Satellite L300 laptop won't load Windows

I have a Satellite L300 model number PSLB0A-00L022 running windows Vista.
The problem is that it won't load Windows. It starts ok and I can access the boot manager and the setup utility and that's it. It just stops loading.
After researching the problem I ran a drive fitness test and the result was error code 0x70. After looking up the code Im under the impression that I need to erase the disk. I have no problem with that.
My question is - if I run the windows recovery wizard will it fix my problem? Will I have to re install vista at all? Any advice is appreciated!!

Hello Jane and welcome in Toshiba forum
After reading your posting I must say that best and easiest solution for you is to reinstall operating system using original Toshiba recovery DVD. This DVD contains operating system, all necessary drivers, Toshiba specific tools and utilities. After recovery image installation you will have out-of-box state and clean preinstalled OS.
Yes, this should fix your problem. Please note: when you do this all saved data will be deleted.
Do you have some important data saved on your notebook?
If not use this disc reinstall Vista and everything should be ok again.

my Satellite M55-s3293 won't load windows xp.  I press the power button, the fan runs for a few seconds, than I see the toshiba screen and it freezes.  I get a message to press f2 to enter setup, f12 for boot device selection menu.  I've gone into both menu's, to no avail.
If I wait for a minute or so, I get a message saying that windows did not start sucessfully .  I have options to start in safe mod, last known good config, or normally.  I've tried each of those selections, but get the same frozen toshiba screen with message to select f2 or f12.  my cd drive will not open to allow me to try a recovery disk.
Do you have any suggestions for me please.
    Thanks

  • Toshiba Laptop won't load Windows 7

Just now, my Satellite P755D-S5266 part no. PSAZ1U-001002 froze up on me while in the middle of browsing the net. The system became completely unresponsive and I had to do a hard reset. Upon restart I was prompted to do a system startup repair, which did not come up with any problems. However, when I try to start up again, the laptop is stuck at the loading Windows screen. It won't let me load safe mode and the only option I have to actually do any recovery in general is right after the startup repair. Is there anything I can do about this?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Several things to try. Run the following at the command prompt.
       chkdsk c: /r
If you can't boot Windows after that, run Startup Repair again.
If it still doesn't boot, come back for more.

  • Satellite L300-055 won't boot windows

    Hi,
I have a satellite L300-055 laptop that fails to boot up.
I shut it down one night and the next time I turned it on it wouldn't boot.  It goes to a black screen with the following error message.
    \Boot\BCD
    Status OxcOOOOOOf
An error occured while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
It asks me for a recovery disk, but stupidly I didn't make one.  Is there anything that can be done to recover the system?
    Any help would be appreciated!

If you can reach the recovery environment, Jen, there are lots of things to try.
Turn the computer on and immediately press and hold the F8 key.
On the Advanced Boot Options menu, choose Repair Your Computer.
When you reach the System Recovery Options menu (the recovery environment), choose Startup Repair.
If that doesn't do the trick, go back to the System Recovery Options menu and do a System Restore.
Let us know how it goes.

  • Satellite L305-S5926 Won't Load Windows

My wife purchased her Satellite L305-S5926 in May and earlier today she closed it while not in use.  When she tried to use it later, it would obviously power up but nothing happened.  You could see that the LCD screen was powered up and the fan was running but nothing on the screen.  When I restart the computer the initial Toshiba screen loads and then the screen goes black.  From the Toshiba screen, I am able to access InsydeH20 (version 1.80) but beyond that, I can't do anything.  I've reset the default settings there and that's about all I know to do although it doesn't fix anything.  Is InsydeH20 the BIOS?  Can I do something from there to boot Windows?
Thanks in advance to any and all help

  • Re: Satellite L670D won't load windows

Hi, I have a toshiba L670D that recently had a windows update and since then, when ever I try to turn it on won't load windows, but just comes up with the error "fatal error c0000034 applying update operation 207 0f 102311 (_00000...)"
Is there anyway I can fix this myself, or is it a case of calling an expert or even going shopping for a new one?

Many thanks, but I cannot seem to open it in safe mode as it either tries to open in standard mode and fails with the error message or just goes into a self diagnostic mode and then comes up with a message to say that recently downloaded software cannot be loaded and to unplug it or call the system administrator.

