Satellite L300-055 won't boot windows

Hi,
I have a satellite L300-055 laptop that fails to boot up.
I shut it down one night and the next time I turned it on it wouldn't boot.  It goes to a black screen with the following error message.
\Boot\BCD
Status OxcOOOOOOf
An error occured while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
It asks me for a recovery disk, but stupidly I didn't make one.  Is there anything that can be done to recover the system?
Any help would be appreciated!
Jen

If you can reach the recovery environment, Jen, there are lots of things to try.
Turn the computer on and immediately press and hold the F8 key.
On the Advanced Boot Options menu, choose Repair Your Computer.
When you reach the System Recovery Options menu (the recovery environment), choose Startup Repair.
If that doesn't do the trick, go back to the System Recovery Options menu and do a System Restore.
Let us know how it goes.

  • Re: Satellite L300-1AS won't boot

    HI all,
My L300 will now not boot (windows (Vista).
It displays a blue screen stating windows has been shut down and to check the installation of any new hardware or software.
There is no new hardware or software. It suggests disabling bios memory options (I don't know how to do that) and suggests starting in safe mode to remove or disable components.
The laptop will NOT start in any mode let alone safe mode, the repair mode brings me back to the blue screen as described.
I purchased a Toshiba recovery disc (Only one disc arrived?) which begins its process then either locks at ' select a language to proceed' or detects an error and requests i 'press any key to continue' which I do, it then displays X:\windows\system32> with the flashing cursor at the end of > and does nothing more, its been like that for 5 hours now...am i supposed to type something in or am I looking at a new hard drive?
Any suggestions for a numpty greatly appreciated (apart from leave computers alone you numpty obviously!!)
    Thansk
    Colin

I have now tried booting the unit with both modules separately, 1 module at a time in both the slots i.e. swapping them around, and still the blue screen. A friend checked the hard drive to see if he could retrieve anything but he said it went 'click'. Having listened to all you guys have said, and actec on your advice, (the fitness test didn't work at all), and the fact that I lost the screen completely at one stage, i'm inclined tio think this laptop may have filed its last program.
Do you think it's worth buying or trying another hard drive before I throw the towel in?

  • Satellite L300-139 won't boot

    Hello!
I got a "Satellite L300-139" a couple of years ago. It came with windows vista but no recovery cd (hence, i guess there should be a recovery partition in there?). I do not have a recovery CD for it, probably shoudl have burnt one though I did not...
The problem is that it cannot start windows, or even find the Vista installation. So what I did was I tried to install windows XP Pro (already had original cd since earlier). But it seems that installation won't work either, though at least it can be seen in advanced booting alternatives.
I have read about pressing F8, 0, et.c. and form there choose recovery/repair but there is no such option on the screen. I can choose "Safe mode", "Safe mode w command line", ... , "Start Windows normally" , "Use the latest working configuration" and those usual ones et.c but no option about resetting/restoring/recovery.
So, what happens when I choose any alternative is that I get to choose in the list of OS:s, which contains only windows xp.
Upon choosing this, either it tries to continue installaion of windows xp and I ahve to restart it, or bluescreen stop0x0000007B which has to do with faulty installation.
It seems the installation of XP did not work out very well, but shouldn't Vistra be visible as an option in the list of OS:s? Is it possible to reset my laptop to factory settings (or some other kind of reset/recover to make it work properly again)?
Is buying a recovery CD likely to fix this? Buying a 30+ euro CD to fix a 3-4 year old 300 euro laptop seems kind of expensive if it may not even help...
Any downloads or suggestions at all?
    Any help is appreciated!
    thx in advance!

Yes, it would seem that your HDD drive did contain a recovery partition. You can read up on this on page 3-8 (56) of your L300 Series User Guide, that I have attached to this post, and how you could have made a set of recovery disks on page 3-9 (57). However, after the XP installation attempt, if not before, you have may well have deleted or corrupted your recovery partition.
If you can no longer run the recovery utility from the hard drive, I would strongly recommend paying put for the recovery disks. Running these will return your unit to its factory default, out-of-the-box state, install all Toshiba drivers and utilities, and originally installed software. In addition, it will rebuild your HDD's recovery partition. This will save you a lot of grief in trying to manually reconstruct your system in Vista or XP.

