Satellite C870-11G - AC power adapter compatibility question

I have a C870-11G.
It uses power adapter part no PA3917U-1ACA which recently became damaged when someone tripped on the cable and it bent the end which connects to the laptop.
I used to have a Toshiba C660D-10W a few years ago and still have the power adapter for that laptop, part no PA3714E-1AC3,
Does anyone know if this is compatible with my C870?
It seems to fit but I didn't want to try it incase it damages the battery or something.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

On the first pic you can see the values:
*19V* (Volt) *3.42A* (Ampere)
On the second pic you can find the same values.
So both AC adaptors provide the same volt and ampere values and should be compatible.

  • Satellite C870-11G - "SM BUS controller driver missing" for Win 7 64bit

    Good afternoon,
After extensive searching of the forums I have been unable to find a solution so far.
A few of months ago, following the demise of her previous Satellite, my lady friend acquired a Satellite C870-11G running Windows 7 (64 bit).
She acquire the machine online from PC World and after doing the windows updates set it up using the Zonealarm free firewall & AVG 2013 free antivirus. We installed the bundled Microsoft Office 365 and drivers for her HP F4180 Deskjet.
Initially everything ran fine but about a month ago the machine would not recognise the printer.
After doing the troubleshooting thing, the machine reported an "SM BUS Controller Driver" as being missing.
After a lot of net research etc, plus faffing around with the System Restore" function, I still couldn't fix it and so went for the 'nuclear option' i.e. I backed all her data up and did a full Factory Reset from the restore partition.
We've gradually been putting it back together, reloading her data, re-installing ZoneAlarm & AVG, Picassa & Office 365. Yesterday I went to re-install the printer drivers but before doing so checked the Device Manager only to find that the error "SM BUS controller driver is missing" had returned. Grrrrr...
I've been trying to use the system restore to go back restore point by restore point but that too now fails to complete every time with the error (0x80070005).
Before I go Nuclear again, has anyone any ideas please...?
    Regards & thanks in advance.
    Larry

Try please to reinstall chipset driver. I found it for your machine and you can download it from here .
Test it please and post some feedback.

  • Power Adapter Compatibility

I own a 60gb 4th generation iPod photo that came with a usb power brick in the box. The hard drive died on it last week and I recently ordered a 2nd gen iPod nano as a temporary replacement until new hard drive based iPods come out.
It looks like the newer iPods no longer come with power adapters in the box and that they are now sold separately for $30 (lame - if you ask me that should come in the box).
Judging from the pictures of the new power adapters on the apple online store (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=D8E 8F6B&nplm=MA592LL%2FA) , it is not quite the same as the one that came with my 4g iPod although I would assume both would be using the same USB cable. They are different in that the new one looks smaller and the USB port is horizontal not vertical. Mine looks more like the following picture although I have no idea if it's exactly the same: http://ipod.cancomuk.com/images/codes/5/5/9/1/3/rect/55913.jpg
At any rate, can I use my 4g iPod photo usb power adapter with my 2g nano? I don't want to fry my brand new nano by using an incorrect power adapter.
    Thanks.

Since I doubt either of us really truly know how the price of an iPod breaks down this is kind of a pointless argument but I highly doubt Apple is charging us less because the adapter is not in the box.
Selling the power adapter separately just gives them another chance to make a profit on an accessory while increasing the margin on the main product.
While we'll never know the real numbers, with most things like cables and power adapters they can probably make the thing for well under $5 but can mark it up to $30 when sold separately.
While it's probably not all evil... you're probably right that most users either already have a power adapter or don't use it so from Apple's perspective you could make an argument that it makes perfect sense to leave it out because it is probably not needed.
But I still think this is just another revenue stream (higher margins on both iPods + new high margin accessory) for them and not to be confused with some noble effort to save the consumers some cash.

  • Power adapter - a questionable design...

Is anyone else having the same problem as I do? I am down in Asia where the power plugs stick out a bit from the wall - about 1 cm... This is enough for the power adapter to fall out from most of em and it's driving me crazy... Just about 2 minutes ago the adapter fell out of the plug and almost knocked me on my head...

Use the 6' AC cord that you received with your computer and adapter, instead of the little "duck head" attachment.

  • Lightning-to-30pin adapter compatibility questions

I'm thinking of upgrading my iPhone 4S to a 5 or 5S.  I own two docks and would like to keep them.  The product description for the adapter states:
Supports analogue audio output, USB audio, as well as syncing and charging.
One of the docks takes the line-out audio and amplifies it; the other receives the digital audio and processes it in its own DAC.  Can someone confirm for me that these two functions would be covered by the adapter?
    Cheers.

