Satellite C870-1H2 and virtualisation support

Hello,
I am (was about to) buy a Toshiba Satellite C870-1H2 (from amazon.co.uk).
The specs look ideal for me, but at the last moment I thought to check whether the VT-x extensions are supported.
I know that the CPU supports the extensions (as detailed here: [http://ark.intel.com/products/71465/]), but I also know that the extensions are often not enabled (or there is no BIOS option to enable them).
The phrase 'Virtualisation Technology' (which is present on some other specification pages) is clearly missing from the laptop specs here: [http://www.toshiba.co.uk/discontinued-products/satellite-c870-1h2/].
I've seen comments that suggest the Satellite *Pro* series usually provides virtualisation support, but it still seems to be missing from the specifications of many current Pro models.
I'm not sure why the C870 would not support VT-x when we know its hardware does, but the specs suggest that is the case. On other hand, I haven't found any references to people complaining about the absence of VT-x support.
So my question is, does the Satellite C870-1H2 actually support VT-x, or not?
(and if not, since it requires just a tiny piece of BIOS code, why not?)
Thanks

Thanks for your reply, however:
I know that +VT support depends always on the CPU built in the notebook+.
It doesn't (historically at least) depend +only+ on that.
I'm seeking clarification because there are (or there have been in the past) computers where the CPU supports virtualisation, but the computer itself does not - because virtualisation may need to be enabled by the BIOS, but the BIOS neither enables it by default, nor provides a configuration option to do so.
I certainly seen references to this problem regarding Toshiba laptops (and others).
So what I hope you're saying is that any current Toshiba laptop with a suitable CPU *will have whatever other support is necessary to support virtualisation*. Is that correct?

  • Satellite A20-S103 and SDHC support

    Hello,
Are there any chances to make my old A20-S103 support SDHC cards?
I googled and checked Toshiba support page for the latest drivers but it doesn't seem to work.
I know I can buy an external USB reader, but I'd like to use the built-in reader if possible.
I hope it's just a matter of new driver, not the hardware itself.
I'd appreciate any help regarding this.
    Thx

I am 100% sure something like this is not possible. It is old notebook model and it is not supported anymore.
You can try to install driver designed for some newer notebook model but I dont believe it will work.

  • How to install Win7 on Satellite C870-190?

Hi, I hope I post in the right forum category so...
My laptop is Toshiba Satellite C870-190 and it doesnt want to boot my windows 7 CD.
I tried first with DEL button which open the boot system when I start the notebook and then chose the CD-ROM device and don't want to load the CD and then I chose from F2 the first device on boot section to be the CD-ROM, still don't want to load it..... the final solution I tried to install it from the Windows 8 (current OS) from my computer -> cd-rom -> setup.exe, then click on INSTALL.
My laptop doesnt let me to install it even from Windows.... on the screen say copying files..... and then it give me an error which say the operation failed.... what's going on with this laptop?
How can I format my HDD and then install windows 7?
    Thanks

At the start I must say that I hope you have created recovery media (DVD or USB) before you have started to install Win7.
Back to your Win7 installation. Long time ago Ive installed Win7 on friends U940 and the first step was changing secure boot mode in BIOS settings - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2C03F80002R01.htm
After doing this Win7 installation has started properly but in my case SATA driver load was necessary.
Please check this at first and send some feedback.

  • Re: Weird noise coming through USB using Audio Mixer on Satellite C870-1EX

    Hello!
So, my sister has Satellite C870-1EX and she's using new Audio Mixer with intergrated sound card that sends sound through USB cable to the computer (computer recognizes it as external sound card/device). This is the device: http://alesis.com/multimix8usbfx .
Few weeks ago she started noticing a very weird noise, sort of high-pitched hissing noise, like very fast electronic beeping. Something similar to what good old internet modems did when they were connecting to the phone line, just not that loud and a bit faster.
Firstly, obviously, we tested every single setting on the Audio Mixer.
Then, we got new USB cable and swapped it.
After that we also took down the whole equipment, checked all cables, untangle them if needed, swapped power source, checked different recording software, even tried some other USB recording devices etc etc.
None of that helped. Drivers are all there as well.
Here's the catch. I used the same equipment with same settings on my computer and ... no hissing noise at all. The thing is, any setting we tried, that hissing noise stays the same, nothing changes.
Even if you pre-apply some sound FX that should either boost or reduce any kind of noise in the signal that is sent to the USB port of the computer, that hissing noise stays the same.
What worries me is that something is wrong with the hardware of my sister's laptop.
The noise does not appear if we use, for example, microphone that uses 3,5mm jack or laptop's built-in mic while recording stuff in the same recording session with same software and similar settings (considering some must be different due to different input).
However, the noise appears if we use any external USB recording device on any of her ports.
Windows on her laptop were reinstalled some time ago (now she's on Windows 7), but the problem appeared few weeks later.
As I said before, drivers are all there and up-to-date as well.
So, I'm hoping one of you will come up with a (simple) software sollution ... and hopefully we won't need to take her computer back to the shop.
However, as far as it seems now, the latest is more likely to happen.
Please, tell me I'm wrong :)
    Thanks!

