Satellite L10-119 doesn't boot up

I have an issue with Satellite L10-119 model. I'm running WinXP SP2 Home. After a HDD failure, I got my notebook cleaned, replaced cooling and replaced a new "old" HDD. I also updated the BIOS (running ver. 3.00) The thing is, it doesn't want to boot up, or it boots randomly. It doesn't matter if I try to boot from HDD, CD or LAN. It's getting better only when I clear CMOS - then it boots up a couple of times. The computer starts, (I can get into BIOS) and next screen is black with blinking cursor at top left, no reaction. No POST codes, no error messages. Can someon please give me a hand? I'm out of my ideas...

Try these steps: To RESOLVE BLACK SCREEN
When the computer is turned on a boot menu appears showing several boot options to select. Regardless of which boot option is selected, the monitor then displays a black or blank screen with only a blinking cursor in the left top corner of the screen.
1.  Remove any CDs, DVDs or memory cards from the computer.
2.  Disconnect all devices from the computer leaving only the original mouse, monitor and keyboard and power cord connected.
3. Restart the computer.
4. Press the F1 key repeatedly during the first startup screen until the entering setup message appears. (Press the F10 key to open the BIOS Setup Utility if computer was manufactured in 2009 or later.)
5. The BIOS Setup Utility screen opens.
6. Press the F5 key to restore the default settings. Use the arrow keys to select YES and press ENTER .
7. Press the F10 key to save the changes and exit. Use the arrow keys to select YES and press ENTER . The PC restarts.
8. When the system restarts select Last Known Good Configuration from the boot menu.
The PC should now startup normally. If the blank screen persists continue with the following steps.
9. Select Safe Mode from the Windows Advanced Options Menu .
10. Use Microsoft's System Restore feature to restore your computer to an earlier time to correct the issue.

  • Satellite Pro 6000 doesn't boot anymore

    Hi all,
I have a Satellite Pro 6000 that is quite old, but until yesterday it was working fine. Today, it won't start anymore. The indicator LEDs are on (220v:green/power:green/battery:orange) but the BIOS or OS won't start. Fan doesn't work either. The FN key seems to work - if I press it, the indicator below F11 lights up. If I press and hold the power button the power indicator LED goes off.
I've removed the battery to see if that might help, but it basically gives the save (non)result.
Is there any way to do a hard reset? Or is it curtains for this laptop?
Like to hear your thoughts on this one.
    JP

    Hi
Try to disconnect the AC adaptor and remove the battery a leave the notebook for a while. Wait about 20-30 min, connect all parts again and try to boot up.
If it will not work I assume the notebook hardware malfunctions Maybe its a motherboard fault (power supply electronic) or CPU.
Who knows. Without any hardware tests its not easy to find out what device malfunctions

  • Satellite L300-19F doesn't boot up - Windows failed to start

My notebook doesn't start up, "Windows failed to start. To fix the problem: restart with recovery CD".
I may do this, but first I do want to try to save data (and pics) from hard disk.
Is it possible, for example, to go to DOS during start up with recovery CD, and copy data to USB-stick?
By the way, all my data is on E:\ partition. Will this be overwritten when installing from recovery?
    Please advise. Regards.

    > Is it possible, for example, to go to DOS during start up with recovery CD, and copy data to USB-stick?
    No, this is not possible!
If you would boot up using recovery disk then the recover procedure would be started and the whole HDD would be formatted!
You can try to boot using an WinPE
    http://www.livecd.com/
This will allows you to boot up the unit and to get access to the data on the HDD
You could also built own Windows live CD

  • Satellite U300-14Q doesn't boot - warranty question

    Hello!!
I bought my laptop last may in Spain and today I couldnt boot it.
I cant start my computer, so Im really worried about it, because Im going to live in Berlin for 2 months.
Can I send my computer to any service center close to Berlin?? Or other service center in Germany even if I bought it in Spain?
I strongly need my data files that I save in my computer.
If I open the laptop and take from inside my hard disk before send it, do Ill lose the warranty??
    Thank you very much

Well, the Toshiba notebooks are covered by world wide warranty so usually the Toshiba ASP in Germany should be able to help you too.
    > If I open the laptop and take from inside my hard disk before send it, do Ill lose the warranty??
Well, the HDD is placed at the bottom of the unit and the HDD cover can be removed and you will not lose the warranty. I think more details you will get from the ASP.
But you said that your notebook doesnt boot.
    Please check if this will help you to start the notebook;
    - remove the battery and disconnect the AC adaptor
    - wait about 30-40min and then connect both parts to the notebook
    - try to power up the notebook
If this will not help you then its time for the ASP.
    Good luck

