Satellite L300 - Always rip the music if I insert a music CD

Hi Guys
New Satellite L300 laptop owner with a frustration. The answer is probably dead easy but it's really getting to me now.
Every time I insert a music CD to listen to the music, the laptop decides to rip the music to my library. I've tried disabling this from the options box but it doesn't seem to matter which way it is configured, it ALWAYS rips the music to the library. I don't want absolutely EVERY CD I ever listen to, to be stored on my laptop. I would like to be able to choose which tracks I rip to my laptop.
Does anyone know where I am going wrong or is it another VIsta gremlin? Any help would be appreciated
Cheers
AllTosh

hi Guest,
open the mediaplayer without having a cd in the drive.
i only got a german version but under the button "copy from" there is "more option" to choose...
this should open the settings dialog, under "options" the register card "copy musik" there is a setting called "settings to copy from" or similar.
uncheck the box "always copy if inserted" and the mediaplayer will not make any copy until you force it to...
you have to reboot after changing the settings... sure this should work without reboot but make it safe...

  • Re: Satellite L300 - Doesn't play music CD

Hi guys new to this forum
My Satellite will not play the music CD. When put in was working fine.
Please help not sure how to even read answers yet

    Hi!
Have you tried another music CD? Maybe the CD is scratchy and cant be read anymore properly so you should try another one.
Furthermore it would be interesting to know what happens exactly if you put in the disk. Have you also tried another program to listen the CD (e. g. VLC media player)?
Is your CD/DVD listed with yellow exclamation mark in device manager? If yes you should remove the upper- and lower filters in registry. Ask Google to find a how to about this.

  • ITunes can't find the music - long post

Here’s the situation; apologies for length, I want to get all the details down.
    The music collection:
8Tb (and growing) in lossless format, on an Ethernet network, accessed via the Mac Mini running OS 10.9.2 that’s my entertainment centre. The music is stored on a D-Link server in a RAID 1 setup. I’ve disabled the iTunes import features keep the iTunes media folder organised and copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library because with a very large library of opera and other classical music with multiple artists, this produces chaos. I’ve tried editing the file info before import, but the organisational results are still awful. I put the music files into folders named by composer, then subfolders for each work named by composer and performer(s), then add them to the library. If I didn’t do this I’d have (and have had), e.g. Turandot sorted by artist into eight separate albums. I’m sure many of you know the problem already, I just want to make sure everything’s clear.
There’s also a separate, lower bit rate, collection for my iPod.
    The music library (.itl) files:
There are two, the complete library file for home listening, and the separate library file for   iPod music. I’ve tried keeping the library files on my hard drive so they’re included in Time Machine backups; and keeping them on the server with the music collection. The same problem happens whichever way I do this.
I option+click when loading iTunes to select the library file I want to use, to make iTunes point to the correct media file location. I make sure I’m connected to the server before I do this(!)
    The problems:
Every time I select a playlist either the playlist doesn’t list any tracks but shows me how many songs there are in the playlist; or iTunes tells me it can’t find the first file in the list - do I want to locate it manually? I do locate it and then I have to tell iTunes to find the other missing files;  it finds the files in that playlist but then takes several minutes to tell me that it can’t find all the other ‘missing’ files in that big library. Meanwhile, I’m not able to listen to any music.
It seems to me that iTunes only works properly if the music is actually on the local hard drive but how many of us have that little music? I buy DVDs and rip the music myself, at max bit rate, I don’t buy downloads.
One problem seems to be that the Mac OS doesn’t index external drives automatically, is this true? This morning I’ve forced Spotlight to index the server drives using the terminal mdutil command but it’s made no difference, the problems are still there. What is Spotlight supposed to do? I’ve followed the instructions for using it and researched using it on the Web, but it’s never been able to find files I know are there, yet EasyFind has no trouble locating anything on the local drive, the music server or other external drives. I suspect that there are more fundamental bugs in the OS affecting this, because sometimes I’ve looked at a folder count in the Finder and know that the displayed number of files is wrong, it’s less than the number of files I know are there. Get Info will give me different numbers for the same folder at different times when I haven’t added or deleted any files in it.
I’m looking at Music Collector as a replacement for iTunes, but if iTunes’ problems are based in the OS, there doesn’t seem any point in switching. The price is reasonable, I’m happy to pay for it if it will work properly on the Mac OS. If I’d had to pay for iTunes I’d be getting my money back as it obviously isn’t fit for purpose. I’m in the EU, we have proper consumer protection laws here.
The Mini is 17 months old, still under a 3-year high ed warranty and has just come back from servicing at an Apple retailer, which fixed a software problem that prevented the OS from loading, so it should be problem-free... right?
Do you think reimporting the whole music collection again, using the two iTunes settings I’ve disabled, would make iTunes retain its links? I have the server space. It’s a nightmare scenario, imagine that Turandot again, 55 tracks split into eight albums, by soloists, conductor, and orchestra, and iTunes’ and/or Mac OS search facilities not working properly. How would I find all the tracks and create playlists for everything? There’s a lot of CDs that would give me the same problems. I have a 50-CD set of the Berlin Philharmonic covering 100 years of recordings, trying to organise this into coherent playlists multiplies the Turandot problem many times over. It goes on. That’s why I switched to organising the music myself in the first place, I was getting migraines trying to find everything to create playlists and not listening to any music.
I’ve been running various Linux distros on a dedicated box for several months, but again, music is the obstacle to switching. I haven’t found products that do what Audio Hijack Pro (especially) and Fission do, on Linux. Everything else on that platform works for me.
Sorry about the length, but music is the most important thing my Macs do. I’m disabled and music matters a lot. Any tips, links or advice generally would be much appreciated. I don’t mind spending a reasonable amount of money to get something that’s reliable, because iTunes doesn’t seem to be it, although I wish it was.
    TIA.

