no access at all to the bluetooth keyboard) after pushing the power button, but it loops on the splash screen. I've tried holding the Win key and power buttons until the splash screen appears, and that gets me to the BIOS. Once there, even if I plug in the flash drive, it doesn't read the USB HDD type/model name. Moving the USB HDD to the first position works, but on reboot, I still get a "no bootable device" error (without the flash drive), or the splash screen loop (with the flash drive inserted). The BIOS shows HDD 000 as present, and with a serial number, etc., but it is not recognized as bootable. Thanks for hanging in there with me.eric

    hi Moh27,
Thanks for Using Lenovo community Forums!
Inside BIOS under boot tab you will find there UEFI Boot you will need to disable that
then u need to move the USB HDD: GENERIC USB HDD to number 1.
You can do that by highlighting the USB HDD: GENERIC USB HDD and pressing F5 or F6 to move it up
    -or-
Highlight the things on top of the USB HDD: GENERIC USB HDD then put them down still using the F5 or F6 to move them down, do it one by one till the USB HDD is on top.
Just make once you got the USB HDD: GENERIC USB HDD to 1 hit F10 to save and exit changes.
    Hope this helps,

  • Start up disc problems and my imac will not boot from the cd.

    Hi All,
I have a start up disc that needs repaired, according to ONYX so then reading the apple support guide it seems I boot from my OSX CD that came with my iMac and use First Aid. However when I insert my OSX CD my imac reads it fine, as it does with any other cd, yet when I re-boot, holding down C, it won't boot. It restarts, but fails then to read the CD and just re-boots again, and again, and again.
    How can I fix this?
    Thanks all, I appreciate it.
    From abour this MAC:
    OSX 10.6.8
    2.93 Ghz Intel Core 2
    8gb 1333 DDR3
    Start up disc Mac HD

    thanks, but disc is spotless.
When I put the disc in while machine is on it is read perfectly, appears immediatly and can be opened with no issues. It is only on re-boot ti then appears not to engage with the system.
I was advised to re-boot holding the "c" button from the MAC forum which I have done. I have also restarted using the restart button on the OSX disc loading screen.

  • Need to boot from external hard drive

    MacBook Pro 3,1... 2.2GHz
My dvd drive is failing and my hard drive needs repair.  I can't boot from my install DVD due to the failing drive, can I copy or clone it to my external firewire hard drive and boot from that.  Or from a mac mini?
If so, how do I do it???  Please help, clients and projects on the line:)
    Thanks!!

    Hi there
You can boot to an external HDD, but it has to have a GUID Partition Map scheme, and formatted as Mac OS Extended Journaled (can be done from within Disk Utility)
    OR
You can use the optical drive of your Mac Mini to perform a Remote Install of OS X (or to boot from the Install Disc) Please see the below articles

  • Optical drive trashed and MB Pro will not boot from USB image

    Hello,
New here but I have searched and tried all I know to get this MBP working right again. My disk drive is trashed and has been for some time now, this is why I have a bootable version of Snow Leopard on an 8G flash drive. When my MBP began acting funny recently and I went to disk utility to verify permissions and the disk. Both failed = must boot from disk to repair, thus my issue. For some reason by MBP will not boot from the usb image I have used previously??? Pressing C or Option during startup does not work. If I press Option, I only get the harddrive option, C yields nothing and the computer boots normally.
Please!! let me know how / what you would do to resolve this. I don't understand why I have previously been able to boot from this same file on the same drive previously to repair my disk / permissions but cannot do so now. FWIW, I tried placing the file (OSX) on my external HDD to boot from, this did not work either (USB HDD).
Thank you in advance for your input!!

It isn't clear what you mean about your HD being trashed or which disk (HD or USB drive) you are trying to repair, but either way you need to start up from your Snow Leopard installer DVD & instead of installing anything go to the Utilities menu & run Disk Utility from there to repair either or both of the disks.