  • Satellite P100-240 - Doesn't boot properly

I'm posting on behalf of a friend who has this problem, we only have contact via mobile texts :( I may not be able to immediately provide all the answers you seek to resolve this problem.
    Hi,
    The laptop (P100-240) turned itself off whilst playing a game 2 days ago, since then the following problems have been experianced;
Loading windows in normal mode results in instant Blue Screen (specific info unavilable). Windows in normal mode has not been accessed since this problem began.
Loading windows in safe mode worked for a while, but internet access resulted in Blue Screen aswell, for a while this problem resolved itself, safe mode no longer works to my knowledge.
The visual display appears at all times distorted, a matrix like effect. I don't know wether this effect is passive, or only during windows or startup, details on how it looks or anything very specific.
A blue screen mentioned the file nv4_mini.sys, this is an nvidia driver file for laptops as far as I know. A gfx driver update cured nothing.
The current situation is total lack of access to the desktop, I think it blue screens just after the welcome screen. I don't know what the blue screen says atm, but the disabling of memory options in the bios was recommended by something... I don't know wether the option is even available to the p100-240s bios system, googling this problem came up with mentions of disabling video caching and shadowing options in the bios as the definition of bios memory options, and that these options don't always exist.
However, my diagnosis is that the video card is just fried :( which would be a worse problem than a software or options problem as far as a quick and simple solution is concerned.
Any solutions, advice or questions? I'm struggling to find and give useful advice, and learning the situation in detail is tricky aswell.
So far a registry clean has been done, an anti-virus scan has been done, a system restore has been done, a video card driver update has been done and a bios update has been done. In that order, for what relevance that has.
    Help? :\
I've seen similar problems on the internet, but only once was it a near-identical problem with the same model of laptop.

The Nvidia GeForce Go 7600 is a separate card that attaches to the bottom of the motherboard on the top left side.
The card itself has a fan/heat sink unit attached to it and measures about 3x5 inches. I have become intimately familiar with this card and the P100 in the apst few days.
Laptop worked until one day the screen went blank. Not dark black blank when its off, but rather when the backlight is on but no immage is available. The laptop starts in safe mode and also in the VGA mode. The problem can be seens even before windows starts up. There are vertical lines across the screen, they either distort color on the image (as in the toshiba welcome screen) or plainly black out letters as in the widnows start-up selection screen. Sometimes restarting after VGA mode removes these lines and system starts up normaly. Then once booted the screen goes blank either right away or in 5/10/20 minutes. I have replaced the video card and the system board to no avail.
I think I will try replacing the screen power inverter next, will see if it will help.
    My unut is P100, PSPA3U-04501T
    the screen is 1680x1050
GPU is GEForce Go 7600, 256 mb

  • Satellite P25-607 - Doesn't boot from recovery CD

My situation, I am trying to return my computer P25-607 to "new" condition using the Recovery CD.
My problem is, the BIOS does not seem to recognize the CD drive.
In Bios (version 1.8) it shows boot order of
    1) CD
    2) Removable Media
    3) +HDD
    4) Network Boot
The only one that is expandable and populated with a device is the Hard Drive.
The CD/DVD drive works under windows XP.
I can open the setup program select the option for an as new install, the program then reboots the computer.
I am presuming it is trying to boot to the CD but it does not, I am guessing because the BIOS is not "seeing" a CD Drive.
I have tried putting the files from the CD on to an external USB HDD (which the bios does see) and using that to install but that didnt work.
I tried to update to a newer bios 2.1 in the hope that it may recognize the drive but to install the bios requires an Floppy drive or Bootable CD drive, I have neither.
    So.
Any ideas for a work around?
I have available to me an external Hard Drive enclosure, other laptops WinXP and Win7, one desktop (not sure if it has a floppy drive in it, and I am not at home right now so cant check), I also have partition magic, and the P25 is currently bootable into a very slow laggy virus infested windows XP media center edition.
    Just thinking out loud.
If the desktop had a floppy, would it be possible rig it up as an external floppy using the usb hard drive enclosure?
Or how about pull the CD/DVD drive out and put it in the USB external enclosure.....
I have read this thread: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=53138
But there has to be an easier way, because my comp is bootable into XP and has a functioning CD/DVD drive it is just not bootable.
    Any Ideas would be appreciated.

