Satellite L300 - Disk.sys error on Windows start up

I got my recovery disk today inserted and after a couple of reboots I managed to to get the Advanced menu F8. I selected option for Safe Mode with command prompt. The window started to load various windows drivers etc. It has now stopped at the line of code with a please wait and has been like this for over 2hours.
Loaded: \windows\system32\drivers\disk.sys
I booted up in VGA mode same
I tried last known good configuration no joy.
what's left for me to do it is obvious that I have a bad driver how do I interrupt the command prompt and run chdisk or check for corrupt drivers etc.
If I have to reload the OS can this be downloaded from microsoft or is it chargeable.
If anyone has any new ideas I would be very grateful need to get this sorted.
thanks
Franco

Hi TwoLags,
as you can see from the paper trail I originally could not get into advanced mode the forum suggested I purchased a recovery disk . The disk now allows me to get into F8 and advanced mode if I choose safe mode it scrolls through all the drivers but halts at \windows\system32\drivers\disk.sys with a please wait message in the windows bar.
I have tried booting up in safe mode with cmd prompt same, last known good config dark screen?.
My question is what happens next am I looking at a complete OS reinstall which I don't have windows vista home premium edition 32 bit.
Surely there must be a way of intreput the safe mose cmd and run a disk check to repair any corrupted files etc.
cheers
Frank

  • Satellite L300 - Disk read error so I can't start Vista

    Please can you help?
Have a Toshiba Satellite L300. All i am getting is Disk Read Error occured, please press Ctrl Alt + Delete.
How can I get it to boot up again. I havent a clue what to do next just keep pressing Ctrl Alt + Delete and it says a Disk read error occurred.
I'm going round in circles in. Running Windows Vista Premium.

    Hi!
Can you access the advanced boot menu if you press F8 after you have started the notebook? Then you could start the Toshiba HDD recovery option (select repair my computer).
If you cant access the advanced boot menu you have to reinstall Windows Vista. Therefore you can use the Toshiba recovery disk if you boot from it.

  • Satellite A300-276 - nvraid.sys error on Windows start

    Good evening,
I am recently trying to install Windows 7 in my Satellite A300-276. I actually install it but when I want to start it apears a message saying:
"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix (...)"
and then, in the same page:
    "File:\Windows\system32\Drivers\nvraid.sys"
    "Status:0xc0000098"
"Info: Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt"
Could someone help me with this?
    Thank you very much.
    Best regards,

I have installed Win7 32bit on my Satellite A300-1LI and on P300D successfully and it runs perfectly.
I don't have time to read the whole thread but what I sugesst you is to install Win7 32bit again and all other stuff following my installations order. It worked for me so I think it should be ok for you too.
    Here we go:
    Satellite A300 (PSAG8E) and clean Win7
    -Win7
    -chipset driver
    -storage manager
    -display driver
    -sound driver
    -modem driver
    -supervisor utility
    -infrared
    -patches
    -configfree
    -VAP
    -toshiba hardware setup
    -HDMI control
    -WLAN driver
Everything runs well but some Win7 drivers were missing so I have installed follow Vista stuff.

    -Card reader - installed properly
-Webcam driver for A500 - tested with Skype - work properly.
    -Synaptics driver

  • Satellite Pro L300 - Disk Read Error

    Hey, Lee here.
I'm currently having problems with my Satellite Pro L300,
Everytime I try and boot it up, it will come up with a 'Disk Read Error, Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to Reboot' this has been happening for a while, and i've tried using the Recovery Console with the 'FIXBOOT' command, but this isn't working, due to the fact that there is no OS installed. I've tried re-installing Windows Vista Ultimate, but it keeps giving me an error. Any help?

To test the hard drive determine what brand of hard drive you have.  You can check the Bios/Setup to find out or run SIW or Belarc Advisor.  Go to that manufacturer's support site and download their Self Booting Diagnostic CD ISO image, create the CD using the Burn From Image option (see http://iso.snoekonline.com/iso.htm for more information on doing this), then boot to it and run the most exhaustive tests available.  If you have a Toshiba drive you will need to use the Hitachi Drive Fitness Test as Toshiba doesn't supply their own. http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Satellite L300 laptop won't load Windows

I have a Satellite L300 model number PSLB0A-00L022 running windows Vista.
The problem is that it won't load Windows. It starts ok and I can access the boot manager and the setup utility and that's it. It just stops loading.
After researching the problem I ran a drive fitness test and the result was error code 0x70. After looking up the code Im under the impression that I need to erase the disk. I have no problem with that.
My question is - if I run the windows recovery wizard will it fix my problem? Will I have to re install vista at all? Any advice is appreciated!!

Hello Jane and welcome in Toshiba forum
After reading your posting I must say that best and easiest solution for you is to reinstall operating system using original Toshiba recovery DVD. This DVD contains operating system, all necessary drivers, Toshiba specific tools and utilities. After recovery image installation you will have out-of-box state and clean preinstalled OS.
Yes, this should fix your problem. Please note: when you do this all saved data will be deleted.
Do you have some important data saved on your notebook?
If not use this disc reinstall Vista and everything should be ok again.

  • Satellite L355 disk read error/no safe mode

I have a Satellite L355 with Windows Vista. When I start my computer, it says "Disk read error, press crtl alt delete to restart".
I do not have the recovery disk, but I did buy the Ultimate Boot CD. I have tried everything on there with no luck. It also will not let me start in safe mode. I press F8 at startup and it goes to a black screen with an underscore, and that's it.
Any ideas would be helpful, I've tried and searched everywhere. Thanks.

I don't know where do you live and it is not easy to send you some webpage if you don't understand what is written there. The fact is you need 2,5 250 GB SATA hard disc.
How to replace the HDD you can see step 1 and step 2 .

  • Satellite L300-055 won't boot windows

    Hi,
I have a satellite L300-055 laptop that fails to boot up.
I shut it down one night and the next time I turned it on it wouldn't boot.  It goes to a black screen with the following error message.
    \Boot\BCD
    Status OxcOOOOOOf
An error occured while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
It asks me for a recovery disk, but stupidly I didn't make one.  Is there anything that can be done to recover the system?
    Any help would be appreciated!

If you can reach the recovery environment, Jen, there are lots of things to try.
Turn the computer on and immediately press and hold the F8 key.
On the Advanced Boot Options menu, choose Repair Your Computer.
When you reach the System Recovery Options menu (the recovery environment), choose Startup Repair.
If that doesn't do the trick, go back to the System Recovery Options menu and do a System Restore.
Let us know how it goes.

Hi, I have a problem with a 2007 Macbook Pro that refuses to boot the Windows 7 Installer. • Satellite L300-135 not booting into windows!

bought it about 2 years ago everything worked perfectly until today where it's even unable to boot into windows vista...I just turn it on when the windows loading bar is loading then it shows blue screen for 0.1 sec and it resets itself... even the safe mode wouldn't start and restore mode (last good known config) couldn't help it to start...i tried using an ubuntu linux live cd to save my datas but couldn't boot either, gave an error stating something as abnormal.
    so where's the problem ?
Windows boot manager tried to find the problem and is telling me this:
    status: 0xc00000e9
info: An unexpected I/O error has occured.

    > so where's the problem ?
Who knows??? Do you think its so easy to say whats exactly wrong without running any tests???
Maybe its just a software issue but a hardware issue (RAM, motherboard, etc..) can be possible too.
As I understood your message, you want to access the data and to backup the necessary files
Well, the Toshiba recovery disk would format the whole HDD therefore you should backup the data before usage of recovery disk.
You could remove the HDD from the notebook and could connect it to another computer using an external USB HDD case.
After backup, you could use the recovery disk to reinstall the Windows.

  • Satellite L300 - Can't upgrade to Windows 7

Attempted to upgrade my Satellite L300 laptop (running Office Home and Student 2007) and got as far as the final Driver installation "Realtek High definition Audio Driver 6.0.1.5904" at which point the upgrade froze, so I could not progress to inserting the Windows 7 Home Premium DVD. I managed to reboot after some difficulty and then Restored my system to the pre-upgrade point.
When I now insert the Toshiba Upgrade DVD, I am confronted with the screen relating only to the Realtek driver upgrade.
Any suggestions how to get passed this hurdle. My computer is still functioning on Vista

    Hi
Have you already tried to update the sound driver yourself? Please try to download and install the latest Realtek driver from the Realtek Homepage. Install the new driver and reboot the notebook. Now you can try to upgrade again.
Otherwise follow the instructions posted by Akuma.
But I must say sometimes the drivers must be update before you can upgrade to Windows 7 and by the way, maybe this is useful for you:

  • Satellite Pro C650, Boots OK, after Windows starts up the screen goes white

    Hi,
    I have a Satellite Pro C650.
    It boot fine.
I can see Windows starting up - after startup - the screen goes completely white.
    Has anyone seen this?
Am geussing it might be a loose display connection - but I the screen displays the startup sequence and initial windows startup.
    Regards,
    eeiddne

    Hi
I dont think your display is faulty.
What happens if you access the BIOS at the beginning?
To access the BIOS press F2 while powering on the unit.
Access the BIOS and keep it running for some minutes and check if the display will turn to white.
Additionally its advisable to connect an external monitor and to output the display to the 2nd screen. If the 2nd screen would not be OK, then the graphic chip might be the troublemaker.

  • Nvraid.sys error on Windows 7 bootcamp install

Hello everyone. I have a 27inch i7 imac, and am trying to install the 64 bit version of Windows 7 Ultimate on a bootcamp partition. When I try to install windows 7 it goes through the installation process, and upon the reboot where it attempts to load windows for the first time I get an error message saying that nvraid.sys is not present or corrupt.
Has anyone else seen this issue or know how to resolve it? I installed windows 7 into a virtual machine just fine on the imac so it's not the disc I have. I followed the instructions exactly from the apple site, including putting the display drivers on a usb drive. I have no external devices other than the mouse connected. The keyboard is wireless, but none of that should matter since the issue is with what appears to be a raid driver.
I have tried all the obvious stuff like starting over from scratch, installing on a different system to ensure the disc is fine etc. If you can help or point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Thanks.

well, there are threads in here about what issues there are, and to uninstall and delete the nvidia drivers, esp the ones from apple, but you never got that far.
And then to download and install the latest Catalyst driver.
Boot camp, Windows is running natively on its own partition.
The Assistant just partitions. Apple confuses the matter and in their docs, and there is a control panel added to Windows from your OS X DVD along with drivers and services. But you are simple running Windows. But unlike a VM that runs under OS X.

  • Satellite Pro A300-1GT - Error message when starting webcam

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300-1GT. The problem is that the camera does not work. When I start software it writes that I should restart camera or computer. I'm having Windows 7 and I serched the internet for solutions but I find just a discusions with the same problem without solutions.
    Sory for may bad English.

    Hi
The cam is not listed in device manager; neither as unknown device nor as USB device?
Well, I read here in the forum that internal webcam is connected to the USB controller on the motherboard and sometimes the connection is loose and therefore the cam cannot be recognized by system.
I think in such case the notebook needs to be disassembled and the connection should be checked. But this seems to be a job for technicians

  • Satellite L300 - Vista update error 8007007A

I am using Toshiba L300 laptop with Windows Vista home premium loaded in the system while purchase.
I found Vista Update through Windows update. I have tried to install it, but while installation i got a error message 8007007A.
Can anyone help me to fix it?

    Hi
I found out that the 8007007A error means.
    Its Insufficient Buffer issue.
Someone suggested that the windows update is probably set to "automatic".
There are probably too many updates or a large one like a service pack.
If you dont have a SP1 installed then you could download it manually and then could try to install it.
Then try to install further Vista updates!
    Good luck

  • Satellite L300-14G - Want to install Windows 7 32 bit

    Can anyone help?
I have a Satellite L 300-14G with a terrible copy of windows 7 on it (unable to update occasionally, validation issues, etc.).
I think It still has the vista recovery partition on the HDD (its a 1.46GB OEM Healthy Partition) but because its running Win 7 I can't access it.
Everytime i try to go into the diagnostic (safe mode option) there's no option for a factory restore i've tried holding '0' whilst powering up but nothing.
I really want Win 7 32 bit on it & i was hoping there is some sort of Toshiba Win 7 32 bit installation disc similar to what Dell use (that says Dell on the disc) that only works on Toshiba PC's for a fresh, clean install.
    Can anyone help?
    Message was edited by: milkyjoe

After clean OS installation, in your case Win7, recovery option will disappear and you will not be able to use recovery installation option. Generally speaking your saved recovery image is useless now.
Joe is right. If you want to have original recovery disc you can order Vista OS only. All you can do is to install clean Win7 option using Microsoft disc. All drivers, tools and utilities you can find on Toshiba download page - http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
Long time ago Ive installed Win7 32bit on friends L300 and it runs perfectly.
Important info: if you will decide to install on version you must buy new licence. Product key at the bottom of your notebook cannot be used for OS activation.
