Satellite L300 - Can't upgrade to Windows 7

Attempted to upgrade my Satellite L300 laptop (running Office Home and Student 2007) and got as far as the final Driver installation "Realtek High definition Audio Driver 6.0.1.5904" at which point the upgrade froze, so I could not progress to inserting the Windows 7 Home Premium DVD. I managed to reboot after some difficulty and then Restored my system to the pre-upgrade point.
When I now insert the Toshiba Upgrade DVD, I am confronted with the screen relating only to the Realtek driver upgrade.
Any suggestions how to get passed this hurdle. My computer is still functioning on Vista

Hi
Have you already tried to update the sound driver yourself? Please try to download and install the latest Realtek driver from the Realtek Homepage. Install the new driver and reboot the notebook. Now you can try to upgrade again.
Otherwise follow the instructions posted by Akuma.
But I must say sometimes the drivers must be update before you can upgrade to Windows 7 and by the way, maybe this is useful for you:

  • Can i upgrade to windows 8.1 enterprise from 90 day evaluation version

can i upgrade to windows 8.1 enterprise from 90 day evaluation version? as our company has volume license key for win 8.1 enterprise purchased

    yes you can.
Skip Product Key Input in Windows 8.1 Setup
To achieve our objective, we need to edit the ei.cfg (edition configuration) file present inside the
/sources folder of the ISO image. All we need to do is to provide the version details inside this file so that Windows Setup is not needed to ask for a product key to install the appropriate version relevant to that product key.
If you are going to install Windows 8.1 using a USB drive, transfer the installation files to the USB and then proceed to step 2. On the other hand if you need to create a DVD, open the ISO using a utility such as MagicISO so that the structure is not affected.
    Browse to the /sources folder.
Look for the ei.cfg file and open it in a text editor such as Notepad or Notepad++ (preferred). If the file doesn’t already exist, create a new text document and rename it as ei.cfg
Now amend the file depending on the version which is included in your particular copy and the version which you want to install. For Professional edition which will be the best bet for most of the users, paste the following context into the
ei.cfg file. Make sure that anything that already exists in the file should be cleared first.
    [EditionID]
    Professional
    [Channel]
    Retail
    [VL]
    0
Save the file and run the Windows 8.1 setup again. The setup will not ask for the Product Key anymore.
This is not a hack or anything illegal. The configuration above is supported by Windows installer and is well documented by Microsoft and can also be used on some other versions of Windows as well.

  • How do I find out whether my computer can be upgraded to windows 10?

I have been searching the HP web site to see if my computer can be upgraded to windows 10.  I also tried the the hp support assistant and it just directed me to a sales page about windows 10.  I don't want to mess up this computer and reload all the software if it is not compatable.  Is there a list of compatable HP computers or an app I can run to check?  I have wasted lots of time searching HP support for this information.  Microsoft says to go to the manufacturer for this information.  Please help.

They are in process of making that webpage to check, you can keep checking, the link on the page below is still broken. http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-Phoenix-810-400-Desktop-PC-series/7477706/model/7485498/document/c04758308/

  • Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, Can't upgrade to Windows 10 - "Something happened" error

I've tried several times and I simply can't upgrade to Windows 10 on my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro. The instalation process exists with the absurd "Something happened" error. I tried to set the Locale to en/us, and tried to install the ISO through a USB stick but no luck! Earlier I had setup my yoga 2 pro as a dual boot with both Windows 8.1 and Linux. Although I've never made any change to my OEM drives, since I went dual boot the one key recovery service also doesn't work. I still have all those OEM drives intact. When I go to the BIOS setup, I have two boot sectors, one is the original windows boot, and the other is the new linux boot; but I'm not sure it is related or not.

    Hi SteveU,
Many things been tried (read the original post) - hybrid shutdown, intel drivers, uninstalling and installing again Lenovo Energy Managment driver (win 8.1 one), trying to use the Windows10 default driver for Energy management, shutting down with holding the shift (or alt button) can't remember now, many many things and clearly this is a Micorosft issue + Lenovo. Not enough testing down before hand, but everyone is happy at Lenovo as our money is at their bank... and have got expensive bit of kit that we shut-down holding down the button - because is just better than pressing shut-down...
This is the second time I'm let down by Lenovo - was thinking will give them another chance but as you can see moderators viewing or post but none of them has got a solution - isn't that right Amy@Lenovo or Majestic
Clearly Ms and Lenovo will blame each other now.
    Fed up with this...
Windows 8.1 is the way to go, don't know why I was hoping that the latest MS updates will sort the issue out - wrong again
At least the Mail app works fine now

  • Satellite L300 - Can I purchase Windows 7 from Microsoft

My Satellite L300 came with Vista Home Premium. I formatted the drive and installed Windows XP to enable me to run a software not compatible with Vista.
Now Windows wants me to activate the OS.
I now want to purchase Windows 7 from Microsoft.
Will I be able to install Windows 7? or will the Vista product key tied to the system reject the installation?