  • Satellite L300 - Can't upgrade to Windows 7

Attempted to upgrade my Satellite L300 laptop (running Office Home and Student 2007) and got as far as the final Driver installation "Realtek High definition Audio Driver 6.0.1.5904" at which point the upgrade froze, so I could not progress to inserting the Windows 7 Home Premium DVD. I managed to reboot after some difficulty and then Restored my system to the pre-upgrade point.
When I now insert the Toshiba Upgrade DVD, I am confronted with the screen relating only to the Realtek driver upgrade.
Any suggestions how to get passed this hurdle. My computer is still functioning on Vista

    Hi
Have you already tried to update the sound driver yourself? Please try to download and install the latest Realtek driver from the Realtek Homepage. Install the new driver and reboot the notebook. Now you can try to upgrade again.
Otherwise follow the instructions posted by Akuma.
But I must say sometimes the drivers must be update before you can upgrade to Windows 7 and by the way, maybe this is useful for you:

All I can suggest is to reinstall Windows, see link below on how to order recovery media for your model. You will have to reinstall Ubuntu after using the recovery media so back up your files to an external drive. You can order HP recovery media below, or call HP on the phone to order 1-800-474-6836

    Hi
Please check in your graphic card settings if the option: Full Screen (no border) has been chosen.
This can be found in Aspect Ration Options.
Ive got a U400 with Intel graphic chip and this option is available there.
Furthermore some notebooks support an additional BIOS option where the screen could be set to full screen (no borders)

I had to install a new HD but it won't load Windows XP, says I need a Bios update.  how do I update the bios update without an operating system?  Lenovo site says to load update via windows.  Do NOT want Vista.  Any suggestions?????

    harix, welcome to the forum,
you do not state which notebook you have, this might be important. However, it may be that you just need to change your S-ATA settings in BIOS from AHCI to compatible mode.

  • Satellite M105 Won't load Windows desktop after factory recovery

Sorry this is a long post but I have to explain my situation.  I have a Satellite M105 that I purchased in the exchange on a US Military base in Germany in August 2008.  The laptop was an open box system that the store employee said had been sent in for repair.  I was told it came with the full factory warranty.  I had the sales person start the laptop just to make sure it worked and the laptop booted to the Windows XP initial setup screen.  I took the laptop home and put it away as I wanted to save it as a gift for a family member.  A few days before I was going to pack the gift laptop up to mail it, I decided to try it out.  I powered the laptop up and went through the Windows XP setup sequence to agree to the EULA and set up automatic updates.  When the setup was completed the laptop restarted and started to load XP.  Before the desktop loaded a BSOD flashed momentarily and the computer restarted.  Now every time I attempt to start the laptop I get a Windows message "The system was not fully installed.  Please run setup again."  I returned the laptop to the store and they sent it in for repair under warranty in April 2009.  I got the laptop back on Oct 5 2009 with a letter that stated the laptop was not under warranty and the hard drive was defective and the repair cost would be 140Euro (approx $210).  When I purchased the laptop I was told the laptop had been sent in for a "start up " problem but it had been repaired and fully tested.  I replaced the hard drive today and used the recovery disks to restore the system but guess what.  I got the same error message with the new hard drive.  I suspect the laptop had a defective motherboard all along but the Toshiba Authorized Repair Center doesn't want to admit they never fixed it correctly the first time.  Anyone here have any suggestions?

    Hello
Your story is pretty confusing. It is full of different information but we dont know which operating system do you use and has your notebook factory settings or not.
Is there some reason why your notebook acts so strange? Have you done anything that can be responsible for this? Can you start OS or not.
    >... sometimes get "program cannot start press ok to turn off the computer".
How to understand sometimes? Which program? What happen when you press power button?
Sorry but I dont know how to understand all this and start with discussion.
Missing F8 option is also very confusing.
Try please to set BIOS to default settings and try to start OS again.

  • Satellite L300-139 won't boot

    Hello!
I got a "Satellite L300-139" a couple of years ago. It came with windows vista but no recovery cd (hence, i guess there should be a recovery partition in there?). I do not have a recovery CD for it, probably shoudl have burnt one though I did not...
The problem is that it cannot start windows, or even find the Vista installation. So what I did was I tried to install windows XP Pro (already had original cd since earlier). But it seems that installation won't work either, though at least it can be seen in advanced booting alternatives.
I have read about pressing F8, 0, et.c. and form there choose recovery/repair but there is no such option on the screen. I can choose "Safe mode", "Safe mode w command line", ... , "Start Windows normally" , "Use the latest working configuration" and those usual ones et.c but no option about resetting/restoring/recovery.
So, what happens when I choose any alternative is that I get to choose in the list of OS:s, which contains only windows xp.
Upon choosing this, either it tries to continue installaion of windows xp and I ahve to restart it, or bluescreen stop0x0000007B which has to do with faulty installation.
It seems the installation of XP did not work out very well, but shouldn't Vistra be visible as an option in the list of OS:s? Is it possible to reset my laptop to factory settings (or some other kind of reset/recover to make it work properly again)?
Is buying a recovery CD likely to fix this? Buying a 30+ euro CD to fix a 3-4 year old 300 euro laptop seems kind of expensive if it may not even help...
Any downloads or suggestions at all?
    Any help is appreciated!
    thx in advance!

