Satellite L20-101: Question about memory modules mixing PC2-4300 and PC2-4200

Hello
I have Toshiba Satellite L20-101. It has onboard 512MB RAM (PC2-4300). Today I added another RAM module but this new module is PC2-4200. Is there anything wrong doing this? Both modules are DDR2 and 533MHz and 512MB.

Hi Pawel,
In principle there is no problem with mixing RAM modules of slightly different types but normally the total RAM will only run at the speed of the slower module. If your notebook recognises the correct amount of RAM from both sticks then there will ne no problem.

  • Satellite L20-101: I think 667Mhz module runs only with 266 Mhz

    Hello,
    I have purchased 2x 1024MB DDR2-RAM for my L20-101.
First I tried 533MHz but the notebook didn't work with them, so I bought the
    667 MHz version.
CPU-Z says that the FSB:DRAM-ratio is 1:2 so both are actually running with just 266 MHz.
I've updated the BIOS with the latest version from the Toshiba-homepage, but nothing changed.
    So finally my questions:
    1. Maybe CPU-Z is wrong (I don't think so...), are there any other good programms to check the memory parameters?
    2. If the values shown in the programm are correct: Where can I change the value for the ratio? Is there any possibility to see more than the few settings in BIOS or is it a jumper setting?
    Thanks for your help

    Hi
First of all its important to mention that the Satellite L20-101 supports an FSB of 533 MHz.
    So the DDR2-400/533 256MB (PA3389U-1M25) and DDR2-400/533 512MB (PA3412U-1M51) memory modules should work and are 100% compatible!
If you will use the 667Mhz module, it will run only at 533Mhz because of the limitation of front side bus.
Furthermore I think you have misunderstood something.
These are DD2 modules and therefore the CPU-Z recognizes the modules speed as 266 MHz (2x266 = 532Mhz)
So everything seems to be ok!
PS; You can also use the other tool called Everest home edition. Its a freeware and very useful to run a system and hardware diagnosis
    Greetings

If you have a rescue email address set up on your account then you can try going to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you might see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have a rescue email address set up then go to Express Lane  and select 'iTunes' from the list of 'products' in the middle of the screen.
Then select 'iTunes Store', and on the next screen select 'Account Management'
Next choose 'iTunes Store Account Questions' or 'iTunes Store account security' (it appears to vary by country) and fill in that you'd like your security questions/answers reset.
You should get an email reply within about 24 hours (and check your Spam folder as well as your Inbox)

  • Question about memory upgrade on Satellite A210-127

I upgraded my memory form 2Gb (2x1 Gb) to 4Gb (2x2 Gb) with two Kingston memory modules KVR667D2S5/2G (PC2-5300 CL5).
For two weeks there were no problems but then I got blue screen every time when system boots reffering to I guss memory error.
I tried to replace memory with original Toshiba's modules but blue screen remains. I have conctacted the service and they say that
it may be memory incompatibility, virus or hard disk malfunction.
After few days of working on the solution I reinstal my laptop with Toshiba DVD and replace original memory. Now everything works fine.
I wonder is Kingston memory cause of my problem or somethig else?
Does anyone know is Kingston memory KVR667D2S5/2G 2Gb compatibile with Toshiba?

I've got an answer forom Kingston Customer Service Specialist:
    Dear Mr. Sekovanic,
Thank you for your e-mail and for your interest in Kingston Technology.
Please note that the memory module with the part number KVR667D2S5-2G is a ValueRAM generic part, built to industry guidelines meeting the JEDEC standard. As they are not tested on any motherboard, we cannot guarantee compatibility of these modules with a specific system.
The branded memory module KTT667D2/2G is designed, manufactured and tested in a specific systems or system series, such as the Toshiba Satellite A210-127. Although the technical specifications are quite similar we do not recommend to use the ValueRAM module on a specific system as yours.
We trust that the above information will be of assistance to you. However, should you have further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.
    so it's not compatibille.

  • Question about memory upgrade on Satellite 2140 (PS241C-2PW9XP)

I wanna upgrade my memory up to 1gb and i have a pc3200 533 stick.
I am wondering if it would be ok or do i specifically need pc2700?
    Thanx :)

    Hi
Do you mean the Satellite 2410 or the 2140?!
I ask it because the Satellite 2140 supports the 144-Pin PC100 SODIMM memory modules!!!
    http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=5523&ft=m&st=3
    and
Satellite 2410 supports 200-Pin PC2100/PC2700 DDR SODIMM memory modules
    http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=6080&ft=m&st=3
I would use the memory modules recommended by Toshiba because in such case you can be 100% sure that the notebook will run stable and properly!!!

  • Satellite U405D - Several questions about overheat/disassembly/upgrade etc.

    Hi there,
I have several questions about my one year old Satellite U405D-S2910
1- When it works, after 2-3 hours (I usually run small programs like safari, msn messenger and bsplayer) CPU gets 85-90 C (178-188 F). When I play Age of Empires 2 (Come on, its an ancient game) like 2-3 hours it shuts down itself. What could be the possible reason?? By the way, let me inform you about the climate of the town I live, temp 30C - humidity 25-35% (nowadays).
    ps. Cpu= AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Processor. Model, RM-74
2- I'm going to disassemble my laptop in order to clean its cooling units (I think reason of overheating is this). It doesnt seem like a desktop, so complicated. Ive seen a step-by-step disassembly(btw, its so hard to spell disassembly:) I think Im going to do this. What are your suggestions about it? any experiences could help me?
3- My laptops Ram memory consists of 2X2GB PC5300 DDR2 667 MHz SDRAM, I want to replace it to 2x2GB MACH XTREME DDR2 1333MHZ CL9 NOTEBOOK RAM. Should I do it? Does it fit my laptop, work stable? any suggestions?
    ps. mainboard chipset AMD M780V
4- finally :) , Should I use 64 bit OS or 32 bit OS (win7)? what OS would you use if you were me?
    Thank you.

    Hi buddy,
1+2. I think everything is related to a higher internal temperature and you should clean your notebook using compressed air spray. Therefore its not necessary to disassemble it, just blow gently and shortly the air through the notebook. You can buy such compressed air spray from every computer store I think and it takes only 5 minutes.
You can find an useful article about this here:
    3. In my opinion you should forget this update! The RAM speed is related to FSB of CPU and as far as I know on Satellite U405D its 667MHz so its already the fastest RAM that you can have. Save your money and buy a bigger HDD or in best case an SSD that can really improve the performance!
    4. In my opinion the answer is clear: Windows 7 64bit.
    Only a 64bit OS support full 4GB RAM. ;)

  • Question about Memory Slots on Equium notebook

I am putting in more Memory and the Manufacturer tells me to put the largest capacity Memory module in Socket No "0"
Can somebody please tell me how I will know which one is "0" and which is "1"
I have taken 512 MB module out of right hand stack and put in new 2GB Memory module. This gives me 512Mb in Left and 2GB in right.

    Hi David
Usually its no matter what memory module was placed in the single slot
The notebook should recognize both without any problems
    But back to your question;
The slots should be marked as 0 and 1. You should find these numerals somewhere near to the slots but once again you can use both modules in different slots ;)
    Best regards

  • A few questions about Memory and Power Supply for MSI 975X Platinum Powerup Edit

Bought this Motherboard: MSI 975X Platinum Powerup Edition
    975X Platinum V.2(7246-020)
    I have a P4 CPU HT in it with 2 512mb sticks of DDR2 memory (533mhz).
I am upgrading to a Core 2 Duo 6600 CPU which has a 1066mhz FSB
What memory speed should I purchase to achieve the fastest bus speed without overclocking???
I get confused as my current memory is 533 which I guess on a Pentium 4 with HT cuts the FSB speed in 1/2 to 266mhz.
    Any recommendations?
Do I need to buy Dual Channel or can I just buy 2 sticks?
    Thank you
    Peter