    > Will I be able to install Windows 7?
Definitely. Ive installed Win7 32bit on friends L300 and it works perfectly. Much better than Vista.
For Win7 activation you need valid product key that you can get from Microsoft. Vista key placed at the sticker will not help you at all.

  • Satellite L300-13R PSLB0E - Upgrading Vista Operating System to Windows 7

Hi. Had my laptop for a couple of years now using Vista operating system. I'm thinking of doing a brand new clean install of Windows 7x64.
Is this possible on this laptop and how easy will it be? I'm no techy but am worried that if I do the clean install, I will lose my drivers etc.
Also, is there anyway of putting back on to the laptop the Toshiba programs - face recognition etc etc?

    Hey,
Clean installation of Windows is always a good idea because after such a clean installation it will run much faster and I do this every 1-2 year to improve the performance.
Furthermore Windows 7 is faster than Vista so I dont use Vista anymore.
As MisterX wrote for Satellite L300 you can find all drivers and tools on Toshiba page:

  • Satellite L300D BSOD after upgrading to Windows 7

I've had this laptop (Satellite L300D) for a bit more than a year with windows vista (32-bit) running and there have been no problems. However, i just recently upgraded to Windows 7 (x64) and have gotten problems since the first reboot.
On the first reboot after windows 7 installation, the computer simply turned off after the "Starting Windows" screen. Powering it up again took me to system repair where it performed a system restore and i was able to boot successfully again. I thought the problem had something to do with the automatic updates so i disabled them and tried to reboot to see if the problem was fixed. This time, after the "Starting Windows" screen i got a Fatal System Error BSOD. After multiple reboot attempts and multiple system repair attempts (which usually said it failed) it successfully booted up again.
This problem has been going for about 3 weeks now and it's quite irritating. The results from the system repair claims that a "Boot Critical File is Corrupt" but it does boot up eventually after multiple attempts to boot. It also has a habit of turning itself off randomly while running (happens about once or twice a day). So as of now, everytime i try to start my comp it either turns off after the startup screen or gives the BSOD and restarts and the only way to get it working seems to be to keep attempting to boot and hope for a successful boot up (this eventually happens after a few failed attempts).
I did a bit of research on this and came to [this|http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?modelFilter=L300D-ST3501&rpn=PSLC8U&category=&selCategory=3&moid=222 1251&os=&ct=DL&selFamily=1073768663] page. I think that's exactly what my problem is (need to update BIOS) but as i understand the windows install for that is only for xp/2000/vista and i'm unable to use the second option of booting from disc as i get the BSOD before it gets to that point. Should i try the windows install option even though i'm running windows 7 or is there some other way to update the BIOS? Or am i completely off and the problem is with something else?
I wasn't sure what information i should add to this post so if any further information is required please let me know.
    Thanks in advance
Edit: Oops, just realised the page i linked doesn't link to exactly what i had opened. I'm talking about the "Critical BIOS updates for 64-bit Windows 7" under "Support Bulletin"

    Hi
First of all it would be interesting to know which BSOD code you get exactly. Can you post this useful information? Normally on the Microsoft Knowledge Base you can find additional informations about the most BSOD codes and so you can start to fix this issue.
BSOD are often related to drivers or RAM/HDD. Latter you can check with special diagnostic tools, Memtest86 for RAM and Drive Fitness Test for HDD. Both tools are freeware and you can find it by using Google. You can download an iso image of them to create a bootable media where you can start the test.
Regarding your BIOS update: I dont know which L300D you have exactly but according the Toshiba website it shows a BIOS update also for Windows 7 64bit. You can try to install it.

  • Satellite L300 laptop won't load Windows

I have a Satellite L300 model number PSLB0A-00L022 running windows Vista.
The problem is that it won't load Windows. It starts ok and I can access the boot manager and the setup utility and that's it. It just stops loading.
After researching the problem I ran a drive fitness test and the result was error code 0x70. After looking up the code Im under the impression that I need to erase the disk. I have no problem with that.
My question is - if I run the windows recovery wizard will it fix my problem? Will I have to re install vista at all? Any advice is appreciated!!

Hello Jane and welcome in Toshiba forum
After reading your posting I must say that best and easiest solution for you is to reinstall operating system using original Toshiba recovery DVD. This DVD contains operating system, all necessary drivers, Toshiba specific tools and utilities. After recovery image installation you will have out-of-box state and clean preinstalled OS.
Yes, this should fix your problem. Please note: when you do this all saved data will be deleted.
Do you have some important data saved on your notebook?
If not use this disc reinstall Vista and everything should be ok again.

  • Satellite L300 - can headphone and speakers work simultaneously?