OK this thread gives me hope, a similar problem with a solution in post number 5, it sounds like he was able to boot from an external cd drive using the recovery CD and then reimage the drive from there by putting the disk into the internal drive.

OK I solved my own problem.
If anyone has this problem in the future try my solution.
You need an external USB floppy drive, a floppy disk and the files contained from this link (RAR file needs expanding)
    [http://www.mediafire.com/file/3ioz2mwwe0g/Toshiba restore boot floppy.rar]
Make floppy bootable, put files on floppy.
Set boot order to CD > Floppy> HD > Network.
Boot from floppy, with restore CD in drive.
IMPORTANT. At each computer reboot, reset boot order as shown above.
The computer will reboot approx 3 times, each time reset boot order to CD FDD HD Netwk
Eventually on approx the 4th time the computer will boot from the CD and start Ghosting the drive using the recovery CD.
At that point remove the FDD.
After ghosting the computer will reboot and boot from the HDD as a clean install.

  • Satellite L10-144 - Can't boot from Hard Disk

    Hello.
Sorry for my english because I'm french. I have a problem with boot on this computer. I have installed windows xp on my hard disk but the computer don't boot on this hard disk. If I want to boot on this hard disk I must push F12 and select hard disk and after windows load.
In the bios the hard disk is in first but this hard disk don't boot automaticly.
    Can you help me please?

    Hi Demilego,
Thats really strange... Normally the computer should boot from HDD automatically.
In your case I would check the BIOS and load the default settings.
    Does it work?

  • Satellite L30 10Y doesn't boot with new RAM modules

    Hi,
just regged with this forum as I am having a memory upgrade problem.
I have read through a few of the memory problems on here and all users say its a comaptible memory issue. I had Hynix 512MB RAM in my laptop and I purchased 2 x 1GB of Hynix memory both of these are matching sticks to the installed memory but when I installed them my laptop wouldnt boot at all. It would only boot if I had one stick in at a time.
I tried switching top and btm ports and even when one stick was installed it says in XP, Vista and Windows 7 (yes I have tried all systems) 896MB available. I even tried using my other Hynix stick but it only booted and showed the highest stick of 1GB (896MB usable in Windows 7). After reading all the threads I'm just wondering if this is a hardware fault or is there a fix in the Toshiba world or perhaps in the Toshiba world the L series is nearly obselete and not worth the bother to help out the people who unwittingly bought thier merchandise.
I apologise for being a bit down on Toshiba but a laptop which states what it can run and doesnt a company should hold its hand up and say yes there is a fault and help deal with the problem.

You are seeing 896MB because the rest is reserved for the Graphics Card VRAM.
Sometimes RAM can simply be not compatible, due to timing incompatibilities or RAM chip/controller design differences.

  • Re: Satellite A200-1AX doesn't boot after BIOS update

    Hello all!
I wanted to install XP on a Satellite A200-1AX.
So I tried to update the Bios to the version that supports XP.
When I tried to install it, Vista crashed and now the laptop won't even turn on.
When I keep the power button pressed, the fan wheezes but nothing else happens.
I think the BIOS is gone or corrupted.
    What do I do?
Thanks in advance for any help!

    > When I keep the power button pressed, the fan wheezes but nothing else happens. I think the BIOS is gone or corrupted. What do I do?
What to say buddy. Looks like something went wrong during the BIOS update procedure Possibly the BIOS was not written correctly and the ROM module must be flashed again using a special procedure and tool.
In such case you can do nothing you have to contact the ASP in your country for a fix!!!
Dont waste a time and ask an authorized service technician for a help.
    Good luck and best regards

  • Satellite P10-504 doesn't boot after RAM upgrade

Just got 2x 1GB sticks of DDR 400 soddim's, and no boot.
Now after reading up on what I could find on similar models, seems that these older laptops may not handle that fast of ram?
Would using some DDR 266 be more appropriate?

    Hi
If the notebook doesnt boot up then there is a big chance that the RAM is either nto compatible or its faulty.
    I think its not compatible.
    I found this page:
    http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=7090&ft=m&st=3
According to this page the P10 supports the *200-Pin PC2700 (333Mhz) DDR SODIMM* memory modules!
So your RAMs are not compatible!

  • Re: Satellite A200-1K7 - Doesn't boot with 4GB RAM

    Hello,
I am trying to upgrade to 4GB of RAM. According to the manual my Satellite A200 1k7 does support up to 4GB of ram.
However, if I place two 2GB modules the computer won't turn on. Either one of the 2GB modules on it's own works fine but the two of them together won't work.
The power light turns on, the harddisk whirs and then goes quiet. Nothing happens, not even a BIOS screen.
My BIOS is up to date. I am using windows Vista 32 bits.
    The memory modules I use are both SO-DIMM DDR2 PC2-5300 667 Mhz.
    Please help!

Im not sure but as far as I know the Satellite A200-1K7 has an Intel 943GML chipset that supports 2GB max.
So you should check which chipset you have. For this you can use PC Wizard 2008 (http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php).
If you have an other chipset I think the modules are not compatible and so you need other modules.

  • Satellite L10 - keyboard doesn't work correctly

    Hello
I have problem with my keyboard. I install Windows XP from recovery CD and make updates form Windows Update. Sometimes when I write something ex 1234567890, I see on the screen 123567890 or 123456790.
I took the laptop to the service and they said everything is OK, but for me it`s not!!
What is wrong with it, can someone tell me ??
    Thanks

Just small update: I have also heard when MSN search bar is installed the CPU activity goes permanently up and down between 2 and 20 % and if you pres the keyboard key in this moment when the CPU activity goes to higher percent it can happen that the key will not be displayed.
As I said it should be fixed with new BIOS.
    Bye and good luck!

  • Satellite L10-104 doesn't start after battery totally empty

    Hi,
after I left the laptop over the weekend without the AC charger the battery was totally empty. So I reconnected it to charge the battery for one day.
Now, when I press the power on button the green LED on the front illuminates for approx 3 seconds - nothing else happens. No HDD sounds, no coooling fan noise, nothing on the screen.
Does anyone have some ideas what I could do to make it run again?
    Thanks,
    Christian

    Hi,
I took out the battery for one day, put everything together and tried to start up - nothing.
Then I took out RAM, HDD and some other module that's accessible from underneath and put the power cord in, tried to start - nothing.
I even disassembled the whole notebook and hooked up only the motherboard with the power line (of course CPU, GPU and cooling fan were still attached) - still nothing. Only the green LED in the front lights up for 3 seconds.
My guess is - its time has finally come. However I never expected that after a complete discharge of the battery.
Thanks for your help. I'd appreciate if you have any other ideas and since the notebook is 5 years old I guess I will not take it to a service technician.

    Hi
The message says that you have to install the system again using recovery media
As far as I know the notebook was preinstalled with the WIN 8 64BIT system.
You can use the HDD recovery option
Power on the unit and press F12.
Then choose HDD recovery option appearing in the boot menu.
Follow the instruction on the screen

  • Satellite A300 - Turns on but doesn't boot

    Hello,
I have a Satellite A300. I have had several probems while booting since 2 months ago: When I want to turn on my laptop, it turns on but the screen keeps black and it doesn't load the "Toshiba Leading Innovation" screen. The "Satellite" light (at the left of the mousepad) is on (it would only switch on a second while booting and then would switch off) and it doesn't turn off.
I have to retry for so many times with all the possibilities: Without battery, only with AC adapter, with both of them but it doesn't boot. I don't know what can I do. I have always to hibernate my laptop bacause I am afraid to can not boot it the day after.
Could you help me? If it cares: I had to buy a new battery (not Toshiba original) because I had to change the original one. No more changes in my laptop.
Thank you very much and sorry for my english writing :S
    Diego

Thank you for your reply PinkPanther,
I think it isn't fault of the battery, because my laptop doesn't load the Bios neither the "Toshiba Leading Innovation" screen not even tryng to switch on only with the original Toshiba AC adapter.
About the external monitor: it's true many times I connect my TV by the HDMI port. But i think it isn't the problem. As I said first, there's a light (is writen "Satellite") at the left of the mousepad that lights when the laptop turns on and when comes this "Toshiba Leading Innovation" screen, suddenly it switchs off. So when I have this problem with my laptop, this light keeps on. I think that if it was problem off the monitor, this light should turn off and load the OS, and then I must hear the sound at the begining of the OS...
As you say, maybe it's a serious probelm... I posted here because I hoped that anyone had the same problem, resolved it and could help me