Is this a NAS type of setup (of which I know very little)?  Mine is not a response based upon strong technical knowledge but iTunes seems to have problems with those.  Just about everybody has issues with iTunes but you say it is not fit  for the purpose.  What is that?  I bet for 99% of people it does.  Not  everybody has 8TB collections they are trying to use with a RAID structured  external server. iTunes is really a mass consumer piece of software.  Yes, many people have expanded beyond internal drives, but NAS arrangements seem to add levels of complexity beyond a direct external drive that is Mac formatted and at most served by an Apple brand wireless router which I suspect is probably how everything is tested. Anything more is fortuitous in terms of support.  Except that you say the library files are on the external drive too it sounds to me like the server is asleep when you say it cannot find files and then suddenly can when you go to find one.

  • Recovery disk Creator & data partition won't work - Satellite L300

My niece asked me to re-install her Toshiba Satellite L300 laptop, because the windows installation is rather buggy. She didn't have a recovery disk. Using Toshiba's Recovery Disk Creator I tried creating a recovery disk.
However, the program wouldn't start. Checking the directory of the program, it would seem that the program simply isn't there. Afterwards, I checked the data partition of the laptop.
There was a map with HDD recovery. However when using Windows' advanced boot (F8 before Windows startup) there was no choice of repairing the notebook. They only choices were the standard windows options (Save mode, normal start, etc.).
In short, it seems impossible to re-install the notebook with the current information at hand.
What would be the next course of action? Is it possible to order a recovery CD from Toshiba?
Another niece has the same notebook, would it be possible to use that notebook to create a recovery disk?
I'll appreciate and look forward to your reactions.

    Hi
It looks like something has been changed on the HDD
However, fact is youve no Recovery disk and you cannot use HDD recovery option.
This means you need to order a new Recovery disk from Toshiba.
    You can do this here:

PS: one tip if you would use a search option of this forum, you would find the right answer too ;)

  • What is it that resets the Music Location when iTunes starts?