  • Satellite L300 laptop won't load Windows

I have a Satellite L300 model number PSLB0A-00L022 running windows Vista.
The problem is that it won't load Windows. It starts ok and I can access the boot manager and the setup utility and that's it. It just stops loading.
After researching the problem I ran a drive fitness test and the result was error code 0x70. After looking up the code Im under the impression that I need to erase the disk. I have no problem with that.
My question is - if I run the windows recovery wizard will it fix my problem? Will I have to re install vista at all? Any advice is appreciated!!

Hello Jane and welcome in Toshiba forum
After reading your posting I must say that best and easiest solution for you is to reinstall operating system using original Toshiba recovery DVD. This DVD contains operating system, all necessary drivers, Toshiba specific tools and utilities. After recovery image installation you will have out-of-box state and clean preinstalled OS.
Yes, this should fix your problem. Please note: when you do this all saved data will be deleted.
Do you have some important data saved on your notebook?
If not use this disc reinstall Vista and everything should be ok again.

  • Satellite M55-s3293 won't load windows xp

my Satellite M55-s3293 won't load windows xp.  I press the power button, the fan runs for a few seconds, than I see the toshiba screen and it freezes.  I get a message to press f2 to enter setup, f12 for boot device selection menu.  I've gone into both menu's, to no avail.
If I wait for a minute or so, I get a message saying that windows did not start sucessfully .  I have options to start in safe mod, last known good config, or normally.  I've tried each of those selections, but get the same frozen toshiba screen with message to select f2 or f12.  my cd drive will not open to allow me to try a recovery disk.
Do you have any suggestions for me please.
    Thanks
Just tried f8 during startup and got tech info:

  • Satellite C870D-12F won't boot Win8

    Hi
My Satellite won't boot (windows 8) anymore, and I'm also not able to reset to factory settings.
The harddisk is still ok if I put it in another PC I can see all the partitions.
Does anyone sees something wrong in the partition type or properties?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Kindest regards

    Hi All
No help was afforded ,so I fixed it myself!! And WITHOUT the recovery medium.
I installed windows 8.1 again from a downloaded iso (I didn't had a key for this version).
Now I had an unregisterd windows running but "Recovery back to Factory setting" was still not available.
But I was able to get the recovery partition to be recognized again with this procedure
I downloaded Visual BCD: In here I check alt the path's in the BCD store and especially if the GUID of the "Windows Recovery Environment" is the same as the one used for "recoverysequence" in your "OS loader". You can also get here the WinReBCD id (GUID), you will need this in ReAgent.xml
    A GUID looks like this: {ecca5163-d630-9447-a175-fc367f40a9e5}
Second thing: check in c:\windows\system32\recovery\Reagent.xml that
WinReBCD, ImageLocation, PBRImageLocation, DownlevelWinreLocation and OSInstallationLocation are pointing to the right "path, GUID and Offset".
+In my case ImageLocation, PBRImageLocation and DownlevelWinreLocation point to partition 1 (first on).+
    +OSInstallationLocation points to partition 6 (last one)+
    +example:+
    +<ImageLocation path="\Recovery\WindowsRE" id="0" *offset="1048576"* guid="{ecca5163-d630-9447-a175-fc367f40a9e5}"/>+

  • Satellite L300-055 - VGA output doesn't work on external TV

First I will give you my Laptop Specs: Toshiba Satellite L300-055 series laptop bought January 2009- 2GB RAM upgrade- Intel 4 Series Chipset Family
Okay, I recently purchased a wire/connector like Link: [This One|http://www.vista24.biz/ebay/tpschc/v2b27214c.jpg] and when I plug it in to my To my vga port and the other end to the tv (via RCA) and follow the instructions by turning off my laptop then turn on the tv then turn back on the laptop- but NOTHING shows on the tv.
The cable is working perfectly well. When I press fn+F5 it still only shows that no external monitor is plugged in. Do i need more drivers? Does my laptop not support tv-out. If not- is it possible to install a S-video port onto my laptop?
    Thanks

    Hello
Have you tested both connections possibilities? I mean the S-Video port and the Chinch?
If you have connected the laptop to the TV, shut down the notebook. If the notebook is powered off, switch on the TV and then notebook.
Then you can normally switch between the monitors by pressing FN+F5.
Furthermore its not possible to install an S-Video port on your laptop.