    Great info again guys!
I'll stay away from OCZ (I read it's more for overclockers).
    @DryHeat:
I watched your sig, great setup! I'm planning for about the same setup (MSI 975x PUE, P180, C2D, ...). But will try a Scythe Ninja for CPU cooler and use an MSI graphic card (maybe 2 cards for 4 monitors in total).
Is your setup silent or just quiet? Makes a big difference for me.
What would you change now? And what is the most noisy component?
Sorry for all the questions but I'm not an expert and by budget does not permit me from making any mistakes.
The case fans create the most noise.  When they are all on "low" I an hardly hear them and have to shake the mouse to see if it's on, but on medium it sounds like a "standard" computer.  Not terrible, but not quite.  On high they are down-right loud.

  • Important conceptual question about Application Module, Maximum Pool Size

    Hello everyone,
We have a critical question about the Application Module default settings (taking the DB connections from a DataSource)
I know that on the Web it is generally suggested that each request must end with either a commit or rollback when executing PL/SQL blocks "directly" on the DB without the framework BC/ViewObject/Entity service intervention.
Now, for some reasons, we started to develop our applications with thinking that each Web Session would reference exactly one DB session (opened by any instance taken from the AM pool) for the whole duration of the session, so that the changes made by each Web session to its DB session would never interfere with the changes made by "other" Web Sessions to "other" DB sessions .
In other words, because of that convincement we often implemented sort of "transactions" that open and close (with either commit or rollback) each DB session not in/after a single HTTP request, but during many HTTP Requests.
As a concrete example think of this scenario:
    1. the user presses the "Insert" button. An HTTP request is fired. The action listener is executed and ends up with inserting rows in a table via a PL SQL block (not via the ViewObjects API).
    2. no commit or rollback after the above PL/SQL block is done yet.
    3. finally the user presses a "Commit" or "Rollback" button, firing the call to the appropriate AM methos.
Those three requests consist of what I called "transaction".
From the documentation it's clear that there is no guarantee that the couple AM istance + DB session is the same during all the requests.
This means that, during step 2, it's possible that another user might reference the same "pending" AM/DbSession for his needs and "steal" somehow the work done via PL/SQL after step 1. (This happens because sessions taken by the pool are always rolled back by default.)
    Now my question is:
Suppose we set the "Maximum Pool Size" parameter to very a great number (always inferior to the maximum number of concurrent users):
Is there any guarantee that all the requests will be isolated in that case?
I hope the problem is clear.
Let me know if you want more details.

    Thanks for the answers.
If I am right, from all your answers about resource avaiability, this means that even supposing the framework is able to always give us the same AM instance back from the AM pool (by following the session-affinity criterias), there is, however, no "connection affinity" with the connections from the DataSource. This means that the "same AM instance" might take the "a new DB connection", if necessary, from the connection pool of the DataSource. If that happens, that could give us the same problems as taking "a new AM instance" (that is, not following session-affinity) from the beginning, since each time an a new connection is taken (either via a new AM instance or via the same AM instance plus a new DB connection), the corresponding DB session is rolle back by default, clearing all the pending transactions we might have performed before with direct PL/SQL calls bypassing the AM services during the life cycle of our application, so that the new HTTP request will have a clean DB session to start to work with.

  • Question about memory upgrade in a Equium A100-027

    Hi there,
I have an Equium A100-027 notebook with 2 x 512 MB RAM installed. I'd like to add extra memory.
I have used Crucial's (www.crucial.com) website to scan my system and recommend memory modules. According to Crucial the A100-027 will support 2 x 2 GB modules giving 4 GB in total.
However a quick search using Google suggest I can only install 2 x 1 GB (2 GB in total) modules.
    Can anyone clarify please.
    Thanks in advance,
    Stephen

No, guys. The machine can be upgraded up to 4GB since the chipset is able to handle 4 Gigs of RAM.
That means you will have to place 2 x 2GB in the slots of the machine and you will have your upgaded system. :)
One of my machines is a A100 (European - but it doesnt matter which country, chipset is worldwide the same) and Ive upgraded it to 4 Gig with kingston RAM.
    Hope I could help...
    Cheers

  • Satellite L20-101: can't connect my TV with the svhs

    Hi dudes,
    i have a problem.
I have a L20 - 101 and i can't connect my tv with the svhs exit of my toshiba.
I reinstalled drivers for motherboard and videographics, what can i try?
    thanks

Ok, sounds like a really un-nice problem.
So, how do you try to switch to the TV? You have the option in your display properties, but does the machine *recognize* the TV? You have also the key combination FN+F5 to change the display, did you already tried it?
And regarding your display drivers (which vga do you have? nvidia or ati?)
You can take a look here to find the latest working drivers for mobile platforms:

  • I have a question about memory?

    Hi again gang,
While researching memory for my new motherboard (k7N2 Delta-L), I was wondering, is it better to purchase good quality PC3200 like Mushkin or Corsair XMS, or higher speed VALUE memory like pc3500 or 4000?
Also, am I correct to think I can install any speed of memory, realizing I will only get the FSB speed of my equip.?  I might be able to use this higher speed memory down the road on a new build.
I am really a newb at this stuff, but I enjoy it and am learning everyday.
My new build will look something like this:
    Case: Aspire X-Dreamer II (with 350W PSU) - $54
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2800+ Barton - $118
    Cooling: Vantec AeroFlow VA4-C7040 - $23
    Motherboard: MSI K7N2 Delta-L - $73
    Memory: 512-MB (2x256-MB) Corsair PC3200 DDR - $87
Hard Drive: 120GB Western Digital SE - $90
    Video Card: PowerColor Radeon 9600 Pro 128-MB - $143
    Monitor: Samsung 955DF - $179
    Sound Card: 6-Channel Integrated - $0
    Speakers: Logitech Z640 6-Piece Speaker System - $60
    CD/DVD-ROM: AOpen 48x24x48x16 Combo Drive - $47
    Communications: Onboard LAN - $0
Mouse: Microsoft Intellimouse Optical - $15
Keyboard: Microsoft Multimedia Keyboard - $15
Operating System: Windows XP Home - $85
Floppy: Panasonic, TEAC, etc. - $8
I know I need a better PS like Antec true blue 480 watt.
Plus I will buy the AMD 2500 Barton and not sure about memory quality.
Yes, I want to OC this puppy.
    So this is so long.
    Thanks for all your thoughts.

If you guy's say no don't do it, then I will reconsider my situation.
    Thanks again.
there is nothing wrong with the L version.
but with the ilrs you can add sata drivers
instead of max 4 you can have 7 drives.
if you look in my sig i own the L version and it works good.
the L version uses realtek sound and its good.
i can hear no difference between Realtek and my addon soundblaster audigy.

  • Question about BC4J data tags, Oracle sessions and Locking!

    Hi ,
I have seen numerous examples of JSPs using data tags and in all the examples the data tag for the application module has the "username" and "password" harcoded in it.
    My questions are:
    1) For a stateful application should we be including the username and password in every JSP page. I personally believe that we should not.
    2) If we have a username and password in every JSP page will it not start a new ORACLE user session and if so will it not cause locking problems?
    3) If we don't hard code the username and password in every JSP page, will it reuse the same ORACLE session ?
    4) How do we avoid locking problems when we use data tags?
5)I can understand the inclusion of username and password in every JSP page if it is a stateless application but again Is there a way we can avoid hardcoding the username and password in every single page?
I would appreciate if some one can let me know if any of my assumptions are incorrect.
    JDeveloper Team/Juan any advice?

The username and password are optional. They can be provided via the connections.properties file. The multple entries for username and password don't mean that separate connection are made. The first time the ApplicationModule tag is encountered, your application instance is created. If you are running in reserved mode (look at your releasePageResources tag) the application instance is kept until your Http session times out. If you are running in Stateful or Stateless mode, you application instance is returned to the application pool and retrieved the next time you need an instance. Please refer to the application pool documentation and to the source in oracle\jbo\common\ampool provided in jbohtmlsrc.zip.

  • Questions about the future directions of InfoPath and Microsoft Access

Because I have been confused about the future directions of InfoPath and Access, I wrote a short blog post, which I have pasted below.  My question is, can Microsoft provide some more guidance on Access vs InfoPath?  If Access is indeed the
the future direction, can you please provide some pointers to resources that can help us transition.
A Short Review of MS Access,  SharePoint ,InfoPath (2013)
After the November 2012 SharePoint Conference in Las Vegas (#spc12) there were a number of blog posts and people saying that Access 2013 was great and would be replacing InfoPath.
    Marc Anderson and
    Ruven
Gotz have short posts summarizing #SPC12 and touch on the subject of InfoPath and Access.  I also spoke with several individuals shortly after #SPC12 and they were excited about Access 2013.
Since I rely heavily on InfoPath for much of what I do, I wanted to kick the tires and see what everyone was talking about.  First, a few notes about SharePoint 2013 and Office 2013.
Microsoft should rename Access:  If you have tried to
bing the word Access, then you know that the search results are overwhelming,  because the word "access" is used for so many other purposes.
Use the RTM version of Office 2013! I was performing  my investigations by leveraging the Office 365 Beta and the Office Applications that come with it.  Not much was working!  After I uninstalled the Beta
version of Office 2013 and Installed the RTM version everything seemed to work.
Windows 7 and IE 9.0: The drag & drop that is being touted as
"manna from heaven" seems to work well with Firefox, Safari, Chrome, and IE 10, but it does
    not work with IE 9!
Non Microsoft browsers are still second class citizens (except for the drag & drop):  Microsoft has finally done away with the Active X's for datasheet view (that is brilliant!)  One can now see the newly
minted datasheet view in many browsers.  But I still find that one needs to be in IE to do a number of key manual opeartions.  For example pasting numerous rows of data from a spreadsheet into the new sheet view works only in IE.
    Access 2013
Microsoft Access is touted as a non developer tool.  I know a number of people who are on the business side and love Access.  These people will like the renewed energy that Microsoft has applied to Access.   One should note that conceptually
this functionality existed  in SharePoint 2010.  Here is what I see that is new:
+The new version works better:Although I haven't tested it fully, it seems that many more features that work on the Desktop version of Access, now work in the published Web Application which is hosted by SharePoint 2013.
+The new version has fairly robust browser based forms: End users can now fill in data using forms that are rendered in the browser.
+The published version that resides in SharePoint now uses its own SQL server tables.  So the engine appears to be SQL Server, not a modified version of Access built for a server.  This stands to be quite robust, but I imagine
that some quirks will surface due to new model.
    The limitations are:
    - Access is pretty much its own application and does not integrate with SharePoint building blocks.  For example, an Access table is not easy to integrate with a SharePoint workflow.  Further, although  Access forms now are visible
in a browser, they are not nearly as rich as InfoPath forms.  InfoPath forms cannot easily integrate with the Access tables.  In order to integrate SharePoint features and Access, one needs to tie SharePoint list(s) to Access as data sources.
This overcomplicates the model and one may very well run into synchronization issues.
In short, although I believe there will be some people who will be happy with newly minted Access, I do not think that Access will be able to replace InfoPath and Workflow technologies.  I do agree that Microsoft does not seem to have put much energy into
InfoPath.  If they leave a vacuum in this space, then others may very well take over, for instance Nintex Forms.

Although I agree with the comments made by Ruven and Marc after the conference please note that those blog posts are their own personal opinions and that they don't work for Microsoft.  A lot of people have asked Microsoft to clarify the future of InfoPath
and the response up until now has been a deafening silence.  In my opinion speculations about Access replacing InfoPath are premature.
I should also point out that most of your comments about Access 2013 above are actually about Access Services in SharePoint Server 2013.  Access Services are NOT Access they are a shared service offering in SharePoint that convert and publish Access
databases and forms.  As you point out once an Access database is published through Access services it is converted to SQL Server and no longer resides in Access.  Of course I don't work for Microsoft either so these are all just my personal opinion.
Having said that I doubt you will get the confirmation/response that you are hoping for from any official Microsoft channel.