So whenever you have your Music Location set to a mount on a remote device. Such as a share on a Time Capsule for instance if the mount isn't present when iTunes starts iTunes will always reset the Music Location back to it's default.
Is there a way to stop this from happening?
Can I make it so that mount is always available before iTunes or iTunes Helper starts?
Both I and my wife on her Air want to share the same remote device for our music library but we don't want iTunes to keep reseting the Music Location.

Option selects the iTunes library file, which is most likely in the /Music/iTunes folder on the Mac HD.
The iTunes music folder is on the Time Capsule which needs to be mounted.
As Robert noted, add the Time Capsule to your Login items.

WHEN I START WINDOWS SHOW ERROR MESSAGE ... GET GENUINE NOW..ASK ME LATER... WHEN I CONNECT INTERNET SHOW ERROR WINDOWS IS NOT GENUINE.
I CLICK RESOLVE NOW.. MICROSOFT SITE IS VALIDATE BUT SHOWS NOT GENUINE PLEASE BUY A NEW PRODUCT KEY...PLEASE HELP ME HOW TO GET GENUINE MY WINDOWS

    Hello
    > I INSTALL WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM USING TOSHIBA PRODUCT RECOVERY DISK
I doubt you have installed Windows 7 from Toshiba recovery disk
As far as I know Satellite L300 was only delivered with Vista or XP. Satellite L300 wasnt on the market anymore at Windows 7 was released.
I think you have to buy an official Windows 7 disk with product key. Such Windows 7 installation is genuine and you will not have any problems.

  • Satellite L300 (PSLB8E) - After BIOS update it doesn't boot again

    Hello there..
Please help me to overcome this issue.
I have downloaded the latest BIOS for my Satellite L300 PSLB8E. The previous BIOS was 1.90 but I was facing some nework related error so I thought upgrading BIOS may help to solve it. I have download a new BIOS which is exe file 2.10, its installed successfully and then shut down but never booted again. I have tried to boot it many time. I have tried all the keys. I can only see one power led and two battery light.
I dont know what to do now. I have a recovery disk but it also not working. I'm stuck.Ii had a bunch of emails to reply I'm lost now.
    Please help me someone.

    Hi dhaval2000in,
Unfortunately I think the case is clear: Something went wrong due BIOS update and now your notebook cant start anymore :(
The Toshiba recovery disk will not help you because it doesnt contain any BIOS reflashing programs it contains only a recover image of Windows with all drivers and tools.
In my opinion you have to contact an authorized service provider in your country to get rid of this because the guys have to reflash the ROM module.
Im sure you can clarify this problem with the technicians and then you can use your notebook again :)

  • Help needed with system recovery Satellite L300-149

    Hi
    We have a Satellite L300-149.
Was running really slowly so wanted to reset it to factory settings.
Did the 'press F12 when starting, put disk in' etc etc BUT have a horrible feeling that I put a disk in that actually belonged to a different Toshiba we used to use a U300.
The 'give away' was that the user manual for the U300 is now on the desktop on the Satellite :-/
I hoped that this wouldn't be a major problem BUT the F8 key has now disappeared making it impossible to connect to the internet.
I looked online and read that the L300 sometimes doesn't come with a disk as the info is kept on a separate part of the hard drive so hoped I could reset it back to factory settings again but when I click F2 on start up and go to the option to restore it, noting happens.
    Can anyone please help??????

    Hi
    Forget the HDD recovery now
You have recovered the system using another disk and this has deleted the HDD recovery image files. So this option is NOT possible!
You are right the L300 and all other notebooks are not delivered with Recovery disks.
The recovery disk has to be created using the preinstalled software called Recovery Disk Creator. But this is also NOT possible because you removed the preinstalled system and the files which are needed for such recovery disk are not available anymore!
But if everything work properly except of the WLan FN + F8 key, then I would recommend to install only the Wlan driver. I think the key does not work because the right WLan driver is not installed.
I think the Satellite L300-149 supports the Wlan Realtek RTL8187B chip.
So install the right Wlan driver which you can find here:

  • I just purchased a new computer and want to synch my iPod.  My music (including iTunes purchases and my personal CD rips) is located on a WD portable hard drive.  What do I do to synch my iPod and have it recognize the music on the WD drive ?