I have a Satellite L300 with self-installed Windows XP (Realtek Sound Driver 5.10.0.5559 from Toshiba website).
Plugging the headphones turns the speakers off. I want that speakers and headphones working simultaneously. What can I do? Thank you for help.
    Sincerely H. Reinhold

    Thank you for your answer.
    1. I think, it is not a "mechanism in the headphone jack", because if I plug the Headphone, the speakers turn off not immediately but a short time later. So I think it must be a software action.
    2. "But why do you want to have both of them working simultaneously?"
I want to trigger an electronic control when a sound signal is starting and parallel I will hear the sound. If the headphone speaker switching would be a software action, I need no external speakers, as you have suggested. A change in the configuration is always the most elegant solution. That's why my asking.

  • Satellite L300-055 won't boot windows

    Hi,
I have a satellite L300-055 laptop that fails to boot up.
I shut it down one night and the next time I turned it on it wouldn't boot.  It goes to a black screen with the following error message.
    \Boot\BCD
    Status OxcOOOOOOf
An error occured while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
It asks me for a recovery disk, but stupidly I didn't make one.  Is there anything that can be done to recover the system?
    Any help would be appreciated!

If you can reach the recovery environment, Jen, there are lots of things to try.
Turn the computer on and immediately press and hold the F8 key.
On the Advanced Boot Options menu, choose Repair Your Computer.
When you reach the System Recovery Options menu (the recovery environment), choose Startup Repair.
If that doesn't do the trick, go back to the System Recovery Options menu and do a System Restore.
Let us know how it goes.

  • Can I upgrade to windows 8.1 pro from enterprise evaluation?

I recently downloaded the enterprise evaluation, and now the trial is coming to its end. Can I upgrade using a product key, or do I need to do it via disc?

I'm sorry to say, absolutely NOT.
You must install a new OS afresh, there is NO WAY to upgrade the Enterprise Evaluation version to anything in line.  The information provided where you downloaded the software says as much.
    From this page:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/hh699156.aspx :
Following the evaluation period, you will need to replace the operating system on your test computer and reinstall all your programs and data. It is not possible to upgrade the evaluation to a licensed working version of Windows 8.1 Enterprise. A clean installation
    is required.

  • Satellite L300 - Can I replace the battery?

    Hello,
I need your help. I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 and I have a problem with the battery, it discharges in a short period. The battery model no. is pa3534u-1brs. I wonder if I can replace this battery with other one that lasts more than 2 hours.
Do you know any thing about that?
    Can you help?
    Thanx in advance.

    Hi
Of course you can replace the battery Why not?
You can replace the battery with the same one or another one that is compatible with your notebook.
I would recommend contacting your local authorized service provider. The technicians recommend a battery to you.
Alternative you search on the Toshiba page for compatible batteries. Just few clicks you have to make! ;)

  • Can I upgrade to Windows 8 on my current Windows 7 partition that's using boot camp?

I have an iso image of the OS (enterprise) and I started the installation process and it asked me if I wanted to do an upgrade or an advanced custom install. Has anyone tried this yet?
One time I installed a windows update and it formatted my OS X partition as NTFS and I lost everything, so I'm trying to avoid that, but I'd really like to use Windows 8.  Thanks!

I recommend you to wait until Apple launches Windows 8 drivers for Apple Boot Camp. Boot Camp isn't compatible with Windows 8 at this moment, but the required drivers will be launched soon. When Apple launches the Windows 8 drivers, just insert the Windows disc in Windows 7 and upgrade your Windows. If you're going to do a clean install, make a backup before upgrading the Windows version

  • Satellite L300-14G - Want to install Windows 7 32 bit

    Can anyone help?
I have a Satellite L 300-14G with a terrible copy of windows 7 on it (unable to update occasionally, validation issues, etc.).
I think It still has the vista recovery partition on the HDD (its a 1.46GB OEM Healthy Partition) but because its running Win 7 I can't access it.
Everytime i try to go into the diagnostic (safe mode option) there's no option for a factory restore i've tried holding '0' whilst powering up but nothing.
I really want Win 7 32 bit on it & i was hoping there is some sort of Toshiba Win 7 32 bit installation disc similar to what Dell use (that says Dell on the disc) that only works on Toshiba PC's for a fresh, clean install.
    Can anyone help?
    Message was edited by: milkyjoe

After clean OS installation, in your case Win7, recovery option will disappear and you will not be able to use recovery installation option. Generally speaking your saved recovery image is useless now.
Joe is right. If you want to have original recovery disc you can order Vista OS only. All you can do is to install clean Win7 option using Microsoft disc. All drivers, tools and utilities you can find on Toshiba download page - http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
Long time ago Ive installed Win7 32bit on friends L300 and it runs perfectly.
Important info: if you will decide to install on version you must buy new licence. Product key at the bottom of your notebook cannot be used for OS activation.