    Hi
A friend of mine has had an similar issue using an DJ Controller : Traktor Kontrol S4
It was not a noise but he noticed some stutter and audio drop-outs.
The problem was the background processes which were running while using the controller.
In order to solve this it was needed to disable all possible devices in device manager like WLan, LAN, Bluetooth, etc
Additionally he had to disable the Antivirus software and firewall which was running in the background.
I dont know if it helps you but I think its worth a try
One further idea: try to reduce the CPU performance. This can be done in Win 7 power management.
How to handle the power managment features of Windows 7
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD12017W0001R01.htm
The option Processor power management contain the option called Maximum processor state
Here you can set it to 90%-80%

That doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region. If it's a European model, you could check the Toshiba Europe forums.

  • Updating Display drivers on Satellite C870-1GD

    Hey.
I recently bought a new notebook of toshiba.
I've noticed that the AMD drivers arent supported directly and i needed to download them from here.
They dont seem to do the trick and i've always found these support sites quite confusing.
So my laptop is the Toshiba satellite C870-1GD ( pscbce-03c004bt )
    ( [Link 1|http://www.toshiba.be/nl/laptops/satellite/c870/satellite-c870-1gd/] : Dutch )
The belgian driver site for my laptop give these 2 drivers
    intel : [Link|http://www.toshiba.be/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?LNG=10&service=BE&selC ategory=2&selFamily=2&selSeries=312&selProduct=747 3&selShortMod=3766&language=12&selOS=40&selType=11 &yearupload=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null& mode=allMachines&search=&action=search&macId=&coun try=3&selectedLanguage=12&type=11&page=1&ID=88053& OSID=40&driverLanguage=42]

I've downloaded them both and figured the intel should be onboard. However, it doesnt change a thing.
So far i tested league of legends; which runs smoothly ( no driver updated needed )
But it wont even run minecraft cause of no accelerated openGL. Which in my opinion is very weird
    Any suggestions?

In your case situation is pretty clear. Your notebook model has AMD Radeo HD 7610M GPU inside and last supported driver is always offered on Toshiba download page. If you have this latest version thats it.
Anyway, in the past several people have reported about troubles with Minecraft. Put Minecraft as search term in this forum and you will find several interesting threads. One of them you can read on http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=282293

  • Question about compatible Satellite C870-15Z internal display

    Hi,
Last month, my laptop screen broke for no clear reason.
Since I know that this isn't covered by the warranty and constitutes fall damage, I've been searching for a replacement screen.
Now the problem I've run across is that I don't seem to find replacement screens for my laptop model itself (C870-15Z), but I do find screens for e.g. a C870-11H.
Is this screen compatible with my laptop or do I need to search for one that is specifically made for my C870-15Z?
    Regards,
    Vic

Both notebooks Satellite C870-15Z PSC8EE and Satellite C870-11H PSC8AE were equipped with the same kind of display: 17.3" (HD+) 1600 x 900 backlight LED
Therefore I think you can take the display for Satellite c870-11H too.

  • Satellite A660: Remark and a question about illumination/mute button

    Remark:
Hi, I am a proud owner of a satellite A660-166 (3 days old) and I installed everything from scratch on the win 7 pro since I received my laptop with a home version (need pro for work)...I encountered some problems but this forum really answered all my questions :) Never found such a helpful forum for technical support. So I wanted to express my gratitude and my support for everything you do for the users :)
Problem: Well, it's not really a problem, more of a curiosity... I had some problems with the eco button at that point illumination/mute button was for mute....Thanks to you guys I found out what needed to be done, I reinstalled Flash card software and everything was working properly plus the illumination/mute button was for illumination now. I don't have anything against that, I prefer it that way, but I'm wondering how do I change that...I found some unanswered thread about using toshiba assistant and the illumination tab...Since my laptop is pretty new, I don't have an illumination tab, I was wondering how do I change the button to mute if I want to?
Thanks, keep up the good work!

It is nice to hear you found answers to your questions here. Many people here try to help.
Back to your issue: It is not easy to offer precise answer and I really dont know if you can change settings for one single button. I think it has something to do with registry entries but how to change it is another question.
If you use this button for illumination ON/OFF you can use FN+ESC for MUTE option so you will have both options that can be used using one single button or quick key combination.
Can you please test it and confirm it works properly?

