Satellite L10-102 RAM upgrade not working

Hi,
I bought 512MB PC3200 RAM to my L10. After installing the module the computer failed to boot up. I tried all possible combinations (like changing the slots, installing only the new modules) but the computer only boots up with its original memory module. I would appreciate any help on the issue.

  • RAM upgrades not working

    Hi all,
I've been wanting to upgrade the two 512 M DIMMS that came with my PowerBook to a pair of 1 G DIMMS.
I purchased a pair of DIMMs from a retailer I found in MacWorld (A1A Computing) and when I tried calling them after my computer kept crashing, it took way too long for them to refer to it as "Customer Service". Ultimately, after contact and returning the pair, they sent a new pair but the wrong type.
After several more interminable attempts to reach them, I finally did and they were reluctant (to put it nicely) to help. I told them I wanted a refund and had to go through VISA to get it. This is not an honorable dealer.
Next, I went to OWC (nice folks) and the first pair they sent didn't work either - crashes, freezes, etc.
In each case, when I restored the original DIMMs all was fine.
I zapped the PRAM, NVRAM, ran the Hardware test (which came back fine) and then ran Rember, which found problems (same as it did with the ones from A1A).
I got a new pair from OWC and immediately ran Rember, which found problems.
I tried removing one of the DIMMs (left one in the bottom slot), reran Rember and it said fine.
Same when I swapped out for the other DIMM.
Then I tried putting the DIMMs, one at a time, into the top slot. Each time, Rember found errors.
I've heard of a bottom slot issue with the 1.25 G PowerBook but never anything about the top slot.
In every case, my system recognized the full 2 G RAM but there are crashes and freezes until I restore the original DIMMs.
Both the originals and the ones from OWC are made by Hynix.
I've saved Rember logs for the new DIMMs in all the tests I described above.
Before returning them to OWC (and resigning myself to having only the original 1 G RAM in my machine), does anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone seen the top slot issue I've described?
(Funny that there is no problem at all with the original RAM.)
Thanks in advance for any light anyone can shed on this one.
    Best regards,
    Barry

While just about all Powerbooks are sensitive to the quality of RAM used, the earlier Powerbooks seem to be a little more sensitive than others. While some RAM may meet the printed specs, it may not work with Apple's architecture. The issue is memory bus slewing, where power to the memory bus is modulated to reduce heat and conserve battery power.
When it comes to memory for a finicky Powerbook, I'd recommend Crucial, as they guarantee their memory will work when selected from their memory selector at http://www.crucial.com . You can usually also find a 5% to 10% off coupon on the internet (search for 'crucial coupon'). I've used Crucial (also makes Micron memory) for years with no issues.
Samsung and Kingston (not the Kingston valueram line, though) also typically work well. I've also used these brands in later Powerbooks with no issues.
Hynix memory usually works pretty well in Powerbooks, however, I'm sure they produce a number of different RAMs, like the other memory producers. For example, Kingstons regular memory works well in our Powerbooks, however, their valueram line doesn't work reliably.

  • 16 GB ram upgrade not working

I have an iMac 3.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (late 2009 model)  I purchased 4 x 4GB 1333 ram chips to upgrade to 16GB.  All four chips simultaneously do not work.  The screen stays black and it beeps endlessly with a pause every 6 seconds.  However, if I put any two of the four chips in (= 8GB) the computer boots fine.  If I use any two of the four plus the two 2GB original chips (=12GB)  computer boots fine.  I have tried every combination with the help of the “support line” of the company I bought them from.
The original chip speed was 1067 and the new are 1333.  I was told the computer could run both and it does, up to 8GB not including the original ram. When I use the orginal ram to bring it up to 12GB it drops the speed to 1067 from the 1333.
    Would appreciate your help!!!
    Thanks, Tim

There have been many discussions on this subject; you might want to read these (lengthy!!):
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2567907
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2588800
The short version is: If going with OEM RAM, 16 GB appears fine. When going with third party RAM and 16 GB - problems; however, third party RAM and a total of 12 GB work. That's what I got on mine.
However, you added another wrinkle to the whole thing: I would always stay with the exact specs that Apple publishes for a particular model; I wouldn't care what I'm told by someone else. And, yes, it'll drop the speed - that's because it wasn't made to address the extra speed.
May I ask what brand and where you bought yours? Hopefully it was somewhere with a good warranty/return policy. I would contac them and explain the issues and send back all of it for a refund; then purchase 2 x 4 GB with the right specs from someone like OWC (macsales.com).

  • 3GB RAM upgrade not working

    Hi,
I have a 20" iMac that has 1.5GB (1x1GB 1x512MB, mixed brands) that I need to upgrade to the 3GB max. I bought a 2GB PC2 5300 SODIMM from NewEgg to use with the 1GB one I had already, but it won't work. I've tried switching them around etc with no luck. The 2GB and the 1GB work fine by themselves, but whenever I combine the 2GB with anything, I just get a black screen, no startup tone and a solid white light. I can still return the newegg DIMM so if I have to I will.
    Thanks

Apple recommends that the larger of the two RAM modules be placed in the slot closest to the display.
Intel-based Mac Power On Self Test RAM error codes
If the computer detects no SDRAM (Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory, also referred to as RAM) or the RAM installed does not meet the appropriate specifications, the screen will remain black but the power LED on the front of the computer will blink once per second to signal the error. This error condition may be due to physically damaged RAM, installing the incorrect type of RAM, or not having RAM installed.