Yours would appear to be a European model, perhaps from Denmark:

Yes, it would seem that your HDD drive did contain a recovery partition. You can read up on this on page 3-8 (56) of your L300 Series User Guide, that I have attached to this post, and how you could have made a set of recovery disks on page 3-9 (57). However, after the XP installation attempt, if not before, you have may well have deleted or corrupted your recovery partition.
If you can no longer run the recovery utility from the hard drive, I would strongly recommend paying put for the recovery disks. Running these will return your unit to its factory default, out-of-the-box state, install all Toshiba drivers and utilities, and originally installed software. In addition, it will rebuild your HDD's recovery partition. This will save you a lot of grief in trying to manually reconstruct your system in Vista or XP.

But, it's up to you. Let us know what you decide, and if you need anymore help.

  • My laptop won't boot Windows

I have a Toshiba satellite P755-s5265 Windows 7. It's been acting strange for the last couple of months especially whenever I had a USB mouse or was using Chrome.  By strange I mean the mouse cursor will jump or stick and sometimes it would run slow even if the CPU usage and RAM were really low. One time, about a month ago, the whole system crashed and I got a blue screen. I restarted it and it started fine. I uppdated my drivers and switched to a different USB mouse. Everything was working fine until Saturday. On Saturday, it started doing the same thing again then crashed again. When I tried to restart it wouldn't start. I've tried everything to get it it restart including safe mode etc. Nothing has worked.
I got some advice to save my files before resetting it. I loaded ubuntu (for the purpose of saving my files) from a disk and it runs ubuntu with no problems. I can even connect to the intenet. I haven't been able to save my files but that just comes with my lack of knowledgde of ubuntu I guess. But, it still won't run Windows. I've tried to load it from the Windows restore disks and it won't load. I read somewhere that they had to be "bootable" but I don't really know how to do that. I tried to make a bootable disk with IMGBurn but I don't which files to use or how to do it.
Right now, if I try to start it, I get a blank black screen with nothing visible except the cursor.
I've tried every option under F8 and get either the same black screen or a black screen that says "BOOTMGR missing"
I've tried the HDD recovery command under F12 and get the same blank screen.
I think I've switched every optiom on the Bios menu and gotten no real change.
If I hold down the 0 button I get  "BOOTMGR missing"
I would be fine with resetting the laptop if it would just work. There isn't really anything THAT important on there. I just need it to work and I can't use ubuntu for what I need it for.

  • Satellite L645D-S4040 won't load login screen?

This morning when I tried to login to my computer it gave me a blue screen. It went away before I could finish reading it, but it said something along the lines of "BIOS system update...corrupt files...". On June 2nd, my computer went through a system update. It was fine all day yesterday. I read online that I should do a system restore, so I started my computer in safe mode and did a restore to before the 2nd. The computer restored itself, but now it won't load past the screen where it gives me the option to start in Normal Mode or Safe Mode. When I select either of these it just goes to a blank black screen. I've tried hitting F8 repeatedly, yet it just bring me to the same start up screen where I choose how I want to start the computer. It will not load in any mode that I select. My computer has never had any problems, and is just over a year old. Unfortunately for me, warranty just ended 2 months ago. The trackpad is working properly, so are the LED lights, sound, fan, and all that other stuff, it just refuses to load the login screen on any mode, including Safe Mode. When it comes up to this blank black screen, I can hear the fan go from running to slowly slowing down as if the computer is not being used. Computer experts, what do I do?
I have read that I should just wipe the entire hard drive. However, I know that in order to do that, I need the Windows Installation disk, and my computer didn't come with one. Is this something that I can buy? If so, how much is it to get the hard drive wiped and purchase the Windows Installation disk?

Be sure to disconnect any attached devices.
The following procedure will enable you to read the blue screen. Tell us what the STOP error is and any file names you see there.
Turn the computer on and immediately press and hold the F8 key. On the Advanced Boot Options menu, choose Disable automatic restart on system failure.