  • Satellite C870-11G - "SM BUS controller driver missing" for Win 7 64bit

    Good afternoon,
After extensive searching of the forums I have been unable to find a solution so far.
A few of months ago, following the demise of her previous Satellite, my lady friend acquired a Satellite C870-11G running Windows 7 (64 bit).
She acquire the machine online from PC World and after doing the windows updates set it up using the Zonealarm free firewall & AVG 2013 free antivirus. We installed the bundled Microsoft Office 365 and drivers for her HP F4180 Deskjet.
Initially everything ran fine but about a month ago the machine would not recognise the printer.
After doing the troubleshooting thing, the machine reported an "SM BUS Controller Driver" as being missing.
After a lot of net research etc, plus faffing around with the System Restore" function, I still couldn't fix it and so went for the 'nuclear option' i.e. I backed all her data up and did a full Factory Reset from the restore partition.
We've gradually been putting it back together, reloading her data, re-installing ZoneAlarm & AVG, Picassa & Office 365. Yesterday I went to re-install the printer drivers but before doing so checked the Device Manager only to find that the error "SM BUS controller driver is missing" had returned. Grrrrr...
I've been trying to use the system restore to go back restore point by restore point but that too now fails to complete every time with the error (0x80070005).
Before I go Nuclear again, has anyone any ideas please...?
    Regards & thanks in advance.
    Larry

Try please to reinstall chipset driver. I found it for your machine and you can download it from here .
Test it please and post some feedback.

  • How to enable hardware virtualisation support?

Today I upgraded to mac os x lion and when I open parallels desktop it asks me to enable hardware virtualisation support on my MacBook pro so that I can run windows xp as a virtual machine. I have searched the net and cannot find a way to access the bios to enable this feature, please could I have some support and advise on how to enable the VT. I did have any problems whilst I was on os x snow leopard and parallels used to work fine.
    Thanks in advance.

Boot camp  is the way to go then you will be able to turn it on. Run boot camp install windows xp and you be able to get into the bios
Here's some other help full info as well
VMware Fusion 3.1.3 was designed for OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) but is compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion), with the reservations listed below. If you are running an older versions of VMware Fusion, upgrade to VMware Fusion 3.1.3 before upgrading to Lion. Fusion 2.x is incompatible with Lion.  For the best experience, reinstall Fusion after upgrading to Lion.  When running Fusion on Lion, these limitations are known to exist:
The Migration Assistant, included with VMware Fusion, is not compatible with Mac OS X Lion. This is due to a change in file sharing components.
VMware recommends that a Snow Leopard-based Mac be used to migrate an existing PC. The resulting virtual machine can then be used in Fusion running on Lion.
Boot Camp partitions are not accessible through Fusion after upgrading to Lion.
To work around this issue, delete the Boot Camp virtual machine from the library and recreate it.  For more information, see A Boot Camp virtual machine fails to power on with a disk error (1003483).
Minor visual issues have been reported when using Mission Control with Unity mode.
Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) Client and Server cannot be run as guests, at this time.
VMware can provide best effort support if you choose to upgrade to Lion, but we cannot guarantee a resolution for all issues.

  • Re: Satellite C870 - Questions regarding preinstalled Toshiba software

    Hi..
im a new SATELLITE C870-1JV user
Or saw a review on a US website saying that all the preinstalled Toshiba software slows down the OS .
The site recommended a clean windows install to remove it all..
Anyone done this or recommend it?
Anyone like the installed software and recommend keeping it?
    Thanks!!

    > Anyone done this or recommend it?
Do you still want to use the advanced notebook features like function buttons?
If yes, dont remove the Toshiba function key software which controls the keys.
Do you still want to be notified about driver updates via Toshiba Tempro or Toshiba Service Station?
    Then dont remove such software
But as far as I know there is also another, additional software installed on the notebook.
For example: TOSHIBA Places, TOSHIBA Eco Utility, TOSHIBA PC Health Monitor, etc
All these tools provide some additional features, its your decision if you want to use it or not.

  • Re: Satellite L550-129 doens't support Toshiba external HDD

Toshiba Satellite L550-129 doens't support Toshiba external hdd store.e canvio.
Al other thosiba laptops in the familie work with the store.e canvio and a lot of older coputers?????

If your external HDD is not recognized, then this can be caused by low power supply from USB port or its simply an software issue.
The Toshiba page http://www.toshiba-multimedia.com/chd/store-externe-festplatten/canvio/ says that STOR.E CANVIO needs 900mA
The usual USB 2.0 standard provides 500mA
So you need an USB Y cable to connect such HDD to two USB 2.0 ports

  • Possible to replace the CPU on Satellite A200-1H2?

Can i replace my cpu (Toshiba Satellite A200-1H2) with another one? Cause i know some laptops can do that.

    Hi mate,
first of all, if you want to loose your warranty then replace it. And I could give you 10 more arguments why not do it because if youre not familiar with disassembling notebooks and without information about the machines hardware you cannot exchange it.
So, generally its NOT possible, maybe with another brands but I think the manufacturers of another brands do the same like toshiba and will revocate the warranty of the machine if you open your machine and attempt to modify the "hardwired" hardware inside of your notebook.

Can we find or upload it somewhere?
I do not have a folder on my sheets containing the software.

Such 3rd party software is bundled and preinstalled on the Toshiba notebooks.
But since this is a 3rd party software, it cannot be downloaded from Toshiba driver page.
You can use it only in connection with Toshiba preinstalled system.
So in case you want to use this software you have to recover the notebook with the Toshiba recovery disk or HDD recovery.
In case you want to use fresh preinstalled system, you have to purchase such software separately.