I just purchased a new Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium (Service Pack 1) OS.  I own an iPod Classic that has always been synched with my old laptop.  All my music (including iTunes purchases and personal music CD rips) is on a WD portable hard drive.  What are the steps to take to synch my existing iPod with my new laptop and get all the music ?

Import the music on the external HD into iTunes.  If you don't want iTunes to make a new copy of each track that is stored in your iTunes Media folder on your PC's internal HD, make sure the Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library option is NOT ticked from under the Advanced tab of iTunes Preferences.  Just remember that if you go this route, you'll always need to have your external HD plugged in before you start up iTunes.

  • How to connect my Satellite L300 to the TV?

    Hi...
I have a Toshiba Satellite L300-2C4 and wish to connect it to my Toshiba 32HV10E plazma
The tv have a hdmi input, so I bought VGA adaptor and connect it to the computer
    Unfortunately it doesnt work.
The computer can recognise the tv but not the same with the plazma
    Anyone?

    I agree with Tom.
Problem is that your notebook has external monitor port only and can send video signal only. Many TVs have such port but I dont know if this plazma TV has such port too.
As Tom already wrote try with VGA adapter.
    > The computer can recognise the tv but not the same with the plazma
To be honest this sentence is not so clear to me.

  • How do I transfer the music I ripped from cds I own to a new PC with iTunes?

    Greetings y'all.
Some one I work with uses iTunes, and he wants to transfer all of his music from his old computer to his new computer. I went to the apple website trying to find answers. They have some pretty decent tutorials on how to transfer your music from one PC to another PC.
However, here's the curve ball, my co-worker has much music that they ripped from CDs. Whenever I tried some of the methods detailed on those tutorials they would simply not transfer the ripped music, all of which he legitimately purchased.
One of the methods details simply going to the folder that iTunes stores the music and copying it to an external then copy pasting it on to the other computer. When I tried this it not only did not copy the ripped music, it deleted it off of the external. Only the music which he purchased on the Apple iTunes store transferred over successfully.
He still has his old computer and won't get rid of it until we know for certain that his music is safely on his new computer.
Do you guys have any thoughts on this dilemma? Would home sharing work better on this?
The iTunes version on both his computers is the same.  He is running Windows 7 on his new machine, and Windows XP on his old machine.

I don't know Windows, so all I can suggest is how one moves the iTunes folder to another machine via an external drive. Now, if he added tracks but did not have them stored into the iTunes library then they are stored elsewhere on the old computer or he's just going to have to re-rip them from the CD. BTW, if he rips them using iTunes, then they should not require any conversion. iTunes rips as MP3s. They shouldn't require any conversion.

  • When I try to sync my music on my iPhone 4 I have a tab at the top that says 'on this iPhone' The music in that tab is always on my phone but does not show in my itunes library.  How can I get it into my library?

When I try to sync my music on my iPhone 4 I have a tab at the top that says 'on this iPhone'.  This is at the end of all the other tabs like info, ringtones, music etc. The music in that tab is always on my phone but does not show in my itunes library.  How can I get it into my library?  It doesn't sync either.

The new iTunes has a somewhat different look from the previous version.  You can get the old look back if you prefer it by doing View > Show Sidebar in iTunes.  Or you can adapt to the new look.

I have a problem. When I start to sync music to my iPod touch, you have to enter the password of your account. I downloaded the game from the general account, and do not always know the password. He writes that if I do not login, then the game will be erased. Previously, this was not. When starting to sync music, it did not touch my programs, and now because of this music can not be transferred to iPods. PANIC AT ME! HELP

If they are Tunes purchased music you have to sing into the account that purchased them.
Is this the iTunes library/computer you sync with? You can rally only "sync" with one iTunes library/computer.However, yo can manually manage music and videos among different libraries/computer. See the manual method of:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad
