Satellite L300D-13S Realtek 8187b - Downgraded to vista, no networks found!

Ok, laptop is L300D-13S, the WLAN adapter is identified correct, as USB 2.0.
Vista was on the laptop, but I immediately wiped it and put XP on, as Toshiba should have really done in the first place. The Toshiba driver can be downloaded from the Toshiba website. This installs.
Once everything is setup, using XP Wireless Zero in-built uility, a bubble appears in the system tray stating "One or more wireless networks are available..." etc.
However when you open XP WLAN utility, no networks are ever found. Power-management has been tried in various forms, the switch is on, and the FN+F8 key does not affect the ability to basically never find a wireless network. There is something wrong somewhere.
The drivers from www.realtek.com.tw do not work for this card in this Toshiba laptop - it is stated that the hardware is not compatible. However, as mentioned, the Toshiba website drivers install, but do not find any wireless networks.
I have used NetStumbler - this uses a default basis NDIS driver when the application loads, and finds networks. It is just a 'network sniffer' for WLAN, so cannot use this to connect.
It can't just be me experiencing this problem surely? I have tried most things related to uninstalling/reinstalling the Toshiba website drivers, which specifically say they are compatible with XP. Any help is appreciated. I am very much WLAN literate, and have tried everything I can think of - although it should be said I have not dismantled the laptop and removed/replaced the card yet.

Hello.
For the L300D-13S the latest bios is described as 1.2 - however the current BIOS firmware is 1.3 was the pre-installed version. The BIOS application that is available from Toshiba by default is a commonly used application to upgrade the BIOS will work on XP or VISTA. The message provided by the BIOS will not be affected by which operating system is installed.
You cannot downgrade BIOS it would seem, there is some setting either the existing BIOS, or the BIOS installation software that prevents this happening.
May I ask what you mean by 'upgrade the BIOS'? It would technically be a downgrade to BIOS version 1.2 if it is currently 1.3. The Toshiba website driver for the realtek does not work correctly with the pre-installed BIOS, which is version 1.3.
For this L300D-13S AMD model there is only listed 1.20-WIN - however I've noticed for another model, 1.5-WIN is available. Done a quick test and 1.5-WIN does not work, and it's not possible to downgrade to 1.20-WIN, for the reasons mentioned above.
I may try use another BIOS firmware installation tool. The realtek Toshiba-website drivers categorically do NOT work for this wireless card. Very few people use Vista, as it's rubbish compared to the proven simplicity of Windows XP. Not happy about this lack of compatibility for a seemingly XP-compatible product.
Why will the realtek driver on the realtek website not work, that is my major question! This realtek website driver simply states 'no compatible hardware found' - whereas the Toshiba website drivers installs, but as mentioned previously, does not find any wireless networks ever.
Many thanks.

  • Cannot connect to wireless on Satellite L300D-13S

Bought this new laptop Satellite L300D-13S
The wireless doesn't seem to work, the switch and light are on and the divice manger shows theres nothing wrong with the driver my hub seems to be working fine with my older laptop etc so i think my hubs ok. Is this a commen problem?
Its a BT home Hub if that helps and if i use the cable from the hub to the laptop it works fine and conects up with out a problem, please help

    Hello,
To connect your notebook to the router wirelessly should not be big problem. The principle on all Toshiba notebooks is the same.
At first be sure the WLAN card is installed properly. The status can be checked in device manager.
Be sure the WLAN card is also enabled properly Move the WLAN switch to ON position (WLAN LED must be ON). After doing this use FN+F8 key combination and be sure option ON is chosen.
So now the WLAN card should be enabled properly.
Click on START > Connect To and Connect to a network window will be shown. On the right side click on refresh button and hopefully available WLANs will be listed. If your favourite WLAN is listed there click on it and then on Connect button. On the next step enter WLAN key (if the network is encrypted) and you should have connect to the router.
If the WLAN is not visible then it can be because of false settings on the router. If your router is not so old check WLAN settings there and enable automatic mode (data transfer speed). Maybe your old notebook has WLAN card A/B and new one runs on G (54 MBit/s transfer speed). Be sure this mode is enabled too.

  • Satellite L300D-13S - How can i restore with corrupt disk 2

The laptop is a Satellite L300D-13s.
I tried to restore the laptop using the restore disks, the first disk worked fine but it did not recognize the second disk. No matter what I did I could not get it to read this disk.
I then tried to us the F8 option to restore the drive but I got the message Bootmgr missing. I have tried F8 using the DVD but this does not have a restore option.
Using the boot option with logging I did manage to access the E drive and view the HDDRecovery directory but could not find anything that would allow me to run a restore.
Is there an option to do a restore this way, or can I restore another way?
Your help would be gratefully appreciated.

    Hello
Recovering procedure can be done on two ways:
    -Using recovery CD/DVDs or
    -Starting recovery procedure from HDD
If there is problem with created discs then you must try to use option two. It works as follow:
-Start your notebook and press F8 to enter Advanced Boot Options
-There you will see option Repair my computer
-Choose this option and follow menu on the screen.
-Then you will come across System Recovery options
-The last option is Toshiba recovery procedure. Choose it and follow menu on the screen.
Please note: this will work if you didnt change partition structure, installed own OS or removed HDDRecovery folder.
At the end I must say, if nothing helps and if you are not able to install OS using any of these methods I see one solution only: you must order new recovery DVD.

  • Re: Satellite L300D-13S - WLan doesn't work using Vista

I have a L300D-13S which came with Visa Home Premium on it.
Its working fine APART from the wireless which refuses to work.
I always get "Wireless association failed because Windows did not receive any response from the wireless router or access point"
The wiresless is a Realtek RTL8187B Wireless 802.11b/g 54Mbps USB 2.0 Network Adapter
I'm running the latest BIOS and the 6.1148.924.2008 Drivers dated 24/09/2008. If I use the latest drivers from the RealTek site I get a message about an unknown error.
If I use the Ethernet NIC then it gets an IP address fine so its not the Broadcast Flag Issue.
Its not wireless security (I understand Vista does not support 128Bit WEP). I've turned it off and it still does it.
Other Laptops running XP connect fine and this laptop connects fine using no security or WEP or WAP if I boot into Linux.
So the problem obviously lies with Vista and/or the Drivers.
    Has anyone solved this.
And no - Do not tell me to go out and buy a "Vista compatible" Router.
If Vista Does not work with a router that XP and Other operating systems work with then Vista is flawed.

It only occurs with the WLAN. If I plug into the back of the router with a cable then everything is totally solid. I get DHCP from the router and everything is fine. It is only the wireless that does it.
Oddly enough it used to work. When I first powered the machine on it saw the network and connected and everything was fine until I rebooted when it decided not to work any more. I thought it was something I had done so as I'd not really done much with the machine I did a recovery on it and again it worked again fine (I downloaded a few 100MB of downloads). Then rebooted and the wireless was broken again which is why I think its Vista and not my router.
Its not even making it through to the router to get an IP address on the wireless - it never even sees it.

  • Satellite L300D-13S - CD/DVD drive does not close properly

    Hi,
I have the L300D-13S about one week.
Today and for a short while last Sunday the DVD drawer will not stay closed.
I have restarted a few times and tried putting discs in but it still ejects and doesn't read the discs.
I installed Norton 360 Version 2.0 the day I got it, I really don't know a lot about computers and I am hoping it's simple enough.
I have checked the control panel and checked all the settings and they all seem fine.
    I'd appreciate any help.
    Thanks.

    Hi
In my opinion its a mechanical CD/DVD drive problem and you should contact the ASP in your country for a check.
I mean your warranty must be valid because this notebook does not seem to be old.
So ask the ASP and maybe the CD/DVD drive must be replaced.
    Bye

  • Satellite L300D-13S crashed and will not boot up

I received an alert on my Toshiba L300D -13S via the Toshiba Tempro alerts to download the latest BIOS update. I downloaded the update and started the install, during the install the PC crashed and froze for about 30 seconds the lost power completely.
Since this the laptop will not boot up, there is power to it as the battery and plug lights are on also when I press the power button the fan starts and the keyboard lights flash but then nothing. The laptop does nothing the fan runs for a short while and then powers off.
I'm no expert but in my opinion there must be something seriously wrong with it, any advice would be greatly appreciated. The laptop is still under warranty so as soon as I get some kind of confirmation that this a serious problem I can send it off for repair.

I contacted Toshiba's helpline and spoke to some one in the tech department, they said that the BIOS was corrupted during the update hence the problem with the start up.
Apparently this is not good and could result in a new motherboard if the BIOS cannot be flashed back to a non-corrupt state. I'm not overly technical when it comes to PC's, fortunately my laptop is still under warranty and is in the Toshiba repair centre as week speak. I did however research possible repairs for this fault and from reading forum posts as searched for on Google there are some things that you can try although they can be risky in terms of causing further damage.
The most eligible possible fix that I seemed to come across was to download a DOS boot file, the relevant BIOS file and a flash program, burn them to a CD then boot the laptop into DOS and run the flash program, re-flashing the BIOS.
**Again as stated before I'm no expert so please don't take the above as gospel, I'd look into it and make sure you get expert advice before going down this road.**

  • Satellite L300D - how to recover Vista without loosing data partition?

    Satellite L300D-22K
    Cdigo : PSLC8E-05500CCE
    windows vista (home premium)
HDD has two (visible) partitions :
    - C:(Vista)
    - D: (Datos)
after installing avast antivirus boot takes 20 minutes (corrupt File?, defective HDD?)
Moved all my personal archives to partition D:
Not sure if I can create bootable recovery dvds (system is unstable)
1 *Id like to reinstall vista without formatting D partition* (where my data is)
Find this guide for HDD recovery procedure
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm
    What steps should I follow?
2 If HDD is defective, how can I re-install supplied OS (vista) to a new HDD ?
3 Unrelated to the above, can I update to Windows 7 (clean install)
    32 or 64bit version?

    Hi
I will try to help you.
    > 1 Id like to reinstall vista without formatting D partition (where my data is)
    >Find this guide for HDD recovery procedure
    >http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm
    >What steps should I follow?
As far as I know on second HDD partition in folder HDDRecovery is saved recovery image. When you start HDD recovery installation (F8 at start-up) recovery image from partition D will be installed on partition C. In this case partition D will not be deleted. Just partition C will be formatted before recovery image installation starts.
Just use F8 option and go to repair my computer. Just follow menu on the screen and choose option Recovery of factory default software.
    > 2 If HDD is defective, how can I re-install supplied OS (vista) to a new HDD ?
After reading this question I see you didnt read users manuals document. You should create recovery media (recovery DVD) and this recovery DVD you can use for recovery image installation if there is some problem with HDD or you want to install original recovery image on new HDD.
    > 3 Unrelated to the above, can I update to Windows 7 (clean install) 32 or 64bit version?
Of course you can do this. Visit please Toshiba download page on http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp and check if all drivers, tools and utilities are available there. Of course before you do this, create recovery DVD.
If you have more questions you are welcome.

  • Satellite L300D not booting up

I have a Toshiba Satellite L300D-13S model no PSLC8E-02p013e with Vista.
I experienced trouble with it booting up from sleep mode and had to press the off button to power down 2or3 times to get it to boot up, I decided perhaps a recent up-date might be causing the problem, so did a system restore back 3 days, this had no effect with the same booting up issues so I did a 2nd restore back a week and left the laptop to it, I came back to it 1 hour later and found it won't boot at all.
I have tried taking the battery out and power lead but to no avail, have taken it to my local PC shop - he belives the mother board has gone down but I think he does't really know and is keen to sell me a new one - no suprise there! anybody with some advice will be gratefully recieved.
    Many thanks Gary

    Hi buddy,
    > he belives the mother board has gone down
I agree with the repair shop. If the computer doesnt boot even you have taken the battery out it seems to be a hardware (mainboard) malfunction and you can nothing expect exchanging the board.
But probably it would be better buying a new notebook because mainboard is a very expensive part. If you buy a new notebook you also have a new completely new computer with warranty again. ;)

  • Satellite L300D-21P - Installation of Windows Vista 32bit failed

    Hi!
I have recently bought a Toshiba Satellite L300D-21P and now I wanted to install Windows Vista Business 32bit.
But the installation always stops at the point where the screen says "Completing installation ... ".
Do you have any idea what I have to do to solve this problem?
Thank you very much for your answers!
    Greetz
    Stefan

If you are using the Toshiba Recovery disk then you dont need to install SATA drivers.
If you are using Microsoft disk then you will need the SATA drivers.
But if the error message says that the installation is complete then the HDD has been recognized properly and you should not need the SATA drivers in such case.
    > From where do I get the SATA-drivers?
It looks like your notebook supports AMD CPU and ATI chipset.
Graphic card driver contains the chipset driver and the necessary SATA drivers.
The graphic card driver contains the different folder and the drivers are placed in folder:
    Packages\Drivers\SBDrv\Filter\NB

  • Vista on Satellite L300D-10A - Graphics card resetted after renstallation

    This is my story.
A few weeks ago my computer had crashed, so I decided to renstall Vista (Home Premium). After I did so, I noticed a lot of things had changed. For example, my screensaver didn't work anymore, and certain programs said they needed a video card wih 3D support. I knew i had a video card with 3d support, as these programs worked fine before the renstallation.
Then I looked around on the web, and I found more posts from people with the same problem, so I looked if I had an installation disk of the latest video drive for my video card, but i haven't got one. So, now I ask if someone knows where I can get the latest version, so I can continue using these programs.