  • 07' Mac Mini 4GB Ram Upgrade Not Working.

I have a 2007 Mac Mini (Intel Core 2 Duo) which runs slow with 1GB ram. I purchased two 2GB sticks of ram and replaced the two stock ram sticks previously making 1GB ram - But my Mac Mini will not boot with 4GB ram in it. I tried taking one stick out, leaving one 2GB stick in with no luck, and so I have no other ideas. I was told that this would be no problem, and I installed it all correctly following every procedure necessary.
    Can anyone help me?

Komputerbay ram is sketchy at best, and another user here:http://forums.macrumors.com had the same experience you are having with that memory, the Mac will not even boot.
The memory for Macs has to be very precise, 5300/5400 is not acceptable as a rule.  It must be straight 5300.  If you can, return the memory modules and buy some guaranteed to work with your Mac.  Go to OWC, http://www.macsales.com or Crucial, http://www.crucial.com who guarantee their memory to work or your money back.

  • RAM Upgrade not "working"

I am hopeful someone can help me out with this.. I have an imac G4 1.25 w/256 RAM loaded in the factory slot. The User Accessible slot was empty, by reading these boards I determined that for an upgrade (to load Leopard) I needed a 512mb 200 pin SO-DIMM DDR memory card. I purchased this card, followed the installation instructions (from an Apple site) and buttoned it back up. It still shows up as 256 under the hardware overview and says the other slot is empty (which it clearly is not). I have checked the fit, tightness, etc. and rebooted 3 times with the same results. This is really frustrating since it is so simple.. do memory cards "really" go bad or have I just done something wrong?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Either;
    The module isn't inserted properly.
The module is the wrong type.
    The module is defective.
    The slot is defective.
Try re-seating the module in the first instance.

  • Ram upgrade not working on Intel S12

I attempted to upgrade the ram on my new Intel S12. I purchased a 2 GB Crucial 2GB DDR2 667 from Newegg and upon installing, the S12 will not boot. After powering on, there is not any display. All returns to normal after removing the memory. Does any one have any ideas or other experience upgrading memory on an Intel S12?
    Thanks
    Jim
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Mellamogo,
My understanding is that there is 1 GB RAM soldered directly onto the mainboard.  The empty RAM slot is solely for upgrade purposes.  As previously mentioned, I believe the Intel Atom systems cannot be upgraded beyond 2 GB total (meaning only a 1 GB module can be used in that slot), whereas the VIA Nano S12s are now upgradable to a total of 3 GB, thanks to a recent BIOS update.
I received my S12 with the VIA Nano CPU today... I already updated the BIOS and plan to purchase a 2 GB RAM module in the near future.

  • 2x4 GB RAM Upgrade Not Working

What is the spec of the new RAM?
What brand is the new RAM?
    you need:

  • Satellite L300 (PSLB8C-0H901X) does not work

My laptop Toshiba Satellite L300 PSLB8C-0H901X, does not work, no power, no POST, nothing, Get power and charge lamp when pluged in nothing else, any known issues? Any fixes, Thanks in advance for your help.

Hmm sounds like a serious hardware issue.
If you are a lucky man the issue could be related to RAM module.
The RAM modules can be replaced easily. The memory bay is placed at the bottom of the unit secured by one screw.
But the question is if its really related to RAM.
Well, you will know this if you would replace/check this
Otherwise I recommend asking an professional notebook technician for a help

  • MY iphone ram is not working what can i do?

HI i am ahmad my iphone 5s ram is not working  my iphone is suddenly get down from my hands and get power of plz tell me what can i do

    Hey there Ahmad.altaf27,
It sounds like you are unable to turn on your iPhone 5s. I would recommend the troubleshooting from the following article to help you get the issue resolved:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on),  reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,

  • Satellite P100-487 - Upgate to 4GB RAM did not work

    Hi,
    I have a P100-487 with 1GB RAM (2x 512MB) inside.
    Max. Upgateable is 4GB.
I bought 2x 2GB and this will not work.
BIOS does not start with 4GB.
There is no problem with any of the two 2GB pieces. On both banks.
I update the BIOS to the latest version - the same problem.
    Anyone any idea?
    thx
    tgovsx

In the past many people were reported about such or similar issues after RAM upgrade. Problem is RAM compatibility.
You must use 100% compatible modules and two identical modules.
Ive checked Kingston page and I found info that you can use 2Gb memory with part number KTT667D2/2G. Toshiba offers the same memory modules with part number PA3513U-1M2G.
Which modules do you use (manufacturer, part number)?