@Peter Gillespie: I know you're not going to want to accept this, but your reply was pretty condescending.  Why am I telling you this?  Because such attitudes are rife amongst users on forums, including this one, and encountering them is unpleasant.  I may only be a level 3 but it's mostly as a result of having better things to do.  Here's what you got wrong:
The adapter purely continues the function that already exists  instead of sitting a device on the 30 pin that is part of the dock
the adapter allows a device with a lightning socket to sit there instead and still work as if a 30 pin device is in situ
Not true.  Apple themselves admit this in the product description, which continues after the section I quoted to indicate that video output is not supported.  I merely omitted that portion as it wasn't relevant.
You are attempting to make a simple item complex ,unneccessary
Actually, Apple have made the situation complex.  Did you know that the adapter contains a DAC?  That's why it's so expensive.  It exists because without it certain audio functions, such as the Analogue Audio Output I mention, wouldn't be available.
So, Lightning to 30-pin connector adapters are both complex and functionally incomplete.  I hope you can admit that you were wrong on both of your main assertions.  I'm not sure why you spoke about third-party connectors, so I'll ignore the content of that aspect of your post.
@Phil0124: None of my above reproach applies to you.  Thank you for being civil and informative.  I wasn't referring to the headphone socket, but the line-out that is available through the 30-pin connector and which supplies the audio to connected docks.  I was able to confirm officially that the audio line-out portion will function through the adapter, and later also ascertained that the digital output should also be fine (though this was based on anecdotal evidence concerning a 5S, but the similarities between that and the 5 seem sufficient for me).
Best of the season to you both!

  • Satellite M50-159: What is the part number of the origanal AC power adapter

My power adapter has broken and up until now i have been using a universal adapter but the connection is loose and takes a while for the orange light to turn on.
My question is what is the part number of the original AC adapter that came with this laptop. I have just ordered what i thought was the correct power adapter part number was PA3468E-1AC3 but the connecter did not fit into my laptop even though the toshiba website said this power adapter was compatible.
    Please help

    Hi dear friend,
you had the wrong partnumber. What you need is PA3283U2ACA (K000028790) which is the right one. Heres a link where you can check the connector of the AC-adapter:

  • Question about MagSafe Power Adapter

I just got a new magsafe power adapter and wanted to know if leaving it connected to the electricity for too long damage it?
Last question, my battery is dead, should I take it off andrun on the adapter, or just leave the battery on?
A friend of mine told me tht "dead batteries" ruin power adapter?
    Thanks all

I'm afraid you should buy a new battery, Frank.
Running on the power adaptor alone will slow down your MBP. - see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2332
Running with a seriously defective battery installed, though, may not only place a heavy load on your adaptor but may result in the battery deforming (causing other damage) or worse.
Leaving your adaptor plugged into the power when not being used probably won't hurt it, but it will use more electricity than a fluoro lightbulb.

  • Power adapter questions

    Hi,
I have a "late 2004" 12" G4 ibook and a FW800 15" G4 Powerbook and one single power adapter left (one has stopped working). This is a A1021 65W power adapter. The first question is:
    - can I use this power adapter for both laptop?
I have tried to purchase a second A1021 65W power adapter on ebay. So far I have purchased 2, These are , or they appear to be, genuine Apple A1021, 65W; but the problem is that the connectors, the one with the LED ring, will not fit in either of my laptops. This is the case for both power adapters, bought from different people. I am confused, because the adapter looks a genuine apple A1021, but the connector of mine fits perfectly in both laptop, while the connectors of these 2 don't. I have tried to spot the difference but the 2 connectors really look the same.
Has anyone any knowledge or experience with this type of problems?

    Hi Bendetto,
You can use the 65W power adaptor with both the iBook and the Powerbook.
As long as the adaptor is white, it should fit into the Powerbook or the iBooks you specify. You may find the outer shield of the power adaptor is slightly deformed. Try to make it fit, using gentle force while rotating it. Once you make it fit, it will be fine for the future.

  • Toshiba Satellite L305 freezes/crashes with power adapter

    Hello everyone
My Toshiba Satellite L305 freezes/crashes when I plug AC power adapter . The laptop works fine on battery .
Initially I thought it was because the OS was getting corrupt and because I misplaced the Windows vista installation disc . I decided to install Ubuntu 11.04/linux but this hasn't solved the problem.
Then I thought maybe it was the power adapter so I bought a new power adapter and that hasn't helped as well . Finally I did some research and found some instances where this issue was seen due to the Dual Core / 2nd processor so I disabled multi-processing core to cancel the 2nd processor and annoyingly this hasn't solved the problem .
So can anyone please give me some guidance on what the problem could be ? . Thanks for taking the time to read/advice
    Keethan

I'd recommend replacing that adapter immediately.

  • Question about compatible Satellite C870-15Z internal display

    Hi,
Last month, my laptop screen broke for no clear reason.
Since I know that this isn't covered by the warranty and constitutes fall damage, I've been searching for a replacement screen.
Now the problem I've run across is that I don't seem to find replacement screens for my laptop model itself (C870-15Z), but I do find screens for e.g. a C870-11H.
Is this screen compatible with my laptop or do I need to search for one that is specifically made for my C870-15Z?
    Regards,
    Vic

Both notebooks Satellite C870-15Z PSC8EE and Satellite C870-11H PSC8AE were equipped with the same kind of display: 17.3" (HD+) 1600 x 900 backlight LED
Therefore I think you can take the display for Satellite c870-11H too.

  • Question about the Power adapter

I just got my Macbook and I love it but I'm a bit confused as to the function of the power adapter. I plugged it in and it started to charge my battery. Is this supposed to happen? I thought the function of the adapter was to provide continuous power from an outlet supply. Maybe I'm under the impression that the second cord I received with my macbook is a power supply cord. Is it?

Also You can run the computer without your battery in but I believe it's not good for the computer.
This link explains the point you were making. MacBook reduces processor speed when battery is removed while operating from an A/C adaptor