    Hello
Please don't understand me wrong but the whole story is somehow strange.
Fact is that every Toshiba notebook is delivered with factory state. Your notebook too and after first start you got default Toshiba settings. What you have done later nobody knows. Maybe you have installed some additional software and third part software. Who knows?
Now after clean OS installation you have these factory settings again and absolutely identical state after purchase and first start. this with screensaver is strange but it should work (Windows screensaver).
Software configuration of your notebook is not known to us and it is not easy to say what you are missing exactly.

  • Lost Vista drivers for Satellite L300D

I have a Satellite L300D model PSLC0E and just cleaned installed with Win 7 from vista, all ok so far but lost all my drivers from Vista and not sure what drivers I need for win 7.
I've had a look for the driver downloads, but not sure what to download and whats more important.

If you have done Win7 upgrade you don't need additional drivers.
Just if you want to make clean Win7 installation then you need all necessary drivers.
If you don't have problems with Win7 why you think you need Vista drivers?

last week we wanted to reinstalll the system and tried to use the disc, the installation started, but after 15 minutes it failed with some error messages ....
as mentioned several times in this forum I ordered an official product recovery disc , taht was shipped by the german supplier arvato services.
unfortunately these installations failed with the same messages .. as described below.
any comments, what to do (except buying a new vista license ...) ??
    thank you !

I don't know for sure but maybe HDD make problems.
Contact service and explain the situation. they can put new HDD inside and test recovery installation with your original Toshiba recovery DVD.

  • Satellite L300D - Upgrade from Vista to Windows 7

    Hello
I have Satellite L300D and I want to upgrade my operating system with windows 7. There is one link given but its not working the link is "http://www.toshiba.eu/windows7-upgrade"
So can any body help me?
    thank you

    Hi buddy,
The website that you mean is not available anymore because there was an upgrade offer for certain notebooks but this offer isnt available anymore.
So if you want to upgrade to Windows 7 you have to purchase a Microsoft Windows 7 disk, then you can start with Windows 7 upgrade.

  • Satellite L300D built-in microphone issue

I got my satellite L300D (model # PSLC8C-06100F) about a year ago, and when I first went to use skype it couldn't find a microphone.
I assumed that, unlike my previous satellite, the L300D just didn't come with a microphone built-in.
However, a couple of weeks ago I was on skype and having issues with the microphone headset I had plugged in, and when I unplugged it I suddenly had great sound coming through the built-in mic I thought wasn't there!
The problem is I haven't been able to so much as find it - let alone make it work again - since that one time.
    What's going on here?
I obviously HAVE a built-in mic, but neither my computer nor skype can seem to find it.
If anyone out there can help me out on this I'd be very grateful!

I'm actually running windows 7 home premium (a free upgrade from vista came with the laptop), but when I followed your advice the options "configure microphone", "set up a microphone", "find and fix audio recording problems", and "manage audio devices" come up.
When I click on "configure microphone" I get a window that says "click on 'start' button to start the microphone configuration' which, when I do, pops up another window that says "generating source object failed".
When I click on "set up a microphone" I get a window pop up that says "No audio input device found: Make sure your audio hardware is working properly and check your audio configuration in the Audio Devices and Sound Themes control panel", which doesn't exist (though I've looked through everything to do with audio I can find in my control panel, and everything keeps coming up empty to detect a microphone).
When I click on "find and fix..." I get a troubleshooting window pop up which performs a diagnostic and comes up with a window that says "plug in the microphone or headset: the peripheral device does not appear to be plugged in. Check the connection. Proceed to the next step to finish".
When I click on "Manage audio devices" I get the "sound" window with "playback, recording, sounds, communication" tabs. When I click on the "recording" tab it shows a microphone icon called "microphone: Realtek High Definition Audio" (which is also the name of the speakers!), but underneath it reads "Not plugged in"! When I plug in my headset mic it finds it and changes to "default device". The bottom of that window has an option to change default, but it's greyed out and won't let me select it.
Everything points to nonexistence of a built-in mic, but as I stated above I KNOW there is one because it randomly started working! What the hell is going on!!!???

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba Sattelite L300D 13S, and i was having some issues booting so have just formatted and installed windows vista on it.
I am having problems getting the network adaptor to work, its a Realtek rtl8101 Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC(NDIS 6.0). Obviously when i first installed the OS there were no drivers so i had the yellow ! next to it in device manager.
I downloaded the rtl8101 drivers which made the yellow ! dissapear so i thought great it should work, but all i get is 'This computer does not have a wireless network adaptor installed and configured'.
It doesnt work with a wired connection or wireless.
I would really appreciate any help, its driving me nuts!