  • Satellite A205-S5804 won't boot.

My computer Satellite A205-S5804 won't boot.
It won't run on safe mode, and it won't run the system restore.
It remains black with a cursor, if anything at all.
How do I get my computer back on?

    Hi
Youve got a cursor which is flashing in the upper left corner?
In such case you should check of the HDD has been recognized by BIOS!
If the HDD is listed in BIOS then I would recommend checking the HDD using the drives fitness test:
    http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm
To run the drives fitness test you must download the appropriate creator or image and create a self-booting media.
    Check it!

  • Satellite L40 18P won't boot anymore

    Hello folks,
my Satellite L40 18P won't boot anymore. All I get is the Power LED to go green. The DVD ROM drive blinks and I can open and close it - but that's it. Nothing else happens.
Any idea in the forum what I can do to get the notebook boot again ? Or please ask questions for additional details.
    many thanks, Johi 13

    Hi,
    wow, that was fast.
No, I can't see anything - the screen stays black. I do not hear the HDD start, neither do I hear the fan.
This behavior appeard for the first time yesterday evening.
Last activity was (if I remember correctly) closing the lid and sending the notebook to standby.
So far, I haven't tested it with an external monitor.
    thanks, Johi13

  • Satellite Pro A10 won't boot up - Where to get the disks

I have a Satellite Pro A10 which currently won't boot up Windows (XP) as it says
The following file is corrupt or damaged:
    C:\Windows\System32\Config\System
The Tools & Utilities CD-Rom which came with my laptop has unfortunately been scratched and won't boot.
I have the two System Recovery Disks, which are fine.
    My questions:
    1. Is it possible to purchase a replacement Tools & Utilities CD-Rom?
    2. If so, where from?
    3. Is there a way of restoring my laptop without having to completely reinstall everything and lose all my files?
    Thanks
    Message was edited by: Stuart_2007

    Regarding the point;
    a) Usually it should be possible to order the Tools & Utilities CD-Rom but I ask why?
    b) You can purchase the CD from the ASP in your country
    c) The older recovery CD supports an expert mode. You can use this mode to choose the partition where the OS should be installed. In such case only this partition will be formatted.
But listen dude. You dont need to order the Tools & Utilities CD because on this CD you will find only the Toshiba drivers which can be downloaded from the Toshiba page too.

  • Satellite Pro A10 won't boot (HDD seems to be missing)

Hello, I hope someone can give me some advice on this problem: I have a 2 year old Satellite Pro A10. Recently it won't boot at all and I notice that if i look at the directories in the C: drive using the command prompt it says 'file not found'. Can't start Windows at all, not even in Safe Mode.
Using the recovery disks doesn't help either I get messages like No such fixed Disk and 'Extraction Failed'.
    does this mean I have:
    1 A damaged hard disk
    2. Faulty connections to the HDD? - if so how do I rectify this?
the system didn't crash before this happened, it failed to load up when I started it.
    Would appreciate any help.
    Thanks,
    Scl

Jeffery and Ivan25 are correct in HDD malfunction. Try and remove and reattach the HDD and see if BIOS sees the HDD. If not you are going to need to order a replacement HDD. If BIOS does not even see the HDD then you wont even be able to install any Operating system, because there is logically nowhere to store the data being copied.
Take it to an Authorized service provider near you to have it checked out. Could also very well be the HDD Controller on the Motherboard has went bad and can not detect any HDD connected to the motherboard even if it is new and unused.

  • Satellite L300-1G9 does not boot in safety nor normal mode

    Hello,
My computer will not load up from safety mode nor normal mode.
Although Macafee, my virus protection software provider believe their recent problems are to blame they have offered no solution and instead have asked me to load windows with my 'installation disk'.
I cannot find this, where do I get it from? (p.s. my computer is the Satellite L300 - 1G9 series.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi
If you are not able to boot up the Windows then try firstly the HDD recovery option:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm
If this will not work then you need the recovery disk which you could order here:

  • Satellite C655-S5128 won't boot up

Satellite C655-S5128 shut down due to low battery before we could get charger plugged in.  Now it won't boot up.  It's stuck on the Toshiba logo page that also says to press F2 or F12 for setup/boot options.  There's also a faint beeping sound we've never heard before. After a while of pushing buttons an error message popped up stating no bootable device can be found.  Any suggestions are appreciated.

    Satellite C655-S5128
Let's try a proper system reset, and see if this helps bring your laptop back.  Power off your system, unplug everything including the AC, remove the battery, press and hold down the power on button for 30 seconds, replace battery and AC, power on, when you see the Toshiba logo press the 'F2' key to enter BIOS Setup, in setup press 'F9' to load setup defaults, press 'F10' to save and exit, then try to boot into Windows again.
Let us know what happens. Good luck.

  • Satellite P75-A7200 won't boot

    Hello all,
I've had my Satellite P75 for over a year and it's performed flawlessly. Recently though, when I power off the laptop before I go to bed and then turn it on in the morning, it takes over a half hour for the boot sequence to actually reach Windows 8.1. The laptop's power light and keyboard both illuminate, so the unit obviously still receives power. Now, though, it hangs at a black screen and won't reach windows at all after having left it running for over 2 hours.
I've tried removing and re-inserting the main battery, CR-2032 battery, and HDD, as well as multiple F2 and F12 button combinations on startup. The laptop still stays at a black screen upon power-up and won't reach Windows at all. I can't access the BIOS or the advanced startup options as it doesn't even reach the Toshiba logo anymore. I've made sure not to leave the AC adaptor plugged in as I know it can overcharge the battery; I've also experienced a strange electric current on the aluminium housing of the laptop when it's plugged in (Could this be because the AC adaptor uses 2 prongs and therefore isn't grounded?).
Any quick fixes or help for this would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I found very interesting document about recovery options after system upgrade to Win8.1
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB4403L30001R01.htm
I didnt test it because I have created recovery USB before I have started to change preinstalled OS and installed Win8.1 upgrade.
Please check it out and send some feedback.

  • Windows HP laptop won't boot Windows - possible hard disk failure!

    Hi there!
A month ago my HP Pavilion dv6-6b57sa completely froze mid-use, and was unable to move the mouse or get any sort of response.
Naturally I held the power button to hard shutdown and restarted. Ever since then I have been unable to boot Windows 7 (the original OS) properly, and all I could get to was a Startup repair which took days to try to fix the issues, eventually coming up with a message saying it was unable to fix the errors.
Today I decided to ditch the data I had stored and do a fresh install - using the HP wizard by pressing F11 on boot and using a newly created USB Windows 7 install drive. After getting to the point of install process of Windows just loading the files, after choosing a hard drive partition successfully etc. the installation quit, citing a number of issues (screenshots link are below).
So I then try to restart the computer, and get a 'SMART Hard disk error' (screenshot link below) and when I select continue startup from there, it says Windows failed to start (screenshot link below) and then leads to me to the Startup repair manager again - which fails again - (screenshot link also below!)
So after doing a hard drive test, it says it has failed (screenshot link also below).
So what can I do? Is there a serious hardware related issue linked with the hard drive (which is bound to cost lots of £££ I bet), or are there further steps I can take?
    Screenshot links: http://1drv.ms/1jnjviU
Many thanks for your help in advance,

Yes and you had to at the moment since you won't have a key unless you buy one from Microsoft for about 99 dollars.
Try you best to get the key readble I mean try to read it, good luck!
